The Best New Restaurants in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"New vegan dining destination Vulture has entered the scene in University Heights, where it serves refined takes on classics like steak Diane, made here with an 8-ounce wood-grilled lion’s mane steak, and a Caesar salad for two prepared tableside like the original. Shareables such as vegan caviar service, crab cakes, pate, and Parker House rolls will have even omnivorous diners short on things to miss; the cocktail menu is robust with a separate martini list for those who like it myriad ways (try the Poet’s Dream with Italian seawater gin, dry vermouth, and bénédictine)." - Helen I. Hot San Diego Restaurant Openings You May Have Missed, June 2025 | Eater San Diego

"A fine-dining vegan experience housed inside the recently opened vegan diner Dreamboat, offering elevated plant-based dishes like a Steak Diane made from a wood-grilled lion’s mane mushroom steak and a tableside Caesar dressed with chickpea-based cultured Parmigiana. The beverage program is well conceived, featuring a Japanese-gin gimlet and a house martini that can be served as a miniature Classic or as an indulgent ‘The Works’ with pickled accoutrements, fried potato pave, and truffle caviar." - Helen I. Vulture is an absolute MUST-TRY in San Diego! We rarely get out for a dinner date, but we decided to treat ourselves to this new vegan fine dining speakeasy, and WOW, it exceeded all expectations. The atmosphere is gorgeous—seriously check out that incredible, moody, and dramatic decor (swipe to see the vibes!). But the food... the food was an experience. We started with the bread and bbq meatballs (so good!) and then the real show began! The highlight of the evening was getting to enjoy a table-side Caesar's salad (a first since our 1st anniversary!) and savoring the vegan Baked Alaska that was torched right in front of us! 🔥 (A taste of our honeymoon cruise, 29 years later!) Extraordinary food, next-level service, and unique mocktails. It was a welcomed break from home cooking and dish duty. If you're in SD, run, don't walk, to Vulture!

For a Vegan restaurant I had such a good time. A great addition to the neighborhood. I loved all the apps and drinks, but the Baked Alaska dessert stole the show. Delicious! Will definitely be back.

Visited a recently opened vegan restaurant in San Diego, owned by the same owner of my favorite spot, Kindred. The place feels like a well-kept secret since the entrance is hidden (you actually enter through the Dreamboat Cafe). Vulture has a great bar and appetizers, though the entree menu is on the shorter side. Here’s what I tried and my thoughts on each dish: Caviar Service – An appetizer with caviar and chips. They did a great job with the caviar—the texture felt just like real caviar—and it was served with a flavorful French onion dip. Cocktail Meatballs – A few meatballs served with apricot BBQ sauce. Simple, but good. Oscar – A very flavorful dish with a Beyond steak fillet and an interesting, tasty sauce. I really enjoyed this one. Diane – A vegan steak that looked incredibly real, even mimicking the pink center of a traditional steak. The texture was spot on too. Overall, it was a really interesting experience at Vulture—great ambiance, attentive service, tasty food, and a fresh new concept. Rating: Food: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Follow me on insta @theeatingengineer for good restaurant suggestion in San diego!

Google
Absolutely amazing vegan food in a beautiful atmosphere. This is my new favorite vegan spot in San Diego!! They have a steak that tastes incredible. Never had anything like it before. The menu is amazing and everything was delicious!

Google
date night with the husband was a hit at vulture. we had an early dinner - 5:45 so it wasn’t too busy, and the service was very attentive and friendly. our favorite dish was the Rockefeller, but we also enjoyed everything else we had. The table side Caesar was vinegar heavy but still delicious and made fresh. The Diane was incredible - note it just comes alone with no sides, like a traditional steakhouse. We had the chef special which was a stuffed pasta.

Google
San Diego’s New Heavyweight (That Just Happens to Be Vegan) VULTURE isn’t just another vegan spot. It’s a full-blown experience. And honestly? It’s coming for the crown. We kicked things off with a trio of apps that set the tone right away. The Parker House rolls were soft, warm, and straight-up addictive. The pâté was creamy, earthy, just the right amount of rich. But the crab cake, made with hearts of palm, stole the show. It somehow nailed that classic crab cake texture and flavor without any actual crab. If no one told you, you’d never guess. For mains, the Chef’s special pasta hit every note. Vibrant, rich, and fully satisfying. Then there’s the Diane. An 8oz lion’s mane mushroom grown locally just for the restaurant. They treat it like a steak, and it shows. Charred, meaty, savory. It's kind of mind-blowing, actually. Dessert? Baked Alaska, baby. Torch-blazed at the table, dramatic as hell, but still light and not over-the-top sweet. It was the perfect finish. Service was sharp and friendly without hovering. The kitchen was locked in all night. And the vibe? Sleek, a little moody, full of personality. Big shoutout to the 80s soundtrack. It wasn’t just background noise. It helped set the whole scene. VULTURE is proof that vegan food doesn’t need a qualifier. It’s just damn good. Chef Pancho and the team are doing something special here. You can taste it. San Diego, heads up. VULTURE isn’t just on the map. It’s leading.

