The 20 Best Ramen Spots In Los Angeles - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Sawtelle is home to plenty of pork-heavy ramen shops, but there aren’t many like Torisoba Sumiya, a chicken ramen specialist where cooks flip birds over open flames. This charcoal-grilled chicken adds a smoky depth to the house ramen, which comes with freshly made noodles and an intensely rich poultry broth with charred specks. Spoon on some of their green yuzu sauce for a peppery bite, and upgrade to the mini rice bowl combo for $5 more (we like the one topped with surprisingly light fried chicken tossed in the sweet and sour sauce). The space is tight, but if you come solo, head to the bar where you’ll sit front row to the grilling action, gaze at the Japanese calligraphy on the walls, and slurp your noodles in peace." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder, cathy park

The Best 16 Ramen Shops in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"A huge departure from the existing ramen styles in Southern California, Torisoba Sumiya goes into the former Yakitori-ya space in Sawtelle Japantown serving a unique blackened chicken-tinted broth. Cooks utilize the existing grill that was previously for yakitori, shaking pieces of seasoned chicken in a wire basket over charcoal. The resulting smoky, charred flavor becomes a prominent part of the all-chicken broth. Wirey green onions, crunchy radish circles, seaweed laver, and a hard-boiled egg provide contrasting bites, while scratchmade alkaline noodles reside under the toppings. This is easily one of the best new ramen bowls in Los Angeles." - Matthew Kang

The charcoal-grilled ramen is a unique experience! The ramen also has a very charcoal rich broth, but by the end of the bowl the flavor got overwhelming and old. There was no line on a Friday at 5 pm but by 6-7 pm there was a line. The space is small so it gets filled quickly! Glad I tried, but I wouldn’t get again :)

Excellent chicken based ramen. Ordered both spicy and regular sliced chicken ramen. Amazing flavors. Added the charcoal chicken as part of a combo. It was a good flavor but can be strong on the charcoal flavor. It was good though a nice change of pace. It came w rice and was only $5 more. You can order regular or large at no cost.

At Torisoba Sumiya in Sawtelle, the signature dish is a chicken-based ramen topped with beautifully chargrilled chicken. It is quite unique in Los Angeles, where ramen usually focuses on tonkotsu or miso styles. On our visit, even though it was the weekend, we only waited about five minutes before being seated, which shows the restaurant has a relatively quick turnover. The interior is casual yet welcoming, designed with warm wood accents that create a cozy atmosphere, although the table seating felt a bit tight. One charming detail is that you can see the chefs grilling the chicken over charcoal through a glass window at the counter, which adds to the dining experience. The menu features three main types of ramen as well as rice bowls, which can also be ordered as sets. The broth is lighter than tonkotsu but still rich in chicken flavor, paired with thin noodles that complement the soup well. The Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen stands out with its smoky, chargrilled flavor, while the Pure Rich Chicken Ramen is more refined and mild, making it a great option for children or those who prefer a delicate taste. The spicy ramen was flavorful without being overwhelmingly hot. A highlight was the yuzu kosho condiment, recommended by the staff it pairs perfectly with the grilled chicken and provides a refreshing change of flavor. Overall, it was a satisfying experience with a balance of quality, atmosphere, and originality.

Stopped into Torisoba Sumiya recently and was really impressed with their Tori Paitan Ramen — one of the best bowls of chicken ramen in LA and a standout among Sawtelle ramen spots. The broth was luxuriously rich yet clean, packed with deep umami that lingers without being heavy. The noodles had excellent bite, and the tender chicken chashu was cooked just right. The seasoned egg was a highlight — creamy and flavorful. Everything was balanced and thoughtfully put together. Hands down one of the best chicken-based ramen bowls I’ve tried. I also tried the Charcoal Grilled Chicken Don — it was solid, with good char and flavor, but didn’t wow me the way the ramen did. Next time I’d come back just for the ramen. Friendly service and comfortable space — a perfect spot when you want a quality bowl without the crazy waits some other Sawtelle places have. If you’re looking to explore beyond tonkotsu, this is an excellent place for chicken ramen in LA. I’ll definitely be returning for that broth!

