9 Best Brunch Restaurants in Savannah, Georgia | Eater Carolinas

"With spacious patios and a sun-lit dining room and bar, this coastal Italian-inspired restaurant from husband-and-wife team, chef James Ciminillo and Alicia Farrell, recently opened near Forsyth Park. Opened on weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the kitchen serves comforting bowls of mafaldine pasta in Sunday gravy, pork osso bucco, and beans and greens. Save room for desserts, like the tiramisu topped with chopped Whopper candy — a nod to the owners’ former ties to Pennsylvania, home to Hershey’s chocolate." - Colleen McNally Arnett

Newest Restaurants to Check Out in Savannah, Georgia | Eater Carolinas

"Veratina has expanded to dinner service after receiving its liquor license. Hearty standouts include the chicken parm sandwich, arancini, and Savannah’s most underutilized pasta shapes, such as cavatelli, agnolotti, and mafaldine — all made in-house. The two alfresco areas, albeit small, are delightful options to savor specialty cocktails such as the Mr. Meletti (bourbon, Meletti amaro, and fig and vanilla shrub)." - Kiki Dy

Our server, Emily guided us through the menu and wine list with ease. She was amazing! The homemade pasta dish my boyfriend had was a bologanese type of sauce. It was a special for the evening. It had a homemade red sauce with some type of crispy pancetta or other meat. I had the house made risotto and added grilled chicken! The chicken was so tender and risotto, creamy and delicious. We tried two special wines on the menu. The red was our favorite and similar to a tempernillo. Our tiramisu is the best I've tried in Savannah. The ambiance for our date night was perfect! Sitting down where we could see the chefs create such amazing cuisine, really highlighted our experience. Thank you to all who made our night so special. We can't wait to return and try brunch.

I wanted it to be good, especially at the price point and because we were celebrating a special occasion. But that want was lost on me as was the fact that we were even celebrating something. I made a reservation online for the 4 of us, and it asks the usual questions: time, date, party size, celebrating anything etc. As I went through I made sure to make note that we were celebrating my partners birthday. We arrived a few minutes early to a very loud front entry way and a host that seemed a bit frazzled. She greeted us asked the name and then asked another person to seat us (neither of them mentioned or said happy birthday) They were busy, but there were open tables further into the restaurant space. We were taken to a table right in the walkway and seated without the table being set for service. They kind of slid the plates under the menus that they had placed before. The table was awful and right near the bathroom and in the path of the prep kitchen. People kept walking by with containers of food back and forth past us. And the host had on these clogs, and as she walked by the table you felt every step. She walked so hard and constantly back and forth it was hard to concentrate on conversation or enjoy the space. Our server arrived with trainee in tow and told us the specials and got us drinks (no mention of the occasion). When she came back she got our order; and we told her that we were fine for the food to come as it was ready. BIG MISTAKE. Our salads came out in weird increments and the timing of the rest of the meal was off. The risotto was ridiculously salty. Like it had sat and reduced in the steam table before being reheated and more Parmesan added. The garnish was refrigerator cold and made for an odd flavor and temperature combination. My partner order the rigatoni, and at $26 it doesn’t come with a protein. He originally wanted the chicken parm and when he was told it dint come with pasta, again $26, he settled for the rigatoni. Both couples ordered a different pizza and the crust was crisp on the edges and dripping wet in the middle. Again, I was excited about going and had really high expectations for the price point. With no appetizers, and my partner having one cocktail we spent $65 a person with tip. No one mentioned the occasion that was listed in the reservation, I even added an extra note that had his name listed. The loud atmosphere and constant parade of kitchen staff and the host stomping back and forth made it a less than pleasant experience. Definitely a one and done and will not recommend. The only reason they got 2 stars out of me is because the service was decent.