Google
Great vegan fine dining! We loved the tableside ceasar. The dressing was made from scratch and very good. We liked temperature caviar service, very unique. We also had the crab cake and the parker house rolls. Highly recommend them both. We can't wait to come back and try more of the entrees. We had the chefs social pasta which was excellent. They have inventive craft cocktails and mocktails as well. The Baked Alaska for dessert exceeded expectations I suggest you go to Dreamboat afterward for a Mai Tai and a Malt. It is a fun way to end the evening. We were impressed by the service. Very professional and a fine dining vibe. We enjoyed the decor and look of the bar. We will be back and highly reccomend this restaurant for vegan and non vegans alike!

Google
Wanted to try a bit of everything since they just opened. Entirely vegan menu! Our favorites apps were the Crab Cakes and Rockefeller. Most popular entree amongst our group was the Oscar. Despite being opening night, service felt very organized and our waitresses were all incredibly knowledgable. We definitely will be back!

Yelp
Behind the diner Dreamboat, there is a gorgeous speakeasy tucked away where once you step inside you can really feel how grandiose it feels. From the attentive service to the personalized plates, this place put a lot of thought into the ambiance and overall experience. Admittedly, I was skeptical whether I would like this place because I am not usually a fan of vegan food. However, Vulture proved me wrong! I came specifically for happy hour and I tried the fries, caesar salad, and the wood-fired lion's mane "steak" with choice of sauce (chimichurri, peppercorn, or butter sauce). The mushroom steak really looked like steak and almost mimicked the texture of meat pretty close. The butter sauce really let the wood-fired flavors come through which I enjoyed. Salad also had a nice tang almost like a real Caesar! The fries had shaved "cheese" on top that made it extra umami. Drinks were stiff and delicious. The vibes were AMAZING!!! It really is a spacious, beautifully decorated space that transports you to a luxurious experience. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
It's an experience. It's like kindred and mothership. It's an event it's an occasion. It's a little intense. It's not a date night spot it's an anniversary or celebratory spot. Inside is dark and dreary. It's not romantic it's like The Matrix. It's cool but there could be an agent somewhere. The food here is really nice. I would not get the steak stand ins but stick to what's specifically vegetarian. Our Caesar was made at the table and was so respectful and delicious. Nice density, nice sauce. We don't drink much so couldn't speak to those but grab a milkshake for dessert your way out. They aren't at all thick and fake like jack and the box, but not runny like milk. The consistency is perfect and the taste is sweet but not sugary. Check this place out when / if you want to. It's mature and pretty cool.

Yelp
Amazing food, service, and ambience. This place is a true vegan fine-dining experience. My husband and I sampled a variety of dishes, and each one impressed. The table-side Caesar's salad was delicious, and watching it being prepared was a memorable fun touch. Every course was wonderful, but the highlight for me was the Baked Alaskan. I've only had this dessert once before--on our honeymoon cruise more than 29 years ago--so it felt special to experience a vegan version. It did not disappoint and was well worth the indulgence. We were able to share the Baked Alaska with family, and even took the leftovers home to extend the treat. A standout evening all around. If you're exploring vegan fine dining, this is a must-visit. We'll definitely be back to try more and relive the same magic.

Yelp
The ambience of this restaurant is pretty amazing. I would have never expected a restaurant in the back of what you enter. I don't remember the names of all the foods that we ordered but for a vegan restaurant it was okayyyyy. It was actually my first time eating at a vegan restaurant. The service was good - our server that we had was attentive at first, but it felt like we had to constantly ask for a server check in instead of them doing it themselves. But the manager started helping us, which was amazing. The seating of this restaurant is kind of weird! We were seated in front of this booth that could fit maybe about four maybe five people. Basically we were in a booth for two people, and it looked directly into the other people's booth. No sort of privacy at all. It was just really weird seating! 2/5 stars. But other than that, the vibes were cool. The presentation of the food was amazing. However, the food itself was too salty, also the citrus they used in the "pate" was overwhelming. I want to return to sit at the bar and try their drinks.

Yelp
Came here for an anniversary dinner. Waiting in dreamboat was so cute. I wanted to stay there a bit longer. Had a mini cocktail and it was perfect to start the night. We did end up waiting well past our reservation and the system was a little confusing. Food was phenomenal! Started with the crab cakes (my fave), Parker rolls and the Caesar. The rolls couldn't be skipped. Had the bolognese as my main and it was GREAT. Husband had the "steak" which he enjoyed. Star of the show was the banana foster! Cocktails were fab and the service was a little slow but allowed time for enjoyment of the food. As a life long vegetarian- worth the stop

Yelp
Decided to try Vulture, a speakeasy restaurant by the same people that own Kindred. I checked in while my date parked the car. And found the front business, Dreamboat, to be charming and the server there was very kind, offering a glass of water while I waited. As we entered the dining room I loved the decor! Beautifully wallpapered floral ceiling and large busts lined the walls. Our server greeted us and we looked over the vegan menu. We chose a few hors d'oeuvers, the crab cakes, tartare made from beets served with tapioca chips and the pate - blend of garlic and date Mostarda. The pate and crab cakes were my favorites. We also ordered cocktails to go along with the hors d'ooeuvers, Whiskey Smash and Gimlet. Both were done right. Service was okay. I think she was a little awkward, but perhaps it's because it's relatively new, opening just 2 months ago. We asked for a minute to finalize our order and she didn't come back for a while. Then she packed up our leftovers but didn't bring it until we asked for it. Hopefully, things get better. I'd love to return to try more of the menu.