Google
One of the most unique and authentic ramen places I’ve ever tried. I LOVED the charred chicken in the ramen. The spice level was excellent. It was absolutely delicious. The noodles were also cooked to perfection. It’s such a hidden gem! 💎 I will definitely be coming here again! 10/10 experience

Google
Pains me to give this place a low rating, but I really didn’t like the ramen. In fact no one in our party of 3 liked their ramen (we tried the Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen and Pure Rich Chicken Ramen). The chargrilled chicken is an interesting choice, but not for me. All the ramen broths are chicken based and had a bit of a slimed texture that I didn’t like. The fried chicken with Tartar sauce was alright, but reminded us of fish n chips.

Google
Free parking below! Got seated right away around 5. The service was very friendly. Had the bbq chicken bowl spicy which the serve recommended. I loved it. The broth is so rich and exactly the best parts of chicken. We also got the fried chicken tartar bowl that was so balanced and tasty. Every bite was an explosion of flavor. This is our new favorite spot.

Yelp
Torisoba does ramen in a way that I've never seen done anywhere else before, that alone I think is worth a visit! They cook their chicken over charcoal and it sits on top of a perfectly cooked bed of noodles coated with their savory chicken "chowder" broth. I think the chowder just refers to the viscosity of their broth almost resembling a chowder, and it's so good. They even give you an option to upgrade the size to a large for free! We also got their combo set which for +$5 they give you a rice bowl of your choice. We got the fried chicken rice bowl and it was so good, they use either a tempura or beer batter, it's flaky, fluffy, and crispy. So good. Great lunch spot, can't wait to be back!

Yelp
This place used to be a yakitori restaurant, but was bought out by Gindaco some time ago and turned into a ramen restaurant. The original owner of the yakitori restaurant still works there I believe, and they came together to create this yakitori ramen place. The interior has a slightly modern Japanese flair to it, from the paneling to the signs and decorations, and most of the kitchen is visible from the dining area, letting you see the chefs hard at work. The servers are very friendly and easy to flag down, even when it's busy. I got the large yakitori ramen. The visual of the bowl on its own is pretty striking and distinctive, the light char on the chicken creating this smoky look that bleeds into the broth. The broth is a very rich and delicious chicken broth, and the charred bits from the yakitori mix into it and create a wonderful marriage of flavors that I didn't expect but love all the same. The chicken is perfectly cooked, and the noodles had the perfect amount of firmness. A wonderful bowl of ramen, one of the best I've had in the states. I also had a taste of the vegan ramen, and the broth was surprisingly flavorful and rich for a vegan broth. A nice, lighter alternative if you're not feeling like something rich. This was my second visit to this spot, and it was just as good as the first. A definite contender for best ramen in LA.

Yelp
My favorite ramen spot on Sawtelle now! All their ramens are chicken broth based and you can see them char firing their chicken and scallions in the open kitchen. The broth was super rich and flavorful without being overwhelming like a lot of other restaurant ramens. You can choose to get regular or large noodle portion for the same price. We were able to walk in for 2 people around 8pm on a Friday. I will be coming back!

Yelp
Ordered a combo of rich chicken ramen and a sweet & sour fried chicken rice bowl. The rice bowl was delicious. Really enjoyed the sauce, loved how lightly but flavorfully the chicken was breaded. It was so crispy and tasty, and paired perfectly with the rice. The small portion was just right for me. The chicken ramen was just okay to me. The broth was a bit too rich and heavy, and lacked distinctive flavor or texture. The chicken, on the other hand, was so tender and juicy which I appreciated--but ultimately couldn't finish it due to the richness of the overall dish. The combo price was definitely worth it, but I left wanting more out of the ramen. If I come back, I would want to try their other rice bowls, and give a different ramen flavor a shot!

Yelp
Solid 4/5 stars. Meat is cooked & flavored tastefully, ramen broth has depth & a yummy kick of spice, rice is sticky & perfectly sweet, life is good. I really can't be mad. I enjoyed the BBQ chicken bowl over rice which was great & not too heavy. My friends ordered the #1 & #3 which are the normal & spicy ramen bowls. Tasted pretty delicious. But not out-of-this-world crazy delicious, you know?

Yelp
Small ramen restaurant. They moved some tables to accommodate our group. We ordered: Friend chicken bowl: 4/5 $6 chicken was nicely fried but the ramen was the clear winner. Chicken ramen: 5/5 $19 very rich and filling broth, noodles had nice texture and chicken was good. Bbq chicken ramen: 5/5 $21 nice charcoal grilled flavor. Very different! A must try! Good efficient service.