This place is simply outstanding-10 stars for the delicious food, outstanding service and chef. My friend and I had dinner and everything from the appetizer, dinner and dessert was so amazing. I have been in Savannah, 2 years and wished they had an authentic restaurant like I had in my hometown ( NYC). I have to say the food was on the same level as little Italy in New York City. I will return not just because the food was outstanding but coupled it with fantastic service just simply wow. I just love the restaurant, it was simply perfect. See you soon for my next meal💜🙏🏼

Google
I had an excellent meal at Veratina. The arancini with pepperoni sauce are not to be missed. The strozzapretti was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and just the right size. The apple crumble for dessert was perfect in every way. Phillip provided outstanding service and made wonderful recommendations. I can’t recommend this place enough.

We visited this spot last month during a weekend trip to Savannah. We were told upon arrival that we had to leave by a certain time since there was another reservation… which was odd because we had a reservation as well. Not sure if they told other guests the same thing, but this interaction did make us feel slightly unwelcome. On a side note, the food was pretty good - I would definitely recommend the shrimp scampi. Our server was kind and very knowledgeable.

*PSA for vegans in savannah* delish, very sweet staff, so accommodating when they were obviously very busy. my boyfriend and I came here because their menu said they do vegan alterations. I got the normal rigatoni and he got the vegan one - both were so good. we got the vegan potato and spec pizza which had the best vegan cheese I’ve ever had (my vegan boyfriend is making fun of me; “yea the only vegan cheese you’ve had”). we came back the next day for a second pizza. 10/10 🫶🏻

We came to this hidden little gem this past Saturday night and it was such a pleasant experience. We had reservations at 5 and were seated immediately. The beauty of the inside of this place is hard to describe and you must see it for yourself. There are places for the small group to couples with indoor and outdoor seating. Bar seating is available and they a couple of high tops that face the kitchen so you can watch them prepare the food. I had a Bellini to start the meal and we ordered the Shrimp Scampi - it was so good. The shrimp were huge and very fresh and the sauce was out of this world. We both ordered Caesar Salads, but upon receiving them my husband and I realized that we could have split one as they were huge. Covered in fresh Parmesan and Pan Fritto with the perfect amount of dressing with 6 minute eggs on the side. My husband ordered the Mushroom Pizza and it was covered from side to side with mushrooms and was very good. I ordered the Bucatini with Vodka Sauce and the homemade pasta was some of the best ever. The sauce was creamy and very good. I ended my meal with a Cosmopolitan. We will recommend this place to anyone looking for an upscale Italian place with homemade pasta, sauces, etc. for a "date night" or any special night.

Everything about our experience here was amazing. From the moment we walked in, the service, atmosphere, and food were just incredible. Don’t skip out on the tiramisu!

Yelp
We hosted our son's wedding rehearsal dinner at Veratina and I can't say enough about what an absolutely perfect experience it was..and no, I am not related! I am a foodie who appreciates very good food and outstanding service and they exceeded our expectations. We visited Savannah back in February and weren't able to agree on a venue for the rehearsal dinner. We had gotten a referral for Veratina from a server at another restaurant and he told us it was his go to spot for high end, authentic Italian cooking. We spoke with Alicia (front of house) and James (chef) and they were extremely friendly and accommodating. We spoke about possible menu items as well as specialty cocktails and agreed we would create the menu closer to the date so Chef James would have a better idea what he'd be working with for ingredients and menu items as well as cocktails. We shared some ideas and explained we'd prefer many options and "family style" and WOW they did not disappoint!! Everything from the charcuterie board, apps, salads, mains and sides was cooked to order and delivered piping hot to each table. And they created a specialty cocktail to appease my taste for anything blood orange!! The Fusili was fresh and homemade. The Bronzino medallions were delish and boneless which was appreciated. The rigatoni was also fresh and the sauces and accompanying proteins were perfectly paired to their dishes. Chef also surprised us and made a huge porhetta that was a huge hit! Alicia checked in with us several times and she and her staff could not have been more accommodating. Every course was perfectly timed and the servers explained what each dish was. This dinner and the folks at Veratina exceeded our expectations and the high bar we had set which made it a perfect night. We received so many compliments and praise for what Alicia and Chef James did. If you're a foodie or someone who enjoys great food, superior service, and a fantastic value then go!! We heard it's been a tough reservation because news of such places travels quickly...so get on those phones and have yourselves a meal and a glass of wine. (Or "Death by Orange" cocktail/spritzer!) These folks are no strangers to the restaurant business and we hear they are opening a second place soon! I would travel back to Savannah just to try their new spot! Yes we were that impressed with them, from soup to nuts as the saying goes!! Thanks again to James, Alicia, and all your staff!

