Astral Tequila Cocktails in Sacramento | Eater

"If you love tequila and other agave-based spirits, you’ll appreciate the experience that is Mayahuel: part museum, part tasting room, and part restaurant that celebrates all of Mexican culture. With iconic dishes like chicken mole from Puebla, cochinita pibil from the Yucatan, and Aztec-style salmon on a bed of huitlacoche sauce, it’s a showcase of traditional cuisine that begs to be paired with a great drink. For those who want a little something sweet, try Astral Blanco mixed with Disaronno, banana liqueur, and grapefruit-cinnamon syrup, garnished with a cinnamon sugar rim." - Bernadette Machard de Gramont

Mayahuel is one of my wife’s and my favorite spots in Sacramento. Great food, great cocktails, great service, and an amazing atmosphere—it checks every box. You do pay a little more than other places, but it’s absolutely worth it. We started with chips, salsa, and guacamole—all fresh, flavorful, and perfectly mild. Feeling boozy, we tried a tequila flight (blanco, reposado, and añejo). The pours are small, so unless you’re a big tequila fan, I’d stick with cocktails. The drinks here are excellent—try the Paloma, Mayahuel Fresca, or La Flor if you like a little spice. We shared the brochetas de chorizo (great bites) and the carne con chile entrée, which I highly recommend. Warm, rich, and comforting—perfect for a cold, windy day. The asada tacos are also excellent if you want something lighter. The ambiance is beautiful, especially in October with their Día de los Muertos display. Parking can be tight, but there’s a garage right next door. Pro tip: the IMAX theater is a 30-second walk away—perfect for a dinner-and-a-movie date. Make a reservation if you’re going on a weekend or during lunch/dinner hours—Mayahuel fills up fast!

We had some issues at Mayahuel. But I'll start with the good: Menu was great, lots of options which looked quite good. And what we had did taste good. Beer options were solid for a Mexican place Chips & Salsa were quite nice. OK, the bad: Service wasn't good. Took ~15 minutes to place our order (of any kind). I had to go to the bar and get the drinks myself since they were sitting up there so long> They had to scramble to find the Plant Based Menu, and then they were "possibly" out of the Lentil Soup, and asked if Carrot was OK in that case. (They were out, we got carrot, but we only found out once it arrived) They were also out of Carnitas (Note, we went at 11AM on a Sunday, so they had just opened) Food was not particularly hot when it came out, which I find unusual for a Mexican restuarant. Ordered an Appetizer and was asked if I wanted it first... I did. It arrived after mains, and even then I think only because I asked about it.

I placed a reservation with a group of friends before heading over to a book signing. The ambience was very nice. The restaurant had put up Dias los Mueros decorations up which made the atmosphere so much better. I have the steak tacos, and it was amazing. The drink I had was also good and refreshing! Definitely want to come back to try more of their foods. Especially their seafood

Easy walking distance from the Sheraton Grand in Sacramento. The sign outside was not lit, but we found it anyway. Decorated nicely for Christmas. Lively atmosphere. Friendly and attentive customer service. Delicious and interesting dishes. Alot on the menu to choose from if you've never been here before. We had two of the Coastal Dishes: the Camarones Moctazuma al Tequila and the Salmon en Huictlacoche. I had the shrimp (Camarones) sauteed "al mojo de ajo", with mushrooms, jalapeno chili strips, parsley, and a splash of tequila, severd with cilantro infused rice. So delicious, perfectly cooked, layers of flavor. The rice was not your average rice, so flavorful and delicious. The jalapeno strips gave just the right amount of heat. The mushrooms were fresh and cooked tenderly, the shrimp were large and juicy, and the sauce brought it all together. Their chips and salsa were also good, which can make or break a Mexican restaurant. The salmon was flaky and tender, cooked perfectly. It was served atop a bed of rice and sauteed veggies. "Salmon grilled and baked to perfection on a bed of Huictlacoche sauce, corn, on top of a bed of white rice." My sister was really enjoying the dish but as she got about halfway through and got to the bottom of the dish her mouth started tingling and itching like a food allergy. There was a dark thick sauce underneath the rice. I tasted several bites of her dish, including the sauce, and did not have the same reaction. I looked up the dish to see if any of the ingredients were unusual or new to her. The Huictlacoche sauce in translation means, corn smut or Mexican truffle. It's a fungus that grows on corn, a delicacy in Mexico. It had an earthy, smoky and slightly sweet flavor. She chose not to eat anymore, but since it was so delicious she brought it home to give to a family member to enjoy. They did not have a reaction to the sauce either. The Cadillac Margarita's were also delicious with a dehydrated orange slice on top adding a subtle flavor and nice appearance. Overall a great experience and I would definitely recommend it if you are in the area. If having drinks, expect to spend $30 to $50 per person. If you come just to dine, there is ACE parking just across the way for $6 and hour, max of $30.