Yelp
Not a big Ramen fan in general, but heard good things about Torisoba and their chicken so I wanted to give it a shot. Located in Sawtelle area, I left a little later than usual in order for traffic to die down a bit since that area gets a bit crowded. Ordered the ramen + edamame + chicken that everyone recommended. Wow that chicken was so tender and salted well. You can taste the coals the chicken was cooked on so it made it extra authentic and delicious. Ramen was good as well. Wish it was bigger (you can order a bigger size) Parking is hell and you have to find street parking only unfortunately

Yelp
The charcoal bbq chicken ramen is amazing. The chicken has a good smoky flavor and pairs well with the yuzu pepper sauce. The soup broth is excellent and rich chicken flavor. Included toppings are fairly generous. Large noodle portion is a free upgrade, though honestly the noodles themselves are probably the weak point of the dish. They tend to be borderline overcooked and too soft. Service is pretty quick, no complaints. The location is small and dense, tightly packed and often crowded. I actually don't mind because it has an authentic ramen shop feel to it! Never had to wait later in the evening, not sure about peak hours.

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday for dinner in a group of 4 and got seated immediately. The interior is pretty tight but there's just enough space for everyone. Music was playing very quietly in the background. 3 of us got the #1 charcoal japanese bbq chicken ramen with spice in a Large, and I got the #3 rich spicy chicken ramen in a Large. Our orders took around 15 minutes to come out. The large looks really small at first but it's super filling! There is a spicy yuzu topping/sauce on each table, and it adds a light flavor of yuzu to the ramen. It's also salty, so don't add too much. The charcoal japanese bbq chicken ramen and the #3 rich spicy chicken ramen seems to have the same broth, just different chicken added. #1 has a rich charcoal flavor all over the chicken that gets mixed in with the soup. The chicken is tender and not dry at all. I personally don't like charcoal flavors that much so I ordered the #3 rich spicy chicken ramen and I thoroughly enjoyed it! The chicken looks bland in the pictures but the soup is SO rich and flavorful that the chicken just becomes a carrier for the broth. The chicken is also super tender and I liked that there weren't any strands of fat or tendons. Also, the soft boiled egg was probably the best jammy egg I have ever had in a ramen bowl. I think it was soy marinated slightly. It also comes with bamboo shoots, fresh green onions, and a cut of seaweed. Overall we all enjoyed the ramen a lot! For chicken ramen, the price points do seem a bit steep, but the broth was so good and very worth it. Would recommend!

Yelp
Huge disappointment at this restaurant. We used to come here at least once or twice a month, but last week we were treated with such rude, disrespectful, and disgusting manners when we dined in. First, the non-Asian lady completely ignored us even though there were two open tables. We had to call out to get her attention, and she looked visibly annoyed. When she finally took our order, she didn't say a single word. Then, the short Hispanic guy who brought our food didn't even bother placing the ramen in front of me. He just left everything on one side of the table without saying a word--no "thank you" or "enjoy." Normally, that wouldn't be a big deal, but what bothered us was that he treated the white guys sitting next to us completely differently--smiling, greeting them politely, and saying "enjoy." We were like, WTF? Isn't this supposed to be a Japanese restaurant? Why are Asian customers being treated like this? To make it worse, one of us was still eating when that same non-Asian lady came over with the payment machine literally right in our faces. Like, WTF? Did we even ask for the check? No. She only came because the two white girls next to us had just finished. As soon as she processed their check, she rushed to us. Honestly, those girls had been there long before us, sitting and chatting for a while even after finishing their ramen, yet she never once pressured them to pay. But us? We'd been there for less than 30 minutes. Seriously, what's going on here? We've never experienced anything like this before. Treating regulars this way is unacceptable. We're never coming back. WTF happened here? Plus, their ramen always takes forever anyway.
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
I was skeptical of chicken ramen but this was genuinely incredible! The charred smoky flavor of the BBQ chicken with a rich broth and yummy noodles - couldn't ask for much for than that! Honestly was craving it again days after I had it and will definitely come back. Cute spot with lots of indoor seating. Will be back!