Yelp
Been looking forward to Vulture's opening for months -- so glad we now have a 100% vegan fine-dining restaurant in San Diego. We tried a variety of dishes (French onion soup!) and everything was executed to perfection. In addition, our server was great! Bravo! Can't wait for our next visit!

Yelp
Vegan restaurant! Say yes. What a cool experience. Newly opened maybe 2 months ago. This is a restaurant behind/connected to Dreamboat. It's a whole concept and we loved it. Gorgeous design and intimate. We had a large portion of the menu and I have to say all home runs! From the Caesar's salad where capers stand in for anchovies to the seaweed caviar that is pretty darn good! The owner introduced himself. Great guy who is passionate about food and high levels of customer service. He also opened Mothership and Kindred. This is a new gem for the neighborhood. Go here. You will thank yourself.

Yelp
I walk past this spot multiple times a week and I was so excited to see a plant based "nicer" spot opening nearby. However, I came on a Friday night at 10:30 and nearly everything went wrong. Food 2/5, service 1/5, ambiance 3.8/5, drinks 1/5. Food: we got the piccata, French onion soup, and broccolini with hollandaise. Out of the three, the soul was the best -- it was oniony and savory and the bread/cheese topping was yummy. However, the. Broccoli tasted like an over-salted, air-fried mess and the piccata tasted like a hunk of tofurkey smothered in a lightly seasoned sauce. The portions were also TINY. Drinks: I got one glass of orange wine and I swear it was watered down. Really not worth $13 for a meager pour. Ambiance: cute, vaguely historic, felt a little tooo "Great Gatsby" for the current times we are in and the music didn't fit the vibe but overall a cute place. Service: I ordered an appetizer as my main and my partner ordered an entire. Server didn't ask us about timing preferences and my soup came out 15 minutes before my partners meal. Also, we waited about 30 minutes for food to arrive after ordering. Our server came over to (1) take our orders, (2) bring check, and (3) collect the check. I felt like a burden and not really wanted it that makes sense. Just not great vibes. Ok and now for the kicker ---- a roqxh crawled across the ground in front of our table while we were eating and we tried to kill it but it scurried under the wall. We told our server and she said "thanks for letting us know we will keep an eye out." Idk, honestly just save your money.

Yelp
My friends & I came here for a birthday dinner & had a great time! Enter through Dreamboat. I think they would definitely benefit from having the hostess stand somewhere else because it was super crowded. & maybe a clear sign to wait before entering because people just kept on going in whenever the hostess stepped away. Vegan dishes & desserts. Sister company of Kindred. The restaurant was beautiful, dimly lit & romantic. Service was excellent, friendly & attentive. We shared several dishes & desserts which were delicious & a few cocktails which were tasty. I will say, the dishes are pretty pricey for what you get. Our server surprised the birthday boy with a candle & dessert on the house, thank you! Make sure to make a reservation because it was pretty packed when we went on a Thursday night.

Yelp
Went for my birthday dinner at 5pm on a Saturday. You walk into the dreamboat diner to the back were a little hostess table is. We ordered a martini, daisy cocktail, Rockefeller app, table side ceaser, Bolognese, broccolini, potatos, and carrot cake. The drinks were very well done, strong but didn't taste of just alcohol. The Rockefeller app is such a cute way to serve essentially artichoke dip, and the "ice" is edible too. The table side ceaser was tasty, but definitely vinegar forward with a slight spice. If you didn't tell me the Bolognese was vegan, I wouldn't have known., very well done. The brocolini was probably my least favorite, just nothing special. The potatoes were very crispy and I loved the dipping sauce. The carrot cake had a chai flavor, my husband said it was his favorite. Since it was my birthday, the staff was very sweet and gave us complementary champagne, brownie dessert and a polorid photo! It honestly was a great date night and well worth the babysitter

Yelp
I had first heard about Vulture Restaurant in North Park from my cousin, who is a vegan. She is always on the look-out for a good new vegan restaurant. In fact, Lisa and her beau (and soon-to-be-husband) dined at Vulture Restaurant the very first night it opened. The host, who was pleasant, seated me at a banquette towards the back of the restaurant immediately. The waiter was Lily, and she was kind and efficient. I also witnessed Emily, who was working at other tables , who handled her tasks very well. One of the assistants was named "Alex", and she was very kind. I like Vegan food that celebrates plaints, rather than attempts to "impersonate" and "mimic" meat and fish. The best dish on the menu that celebrates plants with out the artificiality of attempting to masquerade as something else was the cassoulet. There is a nice selection of Mocktails.