Google
Not sure how this has an award. When you have to ask for silverware after your food comes, then have to ask for a napkin. Of course, when the other diners finally received their food and the fork arrived + the food was cold. I thought I would try something different. Oops. The description was well written and fooled me into thinking it would be delicious, not so much. Looks impressive, but lackluster and bland. I sent the flour tortillas back as they had a rancid oil flavor. The other diners ordered some pretty standard dishes (meatball soup, tacos and pozole) and said it was good. The drinks looked good. Overall, I was not impressed. The prices seem high for the quality. I will not be back.

The food and drinks were delicious. The service was less so due to initial issue where we asked to sit at the bar, were then invited to do so, only to be told to move (rudely by the bartender). Our waiter was very pleasant.

Google
Best nice Mexican restaurant in Sacramento. I used to like that other Mexican one that got Michelin guide recommended but it got too popular and the food now lacks taste but Mayahuel has amazing dishes to offer! The spicy pistachio chicken mole is amazing but the adobe plate is probably my favorite! They offer flour or corn tortillas but it would be a step up if they made them on site since it’s actually super easy to make tortillas but maybe the ingredients are too expensive compared to just buying already made tortillas. The mango y chile drink is yummy I do miss it being in a taller cup looking at the reviews of others, they did get a tall cup so idk why I was jipped here. I have only been going before dinner rush lately but I do recall that dinner times the atmosphere was so good, I cannot speak for the last couple years as I have not gone that late. OMG did I mention the Mazapan ice cream and churro ice cream for dessert, 10/10!! My favorite restaurant that survived the pandemic and doesn’t need state workers to make it this far although if I have to support a company in this area I would choose Mayahuel only! I did consider 4 stars due to service since sometimes it is super loud in this restaurant that my ears hurt and I have to yell to be heard even when it is nearly empty inside in the middle of the day. Chips and salsa are extra, gone are the days of free chips and salsa, would not recommend paying for them since they are not special whatsoever and the salsa is bland if you are a true salsa lover but looking at the cliente, it makes sense. Also not all servers are great but 4/5 usually are. So for the most part they are great!

Google
Unique yummy offerings. The Mole and vegetarian dinner was super good! Great unique drink offering. Our poor waiter, he was excellent, but he got overrun with tables. They were very busy and the service was slow, but he was a very good waiter. We sat outside and it was a nice atmosphere. We will definitely go back.

Yelp
Indoor/Outdoor seating I like that they still have a separate vegan menu. 3.5% "Kitchen Retention" fee was on my check. I haven't been in a while so that's new. I don't mind it but I was surprised because i didn't know about it and it wasn't posted around or on the menu. (I didn't see it if it was). I found out when I got the bill. I saw hooks under the bar..I would've liked one at my two top to hang my bag rather than sling it on the back of my chair. Foodwise-- it's good, it's creative.. Service on this recent visit was good-- could be better.

Yelp
A solid spot that never disappoints in service, food quality, and vibe. Pricing is fair and the location, despite being downtown, is not overly congested as it could be - a couple of blocks west, different story. Do also love the large area of outdoor seating and that it's surrounded by other restaurants, bars, and shops along a walkable strip. I haven't had a bad dish here, but I do have my favorites. Today I had the Enchilada Verdes - chicken was moist and full of flavor, the verde was tasty, tortillas warmed perfectly, and the topped off lettuce with cheese made it all come together well. The Enchilada de Mole is my usual go to dish - everything similar to the above but a trend to compare mole alone to other spots I visit, and this one is top notch. As per usual, I'll be back.

