Best Barked Brisket in Buffalo. The Flat Iron Steak and pickled onions were a close second. I used every bit of the what I believed to be brioche bread. It was the perfect vehicle to shovel the meat. I will go back even though the price for the amount you get was making you think. Great relaxed atmosphere. The 2 man band was enjoyable and wasn’t too loud. A nice experience.

Great food! Though you’re definitely paying for it. I drove about 2.5 hours to come here and I don’t regret trying it. Definitely want to be here early if you come on a Saturday. I arrived 20 minutes early and there was already a line forming. When I left about 45 minutes after they opened the line was down the block. They could probably stand to have more than 1 person cutting the meat for trays as it is quite slow. I got my food and the person I was with didn’t come outside to sit down for another 5+ minutes. I got the trinity platter with a Texas Twinkie. Ribs - Perfectly cooked. Easily came off the bone, but didn’t fall off so they were easy to eat. BBQ sauce and smoke flavor were good and blended perfectly. Sausage - I got the spicy sausage that is cheese filled. It was mid and I wasn’t a big fan of it. The sweet sausage is not cheese filled and while I still wasn’t a huge fan of it, it was better. I wish I could’ve substituted this one for something else, but subs weren’t allowed. Brisket - I went with the fatty option because I normally have liked the fattier pieces. I found myself wishing I’d gone with the leaner option to get more meat out of it. Flavor was good, but the fat was a bit much for me, and I’ll normally eat beef or pork fat without issue. Biriyani - This was something I was really excited for, but while I did finish it I would say it’s one of the worst I’ve had. The rice was undercooked and the flavor didn’t do it for me. The person I was with also wasn’t a big fan of it either. Cornbread - I’m torn on this one. I loved the cardamom flavor and the texture was fantastic. It didn’t really taste like cornbread though and I found I preferred it as an after meal dessert option instead of eating it during. I would’ve preferred a more traditional tasting cornbread for my meal with the cardamom cornbread as a dessert after. Texas Twinkie - Delicious. Recently had to pay 14 dollars for 3 small Texas twinkies that didn’t compare to this one. I’d recommend it, though it was spicier than they claimed and I preferred that. It’s big enough that’s it’s not a bad app to split between two people too. Milk Bread - I love milk bread and this is no exception, but it didn’t really pair with the food the way a nice piece of white bread would’ve. It goes great with the desserts though. I was dipping it in my banana pudding and it was a delicious combo. Banana pudding - Nothing to write home about. Something of a bog-standard banana pudding, but banana pudding is delicious in general so it’s hard to fail. The lack of nilla wafers was my biggest complaint. I think they had some crushed and sprinkled, but I prefer the whole wafers getting softened in the pudding. Sauces - All good, but I think I preferred the non-spicy one the most. I never fully wrapped my head around the yellow one being curry flavored and not mustard flavored. Would’ve loved to have a mustard flavored sauce to go with my meal. Especially for the sausage.

We went an hour before closing to place a takeout order and had a great experience. The food was incredible, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was on point. We ordered three types of meat: chicken, beef, and sausage. We also ordered coleslaw, mac and cheese, biryani rice, coconut curry sauce, and BBQ sauce. The quality and flavor of everything were fantastic. The meats were fresh. The sides were great as well. The sauces tasted amazing. I definitely prefer the coconut curry one. The only thing I probably wouldn't reorder is the mac and cheese. It was just okay. The service was great. The people preparing our tray were welcoming and friendly. We did order a fourth side, but it seemed they forgot to make it for us. We realized this after we returned home with the food. Other than that, we were very satisfied with the service. The price of everything was actually cheaper than what we were predicting as well. Although we didn't dine in, we could tell the vibes of the space were good. We didn't plan to dine in due to the insane amount of people that usually come visit the restaurant. Overall, a near flawless experience in my opinion. Highly recommend anybody who wants to enjoy good food.

Google
We've been wanting to try this place since we heard it was a james beard semifinalist and I will say that it did not disappoint. All the meats were smoked to perfection and the Asian twist to the spices was inspired. The sides were exceptional and especially liked the brisket beans and the cornbread. Even though there was a long line we made it through pretty quickly and there were plenty of seats available. we will definitely be back. The banana pudding was also a great way to end the meal.