Yelp
Two things to know before eating here: you must like chicken, and you must enjoy a thick, gravy-like broth! Every ramen and rice bowl option is chicken-based, and the ramen broth has an extremely rich chicken flavor. I had the Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen ($20.98), which includes charcoal-grilled chicken. The bowls may look small, but the dish is incredibly filling. You can choose between a regular or large noodle portion for the same price. They also offer combos with a small rice bowl for an extra $5.90 if you want a little variety. You can see and smell the chicken and onion being grilled behind the bar. It smells amazing in there! I've also tried the fried chicken and ground chicken. Both are solid, but the BBQ chicken and the broth are the standouts here, and I don't think I've had anything else quite like them at other local ramen restaurants. The noodles are great. I recommend trying the yuzu paste included on the table. It adds a little extra little pop of flavor. The shop is small, so service is fast with a quick turnaround. There is underground parking located in The Olympic Collection building. Last time I parked there on a weeknight, they charged $5 upon entry to the lot. I usually look for street parking elsewhere in the area, especially if I'm there on the earlier side. Overall, a satisfying meal. It is on the higher end of standard ramen pricing, but I think it is worth it for the quality and strong flavors.

Paola A.

Yelp
Torisoba Sumiya was amazing! My boyfriend got the #1 Japanese BBQ chicken ramen, and I got the #3 rich spicy chicken ramen -- both were so good. We also ordered the fried chicken with TarTar sauce, and boy was it delicious -- crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and that tartar sauce tied it all together perfectly. The housmade noodles were perfectly chewy and bouncy, you can really taste that they're fresh and made in-house. The broth was rich, flavorful, and super comforting without feeling too heavy. The service was also great -- everyone was friendly and attentive. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to!
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
We ordered the Pure Rich Chicken Ramen for $19 and was left feeling extremely ripped off. The for the price the portion was too small, only had half a basic egg and two pieces of rubbery chicken. The broth left a LOT to be desired with my eating mate saying, he'd rather have American Chicken Noodle soup. The protein was barely seasoned and not a great texture. I was still hungry after the bowl and very confused at how they could charge so much for something so unsatisfying. Service is great and the space is cute, but the bowl was not rich and something I would have paid $7 for.
google avatar

Ethan Y.

Yelp
The ramen is delicious here. The charred green onions are the star in the broth, which is light and flavorful. I'm really happy with this, and I'd love to come back. The seating is uncomfortable, though.
google avatar

Zx W.

Yelp
Broth: The chicken oil base was flavorful but leaned a bit heavy for my taste -- rich and comforting at first, but slightly overwhelming toward the end. Noodles: Excellent texture -- perfectly springy and chewy, with that satisfying bite that shows real attention to cooking time. Toppings: The marinated egg was perfect -- soft, jammy yolk and great flavor that went really well with the noodles. The chicken was cooked nicely and super tender, but it was a bit plain and could've used a little more juiciness or seasoning to really pop. Chicken Dishes: Both the Chicken Nanban and the charcoal-grilled chicken were standout dishes. The Nanban was a masterpiece -- crispy batter, tangy-sweet sauce, and that creamy egg tartar on top brought everything together beautifully. The charcoal-grilled chicken was unbelievably delicious at first bite -- deeply smoky and juicy -- though the intensity of the flavor became a bit repetitive toward the end.

Yelp
Intrigued by the combination of ramen and yakitori, we decided to give the restaurant a try while visiting Sawtelle Japantown. Inside it has a rustically charming Japanese ramen place vibe with seating for around 30 people. A glass wall separates the dining area and open kitchen. The staff were friendly and brought the menu and water right after we were seated. We ordered the traditional Tonkotsu ramen (no charge for extra noodles), and the food arrived in 10 minutes. The broth had a very nice flavor and was slightly thick with a hint of collagen. The presence of charcoal from grilled chicken greatly enhanced the taste and aroma of the broth. The thin noodles were perfectly cooked, and the grilled chicken pieces were very tender. The egg was boiled just right with runny yolk. Another great ramen option in Sawtelle.
google avatar

Duke C.

Yelp
Imagine tonkotsu, but instead of pork, it's with chicken! First of all, I will say there like intense tonkotsu ramen that's got a bit of that pork funk, the chicken ramen here got a bit of that chicken funk as well. However, the flavor's intense and really unlike the pork broth ramen you can see everywhere else. Thick, creamy, fatty. The Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen is the one that everybody goes for, and it's this chicken ramen that's topped with charcoal grilled chicken. The grilled chicken does add a bit of that smokiness to the ramen but I think I actually prefer their Chicken Charsu as topping. The spicy version is also a good choice as the spiciness actually help break up the intense broth a bit. Overall good spot for a version of ramen that you don't get to see that often!
google avatar

Marc N.