Yelp
Haven't been here in FOR.EVAH!!! Sadly I was a bit underwhelmed from my old memories. I will say it seemed like we got there at the end of a HUGE rush they looked to be short staffed and it felt like it. Server was a bit overwhelmed and forgot my tortillas for my dish, we had to ask twice for salsa refill and he just wasn't as welcoming as i remember the staff here. But - the chips and salsa was great as usual. The ribeye with chorizo was good and my salmon was crispy and cooked perfectly (but why did T he white rice have an odd flavor). The Salmón en Huitlacoche typically comes with the tropical side salad but they subbed the Dios de Maíz for me - although I didn't see any pepitas in it the salad was good! The server was nice enough to comp a beer and the chips and salsa and apologized when he brought the check because he knew he was busy and hadn't paid us much attention. It was our anniversary dinner and came here for nostalgia- we used to come here alllll the time when they first opened. We weren't totally heart broken with the experience although a bit disappointed. I feel badly for staff when they are overworked- maybe someone called out sick or something. We will still keep it keep it on our list - until next time Mayahuel!

Yelp
Visited La Cosecha by Mayahuel the night before after my friend recommended it and loved the food. He mentioned the chef had another restaurant that was a little more upscale inside and next to the Sheraton hotel behind the Capital building. I had to do a little research and discovered it was Tequila Museo Mayahuel. Parking was not easy, I had to circle the blocks 3 times until someone left from the metered parking spot. There is a garage next to the restaurant but it was full by the time I arrived at 6:53 p.m. Arrived and I was sat down quickly. I waited for my server for a bit and finally one said they would be right with me. I had my drink and entree picked out so it worked out fine. Jorge was my server and he was really cool and had cool glasses. I asked if he could please put my alcoholic drink on a separate check and he happily obliged. I had the Passiflora drink which was my favorite drink ever. It's hard to find a good passion fruit drink and this one tasted fresh. For the entree I had Tacos Poblanos de Arrachera which came with the most delicious beans as a side and 3 steak tacos with a guajillo sauce. The steak was chunky and full of flavor and cooked with no pink, but it was still very tender and juicy. These were hearty chunks of steak so 3 tacos was more than enough for one person. For dessert I had the Margarita Lime Custard which tasted exactly how I wanted it to. If you love key lime pie, this is for you. I'm pretty sure I've seen someone make this on TikTok and it's like the Carlota de Limon dessert, but I've never had the time to make it and it's for sale here. I was sad when I finished it because it was too good! Definitely need to dine here if you're visiting the Sacramento area. I drove 20 minutes to eat dinner here.

Yelp
We came here for the vegan chefs challenge! The inside is cozy, and romantic ambiance. We had both of the main courses offered on the menu. Jorge, our serve, was delightful, attentive and very accommodating. We will be back! Prices were so reasonable for the four course vegan menu at $45 a person.

Yelp
We sat outside during the warm summer night. The drinks were really strong. I ordered the Oaxacan old fashioned. I didn't really care for the Camarones as I didn't enjoy the tequila infused sauce. It was edible, but not the best. I would visit again for their drinks and perhaps other menu items in the future.

Yelp
This experience was far better than the first visit. It was around 3pm Thursday so easy seating. Ordered chips, salsa and guac- it's not complimentary and that's fine. I enjoyed the taste of the guac. Not too chunky and not all the was smashed. Good flavor! 5/5 Steak tacos- they were good i was not interested in the onions and peppers in it 4/5 Green Enchiladas - i liked how simple these were and they weren't over powered with too many seasonings. The verde sauce is what brings the flavor! I wasn't fan of the rice tasted more like a premade bag to boil rice 4/5 Mexican mule - didn't taste but judging how fast it disappeared 5/5 Mayahuel Fresca-5/5. Refreshing, strong perfect amount of sweetness. Service- 5/5- hostess was welcoming and quick also had a smile! The server was also welcoming, very attentive and did not rush us.

Yelp
Visiting from out of town and we were craving for some excellent Mexican cuisine and was thrilled to find a place within walking distance. The chicken and shrimp tacos were absolutely fantastic! Their old-fashioned cocktail was delightfully unique, almost like candy, which I mean as a compliment. I highly recommend this spot! The atmosphere was incredibly warm and relaxing, and the waiter Alvaro was exceptionally professional, providing insightful menu recommendations that truly reflected high standards. Stay away from the main K street strip... this place is great and safer.

