Pig and Butcher

"In-house butchered and smoked meat is king at this mid-19C pub. Many come for the steaks (for sharing) but the menu offers plenty of choice, from Tamworth pork to Herdwick lamb; the beef dripping served with the bread is deeply addictive. There’s always a great atmosphere at this carnivore’s delight." - Michelin Inspector

The 23 Best Restaurants In Islington - London - The Infatuation

"Meat, meat, and more meat. If you like the sound of that, then you’re well on your way to liking The Pig And Butcher. This Islington pub specialises in rare breeds of cattle, pigs, and lamb that are butchered on site for their daily changing menu. As long as you’re not vegetarian, vegan, or offended by very descriptive British farm chat, then The Pig And Butcher is perfect for a casual catch-up with your favourite carnivores. The Best London Pubs Where You Can 'Eat Out To Help Out'

"Outside Seating: No Though more restaurant than pub, The Pig and Butcher is still just as good for a few plates and pints as it is for a full sit-down meal. Though it’s meat-heavy - things like Tamworth pork chop with marrow and smoked aubergine, or flank steak with triple cooked chips feature - there’s also plenty of pescatarian options too." - jake missing

9 Best Sustainable Meat Restaurants in London | Nose-to-Tail Butchers | Eater London

"Having become an Islington institution over the past seven years, The Pig and Butcher is particularly renowned for its Sunday roasts. Operating from a mid 19th century pub, the restaurant’s main focus is on provenance, with meat sourced from the best farms in the U.K., prepared downstairs in a specially-built butchery. As a result, The Pig and Butcher is able to serve rare breeds such as White Park cattle, Iron Age pigs and Hebridean lamb, all available at cut prices. Consequently, the menu changes daily and champions homely, country cooking seldom available in London." - Jonathan Hatchman

We planned for a small town hall wedding with just our witnesses and our family decided to join in from abroad, so we needed somewhere special for a small family gathering. We communicated via email to choose menus and confirm the booking and although the email communication was very slow and it took several emails to resolve all queries, we would repeat again and again for all our celebrations. We had to choose from one of the set menus and of course, we chose the one with the Beef Wellington and it did not disappoint. Most of the guests came from France and Spain and they have very high standards when it comes to food, specially meat. They all left saying it was one of the best food experiences they had in a while. The scallops were melting in the mouth, the wellington was superb and the right cooking, the fish was fresh and the vegetarian was spot on. I didn't manage to get to the desserts but everyone had high praise. The staff was very attentive, nice and accommodating and we couldn't be more thankful.

Google
The Pig and Butcher is a lovely restaurant with a lovely ambiance, the staff and waiter are all very friendly and attentive, and the food is absolutely delicious. The scotch egg was perfect, crispy on the outside and plump on the inside, with a vibrant orange runny yolk and a touch of flaky salt. For my main course, I had the pork belly, which was also perfect. The skin was super crispy, the meat was juicy and the layers of fat between them were delicious. I loved the abundance of vegetables and the potatoes on the side.

Google
this was a lovely pub. It was completely booked out which is an indication of how good it is, the atmosphere was great. It was a very light pub which meant that we didn’t mind sitting inside on such a nice day. We got the scotch egg to start, this was sensational - without a doubt one of the best I’ve ever tried. We then got the Sunday roast, I got the porcetta. Warning, on a Sunday the roast is the only option to get for mains, so if you wanted to eat something else I’d come another day of the week. The roast was great, everything was done really well and it was a very generous portion, I thoroughly enjoyed it. If I was being highly critical I think the roast potatoes could’ve been fluffier. I got the house white and it was delicious. A great pub!

Google
We went for the Sunday roast, and it was great. We enjoyed everything we ate. The only downside was the service — it was really slow. It was very crowded, so it took quite a while to get the attention of the staff.

Google
So happy that we chose to come here as our Sunday Roast while on holiday in the UK. The atmosphere was lovely, the food was absolutely delicious (easily the BEST Scotch Egg that I've ever eaten), the staff and our server were all very kind and attentive, and I thoroughly enjoyed chatting about wine with the owner (excellent selection by the glass!) I've already recommended The Pig and Butcher to several friends and will certainly return on our next visit across the pond! Thank you so much for a lovely experience!

Google
Great Sunday roast, but very busy definitely need to book in advance. The food is delicious and the staff are friendly and helpful. The one vegan option is really good as well, could do with giving more gravy.