Yelp
This place is good, but they're known for their bbq chicken in ramen. I ordered the spicy regular chicken... then my girlfriend ordered the bbq chicken. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of their well known bowl of ramen. It's almost like, charred bits with corn starch to make a thicker broth and it's a heavy grill taste in ramen. I actually liked the regular chicken ramen better. Good ramen texture, creamy broth that was "cleaner", etc..
google avatar

Thu-Ha T.

Yelp
The Japanese BBQ Chicken rice bowl and ramen dishes are delicious and a must try! The Japanese BBQ chicken are charcoal grilled which was fun to watch how they are made. Every bite resonated with an unforgettable aroma and flavor that was enjoyable to your palate and mind! We enjoyed these dishes along with the Pure Rich Chicken Ramen and Fried Chicken with Tartar Sauce. Place can get packed and everyone from your party must be present to be seated. Service was friendly.
google avatar

Yelp
What I love about ramen shops in LA is that they can give more than just your standard miso, shoyu, tonkotsu(which are still great), and Torisoba Sumiya is a welcomed addition to Sawtelle with their unique chicken broth. I had the BBQ Chicken Ramen and Nanban Don combination. The ramen had a very nice smoky/charcoal finish to it, from the broth to the chicken. The ramen itself is like a mix between yakitori and ramen, with the chefs even cooking it on the same grill and using tare. The nanban was light, crispy, and good. Overall satisfied and definitely will have this in my rotation of ramen spots.

Yelp
Came here for the grand opening on 10/6, and had a fun time! You can tell the staff were really excited for the opening and were encouraging customers to share their thoughts, recording the atmosphere, etc. They also had a deal for the first 100 customers, to get half off of ramen bowls! The inside of the place is clean and nice-there were counter seats as well as normal tables. Service was fast as well and when they accidentally discounted us too much, they let us have it due to calculation error. My whole party of 5 ordered the BBQ chicken ramen, which seems to be their specialty. The chicken is made of charcoal and has a very smoky flavor, which seeps into the broth. The broth was very smooth and creamy while still being light, which I liked. The noodles were bouncy but slightly hard/chewy for my taste. The uniqueness of this ramen is no debate, I've never had ramen with this flavor profile and it was fun to try a charcoal chicken ramen! Though candidly the flavor was too smokey for my own tastes. I would recommend coming here once to see for yourself!
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
I haven't tried the ramen here yet but the chicken and rice bowls are pretty good! I highly recommend the ground chicken bowl which was flavorful, and came with a small soup. The soup is really tasty, albeit quite oily. I poured some of the broth in my rice bowl to give it additional flavor. I also added some spicy yuzu that's provided at the table. The tables are tiny for two people and quite uncomfortable, but the bar is great! I felt so cramped the first time I dined here while sitting at the high top. Service is prompt and efficient. I would come back to try the ramen.
google avatar

Kimberley W.

Yelp
I love the food here! I came twice in the past two weeks with different friends who had never been. The charcoal grilled chicken is such a unique flavour, I highly recommend it! I usually get the bowl but will grab the ramen and add a bowl for later!

Yelp
One of the most insane and unique ramen places in LA. Torisoba brings the charcoal flavor and rich tastes of Japanese chicken ramen to sawtelle. I had the BBQ chicken ramen and it was a very rich broth and had lots of pieces of chicken. An insane mashup of some of my favorite foods. If you're looking for a unique ramen experience that does not disappoint, give Torisoba a try!
google avatar

Rich T.

Yelp
Wow, I'm pretty skeptical about ramen places. They are so many that pop that are decent but after a while they all seem to be the same. Not this place. I feel like was transported to Japan. The chicken noodle soup they have here is amazing. The noodles are perfectly cooked, the broth is flavorful, and the chicken is tender. The ramen is probably as healthy as you can get when you eat ramen. Try this place out. It's delicious!
google avatar

Will X.