Yelp
I have been here a few times and love it! First, the decor is beautiful. Second, their food is full of flavor and delicious. I have tried a variety of items and it becomes harder to decide what I want since I know it will be great. Though you have to purchase chips and salsa, it's worth it as the chips are thick and the salsa has a blend of flavors with a good amount of spice. Their guacamole and cocktails are good too! The service is great! The gentlemen that have served us are nice and attentive! Check out my pics and you will definitely want to give it a try!

Yelp
Came here for lunch since they are part of the Sac Battle of the Taco Super cute inside! Chips & Salsa 3/5 didn't love the chips but that's my personal preference. Guac 4.5/5 good flavor, small portion Dobladitos de poblano 5/5 delicious cheesy poblano goodness and good portions Tacos arracherra de res 3.5/5 flavor was okay, meat a little dry Tacos de adobados 4.5/5 great flavor, cheese involved Service was good, water and drinks stayed filled. Had a nice lunch but would not necessarily go out of my way to return based on this meal.

Yelp
Never ceases to amaze and impress.. tried something new to me and like always, Ernesto created an experience!! Our friends joined us this time and they too were delighted at the great service and the taste of the plates we enjoyed. And the ambience always welcoming and warm, like visiting an old friend next we'll take our friends to octopus Peru.

Yelp
The location is great. It's in the heart of downtown near the IMAX theater and not too far from the capitol and cathedral. There is mainly street parking nearby but there are two large parking structures within walking distance. The service was great. Our server came by multiple times to ensure our meal was up to our satisfaction. We came in a larger party and they were still able to get our food out quickly, I'd say in around 15 minutes. They have an expansive liquor list, especially tequilas (as given by its name). The food was delicious. I was a big fan of the guacamole and chips. In particular, the tacos were good. More similar to "white people" tacos but still had a bit of an authentic street taco taste. The prices were a bit pricey. I'd say to expect to walk out of here for around $45 for a meal for two making this a ($$$) for me, Bottom line/TLDR: solid Mexican food.

Yelp
Amazing food, awesome drinks and cool decor. My visits here are always the same, good service and chill vibes. Some of the best margaritas in the city, highly recommended. Some of my favorites are pictured here. For appetizers, the chips with salsa are zesty but you can add the fresh made guacamole. The shrimp ceviche is very good but a hefty portion so should be shared. If ordering meals, the tacos are tasty, the Cameroons are my go to, served on the blue tortilla shell. Looking for a spot for Mexican cruise, this is the place.

Yelp
Yes. Food was so good. We had the shrimp tacos and the Adobo tacos and both were impressive. We also had leftovers and the next day were so good ( partner had the shrimp cold ) The chops and salsa were pretty perfect in the way they were made- crispy and not too oily. The salsa had a tolerable heat but will slow you down if you eat it too fast and get a little too hot. Yes perfect. Our server was Ernesto. Didn't catch the supper staff names but they were on a mission - it was very clean inside and felt welcoming. Omg - we were cracking up so hard - Ernesto stoped up each time we attempted to order anything on Spanish - and it was probably just for his own sake- maybe a reflex- it wasn't rude it was just - " oh yes I understand- got you." but to us it was comedy- pure on point comedic timing and we took no offense as non Spanish speaking people. Thank you Ernesto - host and bidders. Everyone looked great and I appreciate the real rose decor on table. We're going to come back with our friends and family.

Yelp
This place is amazing has tons of seating, staff is super friendly, nice decor and we're playing some good music. We also had a big party and the food came out all at once. For being a restaurant, prolly one of the biggest and best tequila selection. We went on a Friday and they had many options for people who do lent, so no meat. Many of my peers had gotten the chile rellano and loved it. I had gotten the Dolbaditas de Chile Poblano, def delicious and def filling, I would order that so many times so good. Also had gotten a PALOMA to drink, so freakin good and refreshing

Yelp
Very fresh and tasty Mexican food that is out of the ordinary. Nice location down town. Our waitperson (Jorge) was extremely welcoming and helped us navigate the menus. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
One of my fave Mexican restaurants! This place is always a good time and they have excellent tequila-based cocktails time and time again! The service is always quick and friendly! I have added some photos from this time's visit with friends! Everyone enjoyed their food :)

