We made last minute reservations for 3 people and had a very delicious meal. The menu is seasonal and changes often. We basically tried the whole menu (minus three dishes). Great value for the food, great place to share plates!

We started with the bread and we loved it. Me and my son don't usually don't like bread, but this was an exception. The broccolini was just as good with it tasting like spicy and lemony vegetables, also they were perfectly seasoned. The pork and the ribs were great too. The pork had a sauce that was sweet but not too sweet. The ribs were medium rare and had peppers that were very spicy. Overall, the food was amazing, but it does have a smokey atmosphere at times because of the food being made. I overall loved this place and I hope you come eat at this place as well.

The food was fabulous, as was the service. It was a little chilly inside due to the air conditioning blowing, but other than that, the atmosphere was nice. The tables are close together, so if you like privacy, then I'd suggest sitting outside. Those tables seemed more spread out. Overall it was a great experience and if I lived in the area I'd definitely go back.

Truly one of the most innovative and consistently delicious restaurants in san antonio! The ribeye and orecchiette were absolutely incredible and their wine program never misses. Worth a visit for any occasion!

Great food, very intimate dining atmosphere. Good service. A little bit loud inside but otherwise an overall lovely experience to go with 2-4 people (very small dining area). Would recommend having a reservation.

We had the ribeye and crispy pork belly. Both were perfect and flavorful. The ribeye was the best I've had in San Antonio in awhile, and I've had some at the more expensive steakhouses. Highly recommend!

Everyone at the restaurant seemed to be a local which was a good sign. Every single fish was delicious. The bread was phenomenal. Other special dishes included the cabbage and the dak galbi chicken.

Food was great! They were understaffed at the time of our visit so expect to wait a little bit. We waited an hour and 30 mins in total (order, dish, desert, and check). Servers were great. I ordered the Cod today. the sear was an overdone and was under salted giving the dish a bitter overtone. The cod would have benefited a lot from some acid. I would recommend anyone coming to try the ribeye. 186$ total dinner desert appetizer and tip for 2 people.

Oh my goodness, the confit duck wings are to die for, and then be revived, just to die for it again. Utterly delicious, and became my entire personality for the week. My husband and I went for my birthday dinner to Magpie since I had heard talk of it amongst my acquaintances who loved the food, and so I wanted to try it out for myself. What a great decision it was to start off 2025 with! We ended up ordering the signature milk bread which was so soft and light with the most mysteriously tasty, plain-looking butter, the decadent confit duck wings that have me willing to martyr myself, and the crispy pork belly ssam, which, although in itself a great dish, paled against the greatness of the most delicious confit duck wings. That, combined with the fact that I don't like peanuts but failed to note that the pork belly would have some on them, dampened my effervescent, post-confit-duck-wings spirits a little, but they were soon rescued by the appearance of the dessert - a flan that was decidedly not light nor airy nor very caramel-y, but dense and sweet and delicious yet not overwhelming! The jammy blueberries on top wrapped it up quite nicely, leaving us very satisfied indeed. The space isn't very big, and it was quite noisy when we first came in, which usually is irksome to me, but it petered out as the night went along and the confit duck wings took over my senses. We did have a reservation, and were promptly seated when we arrived! I shall be back. For the confit duck wings, please never ever take it off the menu, pretty please.

Made reservations for 2 about a week ahead. Had the milk bread - warm and tasty! Citrus salad was refreshing, it was a right amt of vinaigrette and not overpowering. Husband and I shared the shrimp toast and snapper. Shrimp was a good size and there was a good shrimp to bread bite ratio - some buttery goodness! The snapper on its own was a bit salty for me, but the lemony blend complemented it well. Restaurant can be a bit loud, but I had no problem hearing my husband and didnt feel like I was raising my voice. Melissa was excellent! She was prompt and everything was on point with our order!

As the kids would say, this place was 'meh.' The laid-back ambiance was overshadowed by the extremely smoky interior, which made the experience less enjoyable. While the bread and dessert were the highlights of the meal, the entrees were overly spicy for our taste and overall unremarkable. The menu selection was quite limited, and though the service was decent, it didn't stand out. Unfortunately, this isn't a place I'd return to.