Yelp
The best way to describe this restaurant? Absolutely mouthwatering! From the moment you walk in, the space feels small, cozy, and intimate -- the kind of spot that makes you feel instantly at home. Since I was dining solo, I grabbed a seat at the kitchen bar (yes, it's exactly what it sounds like -- a bar that looks right into the kitchen). Watching the chefs handcraft pizza and pasta just a few feet away was such a treat. I ordered a glass of wine and took it all in as they stretched dough and plated dishes. For dinner, I went with the saffron spaghetti, and it was nothing short of amazing. The pasta came straight from the kitchen to me at the bar, and every bite was packed with flavor. To top it off, I watched them prepare a blueberry cobbler right in front of me -- and of course, I couldn't resist. One bite, and I was completely sold.

Yelp
PROS --Excellent service from the knowledgeable and friendly bartender while seated for our meal at the end of the bar. --We split a caesar salad, plus the night's pizza special, and the night's pasta special. All were outstanding. Flavorful without being too salty. CONS --We also ordered a side dish of the broccolini. The florets and sauce were fine. Delicious in fact. But broccolini stems accounted for well over half of the portion. Normally that would be fine... if the stems were properly prepared. They were not. Instead they were woody, undercooked and inedible (without a heroic round of olympic-level chewing with each bite). A rookie mistake that shouldn't happen at this level of cuisine. We ate what we could and pushed the rest of the dish away. Bartender: "Are you finished with this?" Us: "Um yes, we're not cows". --We did not specify how to "course" the meal. Instead we let the kitchen decide what dishes to send out, in what order, and at what pace. We did specifically ask that everything please NOT be sent out at one time. And yet, sure enough, the entire order was placed in front of us at one time. As a result, we had to sprint through the entire meal, eating the hot items first before they cooled, leaving the salad for last. Would that have been done to a couple seated at a table? Nope. Did we pay less for our meal being seated at the bar? Nope.

Yelp
My wife and I were in Savannah for the weekend and had dinner at Veratina on a hot Friday night in July. We arrived a little early for our reservation and headed to the bar in the back to wait. We met a delightful bartender (Alex?) who hooked us up with a couple of glasses of Chianti. The restaurant was quite busy as we surveyed the other guests while waiting. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. My eye caught the pizza-making station and made our dinner selection easy once seated. The hostess seated us at the first table right by the main door. Other guests hovered around our table while they were waiting to be seated, which was not ideal. Also, the noise level in this front dining room was deafening compared to the bar area. If you can get seated towards the back or if the dew point is not in the 70s, even outside, all the better. We couldn't carry on a conversation seated across from one another. We ordered a wedge salad to split as a starter and a Margherita pizza that wasn't on the menu. The wedge salad arrived already split but swimming in dressing. It was a huge portion and delicious, apart from the excessive dressing. When we asked our server about the disproportionate amount of dressing, he said, "Yeah, I noticed that." Why not replate it then with less dressing? The pizza came out shortly thereafter. It looked and tasted delicious. Their crust was not your typical pizza crust, but in a good way. We were not sure what made the crust unusually delicious. Was it honey? We thoroughly enjoyed our pie and found it the perfect size for two. Overall, our meal was enjoyable. We should have just stayed at the bar in the back, though, and had our dinner there.

Yelp
Greeted by the owner and invited to walk around and look. Staff was well dressed in jeans and cream colored shirts; casual and well done. Menu had a few well done items including chicken, steak, pastas, and pizza cooked in a brick fired oven. Appetizers were fantastic and salads were wonderful. Good drinks and fine selection of wine went well with our dinner. We'll return when in town. Sophia our server was very good.