Yelp
Wow! This is an instance where five stars doesn't feel like enough ( it also makes other five star rated restaurants pale in comparison). The retro ambiance coupled with the immaculate attention to detail makes walking through the curtains to the dining space feel like being immersed in a surreal, David Lynch film. Did I mention the entire menu is vegan, everything is meticulously prepared, and there is an extensive selection of wine and cocktails? Everything I ordered with family was absolutely delicious. The decadent, rich flavors, along with the ambiance makes Vulture feel like the ideal place for a date night. I was planning on eating at Dreamboat with my family, but didn't realize they stopped serving lunch at 3pm. Regardless, my children enjoyed everything we ordered. The service was impeccable. It truly felt like being transported back to in time to a place I've only ever imagined via mid-century media.

Yelp
From the same owners as Kindred in South Park, a pair of plant-based eateries opened last month in the University Heights neighborhood. Vulture and Dreamboat share the space with the latter being the front of the joint business as a micro-diner with ten seats. The former is a mid-century inspired fine dining bar and restaurant. The ambiance was dark and elegant with a resemblance to some of the concepts that the Consortium Holdings (CH) group has produced over the last several years. Reservations on OpenTable are recommended. I was fortunate to nab a spot at the end of the bar as a walk-in customer. The menu booklet featured four pages of which three were dedicated to drinks as in cocktails, martinis, mocktails, and wines. For the plant-based food, there were hors d'oeuvres, soups, salads, sides and entrees. After hearing the couple to my right order the Crab Cake as an appetizer, I decided to do the same. I also picked the Bolognese from the list of entrees. The Crab Cake came as two pieces resting on top of a bed of tartar sauce. It really did look like two crab cakes with veggies and lemon oil dressed on top. The texture of the cakes was smooth. The Bolognese consisted of pappardelle noodles with a mushroom and walnut ragu topped with fresh herbs. The wide pasta was fresh and one of the best versions I have tasted even compared to many local Italian restaurants. The ragu wasn't overly salty, but it was still savory. A little bit more on the plate for the $24 price would have been perfect. The tag team of bartenders that took care of me did a great job. For vegan food, what I tried was solid. Yes, it was a tad pricey, but I didn't find it outrageous versus upscale non-vegan spots around town. I enjoyed my dining experience at Vulture to give it a four star rating.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my best friends birthday. We were welcomed with a champagne glass for everyone at our table. Our waitress was attentive and frequently checked on us to provide drink refills. If you are looking for vegan dining with a an elegant ambiance this is the place to be. Lighting was dim, seating was beautiful and cozy. The dessert menu was absolutely adorable! My entree was chefs special of the day.

Yelp
Our new favorite date night restaurant. Vibe is chill. Noise level perfect. 80's music perfectly curated. We've enjoyed everything we've ordered, so far. Have to get the bread no matter what...delicious! Prices are good (for now, at least).

Yelp
Ohhhkay wait a minute ... Kindred crew you did a thing! I've always been a fan of Kindred for their cocktails, the vibes and food so when a friend and I heard about Vulture ... SAY LESS. We made that reso so quick. Vulture feels like you're going into a speakeasy crossing through time. You enter through this cute micro-diner called Dreamboat then once you walk through these velvety curtains, you step into a moody vintage glam space. Already the vibes are giving. Our server was THE best. She had answers for all our questions, broke down each dish and even had the perfect suggestions for alcohol pairing. If only we weren't so hyperfocused on the menu, we would have caught her name! The food ... I'm no vegan but I can be after today. Crab cakes featuring hearts of palm, caviar featuring kelp, pate featuring an assortment of mushrooms turned into a mousse (yes, you heard me!), a bolognese featuring walnuts and a divine fig miso carrot cake. We sure did order all the things ... we listen, we don't judge. All AMAZING. I am the queen of crab cakes (the "real kind") and these hearts of palm sure had me fooled. Grab a reso soon while it's still the soft opening before it gets crazy! It's not regrettable.

Yelp
Harsh vegan critic here...Vulture is hands down the best sit-down Vegan restaurant in the COUNTRY. The only other I've had that comes close is a fancy vegan restaurant in NYC. Vulture blows Crossroads (famous LA vegan restaurant) and many others out of the water. Everything was delish. The ambience is amazing, not surprised as all their restaurants never lack in terms of design. We had the most amazing spread, we ordered about 6 items to try. All of them were great. My favorite was the Wedge salad and the French onion soup. Also their mini-drinks are brilliant!! We don't really drink, so being able to order a "tiny" version was so fun! The staff were also lovely. They make table side caesar salads, and bananas foster! So fun to watch. Highly recommend making a reservation & giving them a try.