Finally after months of much anticipation my wife and I finally went here for dinner. The hype is real. Best BbQ I’ve ever had. We didn’t know about getting in line to order the food directly from the cutting/serving station. After that was figured out and inquiring with the manager on some recommendations. We were cooking with smoke lol. We ordered the Barbacurry beef, turkey, flat iron, sausage for the meats. All were PHENOMENAL turkey surprised me the most. Sooo juicy. The barbacurry had some heat which was great. The sausage was cheesy and delicious. The flat iron was better than brisket that I’ve had elsewhere. Next time I’ll this brisket. We got 4 sides; the rice, the slaw, the shells & cheese and the cornbread. Cornbread stole the show holy how and the butter they use is amazing. The rice was great. Slaw was a vinegar based also tasty. The shells cheese with some jalapeño was tasty. I got the banana bread pudding for desert. First time I’ve had banana bread pudding. Why have I gone 44 years with never trying it before. Loved it. I wish I came sooner to southern junction. We will be back. The food tastes sooo fresh. Juicy. Delicious !!! Thank you sooo much for a fantastic meal/experience

Texas Taste, Southern Style As a partial owner of a BBQ catering business, former Austin resident, and someone who’s visited many of the most iconic Texas BBQ spots, I came in with high expectations—and Southern Junction absolutely delivered. We tried the turkey, brisket (you can choose lean or fatty), pulled pork, the phenomenal Brisket Bimini, mac and cheese, cornbread, and roasted cauliflower. Everything was memorable, balanced in flavor, and expertly smoked. The cauliflower and cornbread in particular stood out—unexpected hits! The ambiance is exactly what you want from a true Tex-ish BBQ joint. As you walk in, you’re greeted with the smell of real blue smoke from the pits and the sound of country music echoing down the painted alleyway. It sets the tone perfectly. You have two options for ordering: the slice-to-order line or table service in the bar area. We chose the latter and found the wait time about the same. Pick what fits your group best. Seating is plentiful both indoors and out. The backyard has a laid-back, casual vibe complete with cornhole—great for groups, families, or a relaxed afternoon hang. The staff was friendly and helpful, rounding out a 5/5 experience. I highly recommend this place whether you’re local, just passing through, or on a BBQ pilgrimage.

Google
As native Texans, my family and I can be a little picky with Texas BBQ but pitmaster Fernandez absolutely nailed it! Everything was amazing but we really loved the ribs, sausage and yes, turkey. Even without the Indian fusion (which is amazing) the BBQ is top notch. The staff were super friendly and helpful and I want to give a big shout out to the manager for the extra samples. Will be back with the Texas gang real soon. Did I mention the Shiner on tap…

Google
Fantastic first experience here for brunch. We got two foldies (pastrami and kielbasa), masala potatoes, and a biscuit. All of the sauces were delicious as well. Very flavorful and not too spicy. Great patio space and music. We will have to come back to try the cinnamon roll. Looking forward to trying the dinner menu sometime!

Yelp
The food was great. The atmosphere was great. We drove in from Rochester just for dinner, we were able to get seated at the bar right away. we tried the ribs, brisket, and chicken. With a side of the slaw and a side of the cauliflower and our favorite, which was the baked bean and brisket side. It was delicious, and the bread was great to dip in all the sauces, including the curry barbecue sauce! also extra points to the chef who went the extra mile in regards to our parties nut allergy. Highly recommend this gem in buffalo, it's out of its league in terms of western NY food scene.

Yelp
I had the Trio platter with ribs brisket and sausage. The Brisket was definitely was the star of the show. My wife loved her smoked Turkey. Our friend had the Dip Dip Chicken and the curry beef. He loved everything. My only criticism was my entries were Luke warm. We sat in the bar and the service was excellent. The bar area is great with the old bar and old brick walls.

Yelp
We shared 2 doubles; Meats- brisket, turkey, pulled pork, and 2 types of smoked hot links Sides- mac and cheese, cornbread, rice and brisket The service was great, and the interior and exterior ambiances were comfortable. We waited in line to order food for about 20 min. The individual at the counter was very nice, they gave great recommendations (which we followed), and they gave us a sample of one of the hot links. I have no food critiques. All of the meats were smoked to perfection, the bbq sauces are regular bbq sauce, and are not needed. The meats are great on their own. I was pleasantly surprised by the smoked sausage. I don't normally like sausage but I really enjoyed the hot links. The buffalo blue hot link with blue cheese and mozzarella was top-tier. I also typically favor mac and cheese, and theirs was good, but the rice and brisket side was better. The *coriander cornbread* is the best cornbread I have ever had at a restaurant. Get the cornbread. Its sweet and the coriander pulls it together. I don't say these praises lightly and I will be back.

