The Best New Cocktail Bars in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Two veteran LA bartenders took six years to open their dream bar in Downtown’s Historic Core. Alexander Vaughan-Ruiz and Brandon Richard took their career experience from Bestia and Wolf & Crane to debut Spring Street Bar where traditional drinks are always well made, along with stunning cocktails like the Grape Escape, shaken with Capurro Pisco, Xila Licor de Agave mezcal, grapes, lemon, and pink peppercorns." - Rebecca Roland

Spring Street Bar - Review - Downtown LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Downtown has a new bar, except it’s technically not new. After a long hiatus, Spring Street Bar is back in business, but these days, it’s less of a sports bar and more of a cocktail spot. The relatively small bar has a warm glow from Edison bulbs and pours the classics like milk punches and espresso martinis, as well as creative concoctions like the Grape Escape that reads like a pisco sour infused with pink peppercorns. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Sylvio Martins

What Happens to LA Bar Culture and Its Bartenders After COVID? - Eater LA

"Colin Baugh, who frequents Spring Street Bar in Downtown LA and whose public relations agency represents the United States Bartenders’ Guild, says, “When I walk into Spring Street and Keely’s working, I know I’ll get a smile, good conversation, and a great drink 100 percent of the time.” Baugh sees bartenders as more than sources of smiles and good drinks. He worries about their future but believes they hold a significant role in Los Angeles." - Mona Holmes

If you are in DTLA and you do not visit this bar then YOU ARE MISSING OUT! 10/10 The owner Brandon and bartender Ty are amazing! Full of personality, full of life, amazing energy. We came back to back two nights in a row. The drinks are phenomenal and you can’t beat the price. This is a bar about socializing! Don’t be on your phone, talk to people, sing, dance and just vibe. You can also bring in outside food!

Google
I’m from out of town, but have been to LA many times. The Spouse and I have been trying a lot of places over the years. With that being said….If you're in LA and looking for a hidden gem, this bar is a MUST-TRY! The drinks are not only delicious but also a work of art. Every cocktail is carefully crafted, making you feel like you're getting a taste of something special with every sip. The atmosphere is laid-back and cozy, yet trendy. Makes me want to move to LA haha I can see it being a perfect place to unwind after a long day or start your weekend off right. Personally I think the drinks are currently UNDER-PRICED in comparison to the other bars of the same caliber drinks in LA. It was nice being able have some amazing creations without breaking the bank. They even passed out some shot glass sized cocktails they were experimenting with and asked for feedback. Really felt like a place you could just hang out at and forgot about ….the other problems of today’s world. So thanks Spring St bar for the great drinks experience! Keep it up! We will be back! For sure!

Google
Spring St Bar has become my go to bar since it reopened. The new owners and staff have turned the place into a welcoming neighborhood bar where the cocktails are inventive and delicious. They can make it all and they make all of it well. Come through, have a drink and enjoy the company.

Google
Nice bar to get a cold drink while walking around DTLA! Close to Grand Central market. Enjoyed our drinks and the service was great! Definitely will be going back. Good Happy hour on a Saturday afternoon! 👌🏽

Google
This place is amazing. Very chill vibes and a lot of seating for a Sunday night. Drink in photo is Yuzu Making me Crazy and it is both sweet and spirit forward. Would definitely recommend even to those not into Gin. Come try this place!

Miguel Grana

Google
Simple modern bar with a wide selection of drinks from beers to numerous spirits and cocktails. The staff are friendly and helpful and the music playing was good. There are just a sprinkling of tables and the bar isn't massive as it's quite a small establishment, so expect to stand when it gets busy.

Rodrigo “funning”

Google
A solid downtown LA bar to visit with a great and chill vibe. Bartenders were very cool and overall the crowd was great. The drinks are nice and at a descent price. I’d definitely come back here again on another night. Parking is limited to street and Uber is suggested.