Yelp
Torisoba is a chicken ramen shop where you're find some delicious, soothing booth and noodles with good view. They specialize in a bbq chicken where they'll cook it over the grill so you'll get some nice char flavor. Chicken ramen (non-bbq) was decent. Chicken itself was cooked fine but a bit bland as if health was the key, so prob best for when you want some chicken ramen to cure a hangover or cold. Def needs the table green yuzu for a kick. The bbq chicken bowl was delightful - good sauce on the rice and chicken had good portions. The deep fried chicken app is a good shareable bite as well. Worth a visit to try something new in sawtelle
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
Really good customer service, the restaurant is more on the smaller side so it can get crowded during peak hours The noodles are pretty starchy so paired with the super rich broth it's a very comforting meal, all the flavors really coat the inside of your mouth and the portion size is perfect. LOVE the yuzu koshox, it helps cut from the richness of the broth A regular and large are all the same price so I would opt for the large! The fried chicken is still really juicy but crispy on the outside
google avatar

Winn H.

Yelp
Torisoba Sumiya features chicken ramen ramen, and I have to admit that this is my first time ever having chicken in ramen. The staff were all friendly, and with options to sit at tables or the bar and no preference, my friend and I didn't even have to wat. Our seats? Direct view of the chefs! We ordered their Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen (#1) - how could I not? Now, boiled chicken is nothing to be excited over, but Torisoba Sumiya really mastered the charcoal grill. Bite to bite, charred chicken met my mouth met my teeth, and I couldn't wait for the next crispy crunch. Unfortunately, the flavor was a tad off - potentially sour - though I had expected this. I highly recommend their spicy, black seasoning, as it made the chicken much more tolerable, masking some of the sourness. Beyond the chicken, all the other ingredients were tasty, especially the egg. Portions? Appropriate and satisfying! All in all, from sit down to stand up, there was nothing outside of the taste of chicken that could have been improved. I believe mastering chicken in broth will be difficult, but I'm really glad I gave Torisoba Sumiya a try.

Yelp
Dined in on 2/24/25 around 5:40 PM: It's closer to a 4.5 for me - the ramen and chicken was unique and tasty but the protein portions run on the smaller side in my opinion. There are tons of noodles and broth in the ramen though. The broth was had a delightful savory chicken taste without being fatty or overwhelming. Had a bite of the Japanese bbq rice and it was cooked just right. The whole meal felt very healthy so I think it's a great alternative if you want to feel full but not be in a food coma post meal. Service was super quick, we were in and out within 30 minutes. Parking is metered street parking (free after 8 PM!) and the gender neutral bathrooms were clean (I used both of them lol). Ambience is casual and I like the counter seating area where you can see the chefs work. Appreciate the plastic (?) barrier that blocks the smoke from coming out the kitchen but still allows you to watch the chefs working.

Yelp
30 minutes wait for a table on Saturday around 7:30pm. Another 30 minutes wait for our food after we place the order. Portions a bit small for the price but the soup is very rich and creamy. Also ordered a rice bowl. My favorite part of the whole meal was the white rice. Short grained, jasmine rice. Would love to know the brand of rice they serve here.

Yelp
Free upgrades to large! Skip the spicy chicken ramen (too oily) Definitely try the charcoal chicken ramen! The chicken flavor is so rich and yummy.

Yelp
Love this place! This location used to be Yakitoriya and Chef Toshi sold his place and currently helping out at this new restaurant. I only order the Bbq chicken bowl as it's soooo good! Adding the yuzu to the chicken takes it to the next level. My hubby loves the ramen!

Yelp
Ramen is so good! Service was fast. Only one server was on the floor while the restaurant was full. She was amazing! Sit by the counter to watch the chefs cook. Will keep coming back. Btw, this location is better than the one in Torrance.

Yelp
This chicken ramen is completely different from what I have ever had. The primary difference is that the chicken is grilled- so the charred taste is on point and as the grilled chicken sits in the broth, the flavors mix well. We ordered their popular bbq chicken ramen and a fried chicken with tartar sauce rice bowl. Both dishes were super! The fried chicken with tartar sauce reminded me of how much I enjoyed this as a child! The ramen broth was rich and you end up devouring and sipping it all the way to the very end. The portions are rather small for the $20.99 price for a bowl of ramen compared to most places like ramen nagi, tatsunoya which have been my utmost favorite. You definitely need your own bowl and unable to share but definitely worth a try since it is quite different. Parking at the basement lot that the building was located in gave us 45mins free and then $5 thereafter. Just not sure if they charge $5 every hour after or not but 45 mins for this place was definitely not enough. We arrived and was told a 30-35 min wait - as the place was small- but we did find a spot for 3- after the server had asked a couple to move down two seats to be able to accommodate us 3 at the counter. We thanked the people for moving down ofcourse- but truthfully, I would have moved down regardless to give people space without being asked. Ambiance was great- very chill and service was good as well. Would come back to try out their rich chicken ramen next and the other rice bowl dishes.