Google
This was my second visit to the pig and butcher. The food is prepared perfectly. Everything just tastes amazing, without being over spiced. It has a freshness that adds to the flavour. The staff were also very polite, quick and attentive. I ordered a spicy margarita that wasn't on the menu, yet they made it and made it well. Would highly recommend and will definitely return

Google
Saturday lunch was fabulous for food and service. we started with sourdough bread with whipped butter and beef dripping...so simple and yet so scrumptious! we then had the gnocchi and pork belly plus triple cooked chips. everything 5*. a real shame for the atmosphere: every single table around us had a dog. I love them, but not having three dogs poking around me while enjoying a meal. also, it gets very loud, so all in all not the best place for a date

Yelp
The relationship between the two nouns in the name would indicate some tension. Upon postprandial reflection, the name must imply, like the food here, perfect execution. I don't always appreciate a scotch egg, but this one was meaty, crusty, and delicious. The mustard sauce gave a crucial acid kick that balanced out nicely. Our entrees were similarly excellent. I had the succulent and tender lamb rump and my wife had the crisp and juicy duck. Plate aesthetics matter, and the presentation was great for both. The dessert kind of stole the show. My wife and are still talking (and fantasizing) about the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. It is a hot, gooey, glorious rendition. We inhaled ours. It is exclamation worthy. The hostess was really great and helpful. Despite the fact that we showed up as the worst kind of American tourists--hungry, tired, desperate and with no reservation--she finagled a prime time table for us on a Friday night. If we were lucky enough to be locals, I suspect we'd come here all the time.

Yelp
Was in the neighborhood to see some queer theater at the King's Head, so wanted a hearty Sunday Roast beforehand. Yelp did not disappoint since the rave reviews lived up to the hype! Super busy with other Sunday Roasters and a little hard to get a seat if you don't have a reservation, though we snagged a picnic table outside. Scotch Egg: Executed so well! Crispy sausage exterior with a slightly runny egg on the inside. This proves that sausage & eggs is not just for breakfast. Full of flavor and everything I was hoping it to be. Sunday Roast - 45 Day Salt Aged Aberdeen Angus Sirloin: Perhaps the best Sunday Roast that I've ever had! The beef was tender and nicely cooked and a large portion. All the veggies had a the perfect roast texture where they weren't too firm nor too soft. I like how the potatoes were crispy on the outside too. The Yorkshire pudding was eggy and fluffy and crispy on the edges, as it should be. Only thing is the gravy was a bit sparse and there wasn't any extra served on the side, so not much to mop up. The side of creamed leeks were decent, though felt a bit raw. Sticky Toffee Pudding: The way sticky toffee pudding should. Spongy and fluffy spiced cake immersed in a warm sticky toffee sauce. So moist throughout. Plus the creamy ice cream is a good pairing.

Yelp
Looking for a restaurant that would be killer good, I checked my Yelp...London UK. Uber was easy and drove us the 1.4 miles on the wrong side of the road to dinner, I kicked in an extra fiver for the trouble. New pub looking oldish, designed for eating as opposed to drinking. Our open table was helpful in saving us a table for 8:30 seating. Our table in the middle of the floor, surrounded by diners was oh it was loud too, perfect. The menu was great, everything I would have loved to taste and enjoy. C ordered some wine and I went for the Homemade Rhubarb Lemonade, a good choice and refreshing beverage. I'd never had a "Pig & Butcher"Scotch Egg, really good just my thing. Now how come we don't have chefs making these in my hometown...I'll start asking. Next at the table Devonshire Crab Gratin, I was thinking something else and this was exactly what I hadn't expected and delicious it was. C ordered the Truffle Stuffed Sutton Hoo Chicken, she loved it, not a morsel remained. Short Rib, long story here...I love 'em and usually try them when offered. These were exceptionally good. I got a kick out of an entire carrot as my vegetable, yes cooked. Then came the "puddings" a Lemon tart and a Chocolate Ganache contrast for the finish. The checkered flag dropped and we we're happy food folks. Nice Foodguy-martin

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Slightly moody and on theme. Love the selection of meats. Service was prompt.

Yelp
Had a really fantastic meal here. Everything was very good. Only gripe: we asked for A slice of bread along with the burrata. The burrata needs bread. Us 2 ordered 3 glasses of wine, a scotch, 2 starters, an entree, with a side, and a dessert. They charged us £2 for a slice of bread. Two pound for a slice of bread. Really?