Yelp
Came a few weeks ago to celebrate my besties bday and omg I'm in love!! We had the best time! The ambiance is everything. It is so romantic and intimate. It's dim but not so dim you can't see things so amazing! Furniture is beautiful and every other aspect is great. The menu is nice and thick with a good variety as well. Obviously this is pricey so it's not somewhere I will just randomly come. But the presentation and taste is all there. This has easily become my favorite vegan restaurant. I'm gonna have to tell my man to bring me back hehe. Everything we got was beautiful and taste great. I'd order everything again! It's hidden inside the new ice cream shot dreamboat so you enter from there!

Yelp
Made a resy for 2 at opening time and waited to check in at the back of Dreamboat diner. Parking in the neighborhood is challenging so plan ahead! Inside the ambiance and decor is lovely. The service was attentive and welcoming. Loved the aesthetic, no complaints on service. Food wise - reminder everything is vegan. My favorites were the pasta (chefs special pasta) with a broth and had sage. Portion was on the smaller size but the taste and flavor was on point. The hash brown potato was also pretty solid and sizeable for a side dish. We ordered two drinks (wine and a mocktail), the cocktail meatballs with apricot sauce and the broccolini side. Meatballs came in a cute mini le cruset but the sauce was too sweet for us. The broccolini with the hollandaise sauce was average. Prices are on the higher end but we were pretty full. Cool spot to check out if you're looking for something different.

Yelp
Checked out this new vegan hot spot for a birthday! The service was fantastic! Everyone was so pleasant. There wasn't a moment where our water cups were empty, they were really on top of it! The table side Caesar salad was a fun experience and the person making it for us was so friendly and made a funny fork joke! I enjoyed the dark and moody ambiance! The wallpaper was fun. It's decorated very nicely. The food was really good! We enjoyed everything we got! I wasn't a fan of the butter that came with the bread (reminded me of Jägermeister weirdly) but the bread itself was yummy! The Caesar salad was good and a little spicy! The French onion soup was delicious and my favorite item! It wasn't very soupy but I think that was because it was filled with bread and overall was not disappointed it was really delicious and flavorful! For entree we tried their pasta special for the day which was tortellini with lions mane (mushroom) inside! The entree portions are very small but we were full from everything else we were eating so it was fine. Not pictured or even tried by myself was the "Diane" my friend tried it and apparently was so good he didn't want to share so I don't know personally but if I return I'm going to try to that! We were celebrating a birthday and they gave us a complimentary small brownie dessert (like the photo I posted but smaller and with sprinkles and a candle) we also had ordered the brownie dessert separately and it was all delicious!

Yelp
This is really a 3.5 star review with great potential to turn it into a 5 if they adjust quickly. We had a party of three last night for dinner with server Amanda ($375). Overall, the experience was very good and we are glad we came. Amanda was very friendly. Some suggestions though (and realize you just opened).... We wanted to start with champagne; after we ordered it, Amanda came back a bit later and said there was none. This is a featured starter to the night that she had talked up. Bummer. We settled for the cava...it was fine, but would have preferred the champagne. How do you run out of champagne on your opening week when you push this spotlight menu item? (She said the order didn't come in, but I feel that information should have been in her prehistoric meeting so they could have told us right away versus hyping it up). We also ordered the tableside Caesar, but a while later we were told there was no more table service that night but they could make it for us in the back. After Amanda said this, we continued to notice table service for several others. This was VERY disappointing for us and made us feel like we were not as important as other guests. When the bill came, we were also charged $4 more with no explanation. If the price for the salad is meant to be for two AND we didn't even get the tableside service, which should be a big component of the price (labor), why would you charge a split plate fee to bring us the two salads from the back?? Then, we wanted to order the baked Alaska and you'd run out of that, also. Frustrating again. The Caesar having the vinegrette dressing was misleading...not a fan. This should be a nondairy cream based or it is no where near a caesar, vegan or not. I didn't eat my half. The tartar was just ok, would be great with more jalapeños or complex flavor. The Parker rolls, hashbowns, chef's special pasta, and lion's mane steak were all great. The space is a very cool atmosphere and vibe. We liked the majority of the food, even though we are not vegan (and didn't realize until we were there). However, being repeatedly told you're out of something without any accommodations and charging us more for the lack of full service on the salad was very off-putting. They need to have more of a management presence on the floor making sure all is going well and to notice these things as they are just opening. We will wait a few months before giving them one more try.

Yelp
I made reservations for 10 PM on a Saturday evening through OpenTable. They do charge for no-shows or late cancellations, but honestly, reservations weren't really necessary. There were plenty of open seats. The setup is nice with different seating options like loveseats or standard tables. The location can be a little tricky to find. It has a speakeasy vibe where you walk into Dreamboat and then head to the back of the restaurant to get there. Once inside, the place is absolutely adorable. It's such a cute spot. I didn't try the food since it's fully vegan, and I've never been a fan of vegan cuisine, so I didn't want my review to feel biased. The cocktail menu, however, was impressive - organized by liquor type, which I appreciated. I ordered The Godfather, and it was smooth and delicious. Our waitress was phenomenal, checking in on us multiple times without being overbearing. Overall, it had great vibes and made for a fun place to grab drinks. Definitely a super cute spot.