Yelp
Savannah doesn't deserve a place like Veratina...the freshness, flavor layering and creativity are above and beyond.

Yelp
Immaculate vibe and outstanding service from start to finish. The Arancini was fried to perfection, with a pepperoni sauce that was truly one of a kind. I had the malfadine with pancetta and "gravy" -- absolutely unreal. We also tried the 'nduja pizza and the flavors were incredible -- the touch of honey was perfect. The potatoes were the best seasoned I've ever had anywhere. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Lovely crisp clean modern Italian. Perfect sized, delicious pastas & beautiful pizza. Front room is a little loud.

Yelp
Oh my, what a thrill to be the first to introduce this new south historic district Italian restaurant. Their stellar upgrades/renovations since taking over the former establishment include an open kitchen, brick pizza oven, enclosed porches, lovely yet small outdoor deck. Currently they are only open for lunch, but once they have their liquor license they'll open for dinner service. Fresh, crisp and creative is my take of their Wedge Salad. The layers of fresh greens, parsley, tomato, prosciutto with Gorgonzola crumbles will keep me coming back for more! Hubs Cavatelli with Italian sausage, garlic, broccolini was decadent and my next order! We will return!!

Yelp
This place is definitely worth the trip. We stumbled onto it and the food was amazing. The bartenders were so welcoming and friendly. We sat at the bar since we didn't have reservations and it was nice. The bartenders gave a number of special touches. The only oddity was the vanilla candles that were burning that cover the aroma of the food.

Yelp
This restaurant has it all, quality, quantity, fast, great service and good ambiance.

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch on way through Savanna. Some of the best Strozzapreti and Shrimp Scampi I have ever had. Crispy potatoes were great. The cocktails were wonderful as well. Service and ambiance were delightful. Will be back next time we are in the area!

Yelp
This was our second visit to Veratina. Our first visit was ok, but not great, so we decided to give it another try. First, I should say that the service was great and we really enjoyed our waitress. The food, however, was not so great. The highlight of the meal was the waitress and the appetizer. We had the focaccia bread with three spreads, all of which were excellent. For the main entree, I had the Delmonico Steak. The steak tasted ok, but was mostly fat and gristle. Only about 10% of it was edible. I also had the Community Coffee cocktail. It was $15 and one of the best cocktails that I have ever tasted. The downside is that it is served in a small glass with one HUGE ice cube in it, so you only get about a shot of liquor. I ordered a second one and requested no ice cube...I got the same amount of liquor in the same glass, but no ice ...just a small amount of liquor in the bottom of a normal cocktail glass. It was delicious, but definitely not worth $15 for the miniscule amount of liquor that you receive. The waitress was obviously embarrassed by the tiny drink, and apologized for it. My wife had a shrimp dish similar to ravioli. It was horrible, (sorry, no other word to describe it). The shrimp was clearly not fresh and the fishy taste was so bad that we couldn't eat it (and we are seafood fans). There is really no excuse for serving bad shrimp that isn't fresh here in Savannah...fresh shrimp is literally available everywhere here. At the end of the meal we left the waitress a nice tip, and decided not to return. The only exception would be for the focaccia bread and a glass of wine.

Yelp
Always exciting to get a new Italian restaurant!! We attended for a date night and arrived right at 5 pm. They open for dinner at 5 so we sat immediately. Drinks were good, very different from a traditional cocktail menu with mostly Italian liquors, but they do have a full bar. Food wise, The Arancini was cooked perfect and the sauce was delicious. Both our pastas were a bit al dente, but fresh. The mushrooms in the agnolotti were cooked perfect and the sauce was earthy and hearty. The pancetta in the cavatelli was also delicious. We chalked the al dente pasta up to our meals being some of the first dishes out of the kitchen that night, and yet the flavors were still wonderful. I wanted so badly to try the tiramisu but man, I was full!! I also want to come back for lunch - they have what looks to be some delectable sandwiches on their menu. Stop in and give them a try!
google avatar