Yelp
Simply put there's nothing like Southern Junction in BBQ world and that's what makes it so special. Ryan's approach applying cooking techniques from India to Texas style barbecue means flavors that are more pronounced than what you're used to and personally, I find it enhances the traditional. This is most evident with the brisket beans, cardamom cornbread, brisket biryani and the chicken bbq where Indian spices and cooking styles are applied to traditional bbq sides. If nothing else, you need to try the cardamom cornbread and chicken bbq. This is one those restaurants/business you won't know you needed until you got it and I'm excited to see how it grows!

Yelp
This place is definitely a hidden gem! The food was great, as well as the service, and I would highly recommend if you're looking for a different take on BBQ food! For the meal, I got the two meats platter with ribs and pulled pork with Mac and cheese and the brisket biriyani as my sides, with the addition of corn bread. I also got the mild BBQ sauce and the coconut curry sauce for my two sauces that came with the meal. Also if you don't know, this is BBQ food with Indian fusion flavors. Starting with the meat, both were very good but I really enjoyed the pulled pork. It was very moist and paired perfectly with the sauces. For the sides, the Mac and cheese was delicious as well as the cornbread, but the star of the show was definitely the brisket biriyani! It was so flavorful and different, and I very highly recommend it, it was probably my favorite part of the meal! Overall, this place was great! My only complaint was that it was absolutely freezing in there! By the end of the meal we were dying just to go outside because of how cold it was. However, the food is amazing and really unique and I highly recommend if you're looking for some good food.

Yelp
Having lived in Texas for 10 years and adoring Indian food, I absolutely loved it!! What a great fusion of flavors and textures. I went for brunch with friends and I cannot wait to go on a non-Sunday for the regular menu!

Yelp
So disappointed! We waited patiently in line to order for about 1/2 hour, but it really wasn't worth it. The people from whom we ordered were pleasant enough, one was even enthusiastic, but the food was so-so, the dishes and flatware were all disposable, the seating was crowded and so noisy we could barely have a conversation. We ordered the texas trinity: ribs, brisket and sausage. The ribs were the most flavorful of the 3 meats, but very fatty so not much meat. The sausage was supposed to be stuffed with blue cheese, but we could neither see it nor taste it. The chammandhi slaw was the best part of the meal.

Yelp
After months of anticipation, finally made it out on a rainy Friday, and we weren't disappointed! My wife and I shared a plate that included ribs, pulled pork, brisket and sausage. For sides we picked cornbread and Mac&cheese. For us, the standouts were the ribs and cornbread. Everything was good though, and the staff helped us to make the right picks. Looking forward to going back to try more of the menu!

Yelp
Came early (5pm) during the week with a group of friends and it was packed. So packed that the line formed out the door and stayed that way for our entire visit. Although there's seating inside, it wasn't enough. So unless you plan to get there at opening, it's a strong possibility you will not be able to get a table. The food was great. I enjoyed the brisket plate which came with two sides as well as a slice of white bread, sauce and pickled veggies. There's also a bar as well as outdoor seating. I'd love to come back in the summer!
google avatar

Yelp
This was the first time here and holy cow! Easiest 5 star review ever! They had an amazing selection of different smoked meats and sides. I found it super interesting that they take some of the spice profile of Indian dishes which made the food experience that much more impressive and incredible! We did have to wait in line to get our food, but it was totally worth it! The butchers and staff were so friendly! My absolute favorite thing tonight was the corn bread! The cardamom notes with the honey butter on top sends your tastebuds to a new dimensions! 10/10 will have to go again! They also have a very cute little back area with seating with a very nice atmosphere, but it is a a bit cramped. Overall it was a pleasant experience and I look forward to going back!

Yelp
Came for an event that had appetizer sized meal but I definitely would come back for the whole menu. Very flavorful and different not just average BBQ. The venue is small inside but don't let that scare you off. Apparently there is outdoor seating but I didn't see it and they also serve brunch, which the menu looked just as amazing. Bartender is super friendly and knowledgeable. Also is a dog lover so that was a plus. All in all it's great to see something different a a great area!