Yelp
Party of 7 for a Saturday night, reservations much in advance, seated in the COA Room near the back wall for amiga's Scorpio Season birthday festivities. Our server was Maria A, and she did an amazing job. Very busy night with other tables with bigger groups than us, at least in our seating area/room which wasn't even the main dining space. Started with a shared order of guacamole (salsa and chips complimentary), and additional baskets of fresh chips as needed when the main food orders got delayed/backed up. Drink orders came out promptly (both cocktails and nonalcoholic/virgin mocktails). The table got the Mayahuel Paloma, Skinny Margarita, Mango y Chile, Maya Margarita, Mexican Mule, Lalo Cantatrito, can of Long Drink seltzer, and Asi Sabe. After the drinks, the entrees didn't arrive until an hour later. For mains, we all got arrachera tacos, mole enchiladas, brochetas (chorizo y queso), carnitas atacheo x2, crema chile poblano soup, spicy pistachio mole. The grilled fish tacos they ran out of, as well as shrimp, so those were substituted with adobada I think. I attended the Paws, Pubs, and Grubs event last week where I got to try samples from Mayahuel's menu, and I decided to go for those specific items again. Mine was the half order (cup) of their signature poblano soup and the spicy pistachio mole con Pollo which came with plain rice and choice of tortillas. I liked the soup very much, and the pistachio mole (gf) was interesting, but I'm partial to the more traditional mole poblano with Mexican rice. No beans with this dish. The complimentary birthday cake slice was the mango mousse butter cake and it came with a sparkler, fun!

Yelp
We found Mayahuel on the list of restaurants for the yearly "Dine Downtown" event. We had never been here and didn't hear much so we were open minded. Parking is tough- had to do the expensive garage and there is no validations from local restaurants. Jorge, our waiter, was pleasant. Hubby and I got different items so we can sample different items. Poblano soup was flavorful but consistency is super then. Corn soup was sweet, good consistency. Mixing the 2 soups probably would've been perfect. Rib Eye with mashed potatoes and roasted potatoes; rib eye was soft, cooked well, but the thinnest rib eye i've had at a restaurant. The roasted potatoes were not good at all. Salmon with mango sauce; salmon was okay, rice was average. and mango sauce was too sweet for a "mexican" inspired entree. The dessert was a tres leches cake and a mango cake...both tasted like they came from a cheap grocery bakery. No one in our group of 4 finished the dessert. Based on the dinner we had this evening, it's definitely a pass for us...

Yelp
I was going to go to brasserie du monde for their dine downtown deal but they weren't seating till 9pm so I ended up at Mayahuel instead for their dine downtown deal. When we walked in the hostess said they weren't seating until 8pm. We decided to go to the bar seating. I didn't realize they were not offering the dine downtown menu at the bar but they had their regular menu available. My boyfriend ordered the flank steak Arrachera Méxicana Con Enchilada and his came with one enchilada, flank steak, rice and beans. I ordered the verde enchiladas. The food was good! We had 2 bar tenders serving us. They were very busy making drinks but service was really good through the night. The food probably took 40 min or longer to come out which seemed like a long time. What annoyed me was that around 6pm when we arrived we were told that we could only be seated at 8pm due to it was busy but yet there were multiple empty tables which I figured may be for reservations. Me and my boyfriend stayed there 2 hours and the tables were empty the whole time. The restaurant was busy though so maybe they didn't have any staff for all the tables to be full.

Yelp
We came with my coworkers for lunch to welcome our new team member and of course this place was amazing and delicious. I had the enchiladas de mole and the asi sabe Mexico mocktail.

Yelp
2.5 stars actually. We made reservations and called twice to confirm times. Person i spoke to was okay with us splitting checks because we were on a work trip. They even checked with the manger before saying it was okay. When we showed up on time our table was not ready and our waiter gave us a hard time for splitting checks. I mentioned the name of the person I spoke to on phone and all our waiter said was she will have a talk with her. Eventually they did do split checks but the back and forth ruined it. I decided to try their prix fixe vegan course for about $60. The best thing from that course was the drink. The spicy lentil soup was too spicy and the blue corn mushroom enchilada is something ill never order again. I was brave trying that dish but its not for me. I dont recall our table getting a thank you for coming in or anything after we paid our bill. I would not recommend this place.