Yelp
My first time in London and the locals had constantly recommended to try a Sunday Roast in the city. Found this business highly reviewed on yelp and within a 10£ cab ride from the hotel. Do recommend doing a reservation as this place is very popular for roasts and family! They're very dog and child friendly with dog water bowls ready, and high chairs for the young ones. We came at 3:30 pm, placed a reservation for the earliest time at 6:00 pm. They don't do well picking up the phone for reservations, so come in person in the morning or day in advance for a reservation you'd like. Walked around and went shopping to build up an appetite. The service and host were both funny and very friendly to us, we were well taken cared of and given enough space to enjoy our food at good pace. The restaurant is bigger than it looks like from the front door, plenty of seating. We ordered the beef Sunday roast, hefeweizen German beer, lamb Sunday roast, apple pear cider, spiced Jamaican cake with cardamom ice cream and earl grey tea to finish. Everything was cooked perfectly tender though the lamb was done better than the beef in our opinion, the texture was better. Portions were excellent value for the quality of food, not too much where you need a to go box. But portion enough to leave barely room for dessert, which is what you want. The goal is to be completely satisfied to the point where you get home and pass out happily. The dinner which fed us so well came just under 80£ which we think is an excellent date night spot for the value. We are so happy we got to try out this restaurant as our first REAL dinner in London after living off street food near the hotel for too many days for a conference.

Yelp
We came here for a Sunday roast and it did not disappoint! The roasts were incredibly flavorable - we were particularly pleased with the pork belly and Hogget leg. The cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding that came as sides with the roast were also very delicious. The one thing I will say is that we came for dinner with a reservation at 7pm, and two of the roasts (chicken crown and lamb shoulder) were both already out of stock. This was a disappointment, so maybe I would recommend lunch if you were hoping for the Sunday roast.

Charles C.

Yelp
My favourite neighbourhood pub with excellent meats and a great menu. I really commend the chef and the team for their excellent job.

Yelp
First Sunday roast experience in London, and food was great. Make sure you have reservations in advance and this place is always busy. Before you even get to the front door, the air is filled with the smell of the roasts (a good sign of the food to come). Be sure to leave room for dessert, as those were tasty as well!

Yelp
Made a special trip here from Richmond after seeing all the great reviews. We both love Sunday roast so were looking forward to it. Not sure if we caught them on an off day but it was not worth a special trip. We had the beef and lamb roasts. Both were 3 small thin pieces of roast with veg. Lamb was not pink which was disappointing...perhaps hot gravy overcooked it? Beef was pink and definitely tasted better than lamb. The gravy was outstanding. Cook on veg was inconsistent. I had 1 potato that was not cooked through and 2 that were perfect. Some carrots were hard and others cooked through ... odd. Opted not to have dessert after main. We both left disappointed in the food. Service was prompt and friendly.

Rob D.

Yelp
What a huge disappointment. Booked Sunday Roast for 2 here, many weeks in advance, based on great reviews (and photos) across sources. We were really looking forward to this meal as a key part of our first trip back to London since the pandemic. Service was helpful and prompt, and the ambiance was solid (modern classy pub vibe), so 2 stars for that. But the FOOD.... was straight up NOT GOOD, almost BAD. Got the scotch egg and pea veloute/soup apps. Scotch egg was overcooked... dry meat and yolk not runny at all. Soup was the best item of the night, it was fresh and seasonal, and well presented (perhaps a bit boring/bland, but I suppose that works if you're trying to highlight fresh veg flavor). For mains, I ordered the beef and my wife ordered the hogget, which is basically older lamb/mutton. Both plates were sad. Meats were room temp. Half the hogget was too tough to eat (I know it's a tough meat, but shoe leather just shouldn't be served). Beef was less tough but still not tender, and bland -- you gotta season beef thoroughly, come on. Veggies and Yorkshire pudding were all room temp, and also bland. And we had to ask for gravy?! And this place is priced the same as Hawksmoor?! Get real. Maybe it was a bad night -- others reviews here seem really positive. Maybe it's become a tourist trap -- a lot of the other tables were Americans. Who knows. But I'm embarrassed I brought my wife here as our "nice Sunday Roast" while on vacation. Save your money and time, go elsewhere.

Yelp
So came here on a whim because it was close by our hotel and boy were we in for a surprise. I believe reservations are preferred but went in anyways. Had a very nice waiter and the ambiance of it was excellent. Very lively, good crowd of people all different ages, great selection of drinks and food. We started taking a look at the drinks menu and wanted to try the different beers but ended up trying out some whiskey instead and one of the bar tenders came to us because our waiter told him we wanted whiskey. We had a lovely tasting of different whiskey. Very unexpected, but was awesome sitting down and getting whiskey tastings. The bar tender was very enthusiastic about it too and gave great detail of the different whiskeys. So onto the food. I had the pork and bf had the pheasant. Had a bite of his pheasant and the waiter had warned us about bbs because it is freshly hunted pheasant and lucky me got one. Had a good laugh about it since the bf didn't get one but it's all good. The food was absolutely delicious. We ended up getting dessert as well and am very pleased we did. Had the caramelized rice pudding with rhubarb and it was such a good balance of sweet and tart. I would highly recommend coming to this place if you're in the area. I am probably going back again before I head to the states. It wasn't just dinner, it was an experience.