Google
As someone who has lived on Spring Street for over 20 years I can confirm that THIS is DTLA's BEST NEW BAR. The owners come with years of experience at other famous LA spots (google the Eater article on them for more) and will make you feel right at home in this perfectly renovated neighborhood classic. Drinks are affordable and meticulously prepared. I highly recommend you check Spring St. Bar out, you will NOT be dissapointed.

Yelp
I seriously cannot get enough of this bar. I was walking around trying to watch the World Series without the sports bar vibe, and I stumbled upon this place! They had the game but it wasn't intense and overstimulating. They open at 5, so I think thats why it wasn't too crowded. The vibe was so chill, and the crowd had had a mellow vibe. The drinks were amazing. I'm usually a tequila girly, but the melon drink and espresso martini had me sipping vodka. I went back again on Halloween and wow, what a night. The playlist was fire. Amazing crowd! Everyone was so friendly and the bartender recognized me! I'm looking forward to coming back again. I love how their prices are ridiculously cheaper than any other bar in LA creating high end cocktails with high end liquor. It has a neighborhood vibes and reminds me of a 2024 version of Cheers. This is my new favorite bar in LA!!

Yelp
Absolutely love what they've done with the place!! It was the perfect place for a girls night with their cute cocktails. They were so good I had little more than I anticipated hahah. That being said, I absolutely looooved, and I mean loooved "Honeydew You". "Satin Sheets" was also delicious for those that prefer a sweeter cocktail. Lastly, as someone who does not like coffee, their "Espresso Martini" was sooo freaking good. On to the staff, they were so friendly and extremely attentive! The security guard greeted us with the warmest smile ever the moment we approached the bar. Our bartender, Ty, was super attentive, even when it came to our water glasses (which I really appreciated). You can just tell these guys are really knowledgeable and love what they do Can't wait to go back and try their other cocktails, I'm obsessed

Yelp
3pz martinis.... Full rip pricing.... Cmon now.... Get some 8oz martini glasses party people....

Yelp
Never going back. The crowd is sketchy. They upcharged me on all of my drinks. $20 for cocktails in a dinky bar? I don't think so!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Spring St Bar has become my go to bar! The place is great, the drinks are excellent and the staff is wonderful. although they don't serve food, you can bring food in. The new owners definitely know what they're doing and I appreciate that the vibe they're cultivating is relaxed and not at all pretentious.
google avatar

Destiny O.

Yelp
Best Espresso Martini I've ever had! Spring street bar is definitely the cool new (& improved) kid on the block. Also discovered my new favorite drink, the White Negroni. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're looking for a new place to try. The service is also 10/10!
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Spring Street is my new favorite bar! All the cocktails taste amazing & the music sets the mood right. If it's a date night with your loved one or a girls night out, Spring Street won't disappoint. The bartenders are very friendly & always have a smile on their face.

Yelp
Great drinks, people, music, interior, and pet friendly just about to sim it up It's just the perfect neighborhood bar anyone could ask for - the right vibe, the best HH, great playlists (and volume level at diff hours), beyond solid drink options (especially for whiskey/tequila/mazcal lovers), Wed night complimentary bites - and the most authentic and fun team of friends behind the bar!
google avatar

Yelp
Under new management, this local spot has transformed into the kind of community bar every neighborhood dreams of. From the moment you walk in, it's clear that the new team has poured their heart and soul into making each guest feel welcome. Every detail reflects their genuine commitment to hospitality. This isn't just a place to grab a drink; it's a space where thoughtfulness and intentionality shine through, making each visit feel like a special experience. Here is to many more good times and cheers to Alex, Brandon, and the rest of the team!
google avatar

Navneet R.

Yelp
I love this local bar at the heart of the historic downtown district. The bartenders are top notch! You can always expect a great service and a friendly conversation. Ask for Liam: no one in LA can serve a glass of water (without ice), like he does!

Brenda M.