I should have taken pictures but I was too busy devouring the amazing food! It was SOOOO GOOD!!! The server was great in lugging us a solid idea of what and how much to order. The lion's mane was beyond delicious. The carbonara was the best I have ever had, even better than what I've had in Italy! The butter cake dessert to die for! Seriously the best I've ever had in San Antonio, bar none!

There is not a thing on this menu that wasn't prepared to perfection for our visit. Flavor pops from every item. Kenzie, our server, was super helpful and incredibly insightful. She attended to our every need.

We had such a great experience at the Magpie. Came here for our 5 year wedding anniversary and it did not disappoint. Perfect vibe for a date night or other special outing. They gave us complimentary sparkling Chardonnay right off the bat which was so sweet. We got the cauliflower and salad as appetizers. The cauliflower was seasoned with their special buffalo sauce which had some gochujang. The salad was light and refreshing and the citrus was def a nice touch. The duck and Galbi were *chef's kiss*. The smoky flavor def enhanced the taste. Galbi was umami. The snapper was a little salty but did not want to ding them a star for that.

I would definitely bring a friend. The interior is small and intimate. The food was delicious. We got the smoked duck and bread. The bread was so fluffy and tasted amazing with the butter we ordered it again later on to dip in the sauces. The duck was pretty good. But nothing to write home about. The pork belly was the same. But the Dak kalbi was amazing. Cooked to perfection, the chicken was moist the flavors blended well. We ended up ordering an additional order just to taste it again. Our waitress was also great, prompt service with great information/recommendations.

I see the vision, I really do! The food is decent, but not 5 stars as indicated by the reviews. I enjoyed the smoked duck dish, had a great combination of flavors. The beans were severely undercooked, I don't think I've ever sent a dish back but it was that bad so I had to. Then the waitress gaslit me saying the chef intended for the beans to be essentially the texture of rocks... okay then lol. The duck wings were far too greasy and not soft enough, probably could have used longer confit time. The bread was pillowy soft and with tasty butter to accompany. The pork belly ssam was flavorful, but too rich similar to the wings without much to balance them. The wine selection was pretty decent. The service was top notch! I don't consider this fine dining and personally wouldn't come back but I enjoyed the vibes nonetheless for a night out!

About a week ago, I made reservations on Tock to visit @magpiesanantonio this past Saturday for dinner. As part of making the reservations, there's a deposit of $10 per person that is refunded after your visit. Hubby and I had visited a long while back and ate outside. This time we were seated indoors. Hubby and I had the City Orchard Pineapple Cider, which was very refreshing. All the foods are meant for sharing so we did. We started with the Citrus Salad and the Smoked Duck. The duck came with sweet potato chips. Love the contrast! We had the Milk Bread, Butternut Squash, Red Snapper, and Dak Galbi (half chicken). Each dish had its own burst of unique flavor. The sauces were the best part! We ended the meal with Chocolate Mousse, which was divinely so rich paired well with the cream. This was an excellent meal! Melissa's service was on point! If you want an elevated experience, this place is a hidden gem and a must try. It also seems that they're doing brunch at the Golden Goose on Sundays as well. Such a great experience, super cozy (small) space but food is always pretty stellar, our wings were a bit over cooked but the rest of the food was pretty incredible and the butter cake is really tasty as well. Service is always personable but very busy. The menu is alcohol heavy so if you're sober there will be lots of push for alcohol and wine but they are very friendly otherwise

I took two friends who came out of town for a conference because of the wonderful reviews Magpie has received. We all agreed that Magpie did not disappoint and lived up to its reputation. Everything we had was sooo delicious. We started with their Milk Bread and Smoked Duck as our appetizers. The Milk Bread was warm and pillowy, and once smeared with the accompanying butter it became more than a bread course. The smoked duck was seasoned perfectly and the smoke wasn't overpowering. Once you eat it with the sweet potato chips and the pickled green beans, all kinds of flavors just exploded in my mouth. The slight sourness of the pickled green beans added the perfect amount of acid to offset the sweetness of the sweet potato chips. Both worked in harmony with the smoked duck. So so good! Our favorite, however, has to be the pork belly ssam! The gochujang provided a umami flavor coupled with sweet, salty, and a little bit of spicy. The refreshing leafy greens tamed the heat, but somehow accentuated the other tastes! We also had another main to share and it was delicious as well, but not as memorable. The dessert, the butter cake, was light and sweet. It was the perfect way to end such an incredible meal! The service was phenomenal as our water glasses were always filled and we were attended to with the utmost care. Because it was fairly early when we arrived, the restaurant wasn't too busy. However, as the dinner progressed and more and more people showed up, the vibe went from quiet to festive. Everyone appreciated the food and being able to watch the kitchen in action added to the experience. I definitely will be back (either with friends or by myself)!