Yelp
Dropped by for their lunch yesterday and I'm definitely going to be going back. This place is amazing and their food is even better than that. They have counter service for lunch and just started doing regular dinner service within the last few weeks. It is Italian based cuisine and their chef has nailed it. The space is clean, well decorated and their plates are vintage and classy. Got their Chicken Parm sandwich and the portion size was perfect but it was the flavor that took it over the edge. Would say it was probably the most flavorful red sauce with their chicken i have ever had!!! They have wine and beer sales now but only did their iced tea. The servers are pleasant and attentive to everyone's needs.

Yelp
This is a cute new little addition to the restaurant scene in Savannah. Italian is by far of my favorite cuisine so I was very excited to try this restaurant. Currently they're only open for lunch 11-4 while they work on their expanded dinner menu. Even with this soft opening, the restaurant was completely full at lunchtime. Ordering right now is counter service and they do have a seasonal special menu. The appetizers were by far the best thing that we ordered. The sauce with the arancini was quite literally licked up. However, I am picky about my pasta, and everyone at the table agreed that these dishes were a little bit too al dente. Maybe the owners are trying to go for a more authentic Italian pasta feel, which in its true nature is served al dente most of the time. But the edges of the ravioli were quite literally hard to chew. It almost felt like they hadn't been cooked long enough and were rushed to get out to the table. The tiramisu is the only dessert on the menu, with a light cream. However, the lady fingers only tasted differently of espresso and were dry. Looking forward to the dinner opening as they continue to make minor adjustments to the food and menu!

Yelp
What an amazing hidden gem in Savannah. I myself am a private chef and this place truly WOWED me in every way: the food was absolutely some of the best around and our Server Philip was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and a pleasure to be around. Our first course was the Arancini & the Shrimp Scampi. Both of them I will order again. Best Arancini in Savannah! The Homemade Focaccia that came with Shrimp was perfect for dipping in scampi sauce our Second Course we spilt a Caesar salad that I was surprised even that was the best I've had in this area and we had the N'duja pizza yum!!! Our finale course we had the Delmonico Steak with crispy Potatoes & the Agnolotti with Broccolini on the side. All WOW!!!!! So excited to have this place on my list of go to date night places. -Chef Katie Elzey

Yelp
The Cesar salad was probably the best I've ever had. The vodka rigatoni was very very good. Angolotti was to die for. For dessert, we got the blueberry cobbler. It was good but was mostly just blueberries with hardly any topping. Bartender Emily was exceptional and very personable.
google avatar

Reggie M.

Yelp
This place is definitely in my rotation strong. I truly believe customer service sets the tone for places and they get an A+. Being I'm a Cesar salad connoisseur I have to make room for it every time. I've been in this building before but they have definitely got that place together it's more open and bright.

Livia D.

Yelp
One of our new favorites in Savannah. Caesar salad was delicious, and the risotto was yummy and comforting. Very cute establishment, and service was spot on.

Yelp
Veratina is a hidden gem. The food was to die for, the vibe is quiet and cozy. The staff was courteous, attentive, and fast. We spent the weekend exploring restaurants in Savannah and this was by far the BEST. And when I say that, I'm saying best of the best. We went Olde Pink House, Elizabeth on 37th, The Public, Collins Quarter, and a few others. Veratina was the only 10/10 on our list. Best app: aracino balls Best drink: community coffee (tastes like a pistachio latte) Best entree: pasta w/ Sunday sauce

Yelp
So glad a friend recommended this restaurant. It is off the beaten path but very easy to find. The food was very good and they had unusual cocktails.

Rob D.

Yelp
Chefs offerings are amazing. I had a Delmonico steak that was prepared to perfection. They have a garlic shrimp scampi as an appetizer that is a do not miss. I recommend the back patio for warm dry evenings with one you love.

Carline P.