Yelp
One of the best meals I've had in a while. Cute place with a patio. The long line is worth it & moves pretty fast. The staff was super nice. Everything was tender & well seasoned. Cardamom cornbread??? All the flavor combinations are delicious & I love the concept. I'm recommending this place to everyone that's a big meat eater like me.

Yelp
When I say this might be one of the best BBQs I have ever had, I am not over-exaggerating. I have had a lot of BBQ in my short life so far and this is right up there with the best. But before we talk about the food, we have to talk about the spot itself and the service. The people working here are phenomenal. They're so friendly, and very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. They really make this whole experience so great. The decor, layout, and seating areas here are well designed and make it a comfortable spot for a nice dinner date or just a casual meal. Now on to the food. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender and had such a good flavor. The unique blend of the sides and different ingredients really make this a different kind of great BBQ. Everything from the main meats to the bbq sauces have a different taste that make everything compliment each other on the plate. This is one of those meals where I ate til I was stuffed and didn't even get to my dessert. I haven't had a chance to even touch the banana pudding yet but I can't wait. Based on how the meal was, I know it'll be delicious too. I will not only be back, but I'll be bringing everyone I know to try this spot out!

Yelp
This review is for the Brunch menu only. A couple of friends and I went on a Sunday morning to celebrate our birthdays. Ordering is cafeteria style, in a line. They do have a full Bar and tables inside and outside. The dining room may have table service, but I am not sure about that. We tried a lot of different things(see pics.) I had mexican corn, a pork Taco and a beef taco. Everything was so delicious and colorful. The staff is energetic and helpful. I will definitely be going back to try their dinner menu. Great addition to the area!

Yelp
This place!!! Holy cow the food is excellent and there's so much to enjoy here. The food is so so tasty and so many things to try. The chicken and turkey were excellent and they've got some interesting Indian style cooking recipes to enjoy as well. Their mac and cheese, beans, and rice are yummy too! To finish can't miss the banana pudding equally amazing! So they've got a bar and tables around and you order and then sit alacarte style. Prices were great for the amount of food provided! Can't wait to come back!

Anthony L.

Yelp
Best brisket in Buffalo! Haven't tried anything else bc I can't not order the brisket. Killer corn bread, Mac and cheese, and all of the other sides are top notch. Went the first time and loved it. Went a second time and waited an hour in line, and will do it again, no problem. The smell coming out of the restaurant would not let my wife and I walk away! Lancaster is waiting for you guys to expand! !!! Staff is awesome, you can tell they enjoy working there! Don't like giving such a glowing review bc the lines will be longer but these guys deserve it!
google avatar

Yelp
One of the most unique barbecue places I've ever been to. Food is done, traditional Texas style, which means you'll be waiting in line and they may run out of food. I assure you're the wait is worth it. The Food is traditional barbecue mixed with Indian style spices. The results are amazing. I had the brisket, which was excellent and fairly traditional. My second meet was the. Barbacurry beef, a mix of brisket and Indian spices which was amazing. I went with a group of six, and we ordered pretty much everything on the menu that day. No one had any complaints. We went on a Saturday at about 530, and it took us about an hour to get inside, but was definitely worth the wait.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Food is phenomenal. For me, the portion sizes were perfect, but I could see someone wanting more. My partner had the brisket which isn't pictured but was also cooked to perfection. Parking can be tough as it's a downtown street. No reservations. You kind of form a line and order at a counter. We opted to stay at the bar and luckily found a space. Not a lot of room. We were there on an early Friday night. Only gave it 4 stars because of the space. Probably best if you're only looking for takeout and don't want to get your hopes up for a spot.l to dine in. I do want to return and try brunch. I recommend a visit.

Alexander P.

Yelp
Top tier Tex-"ish" BBQ in Buffalo. Food is excellent, and CONSISTENT, which is the hardest thing for a BBQ restaurant to do well. Have been on multiple occasions now and it compares or exceeds multiple Texas top 50 BBQ joints in Houston.
google avatar

Greg O.