Yelp
My friend and I visited this restaurant before going to an event at the safe credit union performing arts center. The location could not have been more convenient. I settled on a salad and my friend ordered off the vegan menu. The food was phenomenal. I'm picky about chicken, and was hesitant to add chicken to the tropical salad, but im glad I did. It was a delicious salad! The chips and salsa were good, too. Unfortunately, the service was severely lacking. Our food was dropped off, and we never saw our waitress again. No refill on my soda. No ask if we wanted additional alcoholic drinks. Did we want to order dessert? They'll never know. She literally disappeared. We had to ask twice for someone else to find her and/or bring our tab so we could pay and make it to our event on time. The experience would have been great, if we had had an attentive server. It was all around bizarre how we just never saw her again after getting our food.

Yelp
Great place near the convention center that's ALWAYS busy!!! We lucked out with a spot at the bar . Great chips and salsa. My skinny margarita was perfect- not sweet per my request. The grilled fish tacos were a large portion topped with spicy peppers (and II mean spicy) and caramelized onions. Very good! The traditional chile relleno was stuffed with cheese, dipped in batter, and fried topped with a nice chili sauce. I wish the cheese was a bit more gooey and less firm. The beans and rice were very good. I would love to come back and try their soups (too hot today) and the pozole salad!
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is top shelf, far beyond just the basic taqueria, very nice restaurant and full bar. The bar area could get a little load but was not distracting to us. The fish Tacos was excellent and the enchiladas was so much more tasty then the majority I've had in the past. Had a mango margarita that was very good and presented well. All our dishes were presented well in fact, gotta guacamole side and it was A FULL SIZE plate and full. Good stuff here

Yelp
Went with a group of girl friends for dinner. All got the mole enchiladas and raved about how good they are-will get next time! I ordered the carnitas plate and it was amazing. Beans could be better but they were still good. The mangoneada mocktail was the best I've ever had!! Chips were fresh, warm, not too greasy. Guac was delicious! Def will come back.

Yelp
If you plan to visit this restaurant solely for drinks, chips, and salsa, you'll most likely enjoy it. If you're hungry and looking for good eats, please look elsewhere. I brought my family to Tequila Museo Mayahuel to celebrate my mom's birthday. I've heard great things about the restaurant so I had high hopes. We had a reservation so we were seated upon arrival. The restaurant is beautiful. Without knowing any better, it seems like the perfect place for a date or birthday dinner. Shortly after being seated, we were given chips and salsa. The salsa was some of the best salsa I've had in my life. Delicious is an understatement. We scarfed down the chips and salsa like we were given a time limit to eat it. We were all amazed by how good the chips and salsa were - we were so excited for the rest of the food because if the chips and salsa were this good, the entrees would be mind-blowing... or so we thought. I knew I was in for disappointment when I asked my server if I should order a dish and he advised against it. As a table, we ordered the Vegan Mole Poblano, Pistachio Spicy Mole Sauce, and Tacos Adobobados De Res. I also ordered the Mango Y Chile frozen cocktail. The food came out in about 15 minutes. We all took our first bite and looked at each other with sadness and shattered hope. None of us liked our food. Our server was cool so we didn't want to complain, but none of us ate more than 1/3 of our respective plates. I don't have one good thing to say about any of the dishes on the table. Que triste. When our server came by to pick up our plates, he said, "You didn't like it huh?" He already knew we'd be in for disappointment. On a positive note, the Mango Y Chile frozen cocktail was amazing. 10/10!!! Even though I strongly disliked the food, I would return for the Mango Y Chile. +1 star for that beautiful drink. Sacramento has such good food. Skip this place unless you have a free food voucher, even then you should be wary.

Yelp
We were out for a conference and looking for a quick lunch somewhere close by and this place popped up my Yelp! Ambiance was nice, we sat outside on their patio and it was perfect weather. Service was quick, we were sited right away and once we were ready order was placed in food came out in reasonable amount of time. Chicken Tinga was amazing. Full of flavors and they nailed it. Highly recommend it. Dobladitas de chilli poblano was second best dish we ordered. It was very well balanced and they tasted amazing. Tacos arrachera was really good. The meat was great. Other dish I recommend. Cheviche was ok. Not out favorite. Over all it was great experience, I would recommend this place.

Yelp
I tried this place out when I went to Sacramento. I tried going on a Wednesday night but it was a 1.5 hour wait so we left. We tried again Thursday night and there was no wait. We were seated right away. I only ordered an appetizer which was the tacos dorados de requeson. I love requeson so those were perfect. They come 5 small ones in a plate but definitely will fill you up. I also ordered a mezcal paloma, it was good but nothing out of the ordinary. Walking in the place is really pretty. Very artsy. The only thing I didn't understand was that the place said it was a museum but I didn't see anything that gave me museum vibes. Except they just have a lot of alcohol and murals and art showcased in the walls.