The food was bad. Really, really bad. You will pay top dollar and leave hungry. But the decor and drinks and service were nice.

Yelp
First off, my group went the first night it was open for reservations. Every person we encountered was extremely friendly and eager to help. The ambiance is incredible, it is definitely worth a visit! We started with the Tiny Bubbles, which was fun for a start. Our group then had an Old Fashioned, Gibson Martini, and Martini with Brine. All three were very tasty and very nicely served! I ordered The Works with a classic martini, and as fun as it was, I don't think the additional accoutrements and pave were worth the up-charge. For food, we ordered the Pate, French Onion Soup, Tableside Caesar for 2, Wood Grilled Fennel Salad, Piccata, and Cassoulet. The absolute highlight was the Pate. I will be going back just for this. The flavors were incredible. The soup was also a stand out, with a super flavorful broth and tons of onions and cheese. The entrees and Caesar were very good and tasted great, but I wouldn't go out of my way for them. For us, the Fennel Salad was the skippable plate that we picked. The pieces of fennel were just a bit too tough and too large for our taste. We ended with a glass of Port, an Irish Coffee, and the New York Cheesecake. The cheesecake is really great, and a fun for vegans that don't usually get to have that option! All in all, a wonderful evening and meal. We'll definitely go back and are eager to try some other options. If you order one thing, get that Pate!

Yelp
Made reservations for a Friday night, and the restaurant was somewhat packed when we were seated. We had a nice table in the middle of the dining area, which was lovely. The ambiance was great--perfect for a romantic dinner or a cute night out catching up with friends. Service started off strong but went downhill when we realized we had been waiting almost an hour for the rest of our food. We ordered two drinks, the caviar service, Rockefeller, pâté, and French onion soup to start. Everything arrived except the French onion soup. When the appetizers came out, we also placed an order for the Diane and two sides--that's when the nearly hour-long wait began. Overall, the food was just okay--not really worth the price. To make things worse, we were charged for the French onion soup, which never arrived. This is a cute place to try once, but in our experience, the service and the food-to-price ratio didn't quite measure up.

Yelp
I'm afraid this is a "one and done" for us. Making a reservation on Open Table was easy, and we were able to get a table day of. We're big fans of Mothership where, when it first opened, getting a table was practically impossible for their first year or so of being open. So, that was the first clue. The overall service was very bizarre, to the point that we were giving a friend play-by-play texts of the weirdness we were experiencing via text. One of the things that stood out was that someone that was NOT our server came by and asked if we would like absinthe on the lemon with our artichoke/sunchoke dish. We had no idea what she was talking about, and didn't know if we heard right, so we said no. Our friend sent us a video of her same dish lit on fire from said absinthe, It would have been better if we'd have been told this was some light-up experience and what it meant. We'd have said yes. Our server was very "off" during the whole meal. I can only guess WHY and don't want to put in writing my suspicions, but she did all sorts of weird movements. For example she laid the dessert menu in front of us and did this odd wrist turning thing after placing them down that seemed to last forever. When she returned and we said "no thank you" to dessert, she laid her head to the side like a chihuahua or other dogs do when you make a funny sound. But again, this was for an extended period that was just awkward. I had specific questions about items on the menu, and she seemed to entertain my first question, but after that it was awkward to the point that I felt like I was irritating her while she just stared deeply at me. Her descriptions of the dishes did not match what we expected that came out. But, not having questions answered was the culprit there. The lions mane dish was delicious, the rest "meh". The ambiance is beautiful and I'll wait for them to be around quite a bit longer before deciding if I'd ever come back. Hopefully your experience will be better than mine.

Yelp
Beautiful spot with speakeasy vibes, hiding behind dream boat. Walking in here feels like being transported to a different place & era. Service is excellent, I was recommend the Baked Alaska dessert. This dessert was an experience of its own, as the waiter came to our table and torched the marshmallow frosting right in front of us. Overall, Vulture is a beautiful spot offering a unique dining experience, I'd recommend it to those seeking excellent service and drinks/dinner.

Yelp
Very cool experience here! I typically don't eat vegan food and was pleasantly surprised with how good everything was! We had a reservation but had to wait a little for the table to be ready, while waiting we took a seat in the lounge for a drink. There were a lot of cool drinks on the menu! We shared a few apps, and got the table side ceasar which is a must!!! Soo good. My friend got the "steak" while I got the bolognese. Everything we got worked really well! Definitely recommend the caviar and the oysters Rockefeller. The soup was insane as well! I'm definitely glad I got to try and highly recommend checking out especially if you enjoy vegan food!