Yelp
Would do 4.5 if we could do half stars. Everything was delicious, but like so many BBQ places these days it's a little pricey. I understand bbq takes hours or in some cases close to a day to make as I do some amateur smoking myself and that labor has to be accounted for, but for the price I think an extra rib or extra half a sausage when getting the 2 meat plate would be fair.
google avatar

Yelp
Living in the city has made me feel so lucky to have easy access to delicious, unique food -- and Southern Junction is a prime example of that. Barbecue isn't my go-to cuisine of choice, but I had a craving for it this past weekend and my boyfriend suggested Southern Junction because it isn't your average barbecue joint. They pride themselves on being "Tex-ish" -- their food is Texas/Southern Indian fusion, something incredibly different, especially to this area. The ordering situation at their new location is serving line style -- hop in line and let the crew know what meats and sides you'd like. I chose their dip dip chicken with shells and cheese and smoked cauliflower. Everything was so full of flavor, the chicken especially was spiced perfectly. They throw in a piece of house made Japanese milk bread as well which serves as a nice way to break up the heat. My boyfriend got the maple glazed ribs and he loved his too. I'd definitely recommend checking Southern Junction out if you're seeking a barbecue experience that's anything but typical. Their flavors are so unique and everything is cooked beautifully. Not to mention, their staff is so kind, too. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This place is wow!!!! Great bourbon selection with many others at the bar. Came here for a tasting of food and beverage and needed to come back with an expert from the south on BBQ. This by far is the best BBQ in Buffalo. The brisket melts in your mouth. The cornbread is like no other. Everything is house made from scratch. The place has character and love the brick and staff is so wonderful. Our server and bartender are knowledgeable. Definitely bringing our friends here for an experience. Love the atmosphere here. Out of this world class A BBQ.
google avatar

Henry D.

Yelp
The food I had was all excellent. The seating situation does not work. The bar area very cramped so really not an option. I stood outside in the cold (could have invested in better outdoor heating), when you make it to the serving table most times you don't know if it's to go or to stay as seating so limited. People from bar area continually trying to save or grab a table and poorly enforced. Although I got a table it was for 4 so felt bad 2 unused seats were sitting there then felt rushed to make room for people in line. Eliminate the serving station get more tables in and hire wait staff and have reservations. Current system great for turnover and profit but not for dining experience
google avatar

Rachelle S.

Yelp
Good vibes and really nice workers, they helped us with our ordering and made suggestions. They do sell out so I recommend getting there before 630/7 maybe (idk, we went on a Friday during a warm spring evening). You will most likely have to stand in a long line, but grab a drink at the bar and chat while you wait to order. Once you order, they prepare it and give it to you right there at the counter. Delicious! Loved their foldie.
google avatar

Hana M.

Yelp
I love Southern Junction! The perfect mix of bbq and Indian flavors - such a good combo. The brunch is awesome, especially the brisket foldie. For dinner, don't skip out on the cardamom corn bread.

Tabitha C.

Yelp
Heard great things about this place and it didn't disappoint me. The brisket, ribs, mac n cheese, rice, smoked cabbage/cauliflower and cornbread I would order again! I would skip the beans and coleslaw next time. Not my favorite, but everything else made up for it. Love that there is outside space to eat!
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
Indian BBQ fusion .... Amazing!! Started as a takeout place they now have a brick and mortar with full bar, indoor & outdoor seating. Food is killer good so go hungry! Banana pudding was such a hit we almost didn't get a photo Friendly service - order at bar or back counter
google avatar

Arianna B.

Yelp
The food is fantastic, the cornbread was fought over. And I mean fought over, it was so good. Get the cornbread!!! All the staff members were inviting and kind. The ambiance was very. Texas country, the music selection was very excellent(lots of favorites played). We got an extra side, a fountain drink, two alcoholic drinks and the 2 meat platters the total was around $60. I would recommend and will be coming back.
google avatar

Rachel A.

Yelp
Very cute place with an outdoor seating area in the back. Line gets long super quick so definitely get there early. I didn't originally get a Texas Twinkie, but when I went back to add it, the line was out the door so I figured I'd eat it another time. The food was delicious. We split the two platters between three people and finished everything. Maple glazed ribs and the dip dip chicken were fantastic. The barbacurry beef was a close second. Coulda done without the Texas hot links and the pulled pork to be honest. The sampler was a great way to try everything. The brisket biryani and cauliflower Manchurian were just delicious! The cardamom cornbread was delicious and not as heavy as we thought it'd be. We'd definitely eat six of those in a sitting. The mango slaw was a bit disappointing; I think it just needed more flavor, perhaps some spice. Overall, we will definitely be coming back again and getting those platters!