Food was delicious. Excellent service. I enjoyed every bite and for such a small place, great wine selection. Parking is limited, so you can park in the vacant lot diagonally from the retail space before you hit Hackberry.

How the heck have I never heard of this place before?! It was incredible! Easily top 3 favorite restaurants in SA along with Bliss and Clementine. The service was super friendly, the wine was great, and the food was OUTSTANDING. We were seated at the bar facing into the kitchen, which was fun, too. Our favorites of the night were the smoked duck (by far), the tempura mushroom (best mushrooms I've ever had), and the pesto pasta. We also loved the ribeye, the kale salad, and the carbonara. The shrimp toast was good, but if I had to cut an item from our order, it would be that one. And the milk bread was, of course, very tasty. The butter cake dessert was also delicious. It reminded me of Bambino Huey - 90s San Antonio kids, you know what I'm talking about. The cherry on top was that they took the steak off the bill for being undercooked. We didn't even say anything - they noticed when they went to box it up and Tom it upon themselves to take it off. I didn't even mind that it was a little under - I ate the outer pieces first and since we were full, knew I could heat up the more rare leftovers at home without overcooking it. That's incredible service! And pride in your craft. Another reviewer mentioned the parking lot diagonally across the intersection, and thank you for that! Because the lot in front of the restaurant is small.

The Magpie has been on my list of restaurants to try for the longest time so I was so thrilled my girl friends and I finally tried this spot!! You'll likely need to make a reservation, and heads up they take a deposit for reservation. This place is a gem! Great family style restaurant. The food had amazing Korean flavor and all of the ingredients were high quality. We tried their signature milk bread, tofu, pesto pasta, and crispy pork belly ssam. All delicious! I was to try more things on the menu including their smoked duck and shrimp toast next time, it looked amazing! Service is very attentive. Go support Sue Kim's incredible restaurant! It truly is a unique menu unlike anywhere else I've been in San Antonio.

One of my favorite places in San Antonio, it's a must-try! Everything was presented wonderfully, and tasted unique, with elements curated for a well-rounded dish. Some of our favorites were the pork belly and carbonara but truly, I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you try. Service was excellent. We chose to sit at the bar which was fun to watch the chefs until the smoke was overwhelming-- our mistake haha.

A lovely date night experience. Everything was high quality. Standouts were the tempura mushrooms and butter cake. Loved the butter cake!!! Everything is made to share with surprisingly bigger portions than expected.

This food is phenomenal as is the service. I loved the pickled chilies in the pork belly. The snapper skin was crispy and the roasted radishes were savory with a hint of sweetness. The butter cake is gooey and the berry reduction with the fresh berries and chantilly crème is the perfect dessert for people who don't want chocolate. The outside of the butter cake was crisp and the inside was soft. The inside of the restaurant is cute and vibrant. There was a weird feeling of deja vu when the same couple kept walking by us and exiting the restaurant through the doors behind my seat. Happened 3 times in the first 15 minutes we were there.

Omg a GEM of San Antonio!! The chef is such a creative genius! To start the toast was melt in your mouth perfect. I wanted to order a second but had to hold back for the rest of the food. The duck charcuterie was so flavorful, the pickled green beans were so good and a good compliment to the duck. The pasta was amazing. So flavorful and not too rich where you would get sick in a couple bites. The chicken dish was also delicious. The skin was crispy and the flavors were robust! But the star is the butter cake. Holy cow. I'm coming back soon for this cake. That is the must!!! Our server was very attentive to our needs and the restaurant was so warm and welcoming. I'm coming back for sure!!

My sister took me to Magpie as it's her favorite restaurant in San Antonio. They did not disappoint! The milk bread was fluffy and delicious and melted in my mouth. We followed this with the mushrooms skewers that were savory delicious nuggets of heaven. I ordered the linguine Pomodoro with blistered tomatoes and olives, so delish. The complex layers of flavor in every bite blew my mind. I will definitely be requesting to come back every time I fly in to visit my sister! Don't walk, run and reserve your table! The chef is spectacular.