Yelp
I've been a fan of this restaurant group and after having liked kindred, mothership (seeing as they're bringing the vegan fine dine bar culture that the Anixi group in NYC is leading) I was genuinely excited for this place. But the execution falls so flat, it's disappointing. We made reservations gia OpenTable and there was a cue/waiting just to see the host for the reservation. It's located in Uni land so the Parking situation already is a nightmare, then you gotta look for the entrance of dreamboat dinner (daytime brunch/ diner spot) and then wait in the line for check in. It's pretty spacious inside, many tables. Once seated, we waited around 15-20 mins for a server. There were other wait and serving staff walking around but the main wait staff that takes orders and checks in were not stopping by our table at all. So we just requested a wait staff member to get us a server and she kindly offered to take our order instead. The main server just stopped by perhaps twice when we were all set but not once when we actually wanted to add items or request something. Being affiliated with two amazing bars, you'd expect a pretty good cocktail offering but it's lackluster. Then their drinks, are unbalanced extremely spirit forward but in taste, so they're off-putting. One of them straight up tasted like turpentine. We tried 2-3 and had maybe 2-3 sips of ea. Couldn't finish any. And they're LA priced. So I would not recommend it as a bar/drink spot.

Yelp
Tucked-away treasure in University Heights. Vulure is hidden behind Dreamboat, and once you find it, you're in for a treat. We walked in on a Friday night and were lucky to be able to get seats at the bar. Once we were in we were lucky enough to be helped by Lucas, who made the entire experience exceptional. We're pretty tough critics when it comes to cocktail bars, and Lucas absolutely impressed us. Every drink was thoughtfully crafted, balanced, and totally unique. We were also so impressed by the bottle selection behind the bar--especially their amaro collection. The buyers clearly know what they're doing, and it shows in both the spirits and the cocktails. But seriously, if Lucas is working, he's your guy. Vulure easily stands out as one of our favorite cocktail spots in San Diego. 100% would go back.

Yelp
A very disappointing experience - the best thing we ordered was the pate. The Caesar salad was what you would expect out of a salad - nothing special. The bolognese was overly salty and inedible. The piccata was a near miss. Overall the experience left a lot to be desired for the price. Will not be recommending this to friends or coming back.

Yelp
What a delightful experience! An absolutely gorgeous and meticulously designed space with a beautifully curated menu to pair - no notes! The service was outstanding! We were so well taken care of by the manager Kenny and our server Lily. The non-alcoholic beverages were such a nice treat to accompany such delicious food! I will dream of those meatballs for the rest of my life! A perfect spot for a romantic date night tucked away in a fun neighborhood! 10/10

Yelp
Came here for my anniversary and all I can say is wow! They are so detailed oriented and gave my partner and I an anniversary card signed by ALL of the staff. It was super special, we got a champagne toast on the house. Everyone that came to assist us wished us a "happy Anniversary" I loved it ! Also the music and ambiance is very fun but keeping it classy.

Yelp
I had the pleasure to experience the new unique fine dining restaurant behind @dreamboatdiner called @vulturerestaurant offering vegan continental cuisine & proudly serving a refined cocktail oasis in rich culture. The ambience is a techno time warp boasting in high ceilings, robust statues & elegance of transformation I am very much proud of to adorn, something restaurants are missing nowadays--one of the most beautifully designed restaurants here in San Diego. I started off the night with a Martini- Poet's Dream, strong yet puckered in lemon sugar & the classic sherly temple While each dish we ordered was served at the highest quality-delectable & flavorful in each rotation with tableside service of CAESAR salad & CHERRiES JUBILE. Also a taste of-- * Caviar service * Cocktail meatballs * Crab cakes * Broccolini * & The Oscar (4oz New Beyond Steak) chefs kiss.... Highly recommend & already hungry for our next outing. Make sure you come dressed to impress

Yelp
This was a nice spot. I was in San Diego for a work trip and so I was alone and could not make reservations online for 1 so I showed up and luckily got bar seating. The food was quite good! I only got one dish but I wish I could have come with friends or something to get a few dishes to try! I wasn't drinking so I didn't try any of their cocktails but they looked good. The ambience is dark/romantic so a nice place for a date but could also be good with a group of friends! An older couple needed a flashlight to see the menu so just a heads up!

Yelp
Took my vegetarian friend here and it was a great night out. Entering the diner set the tone to be transported to a different time/space. I loved the ambiance and atmosphere. My favorite part of the meal was the pate. I would return and bring everyone I know.

Yelp
This will be our go-to restaurant for fine dining! I'm already looking forward to returning for special occasions and bringing friends along to share the experience. There is thoughtfulness in every detail -- from the specific stemware selected for each beverage to the beautiful linen napkins and charming plates adorned with little "vultures." The atmosphere is truly exquisite: rich wallpaper, classical busts, plush velvet seating, subtle and pleasant aromas, a professionally dressed waitstaff, and a perfectly curated playlist that set the mood just right. As for the food and drinks -- they were everything you would expect from fine dining and then some! We started with a glass of "bubbles," which instantly set a celebratory and elegant tone. I had the Chef's Special Pasta, and it was hands down the most flavorful, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth pasta I've ever had. My husband ordered the Diane, a lion's mane mushroom steak, and it was a culinary masterpiece. The texture, presentation, and flavor were all on par with -- or even better than -- the finest prime rib we've ever had, but without the heaviness or guilt. For dessert, we indulged in a Grasshopper and a Baked Alaska -- pure decadence! The Baked Alaska was theatrically toasted tableside and topped with a cherry wrapped in gold -- an unforgettable touch. We can't wait for our next visit. This place is a gem!