Yelp
Under new ownership, Spring St Bar has really upped its game. The cocktail menu is both creative and well-priced with each cocktail being a hit. They have a beautiful spirit selection with knowledgeable bartenders who are super approachable and will gladly chat. If you're looking for great drinks and vibes, definitely check it out!!

Cynthia E.

Yelp
I used to come to spring st before it closed down and I gotta say the upgrade and change of ownership was well worth the wait. The bar's new look is aesthetic and the music they play creates a perfect environment to unwind after a long week. Each person in my group has their own drink of choice and their menu was able to cater to all of us, their bartenders also seem very knowledgeable on different cocktails and can make something specific to your liking which was nice. I recommend to everyone in the area to start your night here, it will not disappoint

Yelp
my new favorite bar in DTLA! it recently went under new ownership and i must say, i definitely see the improvements in so many aspects. the cocktails are well done & the beers are very well price. Alex was my bartender and he was the sweetest. great customer service & very knowledgeable. definitely will be back. great for girls night or date night, highly recommend

Kimberly V.

Yelp
Spring Street is under new ownership and the renovation is gorgeous. The vibe is new, but the affordable drinks are still on. Interesting cocktails, local beers, and knowledgeable, friendly bartenders.

Yelp
Came here last week and got lucky on a night that Chingon was there serving CRUNCH WRAPS. Full disclosure, I am pregnant so I did not drink, but we were looking for a chill place where my husband could drink and I could eat something yummy! Biggest, most delicious crunch wraps I've ever seen. The chef came out to talk to us and they will be there Thursday - Saturday from now on. If you're looking to grab a few beers and fill up before your night out of drinking, would highly recommend. So bomb.
google avatar

Ana Liz L.

Yelp
This place was chill, showed up on a Friday night about 9pm. It was almost full but not super busy or uncomfortable. The drinks were good, not sure about the service, my husband ordered drinks and water and the bartender forgot to give him his water so he had to wait longer. The DJ plays some funky tunes mixed with some of my favorite EDM songs and old school songs. Good place to pre-party. There's outside seating so you can have conversations, I also saw a woman walk in with a dog. So it's a chill, casual place. It's near Exchange, definitely recommend to stop by.
google avatar

Dorian G.

Yelp
What's there to say, great bar, great crowd, amazing staff. Ask for Liam - the man pours the best iced water in town.
google avatar

Ashley E.

Yelp
It's one of my favorite small bars to come to when in downtown LA. Good beer selection and chill bartenders ( Davion, and Liam make some amazing drinks). Door guys are really friendly, especially Achu he's such a sweetheart, and he really does what he can to make sure everyone's safe and having a good time. The vibe is different since they changed up the staff, and tbh I'm glad they got rid of Irene... was not a fan.
google avatar

Toby M.

Yelp
Tried again with a different bartender. Ughhhhh. Just as bad as the female bartender, Ilene (?). The older gentleman will definitely not pay attention unless a. You're young and cute and possibly have drugs to share or b. You're a regular (which I thought I kind of was, oh well) The music, as well as the drinks, are totally inconsistent and not in the good way. And of course the service is inconsistent as well. Plus, you cAnt get away from smoking or vaping so you may as well be a smoker. Truly thought I'd try the place again over the past week. Big mistake
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
It still is really awful. No food anymore but the drinks are still not good. Bartenders could care less about serving. They got a jukebox type machine but it's not on a lot do the bartenders can pick their music, kind of stupid and a waste. Beer still tasteses off and flat I think taps are still dirty But more important WHY IS THE JUKEBOX ALWAYS TURNED OFF BY THE BARTENDERS and WHO DEFACED THE MURAL. You need new staff.
google avatar

Hugh H.

Yelp
Really enjoy the overall chill vibe of this place. Their lunch service is surprisingly really good.
google avatar

George C.