We had the beet salad, the mushroom ravioli and the butter cake. I would trade my car for the butter cake! Kinda loud and lots of cooking noise and smoke. The bread and butter is amazing! Overall, I will be back when she changes the menu. Delicious, everything.

Not a fan... I wish I could be one though. There's isn't much of an ambience and food was not consistent. I loved the mushroom appetizer and the dessert. Oh! The butter cake was delicious!!! Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the main entree, the Dak Galbi. I felt l just have ordered the wrong dish. The chicken was swimming in Gochujang sauce which was too spicy for my palace. My friend seemed to enjoy her food though. Since, my experience was marred by the Galbi, server was kind enough to take that off the check. At the end of the meal, I didn't feel like I would return here.

The food was wonderful. Each dish better than the last. Service was excellent. We expected to have leftovers but there weren't any . We shared everything and there was nothing to take home. We wanted to lick the plates.

The staff at Magpie are personable and professional. The atmosphere can be described as witty, chic , and welcoming. The cusine is best described as succulent, flavorful, eye catching and unique. It is a foodies paradise. This refine menue affords optimization of chef's culinary creativity.

Have ya'll seen all those other 5 Star Reviews?!?! When somewhere gets hyped so hard, I make myself go in with lowered expectations just in case it doesn't live up to the hype ...... but no need to lower the bar for Magpie. They SET the bar and they set it HIGH!! I've slowly been tasting my way around San Antonio, and I assure you nothing has topped Magpie for me. My fiancé surprised me with date night reservations here (yes, reservations are a must!). The restaurant is tiny, but in a "quaint" way. It's cozy. We were tucked away at the end of the bar area, which I thought was cool because we got a great view of the kitchen and watched the chefs hard at work. We started with the signature milk bread. I thought it was strange that a restaurant's signature was a piece of bread.. but y'all. The bread was delish. Trust me. Get it. Love it. The rest of the menu changes, but at the time there was a smoked duck shark-cootchie (charcuterie for those of you more refined than me) style plate. It was sooo good. My fave was to get a little bit of everything then run it through the sauce.. yummm. Then we got the yuringi chicken lettuce wraps. Again, zero disappointment. For dessert we went with the butter cake. Once again, fantastic. Next time I go, I literally want to say bring the whole menu. I'm a somewhat picky eater (onions, tomatoes? Yuck), but I have a feeling I wouldn't turn my nose up to anything Magpie has to offer. Oh, the service was also great. The lovely young ladies (literally at least 10-15 years younger than me) gave me an ego boost with flattering compliments, and we were told we were the most fun couple of the night! We're cool old people. Fellas, Ladies... trust me.. take that special someone on a date to Magpie.

We had another delightful experience at Magpie, leaving us impressed once more. Our trusty favorite, the mushroom skewer, delivered its consistent burst of flavor. My partner savored the cote du Rhône wine, while I, restricted by antibiotics, opted for a delightful kombucha - the server even served it in a wine glass to keep me included. Our order included linguine Pomodoro pasta and the 1/2 fried chicken set. The chicken was tender, bursting with flavor, though the Korean sweet chili sauce was a tad overwhelming. Next time, I might request the sauce on the side or lightly applied. The perfectly cooked veggies were a highlight. The linguine lived up to our expectations. I'm disappointed. We had high hopes based on the reviews. We made a reservation and we sat by the front door. Bad start to a bad meal. We asked if we could switch but were told that was the only table left at the time we made the reservation. Hmmmm. The other four tops didn't even start to fill until we were leaving. Reviews mentioned the ambiance as being a nice date night place but we had a hard time hearing each other in this loud restaurant. I was excited to try the tempura mushrooms. The salty soggy tasteless mushrooms did nothing to impress. The salty carbonara was inedible. We asked our waiter to tell the kitchen to go lighter on the salt. The menu states that the kitchen would be grateful if all the dishes are ordered at once. I was thinking that was a good thing for them otherwise we would have left after sampling the first two dishes. As customers, we would appreciate if all the dishes came out at once. Instead, a full glass of water later and the snapper and ribeye made it to the table. The snapper was tasty but still nothing to rave about. We ordered medium rare and rare steak made my husband loose his appetite. The kitchen cooked the steak again and it came out medium rare. The steak was ok. I can't say that much stood out at the Magpie. Our table of four spent $200 and left wondering if we were at the same restaurant as the 4.8 reviews.