Yelp
Tight seating! Came with one other person, and our table was tiny with high chairs, close to the tables next to us. I ordered the charcoal chicken bowl. I liked that it came with a little soup. They said it was similar to the ramen broth. The charcoal flavor was really strong- I liked it, but I could see if others would not. The fried chicken was very tasty, would order again. Overall, the menu is pretty small, just chicken ramen and bowls. I would come back! The charcoal flavor differentiates itself from other noodle places on Sawtelle.

Yelp
Amazing ramen place in Sawtelle. I stopped in for quick lunch and really enjoyed their bbq chicken ramen. They're located next door to Brian Shave Ice. Place is very small, seating is limited to handful tables and bar counter. Menu is super simple with few chicken ramen and rice bowl dishes. I sat at counter which gives you great view of the cooks making your food, especially when they grill the chicken. I got bbq chicken ramen and upgraded to combo #4 chicken rice bowl for extra $5. The ramen was wonderful. Chicken was really smoky and nicely seasoned. Love chicken broth, its full bodied, thick and rich flavor. Not pork broth which you often get at most ramen places. Noodles have good chewy texture and soft-bowl egg perfectly executed. The rice bowl was just as delicious. Charred onions and bbq sauce add extra umami. Thought green yuzu sauce was okay, really didn't do it for me. Service was good and attentive. Only complaint is they only serve one kind of beer, Suntory ...what's up with that! Where's Asahi and Sapporo? Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!

Yelp
This is a small shop near Sawtelle, had a good ambience and the seating was a little tight, but not uncomfortable. We had the Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen. I ordered the large, but couldn't really tell that much of a difference from the regular. Service was a bit slow, but we ate during peak hours so it was understandable. The taste was deep and unique, but definitely not your typical ramen. The char is intense and flavorful, I enjoyed the taste but its not for everyone.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I've been blown away by a restaurant, but Torisoba Sumiya exceeded my expectations and was definitely a memorable meal. The space is pretty small but we were seated right away at the counter around 11:45am on a Sunday. Since they're known for their charcoal chicken, we knew we had to try it for ourselves. We ordered the Japanese bbq chicken ramen, the rich chicken ramen, and a small Japanese bbq chicken rice added as a combo. For the ramens, the regular and large portion for noodles is the same price so we got the large. We enjoyed watching them cook the chicken on the grill through the glass pane shielding us from the smoke, and food arrived shortly. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The Japanese bbq chicken is definitely the star of the show - perfectly tender with so much flavor without being oily in any way. The rich chicken ramen was delicious as well, with the creamy broth that we drank every last drop of without it being overly salty. Not to mention there is a spicy yuzu pepper paste on the table, which gives another level of depth to the ramen. Every dish was executed perfectly, and it was so comforting and had the right amount of umami that left me thinking about when to come back. Overall, such a unique take on Japanese bbq chicken that I don't think can be found anywhere else in LA. I can't wait to return if I'm in the area!

Yelp
This place is great. I had the Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen combo which comes with the ramen itself and a small rice bowl of your choice for only 5 additional dollars. I chose the Fried Chicken with Tartar Sauce bowl. The ramen lived up to its name and was rich and spicy. It has become my new favorite ramen spot in West LA. The rice bowl was pretty good too, though nothing mind blowing. I was seated right away once arriving. However, it's a pretty small space, so I'm wondering if I just got lucky, or if people haven't caught on to how great this place is since it is new.

Yelp
My gf and I have been tired of the same old ramen offered by numerous spots in all of LA and then found this spot. We came on a weekend at around 6:00 pm and got seated within 10 minutes. I ordered the pure rich chicken ramen and my gf ordered the japanese bbq chicken ramen with a small fried chicken with tartar sauce bowl. The order arrived within 10 minutes. The pure rich chicken ramen had very rich chicken flavor, and not the chicken stock kind. The chicken meat in the ramen was interesting with a slightly sweet taste. The combination of the noodles + broth + chicken meat was just chicken heaven. I tried a little bit of the japanese bbq chicken and the smokiness in the chicken was incredible. I could taste the slightly burnt aroma with each bite and even in the soup itself. The fried chicken with tartar sauce bowl was also surprisngly not greasy or heavy at all. The light crispiness of the chicken went well with the rice and tartar sauce. Overall, both my gf and I loved the food and will be coming back for more. The ramen here is distinctively different from all the surrounding ramen shops. Their focus on chicken instead of pork brings a unique taste to the ramen and is definitely worth trying. Wait time is definitely an issue though, since I heard it was about an hour by the time we left. The restaurant is really small and only has about 10 tables.