Yelp
Great bartender named dee took care of me and owner leaned are class acts. Will definitely come back. Felt like home and now converting to a regular

Yelp
Chill. Early happy hour report: Very cool bartender, immediate help with menu & happy hour, thanks. I hate it when they leave me hanging. Great selection of sandwiches. I got the $ bubbly- never heard of CA white. $5. Fine. So many things to eat or drink here, you could get confused & end up across the street- which I may do- but so far, I'm enjoying the very laid back environment. Thanks DTLA.
google avatar

Yelp
Cool little spot in DTLA. My friends and I usually come here for drinks, which their cocktails and beers are great! What we didn't realize, was that their food would be so good too... which we were pleasantly surprised. Meatball and Italiana subs were hands down delicious. Bread is warm and crispy. Sub comes with a side of potato salad or you can swap them out for chips. Come hungry and grab a drink!
google avatar

Yelp
First time visiting this bar because the Falls was closed .: I can't say I had an overwhelming nice welcome .. Came in with my friends who are cyclist . The bartender said it would be fine if we parked our bikes and than someone else came Out aggressive posture at us .. either a manger or owner ? Totally rude telling us we couldn't park the bikes and made a scene after we already bought drinks .. this is my first and last visit here..It's all about customer service ..

Yelp
Decent little bar in downtown LA. Good beers on tap and the staff is friendly. Good people.

Yelp
Stop by this bar with some coworkers just to hang out. We needed food and drinks and we were able to find both. We got here at about 6pm so still a bit early during their happy hour. Tried a few of their beers which I will say we're pretty tasty(usually I am not a big beer drinker). For food they have some hot sandwiches and other small items. I had the Cubano sandwich which was real good. It came out hot and tasty from their "pick up your own food" counter. So you order food, they tell you a number and there's a sign that tells you when your number is up and you can pick up your food. Pretty different way to serve food but it works. The staff here was also very helpful and nice. They explained how their food menu works and their beer options. I would be back to this place for sure.
google avatar

Nick M.

Yelp
Come for the beer; get addicted to the sandwiches. On a hot day, sitting on the patio with a tall glass of beer is pretty great. Accompanying that with a meatball sandwich is even better. They get the rolls from a bakery in Culver City and they are fresh, crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside. The meatballs are flavorful and slathered in a delicious red sauce. My friend got the veggie sandwich which was packed with marinated artichokes and red bell pepper, cheese, arugula, and equally delicious. Each came with a small side of potato salad. The sandwiches were about $10 each and filling. I hear that their happy hour prices on drinks are pretty great and that this place gets crowded. But around lunch time there is plenty of room. Next time, I'm also trying the chili I saw other people eating. Must come back soon.

Charles R.

Yelp
The bartenders and doormen allow smoking inside which is gross and illegal. It makes the dexorbitant drink prices almost a non Issue
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
We swung in here for a few drinks before meeting friends, and had delicious IPAs and lagers. We also ordered the daily special (the Gold Rush, a lemon whiskey cocktail) and the Paloma (tequila deliciousness). All really well made beverages. Vibe in here is amazing, not pretentious at all, and the bartender was awesome. Didn't order food, so can't comment on that, but a great bar!
google avatar

Brianne B.

Yelp
I have stopped by this place a few times before shows downtown and it's always a great experience. I love the atmosphere and vibes of this place, and it's a perfect spot to chill for happy hour. and there's sliders and pretzels are so bomb as well as any of their drinks! I'm partial to moscow mules, and they make a great one (with pineapple!) here

Marisol C.

Yelp
I went there last night with a group of friends. This place is NOT military friendly. The manager was talking to a customer next to us as negatively towards us while we were trying to have a conversation with the bartender about being in the force. He did not hesitate to kick us out the moment it was time to close the bar and told us to get the f*** out of his bar. He was rude to me and my group of friends in the armed forces when all we were doing is enjoying the night and talking to the bartender. I had never felt so disrespected. This is place is the worst who do not appreciate American soldiers.
google avatar

Barry W.