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Staff is always nice, patient, and open to giving good recommendations. Perfect for date night or family style dining with a group of your friends. Will definitely keep coming back.

First things first. I have no photos because every time food came to my table my family devoured it like the heathens they are. This place is not over hyped. All the good things you read in the other reviews are true. It's perfect. Everything is good. The service is excellent. The wine list is intentional. The food is so good. It's dark and moody. Perfect for a date night. We had the milk bread, the tofu, the carbonara, the shrimp toast, the dak galbi and the butter cake. The milk bread was great though I don't know that it's necessary for us to have. The carbonara is something I ordered for my 9yo as a "safe food" because she is still trying new foods. She loved it and so did we. The shrimp toast was my favorite and it was my daughters as well. The dak galbi wasn't too spicy and we devoured it. Very juicy and flavorful. The butter cake I didn't eat because I was too full but my daughter won't shut up about how good it was. Same for my husband. I can't wait to go again.

Alright. I don't normally review anything if it's just "good" or "ok", but it only felt right to leave a review here because the team really went above and beyond. Some extra tips will be included, outside of my review of the food. 1. Reservations: if you're planning to go on a Friday or Saturday night, would be a good idea to reserve, especially if you want to dine after 7. There is a refundable fee for reservations which is refunded the day you dine. This was new for me, but I know the place is small so I didn't mind. They have indoor and outdoor options. 2. Parking: The Magpie is in a very popular little strip center, with beer and pizza places right next door (side note, those places are cool too). There's a lot catty cornered that doesn't have a "don't park" sign, so this is where I ended up parking. Even in heels it's still very close. Two handicapped parking spaces about 6 feet from the restaurant are there in case you need. 3. Ambiance: balanced, cute, quaint. Soft jazzy music gives an upscale vibe. Open kitchen, wait staff is very kind and gracious. Lighting slightly dim but not so much that you can't see the menu. My girlfriends and I chose to dress up, but you could get away with jeans and a nice blouse, no one would think twice on it. The place is small, but it gets packed. We ended up staying past the end of our reservation (1.5 hrs) and they kindly located another table for us to move to so we could enjoy finishing the wine and desserts (OH THAT BUTTER CAKE!) 4. Food: Started with smoke duck. It's not huge portion but it's definitely a flavor bomb. Glad we got it. AT $18, Would rate 9 out of 10. Between three ladies we decided to share the steak the chicken and linguine. This was plenty of food as the steak was a literal pound of meat. The chicken was definitely the star of the show for me and the sauce that came with it I put on EVERYTHING on the table. Chicken was perfect. Also, quite a large portion and deboned so it can be cut with knife and fork. The balance of flavors was, in my opinion, perfect. 12/10 The steak was the most expensive, but is HUGE. The simple flavor of salt and pepper and butter in the sear is classic. Typical cook for them is medium rare. It comes with some sort of oil and chili sauce on the plate. It was not over complicated and the chef let the flavor of the meat stay shining through, which I very much appreciate. I would pick the chicken over the steak in the future, but it's still very good. 8.5/10 We then moved on to dessert; The butter cake reminds me of a cross between crème brûlée and bread pudding, I would come here LITERALLY just for this. It's a petite portion but so wonderful as a sweet finisher to an overall great meal. 100/10 The chocolate- very rich. Another great item if you're a chocolate junkee. It comes in a cream sauce reminiscent of almond and pistachio condensed cream. For me this is more of a craving item. Again, petite, sensible portion. All three of us got about 3 spoonfuls of each dessert. 7/10 5. Drinks: They offer beer and wine, a wonderful, highly curated selection. There are options for any price range (beer starts at $4, wine at $10; but you can certainly indulge in some beautiful wines on the higher end) 10/10 6. Overall, I would 100% recommend this establishment. The experience, kindness, atmosphere, quality of food, quality of flavors for me make it a 9.5 out of 10. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu, but I'll just have to go back a couple more times to try everything.

A great little spot to find. It's a relatively small place, but it has great food, is full of locals, off the beaten path, and is a welcoming place. I didn't realize until I left but they serve the local brew from the brewery next door too that was pretty good. I found the Magpie I Yelp and was attracted to it as a NUFC fan, add to that the solid ratings, and it was a place I had to try while in town on a visit. The menu changes regularly from what I can gather, but I'd recommend it. The small, sharable plates a curated so that everything ok the plate compliments each other. If you find yourself in San Antonio make your way to the Magpie!