Yelp
Pretty cheap, tasty quick fix for japanese food. Grilled green onions are very smoky and i love them. Can be busy at certain times.

Yelp
Cute little place in Sawtelle! Service is quick and friendly. Broth is thicker chicken. The #2 just has chicken breast which was a little dry and hard.

Yelp
Apparently the quality and portions of their most popular #1 Japanese BBQ chicken ramen bowl are inconsistent. What I was served at a weekday lunch didn't quite resemble either the picture in the menu nor in the photos of other reviewers. Portions of soup, noodles, and chicken were all small considering the $21 price tag and the crispy charred texture of their grilled chicken was lost after soaking in soup even though much of the flavor remained. In my bowl were large dense undercooked onions that were chewy and definitely not ready for serving. Although this may not have been the experience of other diners, everyone in my party had this same underwhelming experience.

Yelp
I was SO excited when I saw that a new chicken ramen spot was opening up on the west side! IMO - chicken ramen is superior to pork-based broth, so I had really high hopes and Torisoba Sumiya did not disappoint! The shop itself was on the smaller side, but the shop was clean and efficient. Although they were really busy on the night we visited, the waitresses were all super friendly! One interesting thing was that our waitress asked us if we wanted a regular or large size, which isn't noted on the menu... Both cost the same price, and the size of the bowl is the same, but I think they just put more noodles into your bowl. My husband got the #1 Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen and we unfortunately both found it to be way too smoky for our preference. The char was insanely intense and wayyyy smokier than any other charcoal grilled meat I've ever had. The meat is placed right onto your broth, so the flavor seeps into your broth as well. I don't think this will be everyone's cup of tea, so I'd definitely recommend #2 over the #1. I got the #2 Pure Rich Chicken Ramen and it was AMAZING. The broth was bursting with flavor and to die for! The noodles were cooked to the perfect consistency, and I loved that the chicken was tender and very flavorful. It had the slight essence of char, but wasn't super overwhelming. I would 1000% return for this bowl of ramen!!

Yelp
Another great ramen spot on Sawtelle! Torisoba Sumiya specializes in chicken ramen and is a great option if you want a lighter and healthier broth. But just because it's lighter doesn't mean it isn't packed with flavor! The broth by itself is super flavorful and has a deep umami taste. The portions are kind of small meat wise, but they do give enough noodles (hint: the price of a regular or large noodles is the same!). I've tried both the bbq chicken which they cook over charcoal and the non-charcoal grilled chicken and the charcoal cooked chicken is definitely better! They don't give large portions of the chicken so I would recommend a side of the bbq chicken! Service-wise, everyone was very nice and the space is clean and feels pretty spacious despite the store being small. Overall, definitely a great ramen spot when you're craving a lighter broth!

Yelp
SHOW ME THE NOODS!! This place is fantastic and now our new favorite Ramen spot. It's a simple menu but it will surprise you in the best away!!! Only 3 options (BBQ Chicken, Chicken & Spicy Chicken). The ramen is flavorful, rich and homemade noodles - we couldn't stop eating, let alone breathing, until there was nothing left. It's a cozy place but plenty of room for 2 or move - we got lucky and sat at the bar (watching the chefs cooking / our favorite). We arrived at 7pm and waited 10 minutes for a table. We were in and out within 45 minutes (on a Friday night). The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. So if you're looking for a quick delicious meal, that won't break the bank, this is the spot! Parking is tough to find but not impossible. We went on a Friday night around 630pm-7pm and found street parking nearby. Pro tip: GO for the combo, five dollar add-on with your Ramen - you be disappointed. We added the fired chicken with tartar sauce combo and it's plenty for 1/2.

Yelp
One of the best places that serves chicken for a lot of their dishes. Found this place on TikTok and thought it's all hype. It's pretty solid and each dish was very flavorful. The service was very attentive and the reservation helped with how busy it can get. The ambiance feels like I'm in Japan with seating along the wall. The food I got was the spicy chicken ramen with their $5 small bowl of BBQ chicken. The portions are a good size and would come back here again!