Yelp
We've been here twice in a week and it's amazing. Once for regular dinner and once for afternoon Sunday roast. Whenever you're here, make sure to order the scotch egg, it's divine. The rest of the menu changes everyday so you may not have the same options. The steak here is great as well as the cabbage preparation. If you're interested in getting the Sunday roast, you will either need a reservation or get there before 11:30 on Sunday. The line picks up quickly but it's worth it. The beef roast was better than the lamb but both were delicious. The staff here is friendly and attentive. It's funny that the British waitstaff is so great but the waitstaff in Paris is awful. Both countries follow a no tip culture but one country is clearly rude about doing their job. I digress. Pig and Butcher is a great restaurant and deserves your visit.

Yelp
Sunday Roast did not disappoint (except they ran out of chicken). The meat was tender and the sides were amazing. The only thing lacking in 5 stars was the service. If you don't mind being ignored while enjoying a tasty meal, this is still a great place.

Paul S.

Yelp
Experiencing the classic Sunday Roast, along with indulging in hard cider and pudding, was an absolute delight. The entire experience was fantastic, and I'm truly appreciative that they managed to accommodate us on a busy Sunday evening.

Once again! Great service, great food, great beers... My favourite place in London so far!

Yelp
Where do I start!? This place is a complete experience!! The decor was rustic and amazing! It appeared to be very popular. We did not have reservations and were lucky to get in, so def make reservations. I tried the Pheasant... it was freshly hunted. Our server warned me to be careful of buckshots in the meat, and sure enough I found one! Lol! The owner came to our table and gave us a complete rundown on their whiskey selection and sampled a few of his favorites for us. My boyfriend tried the pork that was so tasty and delicious. We finished off with a Carmelised Rice Pudding with Rhubarb..OMG!! So good! The staff was so attentive, smiling and so helpful. I would highly recommend to give this place a try!

Emma M.

Yelp
In a nut shell it's just very disappointing. We had the expectation of a fantastic meal, but it was mediocre at best. We had the chicken liver parfait to start where parfait was delicious but the toast to parfait ratio was way off! We needed double the bread for the amount of parfait. We also had the veal for 2. The belly was delicious but the schnitzel was dry and looked burnt in places. If there was supposed to be a jus or sauce we didn't get one. The Jerusalem artichokes were gummy and gluey. The extra side order of new potatoes were lovely and needed. And finally, although hard to manage there was an extremely boisterous large table near us that were basically obnoxious. We were told they had been asked to keep it down but if they had it had no effect. We did not even consider dessert as we just needed to get out and we weren't the only ones.

Yelp
It has been many months since we were in London, but I still find myself thinking about that Sunday roast we had at The Pig and Butcher on one of our first days. We hadn't thought to make a reservation in advance, so we planned to get there early for less of a wait. However, our jet lag was worse than we anticipated, so we ended up there mid-afternoon with a 1.5 hour wait. It was absolutely worth it though, and the staff was really friendly and accommodating. The Pig and Butcher focuses on locally sourced, sustainable ingredients, and the quality of the ingredients is evident in all of the dishes. For the roast, I got the slow roasted pork shoulder, and it was probably the best pulled pork I have ever had. This just tasted like comfort food and made me so happy. The roast came with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, creamed leeks, and vegetables, and each was excellently executed. We also got the board as an appetizer which was good, especially the Scotch eggs, but not necessary in retrospect as the roast was plenty of food and extremely satisfying. We would absolutely return to The Pig and Butcher for either Sunday roast or the regular menu. The entire meal was pretty much perfect, and left us with such great memories.

Yelp
Found this local gem near my hotel. The Sunday roast was wonderful as was the coconut parfait for dessert. Enjoyed the interesting selection of Craft brews. Staff was charming and friendly, and the place was filled with very happy diners. Had a lovely evening here.

Yelp
For all the tourists that want to break away from the manufactured experience: come to The Pig and Butcher. We came in ready for a food adventure and were met with a vibey, cool restaurant with farm fresh food and a new daily menu made of only the freshest ingredients available that day. You may have to try something you've never even heard of but if you want an authentic experience, go for it. We got a tasting platter with scotch eggs, fried whitebait, smoked mackerel and liver pate. Never had any of those things before and loved every one. We both got the waitress's recommendation for the main course, and were delivered a heavenly chicken dish that had us wishing we could lick our plates. The wine menu is full and our waitress recommended a wine that paired well with all of our orders. Overall, great experience.