Yelp
Really cute inside but pre-made drinks that didn't taste great especially for the price.

Yelp
We had such a great experience at Vulture during their opening week. It's the newest spot from the team behind Mothership and Bar Kindred, and they've absolutely nailed it again. The tiny bubbles were a whimsical and fun start. We also loved the crab cake, the table-side Caesar salad, and the baked Alaska. For opening week, everything ran so smoothly. The team was incredibly friendly and attentive. Love a San Diego Local business and can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Vulture is not just a restaurant, it is an experience. The feel and ambiance of the restaurant is so special, I would come back just for that alone. We came here for our anniversary & couldn't have been happier. They had a happy anniversary card with everyone's signatures waiting for us on the table. They then brought us a mini celebratory drink and then offered to take a Polaroid photo of us. We got there early to try out the happy hour menu and absolutely loved the parker house rolls and crab cakes. I'm not a mushroom person but my husband absolutely loved the steak sampler lions mane. We also got the Baked Alaskan that was delicious and huge! We could have easily split it with 6 people. We will be back!

Yelp
We came here by accident and were so pleased with the food and the ambiance. Honestly, we didn't even know it was a vegan restaurant until we were ready to order dessert ... I know, I know! The two of us shared a couple of appetizers and an entree along with a dessert. Don't recall exactly what we ordered but everything was delicious. Their cocktails were pretty tasty as well. All in all, we'll probably be back to try some of the other items on the menu.

Yelp
Went here the first week of reservations, have been to mothership in the past and loved it so I was excited to try. Transparently, the food was as good as I would have hoped (I am not vegan, so maybe a vegan might have a different opinion) you can really taste the nut in the bolognese which just didn't taste like bolognese at all. I will say my main criticism is that I wish they just focused on making vegan dishes that incorporated naturally vegan things vs trying to imitate meat and dairy. Ambiance and drinks were great, would totally come back for just cocktails and desert

Yelp
The good: cool interior ambience / decoration and great, attentive service. The bad: food for the price you are paying. Vegetarian pasta should not be market price, and 5 ricotta artichoke tortellinis should not be $28. Those simple ingredients should not warrant market pricing. The drinks were also not to my liking. But the place was really popular with a lot of friends meeting up for couples on a date night. I tried the place once out of curiosity but have no desire to return.

Yelp
This was a unique dining experience. The room is very visually busy and it makes you look around. Each time you do, different things pop out at you. The food and service were excellent. I had and recommend the Lion 's Mane Mushroom Steak entree. Unique and flavorful. Eat here.

Yelp
Our experience at Vulture was outstanding, with friendly, knowledgeable staff and a retro ambiance that incorporated a beautiful, intelligent modern aesthetic. The food was exceptional, creatively reimagined old school offerings made with complex and fresh ingredients - a truly impressive culinary experience. A fun treat for the senses is the entryway through Dreamboat diner to arrive @Vulture -we loved the unique multiverse experience. We will definitely return to share with friends.

Yelp
Ambiance was cool! Food unfortunately, was not. We paid just over $100 for dinner (for 2) and honestly, it was so bad, we didn't even finish our plates. And I'm NOT a picky eater We got the picatta + Diane. Appetizer was the Rockefeller. I'm very bummed I spent $100 for food that I left on the plate.

Yelp
I seen this place being in under construction since I live on the area. And I saw that they opened up so I wanted to check it out. I literally had just told myself "We finally have something nice" and we can go to have a drink that's walkable. Went in there, sat in the cocktail area/ bar area were they just serve hors d'oeuvres which we were fine with since we didn't have a reservation. The host was really nice and accommodating . We literally waited about 10 to 15 minutes. No one greeted us. They weren't that busy. The people sitting next to us were getting taken care of while we were just sitting there waiting. So we decided to go elsewhere. I was really bummed out, I was really excited to check it out.

Yelp
Came in for my boyfriend's birthday on a Friday evening. Had a reservation, so seating was quick. Service was 5/5 - staff was amazing! I brought my bf here since he's a vegetarian so I thought this place would be perfect. Food was not good at all. We got the bolognese which was like a 2/5. Very very bland. The Diane "steak" was so nasty. If you want to pay $31 for a "steak" that is basically just mushrooms shaped into a steak with sauce on top - then go for it. But paying $31 for mushrooms is absolutely ridiculous! Especially since there's no sides included. We also got the patè for appetizer and the texture was gross. I will not be coming back here.