Yelp
We were there for our 45th anniversary dinner and the waitresses could not have been better!!! It was a superb meal with a fantastic dessert!!!!

Yelp
Best chicken parm sandwich! Just Yummy! The shrimp appetizer was also 5 stars! Nice folks, great food! It's a keeper!

Christine K.

Yelp
Perfection! We've been for dinner twice and brunch twice. Amazing food and exceptional service every time. Best bronzino I've ever tasted. My husband and friends raved about the pizza and pasta and focaccia. We can't wait to go back. If you are craving upscale Italian food in a comfortable setting with excellent friendly service, you have to try Veratina. Our new Sav favorite.

Michele M.

Yelp
The owners and their interior design team has great taste in decor. This is a modern looking and comfortable space to eat and drink. We have been to Veratina twice. The focaccia excellent. The arancini crisp, very flavorful and not greasy. The house made pasta w/ Sunday Gravy was devine. It was better than my Nonno's version. I am sure he is watching me from heaven and telling me his was always the best. We also ordered the house made Spring Pea Agnolotti. Delicate, flavorful and delicious. The second visit was for pizza at the bar. We are pizza snobs having lived in New York. Jim, the pizza dough you make is righteous. The finished product exceeded both our expectations. The staff is knowledgable about the wine and food menu and attentive without being intrusive. Each staff member appears to love what they are doing! We will be regulars.

Emily V.

Yelp
Overall everything was just OK. We had an 8:30 reservation, and our order was taken about an hour into sitting. I was excited their menu said gluten free options (online and in person), so I asked what they had and they gave me an allergy menu. My options were limited to the things that were already gluten free- the salads and chicken. No pasta or pizza options. I never mind if a restaurant does not have gluten free options- I can stick to a salad anytime! But I felt very misled that they advertised gluten free options, especially when that's why we chose to go. I ordered the chicken since my options were that or salad. The food came out an hour later, and at this point the rest of the staff was cleaning up and leaving. Our group agreed that the experience was OK but we wouldn't go back. Our waitress was very nice, but we were there for nearly 2.5 hours, and the food was fine, but not worth it for the price (The chicken was $36). The atmosphere was, again, fine- but not anything we would come back for. Hoping these kinks will be worked out in the future.

Michele K.

Yelp
Wonderful food, drinks, service and company. And didn't break the bank! We will be back.

Megan H.

Yelp
We have heard so many good things from the food to service of this new restaurant. They did an incredible job remodeling. The ambiance is amazing. We sat at the bar tonight with Billy and Loni. We were greeted by Alicia, the owner, when we walked in and were seated at the bar (which we love). Her husband James is the chef and I would say they are the dynamic duo. We will be back!

Tc Y.

Yelp
Great new Italian restaurant in the historic district. Well put together, nice menu, good service and a little loud. We'll be back.

Diane M.

Yelp
Everything was amazing- from the decor, atmosphere, food and drink. My second time dining here and it has become my favorite resturant in Savannah.

Yelp
First impression; an excellent Italian addition to the Savannah restaurant experience. Hopefully they will add a few traditional primi pasta option such as cacio pepe, carbonara, alla gricia

Mitzi A.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We shared a pizza and a pasta dish and both were wonderful. We sat at the area overlooking the kitchen, and Jim (the pizza chef) was a joy to interact with. Not only did he provide details and recommendations on the menu, but he also gave us great tips for our first visit to Savannah. We will very likely go again before leaving the city.

Tom P.

Yelp
Smaller quaint place off the beaten track. Family owned family chef and very clean. The Sunday sauce, chicken parm and the Cannoli' is outstanding! We are pleased we found this place... it's a must!!!!

Jim M.

Yelp
Not prone to proclaiming greatness but Veratina was great. Exceptional, imaginative, fresh and fun. Service perfect and actually very reasonably priced. BravoVeratina!

Grant K.

Yelp
Food=chicken parmigiana sandwich was awesome. Wedge salad amazing too. Service and ambience great too.
