A bar specializing in cheesesteaks, in Philly, seems like a no brainer. I was looking forward to trying Taste Cheesesteak Bar after a rough day at the office. I met up with a friend for Happy Hour. When we arrived we were greeted warmly, but then completely ignored for what felt like a long time. There was other staff working at the time, so we really shouldn't have had to sit there for so long being ignored. It was a hot day and some water would have gone a long way. It turns out we arrived when it was time for a shift change, so we had to wait for one bartender to close out and for another bartender to start. I was tempted to just leave since it took me a while to realize what was going on, but we stayed and the bartender taking over was very nice and did provide good service. I enjoyed the Drop Your Location cocktail she made me. It's a vodka based cocktail with lemonade.
It is a cheesesteak bar, so the most important thing is the cheesesteak. They have a variety of them, but I stuck with the basic beef cheesesteak. It was huge. It's so filled with steak that it's hard to bite it. And there is something mixed in the meat or a spice on the meat that gives it a spicy kick. It is a legit Philly cheesesteak, but the spicy kick is unnecessary. And It's so hard to get that perfect bite because it's overstuffed. It on a Liscio's roll, which is one of the best rolls for a cheesesteak. The cheesesteaks here are best shared between two people. Definitely come to Taste hungry. If I come back, I hope it won't be during a shift change.