The Magpie was on my radar to try for months and I finally planned it out. Reservations are $10 per person deposit that gets refunded at the end of the day. Location is in little building that shares with a brewery and pizza spot with limited amount of parking. Also, they use their bird logo as they're signage so be on the lookout. The restaurant itself is really small with a bar area and 3 tables, but there's also space outside. It seemed very casual, but the menu prices didn't resonate. We sat in the bar area and immediately ordered drinks. They have a vast menu or bottles of wine to enjoy with your meal with additions of beer. For appetizers, I ordered the small potato confit. You can't go wrong with potatoes and the mix of seaweed, lemon, anchovy sauce went well. For entrees, I had the red snapper and my husband ordered the yuringi chicken. The yuringi chicken was different from what I've tried in Korea and didn't expect it to be like a Thai lettuce wrap. A little disappointing. The red snapper was amazing with the fish cooked crisp and the broth they add at the end mixing with the sauce to complete the dish was delicious. The ambiance is casual with elevated cuisine, which didn't really mesh well. In addition, the Korean influence on the dishes I had were minimal so I was a little disappointed. Good spot for foodies that would spent at least $100 and not dress up for.

I have been meaning to check this place out for so long, I'm so happy I finally got around to it! And it exceeded my expectations! The milk bread is SO GOOD! definitely order it! I loved the sorrel pasta, it was so creamy and delicious. And oh my god the butter cake dessert. Wow. Everything was amazing and our server was super friendly. Can't wait to come back when the menu changes!

Food was all absolutely incredible. We had the bread, tempura mushrooms, carbonara, pork belly, and the butter cake. Everything was delicious, but the pork belly was probably the favorite. Magpie is a San Antonio dinner must-have. Ambiance is intimate and service, by Anthony, was excellent.

Second visit and oh my!! Tried something new on the menu,Crispy Cauliflower with Fresno buffalo sauce! Service great ! Comfort setting! Sommelier Help us pick an amazing Wine!

BLUF: Go here. Start with the bread, end with the butter cake. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu and you will have a great time. Service: In short, fantastic. Sometimes at nicer restaurants, the service feels overbearing. That wasn't my experience here. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful with recommendations. He was there when he needed to be, but allowed us to enjoy our meal. Food: also fantastic. I could have eaten a whole meal of just the milk bread. But thankfully we also ordered the carbonara and dak galbi. The carbonara was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor. The dak galbi was perfectly cooked chicken in an incredibly flavorful sauce. We finished with the butter cake which is in my top 3 (if not top overall) desserts I've had. I was full, but would have eaten a second round of the entire meal if someone gave it to me. We briefly talked with the owner and you can tell how much he cares about the restaurant and the product they are putting out. This place needs to be in your plans soon.

Best restaurant in town. Nobody is making a perfectly balanced menu with just enough and not too much. Everything here has a different taste so every bite from a different dish is exciting. The waitstaff are fantastically sweet and knowledgeable. They recently expanded into the suite next door and the inside itself is very simplistic, casual, and comfortable... allowing the food to shine. We've had the rib-eye, the Daak galbi chicken, the milk bread, the desserts, carbonara, and a few more that we can't recall right now because the seasons have changed. There has never ever ever been a moment eating here where we left wanting for anything more; we've always been the most satisfied after eating here. When I called to make a reservation 30 minutes before coming, Adam was very nice to me and said no problem. I was dining by myself and I am a first time customer it was pretty busy. I really enjoy the red blend wine he recommended and the ice water was good too. the bathrooms were clean. I had the duck Ragu and it was delicious and I had the milk bread with butter and I enjoyed that as well. I then finished with the chocolate mousse and it was divine. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to coming back the next time I'm in town. Thank you so much.

This place is really good. Be careful to not fill up on that milk bread! It yummy. The lobster dauphinoise was one the best things I've eaten all year. It was the star of the meal for me. Prime ribeye not shown was good, too! It's served medium rare, which was perfect. Cheesecake one of the best I've had. What's more impressive is how hard the chef is working. I didn't see anyone else cooking. I think she's a person of one with support team cleaning and catering to guests. I was amazed how she kept everything together. This place has to be on your eat list.