Yelp
*** Rolling w/ Katie and her entourage *** Last nite I met several yelpers @ 7Grand for a bourbon cocktail mixing event. Cool. But could Katie call it a nite? O hell naw! ;) So we hit Danny's Tacos, ate, rolled here. I'm truly conflicted over Spring Street Bar. I love the bartenders, love the décor, love the 26-beer dispenser, fully stocked bar. They even offer a simple menu of foods. And for their offering, it's not expensive. I guess I have become a beer snob b/c I was disappointed not to find a deeper selection of beers. Of the 26 offered I've had probably 20 already, and none were foreign. How can you ignore Belgium?!? (gasp) Kudos for having Dogfish though. Dogfish is perhaps best w/i the grouping. I did not eat, but I saw "very simple" food items served. I assume it's sustenance to support alcohol sales ... not a destination for dinner. All and all we had a good time, but with a deeper beer selection and food menu, this spot would be really awesome! *** Spring St is a nice addition to DTLA ***
google avatar

Juanita D.

Yelp
No wonder everyone comes here, $5 for a Tangerine Wheat beer... in DTLA, shut the front door! First time I came here, from what I could remember I had a grand ole time... was a bit smashed so I didn't bother writing a review. Finally made my way back here last night with a friend and was very impressed by the beer selection & the PRICES! The ambience is spot on, they lower the lights for more of a lounge feel as the night goes on. High seats & tables inside & outside. I still want to come back and sit outside on their mini patio (which is always packed too) - Great place also during the day time for some good brew and people watching on Spring St. I'm definitely a fan & will be back, probably this weekend. Yum Yum Yum, it's only 10Am and I'm thinking of that beer I had last night. Great pit stop while bar hopping or to grab a drink - next door to The Falls
google avatar

Yelp
What do you find at the corner of tasty food and good drinks? Spring Street Bar Not only is the beer and wine variety amazing, the bartenders attentive and knowledgeable, the space nicely decorated....the food is pretty freaking awesome as well. I had the procuitto wrapped around melon...yummmmm The burratta....mmmmmmm and a beer sampler....sluuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrp! This will definitely be one of my go-to bars as it's everything I've always wanted in a bar. Also, it's got a patio for your dog lovers who like to grab a bite on the go.

Megan M.

Yelp
Good food, great beer selection, bouncers that are friendly and remember your face, and patio tables right off the street. All my friends that live downtown love this place
google avatar

MsMichele P.

Yelp
Terrific selection of beers and a fantastic selection of sammies. The sammiches are served with one of three sides. I chose the cucumber quinoa mix along with the tiniest, crispiest little peekles (pickles) you've ever seen! Crunch, Crunch, Crunch, so good! The sammich was SUPER tasty, packed with pickled onions, roasted tomatoes, arugula, mozzarella and smoked turkey- KaPow! Right in your mouth! Mmmm... Dreamy... The inside of this place is pretty small (cozy) but there's enough seating around the bar as well as the wall side. The bartender was quick, the food delivery was quick too and the vibe was chill. Spring Street served me proper! I enjoyed it, I'll most def be visiting this place again.

Yelp
1st time there great atmosphere and great customer service I recommend this place nice and clean inside I was able to enjoy myself have a couple of drinks with a couple friends and family . Not too pricey at all will be returning back soon.

Douglas K.

Yelp
Please ignore what I said about this place before. Now the reverse is true. Due to Covid19 and turnover, etc., it turns out Falls Bar next door, is the place to go. Spring bar is a waste of your time. The new staff are not customer service oriented. They can be rude and mean. Lost a wallet here at the bar counter, right after I paid for one beer and someone got too close to me for comfort This place is often empty, probably because their drinks are now quite expensive. Kwame, a black guy, with a long grey goatee, is the worst bar tender imaginable with zero respect for his customers.
google avatar

Jonatas D.