Yelp
On September 24, 2022...Food and Wine published an article entitled, "The Best U.S. Barbecue Cities." After reading over the article, I immediately realized that this article seriously needs an update. Not only should Southern Junction be on their list. But SJ needs to be the featured restaurant on that list. So until Food and Wine, add SJ to their list. I can not take any list they populate seriously. SJ is the best BBQ in western NY, and that's saying a lot for the Buffalo area. This restaurant isn't offering the typical BBQ that you get from home, or any other bbq joint in the city. This bbq is smoked with Indian spices.. They call it a Texas Indian fusion, and it works beautifully. They have different meal combinations you can choose from. The portion sizes, depending on the combo you choose. Can be shared with someone, especially the two meat combo and sampler. It can be a little confusing when you first enter because, there's two different entrances. So while your ordering your food, it can be a little congested and confusing on who's in the right line or not. There's a decent size dining area and a small section to eat outside. All meals come with two sides and a piece of Japanese sweet bread Two meat combo- (3-4 bones) of ribs. The ribs are dry rubbed with a great blend of Indian spices. You do get a choice of (amazing) sauces you can add to them. But you may find yourself using the sauce for other options on your plate. Dip Dip chicken- I normally do not order or enjoy bbq chicken. Well, that was before SJ changed my mind. The spices they use as a rub, is finger licking good. The juiciness and the balanced level of smoke flavor is top notch. This chicken was even more off the chains, when you dip your chicken in the sauces provided. Brisket (chop pieces) biriyani rice- delicious.. just utterly delicious. Again the Indian rice and spices are truly amazing together Pickled veggies (onions/pickles) A wonderful addition to the entree.

Yelp
Been wanting to come here and finally made it this place is the point blank period. Everything and I mean everything was delicious from the beef brisket which tender, flavorful, had a nice charred bark on it. Ribs were spot on and they even gave pickled onions/pickles with meal. For my two sides I picked some kind of mango slaw with spicy peanuts on top and cardamom spice cornbread muffin. Now I see why this place has a high rating I will be back(Arnold Schwarzenegger) voice once I receive my next paycheck lmao! Give these folks a try

Yelp
Authentic, high-quality bbq. That smoked flavor of the meats and vegetables is like no other. Our family sampled a little bit of everything. I'm not a huge fan of meat on bones, but those ribs, WOWZERS! Lots of tasty burnt pieces and an peppery flavor that had me wanting more. The Foldie was a huge hit, and although the naan was a greasy, it was well-worth the extra calories. The barbacurry beef was a favorite of mine, you must try that coconut curry sauce. I ordered the slaw on the side and loved that they put the sauce in a condiment cup. (Whew, that slaw sauce is spicy, but pairs well with the barbeque). We also really enjoyed the ham & cheese Kolache (bun stuffed with meat and cheese); the ham was so smokey and the bread was so tender. Would love to try the cream cheese Kolache. I wish I could highlight a couple items to try, but honestly everything on the menu is tasty. Looking forward to a sit-down location; however, I was impressed with how well the food held up with travel and reheating (recommend reheating on stovetop).

Amy A.

Yelp
The long line is worth the wait. Go early ish because they do sell out of some items. The night we went they were out of brisket by the time we arrived at 6:30 and sold out of ribs by 7ish. We got the chicken, pulled pork, barbacurry, slaw, and a few sauces. The coconut curry sauce is SO good.

Yelp
WOW! Just WOW! I'm a transplant to NY, having previously lived in SC. I've been here long enough though to consider this my home. Like the owner of Southern Junction, I also come from Indian roots. I've followed Southern Junction since they started and operated from their previous location, but I've never ordered from them before. I've always thought about it, but it just never happened. We finally decided to meet family at their new location, which is great. I love to see this business grow. It is also great to see how much interest, love, and creativity the owner puts into his restaurant. I'd love to see them grow and expand. The aesthetics of this place is great, where the art work on the wall is a combination of pictures of Kerala, India (where the owner's roots are from), and Texas (where he originates from). There is a bar area, a few tables in the front, and a few tables in the back. Moreover, there is space outside, which would be a great hangout spot during the warmer months. The drinks are generous on alcohol. I ordered the brisket with a brisket biryani side, and a smoked cauliflower side. I was a HUGE fan of the brisket biryani and also the smoked cauliflower. I wish I could just get a huge bucket of the brisket biryani. Just WOW! The smoked brisket was good too. The Barbacurry beef was decent for what it was, flavorful, and great if you are looking for a pulled beef entree. Either way, all the offerings were creatively made, and simply delicious. I loved the ambiance of the place too. We are definitely coming back, especially during the warmer months.