Yelp
My wife and I visited here for our anniversary lunch, having made a reservation in advance. We later discovered that it's an "elevated" Mexican restaurant, but looking back, an authentic street Mexican cantina might have been a better choice for us. We started with chips, salsa, and guacamole as our appetizer. I ordered the Mexican Mule, which I enjoyed, and chose the Arrachera Méxicana con enchilada for my main course. My wife went with the Mayan Margarita and three mini chicken tinga crispy tostadas with a side of Mexican rice. While the drinks were decent, the food didn't quite meet our expectations. It wasn't bad, but given the hype surrounding this place, we were expecting something more. Instead, the dishes were just okay, nothing that really stood out or made a lasting impression. The ambiance was visually appealing, with vibrant colors and design elements inspired by Mexican culture. The setting was intimate, though a bit on the crowded side. The service was good, but nothing particularly memorable. In the end, the experience felt like an ordinary meal out, rather than a celebration of our special day.

Yelp
If you know, you know! Just in case you don't, let me explain...3rd stop on food tour and by far my favorite!! We were served their signature soup and it was amazing. We also had chips and salsa which tasted fresh and enjoyable. Also served was a mock cocktail called Asi Sabe Mexico served with a watermelon garnish. The service was commendable. The restaurant was gorgeous and cozy.

Yelp
Solid authentic Mexican food and drinks. I typically go here for the ABUNDANCE of amazing Mezcals. Highly recommend if you are a tequila/mezcal drinker.

Yelp
Excellent traditional Mexican flavors. Great spot for business lunch especially if you have business happening at the convention center nearby. Ambiance: cozy, filled will bright, colorful, Mexican art Attire: casual +, business Crowd: mixture of business and friends Age: all Food 8/10 Service: 10/10 (v fast!) The spot is an explosion of the senses from all the amazing decor to the bright flavorful food. Check out the spot in Sacramento. Our server was so friendly and attentive. He had our drinks within seconds and our food came out faster than we could've imagined. Usually, this means that the food is premade and not very good. It's likely this food was premade, but also still delicious. I had the chicken mole platter. I love Mole and this did not disappoint. My business colleague enjoyed his meal as well. He did ask if they made the tortillas in house which unfortunately they do not, but I can see with the amount of tables in the space that they do a lot of volume so that is likely why they use premade. Great spot for a quick lunch .

Yelp
I'm very disappointed with our experience at Tequila Museo Mayahuel given it was just me and my friend who spent nearly $100 for not so great food. The highlight of our lunch was our drinks and chips with salsa and guacamole. WOW... that should say a lot. On the other hand, our small plates and main entree were lacking so much flavor and barely tasted like it was seasoned/marinated. The drinks we got were Mango Y Chile (on the rocks) & La Flor. I'm not a huge tequila fan but this drink is allowing me to have a change of heart. Chamoy, you can never go wrong with and the agave gave it a hint of sweetness. My friend enjoyed the La Flor and the taste of hibiscus along with a slight spice from the jalapeño were different but good different! Chips were salted and thick providing a great crunch when using to dip into the salsa + Guac. By the way, Guac was seasoned well! Loved it!!! For our meal we ordered Brochetas de Chorizo Y Queso (small plate) and Carne de Puerco en Salsa Verde (entree). Coming out to our table they looked delicious! After a few minutes of us tasting everything it was unfortunately subpar. The chorizo had some tough parts (unappetizing to me) which I had to spit out. This made my dining experience unpleasant and wished the cheese could've been more present. Seemed almost nonexistent. The pork for the entree was very tender, however, didn't taste like much. Salt would've gone a long way here! Rice just seemed like white rice not necessarily Spanish rice. My friend said it reminded her of minute rice. :( Lastly, we ended our meal with a dessert. We've both had flan before so we opted for Imposible. Man, this dessert was a disgrace. The flan itself was very gelatinous and broke down in my mouth like extra firm tofu. It even looked like tofu!!! Chocolate cake near the bottom half I couldn't even get past and I like chocolate. It tasted too firm and gummy. Sadly, this is not a place I'd recommend nor come back to. I hope it was an off day for the restaurant and others have a better experience than we did. I still can't get over how much we spent on this food when I can get stuff for half the price at a mom and pop restaurant.