Yelp
Waiting Time: Friendly staff but the food took forever to come out when the bar was basically empty. Food Quality and Price: Vegan food options available, which my friend appreciated. The food is pricey, prepped a la coffee-shop (as in, just sandwiches they make by the bar) but tastes pretty good. Taste: drinks tasted amazing, and so did the simple expensive food. Overall, a pretty tasty average street bar.
google avatar

Toro R.

Yelp
The security staff here is amazing. Came here on Christmas and they didn't let me and my cousin in because he was to drunk. We went to the next bar down the street and he ended up throwing up. Great job security team.

Heath H.

Yelp
Very cool craft cocktail bar with a nice selection of beers on tap. The bartenders are super cool and the owner is a super chill dude. Love the atmosphere! Shoutout to Reggie, Kwame and Irene!
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
My favorite bar in DTLA hands down. Very chill, great variety of beers, reasonable prices, and even some munchies. It gets super busy some weekend nights and one bathroom for each sex is sometimes not enough.. But it is the place to go to for a beer lover who doesn't want to spend a fortune for quality choices. Love love love. would go every weekend if I could!
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
This place has the most amazing sandwiches you can get at a bar. For $9 you can get any kind of hot or cold sandwich along with a side salad or chips. I got the turkey and Sriracha sandwich and split it with a friend - we were full and definitely satisfied with the taste! I come here just for their sandwiches, as basic as it sounds. They also have a side of olives you can order which I'm personally not a fan of, but my friend was extremely excited for it.
google avatar

Andy M.

Yelp
Found this place via YELP... (high pitch voice) SCORE! Alexa the manager was so cool. The beer selection was vast and the Turkey Sandwich, bomb! Definitely a new spot for Rebekah Van Natta and I. 5 Stars! I'll be back to try the Cuban Sandwich.
google avatar

Billie D.

Yelp
I normally love spring Street bar but last night at about 1:40am I realized that I was bleeding through a tampon and really needed to change it. I went to spring Street bar because it's normally so great and asked to use the restroom. The bouncer told me no because they already gave last call. I don't think I should have to tell all my secrets or justify my humanity like that just to be treated kindly so all I said was, "please it's an emergency" but still got a no. I just think that people need to be a little more humane towards each other, and we all need to start understanding the needs of women. It wasn't even 2 yet. Let me go to the bathroom!
google avatar

Rob B.

Yelp
Good little food menu (Italian sandy was great). Not busy with a good beer selection. Good place to stop by!

Yelp
I recently went to Spring Street Bar with a friend who used to live within walking distance, and who used the place as a regular watering hole. In the couple hours we were there, we ran into one of his neighbors, who was down at the bar without any special reason. If I lived within a few blocks of this place, I'd make a habit of visiting for weeknight drinks. It's an easy spot, with good booze and plenty of food to satisfy bar night cravings. The space was pleasant and comfortable, and we got a nice little spot on the sidewalk patio. Service was fast and friendly. The drink selection was great. I drank Stone Enjoy By IPAs while my friend drank whiskey on the rocks. I had to stop myself from drinking more, and regretted driving. The vibe was really conducive to a casual slide into inebriation. I also ate a light dinner while we were there, one of the sandwiches from the bar food menu. This was the Tyson, an Italian deli sandwich loaded with ham, mortadella, salami, capicola, pepperoni, provolone, giardiniera, pickled onions, and arugula. It was pretty delicious. I was almost home when I realized my check was so cheap that I must have been undercharged, and I called and found out that I'd received an accidental free drink. They said not to worry about it, and while I feel no further moral obligation to Spring Street Bar, I expect they'll make back their money in the future. I became an adoring customer during my visit, and I plan to go back for more drinks and sandwiches soon.

Yelp
Regular at this bar, its near my job and i love the sandwiches! Ray is great, and already knows my order when i walk through the door. always gets down on my Moscow mule!