Yelp
This is a traditional "Texas style" BBQ restaurant , You wait in line until you get to the counter where you order, the BBQ is cut fresh when you order and then you find your table either inside or in the large outdoor area. Drinks are available at the bar during your wait and there's a water cooler and chairs so the waiting is comfortable. The food is the best BBQ in Buffalo end not typical Texas where they traditionally only use a salt and pepper rub. Every side we had was perfectly delicious. And the price is more than reasonable.

Yelp
The food was incredible and the outdoor patio was so nice. Would recommend being in line early because the line can get long but it's well worth the wait! The coconut bbq sauce was definitely the best of the three sauces they offered.

Yelp
Going on a saturday night was the first mistake, this place was chaos with the line out the door. Watched people leave behind us. Good thing there were instructions posted but it still was stressful because you didn't know if once you got your food if you would have anywhere to sit, at one point we heard guys in line joking about how good thing the bathroom is big because they might have to eat in there. We finally got our food, when we ordered I said I wanted two meats (chicken and barbacurry beef) and I only got the chicken. It was too chaotic to correct them but it pretty much ruined our experience because then we only tried white meats which didn't show the true capabilities of this place. The shells and cheese were cold. The turkey was cold. The cornbread was out of this world and the pickles and rice were good. We got some cocktails too and they tasted like well liquor for $12 a piece. Maybe I'd return and order differently but honestly would probably just go to mister sizzles next time for less chaos.

Yelp
This place is such a gem. As soon as you walk in you place your order, almost cafeteria style. Your food is prepared in front of you and provided on a tray. The workers were so incredibly friendly, even remembered my one friend by name. As soon as you get your tray, you can sit in variety of places. Lots of seating inside for larger groups, they also have outside seating. They do provide a bar area in the front of the building. The food was absolutely delicious. Full of flavor and not one bland piece. You HAVE to get the cornbread. Out of this world. If you're a BBQ fan, this place is a no brainer, you have to go. I highly recommend, not just for the food, but the service as well. I just want to be friends with all of them. I already can't wait to visit again.

Yelp
Interesting and delicious merging of Indian and Texas BBQ -- a person can get bored of the same old same old BBQ no matter how well it's made, but not here! Cardamom cornbread! Margaritas with upside down pony size Coronas! Very fun and very delicious.

Yelp
Excellent food! We had the Bahn mi foldie- pretty amazing flavors... smoked pork belly, cilantro sweet glazed jalapeño and a sauce that is indescribable sweet spicy sauce on paratha that was freshly made We also tried the Texas twinkle which was like a giant jalapeño power wrapped in bacon and smoked...nuff said? It was also delicious and spicy!! There were many specials to try

Yelp
Part of me wants to say totally negative things about this joint. Just like keeping Buffalo a secret so we selfishly keep it to ourselves. Truth is; the place is phenomenal. The food is to die for. I moved home after decades of southern & southwestern living. I've been smoking Texas style brisket & Carolina pork for decades. This is one of the few places in Buffalo where I'll eat someone else's Q. I'll keep it simple at this point. Order a platter with any combination of meats. Simply mouthwatering. The sides are a great balance to the smoky meats. The cardamom cornbread is a must. It is the shining star of the Texas meets India flavor profile of the restaurant. I love the food here enough to discourage folks from coming here so I don't always have to fight for a table (sat at the bar the last 2 times. The atmosphere is totally local & the clientele is as diverse as the city of good neighbors it's located in. We ordered a platter of brisket, chicken leg quarter & ribs with the cardamom cornbread. The side sauces were a blend of sticky sweet bbq flavors & curry based sauces. The only downside to this place is the long lines. The upside is you can preorder takeout.