Yelp
Tequila Museo Mayahuel is perfectly located next to the Esquire IMAX. It's my go to restaurant whenever I have a movie night. They have a great selection of tequilas that you can sample. We did a flight of 3 and they were all very tasty. I ordered the carne arrachera with enchilad plate and it was perfection. The plate I usually order is the tacos de carne asada con rajas. The delicious rajas elevates that bite for me, and it's not common in other Mexican restaurants I've tried in the area. Tequila cocktails are delicious as well. Service was excellent. Ambiance was perfect for a date night or a group gathering. Low lights and music was not loud at all.

Yelp
This is always the first stop as we arrive to Sacramento. The drinks are strong and spot on. The food is also delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Service is always on point and excellent. The ambiance is great overall. It can get very busy in the evening. While sitting at the bar, the bartender gave us excellent recommendations of places to see if we had time while in the city.

Yelp
Greeted upon entry and was sat when the table for 6 was ready. Sarita was nice and helpful. I got the mango y chili frozen margarita. OMG OMG IT WAS GREAT! We got guacamole and chips...even better. I had the pork with green sauce. The meat was tender, the sauce was flavorful. I had to make myself stop eating.

Yelp
We received a warm welcome and good service. We were looking forward to trying fish tacos. After enjoying crispy tortilla chips and salsa our tacos were presented. Although nicely presented, they were so spicy I could not eat them. When I asked the first server if I may have missed this information on the menu, he said maybe next time we shd request the sauce on the side. Ok, yes probably so, but not helpful at the moment. The 2nd server we asked this question of simply apologized. I then asked to speak to the manager. Within a moment the chef came to our table to inquire of the problem. We shared how much we were looking forward to the tacos and that they were too spicy to eat. He was so very gracious. We were treated wonderfully with an apology and asked if he could remake them for us without the sauce. Although we said one taco would be wonderful and so appreciated, he brought us the remade taco, beautifully presented, with enough fish for all 3 tacos. It was very tasty and enjoyable. That was the response we should have received with our first inquiry. Thank you kindly Chef Edwardo. You made my night. And we will return.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was great Inside the restaurant ambiance is great. All great till the end. I really hate when there is a hidden fee, nothing on the menu that says anything about 3.5% kitchen retention that I was not aware of. Then on the toast pay machine, it starts from 30%,25% and 20%. And it's top of the 3.5% tip plus the tax. Something I was not aware of and playing this kind of game won't last long. Everyone should call credit card company and file a dispute for unknown, not agreed charges. It's a Scam to me

Yelp
The ambiance of this restaurant was exceptionally appealing. The decor was tastefully done. On a lovely day, the outdoor seating area was ideal. Every dish was outstanding. Service was efficient. Unfortunately, parking was hard to come by on a mid-week afternoon. All the garages were full. I ended up parking quite a few blocks away. I'd have to say my favorite was the salad. So good!

Yelp
Food & service were great! Went with 2 gringos who don't like spice. They enjoyed their food & cocktails. I had the cameronnes & the waiter brought spicy salsa on the side that was very flavorful & hot!!! Inside is nicely decorated! First visit & not my last!!!!

Yelp
Highly recommend this spot for Happy Hour for folks that work Downtown. The food is unique, flavorful and delicious. We order the Bocaditos de Mexico, which is a variety plate of six individual bites of their unique dishes. I got to try a little of everything! It's also a perfect dish for an indecisive individual, lol. We also order their Tacos de Requesón. You get four tacos that are covered in pico de gallo, lettuce, and cotija. I've never had requesón but if you like ricotta cheese then you'll love it too. It's super creamy. I also really loved their poblano chile dishes. The Rajas Pablano was so good. Definitely would order a bigger plate of it. It's super clean inside and our waiter was attentive. Lastly, the Asi Sabe Margarita was refreshing, perfect for a soon to be Sacramento hot day. Just as the sign out front says - you'll LOVE it.

Yelp
Always consistently on point!! Service, Ambiance & Food are always excellent. If you need to show off one of Sac's premier dining experiences, Tequila Museo Mayahuel won't disappoint. Try the new Enelalma Tequila, one of the best Tequila's on the market.