Vegetarian food was absolutely delicious, and we were served by the most attentive guy (Anthony). He went the extra mile to make sure our experience was great!

Four people shared the mushrooms, bread, ribeye, pork belly and chicken plus a bottle of wine and dessert. The service at Magpie is fantastic. Seems like the waitstaff works very well together and helps each other out. Very unique menu leaning Korean but not exactly. Bold flavors and creative plating bring the table to life. Short but good wine list. Looked like others were drinking craft beer. Mushrooms are really good. Even a non-mushroom eater among us found them irresistible. The ribeye was cooked perfectly but compared to the chicken and pork belly was underwhelming. At a steakhouse this would have been great but seemed out of sync with the rest of the menu at Magpie. Don't get me wrong we ate the whole thing and were satisfied. The pork belly is a knock-out! Perfect texture and the whole plate was perfectly balanced between textures and flavors. Similarly the chicken was cooked perfectly and the crisp texture held up to the hearty sauce. We unanimously ranked pork belly 1, chicken 2 and the steak was third. The butter cake was a nice simple dessert and even though nobody "wanted" dessert we quickly polished it off.

Holy moly. I'm hard to impress, but every moment of this place way epic. Service, chef, food and overall experience made me feel amazing.

This was my birthday dinner and based on the reviews, my family and I had high expectations. It was our first time there and our waitress was a bit underwhelming. She didn't explain the menu and told us the snapper was shareable when it wasn't at all. She also had to be flagged down a couple of times for drinks. At the price point we expected a lot more, not sure I'd come back.

Just WOW! Service was perfect, the food was perfect, everything was PERFECT! The oxtail is so scrumptious! Perfect size for sharing... Has to be some of the tastiest food we've ever had!

What a fantastic restaurant experience for a Friday night!The Magpie is a small restaurant near downtown SA that serves big, bold flavors. Their menu changes from time to time, so be sure to check their website before you go to see their most updated version. Reservations can be made thru their website via Tock for $10 per person. This amount is cancelled/reversed at the restaurant when you show up--they haven't been able to figure out how to deduct it from the final bill yet. But either way, the reservation fee is refundable if you show up to your reservation. The atmosphere is very comfortable but also intimate. Parties of 1 or 2 sit at the bar top, while 3+ are allotted tables. I wasn't sure about sitting at the bar top, but it turned out great and wasn't cramped as I was expecting it to be. There is a corkage fee of $20 for 750ml if you BYOB, but they also offer their own wine list. We started off with the Bread and got the Oxtail & Spicy Pork Ribs for the entrees. The Bread was warm, fluffy, rich, buttery, and toasted--so delicious! It was reminiscent of the Asian-style bread that you can find at a Asian supermarkets. But the texture was denser and sweeter (in a good way). The Oxtail was very tender and succulent, braised in familiar flavors of soy sauce and ginger. It reminded me of the traditional braised pork belly in Chinese cuisine. The fattiness of the oxtail is cut by pickled jalapeño slices. I do wish that the broccolini that also accompanied the oxtail was not already cut up because the stalks make a prettier presentation. I personally didn't care for the potato chips on top, as they were slightly soggy and didn't add any flavor component to the dish. The Spicy Pork Ribs had a wonderfully spicy, sweet, and savory sauce that had a consistency of marinara sauce. This consistency perfectly coated the tender pork morsels. The shishito peppers were both a nice pop of color and an addition of flavor that complemented the sauce. The Butter Cake was the perfect finish to the meal. It was very rich but not heavy on the palate. The fresh berries and berry compote had a nice acidity that cut thru the richness of both the cake and the whipped cream. If you have any doubts of coming here, this is your sign to make a reservation today and see how good the food is for yourself! (But just note that parking is limited within the actual plaza if you don't come at opening time. There is plenty of street parking nearby though!)

Best restaurant on the East Side? More like one of the best in all of San Antonio. Magpie would be a beloved foodie go-to in any city. Feel so lucky to have this in here in SA, and in my own 'hood is a crazy bonus. Ever-evolving menu, amazing fusions of ideas, but also some reliable standbys to keep coming back to. Great, friendly, upbeat staff / service. Open kitchen w/chefs happy to chat with you. But most of all... how often do you "marvel" at the taste of something... take a bite and mutter "oh my God..." under your breath? You'll do that here.