Yelp
Best brisket ever! Service with a smile! Great bar and awesome outdoor space with music for Sunday brunch. There will be a line at opening and they will sell out. Go early and take it all in. Meat sweats with a curry kick!

Yelp
Phenomenal food. The owner is super friendly and down to earth. BBQ is the closest in upstate to an authentic texas bbq. Loved it and will be returning many times!

Yelp
EPIC! When you have an event that needs to be epic these are the people you partner with. Hands down the best BBQ we have ever had! The order, delivery, and set up was flawless. We had a catered event for 25 people with a guest of honor that LOVES bbq. We wanted to blow their mind with memorable food. Southern Junction accomplished this and more! We are from Texas by way of Kansas. We grew up eating the best BBQ in the US so we are picky and hard to impress. Southern Junction exceeded our expectations with every dish. The ribs, turkey, and brisket were all tender. The flavor profiles were complex, unique, and delicious. The brisket beans were flavored with a subtle smoke and huge chunks of brisket. The Mac n cheese was deliciously creamy. The Manchurian cauliflower had just the right amount of heat to make it a great compliment to the meat dishes. The cardamom cornbread was off the charts good. The sliced bread provided an excellent mopping tool for the sauce as well as sandwich making. Leftovers made superb French toast the day after. As for the sauces...we highly recommend the curry sauce. It enhanced everything we put it on...and we put it on almost everything! So, if you want an exceptionally executed curry sauce, we highly recommend this. The other sauces were superb as well. The entire team at SJ was phenomenal to do business with. If you haven't tried their food, run, don't walk to SJ. You will love it! Thanks Ryan and Team!

Yelp
So worth the 20+ mile drive. BBQ is such a regional favorite throughout our country. But this place takes it to the max. The style is " Texish" which for brisket is generally, simply salt & peppered, cooked low and slow and let the quality of the beef flavor shine. Which we felt was a home run. Not over-smoked, just a perfect flavorful bark so darn tender and moist, wow! Now add their unique sides. We got 3 each with our order - both of us tried the biriyani brisket rice, and cardamom cornbread and my wife got the smoke/roasted cauliflower and I got the mango slaw. These took a good meal to a whole other level. The rice & the cornbread were awesome. I enjoyed the slaw but I have to admit I'll be getting the cauliflower next visit because it truly hit my flavor spots. The portion sizes were generous and the pickled red onions and bbq sauce were nice flavor enhancers. The packaging was solid. Now in case you haven't already read about it this isn't set up like a regular restaurant we're all used to. First, it has limited days and hours of operation. Next, the menu apparently changes regularly and in order to know what is available you need to checkout their website. You also should place your order as much ahead of time as you can as there's no servers, hosts, bar etc. While this might seem a bit unusual I truly applaud it. Look folks, if you don't already know a great bbq business is a bit harder to run than most as the cooking processes are so long. I've waited in very long (hours) lines only to find out when it's my turn they're out of this or that and usually exactly what I was waiting for. This is the best solution I've ever seen. You know what's on the menu, you pick a date and time that works for you and you'll get exactly what you want when you want it. I walked in and my food was waiting for me fresh and hot. There wasn't a dedicated dining room during our visit so we plopped down at the picnic tables and stuffed ourselves. The location is not on a main street, not in a traditional restaurant building. You'll be pulling into a generous sized parking lot that service's 2 good size brick buildings. The bbq is housed on the bottom floor of the building on the right. Enjoy!

Yelp
I would say I am baffled of how high these reviews are for this over hyped version of texas BBQ. This food taste's like the healthy soccer mom who is hosting BBQ in her lavish backyard. In the most honest review I will say my food was first lukewarm. They only give you about 2-4 ribs for a $30 meal. True BBQ never skimps on the portions nor is it served undercooked. A lot of the meals have a twist to it. Like the Baked Beans are vegan which was probably the best thing I tasted on my plate. The drink options are poor. This was my first and last visit at Southern Junction I rather eat my grandmother BBQ and save my time.

Yelp
When taking into account the gap between Southern Junction and other places with similar cuisine, this is the best restaurant in Buffalo. All of the meats are of superb quality and just as good, if not better than BBQ restaurants I've been to in Texas. The Mac and cheese and brisket beans are perfect compliments to the meat for a complete meal. Don't skip brunch, as the breakfast tacos and brisket biscuits will make you want to come back every Sunday.