Yelp
Love this spot. Some of the best duck breast I've ever had. I believe that London is oversaturated with cuisine from all everywhere except for England. If you're looking to try English food, with ingredients that haven't been shipped in, The Pig and Butcher is a good place to start. Great ambiance as well, but can get busy at evening times. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Fantastic food, great desserts, would defiantly go back. Small menu thought so depends on the person's preference. Really nice and crispy potatoes could be little fluffier inside. Mac and cheese was gorgeous creamy. And dessert was heavenly would go back just for dessert. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and didn't hover over us but were still very attebtive. Overall great experience and enjoyed their seasonal menu.

Yelp
best meal of our whole England trip. Pig's head was fantastic, aged steak super good, great bread. What's more my vegetarian wife also said this was the best meal of the trip. You guys and gals know what's up

Yelp
We didn't know what to expect here since we have found English pub fare to be hit or miss. This place is definitely a hit! The bread appetizer is fantastic starter with the beef drippings. We had the Lemon Sole was so delicious! Flaky and flavorful. The cod was also very very good. The kitchen made as little mistake on the Angus Beef entree and over charred the outside so it wound up tasting burnt. I told or waiter and he relayed it to the kitchen and they graciously gave us a free desert, which was very nice. They have a nice selection of ciders, which the women in our party enjoyed. I had a Guinness which went very nicely with the fish. Would definitely come back here again. 11/05/17: went back here with other members of our family who missed the first trip. Another set of brilliant dishes including Pulled Pork appetizer, Hoggette (lamb) and roast chicken for two. The lamb was so tender and moist it melted in my mouth! My wife and daughter loved the chicken for 2 although it needed a lot of sauce since it was a bit dry. Try the Rogue Hazelnut Brown Ale for nice treat if you lot dark beer.

Eduardo F.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant in the Angel neighborhood. They serve only the best locally sourced food. However, I did not find that my food was worth a 5 star review as I had better steak in the US. I had the Angus onglet and it was great, not fantastic but great. The chips were more like yucca, and I love yucca, but something between chips and yucca is kind of strange, so, let's deduct a point for that as well. My starter was the mac and cheese and it was not great. They decided to kill the dish by putting broccoli inside and that simply does not pair well with mac and cheese. The wine list features great labels but kind of short on bubbles. If there is one thing which is fantastic at this restaurant is the BREAD! It is to die for! And the butter... oh my Goodness!! What's that! One dislike... the service overall.... it was not terrible but it wasn't great. We were told that we had 2 hours to have dinner as the table we were sitting was in high demand therefore our time there was limited. Found this to be extremely rude and unprofessional so another star off for that.

Yelp
As a first time tourist of London, I really wanted to experience a good Sunday Roast. Heard good things about this place, so I decided to go. The Roast Beef was exceptionally tender, the potatoes and veggies were cooked well, and the Yorkshire pudding was huge and fluffy. Would definitely recommend this place and also to book ahead of time because it gets busy!

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. Just what you want for a nice Sunday roast I think. Firstly, the great experience started over the phone. I'm not as organised as some when it comes to booking and so I called at 10am on Sunday and asked if we would be able to go for lunch at all. She explained that they booked only half the tables online and left he rest open for same-dayers. LOVE that. She suggested coming at noon or earlier and snagging one for these 'open tables'. Did just that and we were given a table in the middle of the room straight away, it had a bit of a draft but as it wasn't too cold today it didn't matter. I'm guessing the perk of booking in advance is that you get a 'better' table in the more dining rather than pub area. Next up we get some water, choose a wine and ask out waiter if ordering the mixed board starter plus brisket will be enough for 3 or if we should get extra sides. In a refreshing moment of honesty and not trying to upsell us, he told us that he thought it would be enough but we were welcome to order extra later. Thank you. It was more than enough and the 3 of us left stuffed. So onto the food, being now charmed with the decor and staff, I was really excited to to try the famous roast and starters. Mixed board was lovely, varied and creative. Came with some crispy toasted bread-crackers but we got extra bread for good measure (excellent butter) I personally really loved the venison terrine and the pork belly? Taramasalata also super tasty. Scotch egg perfectly runny. For the our main we opted for the beef brisket which needs to be ordered by at least 2 people to share at £17 per person I think. This comes with 2 giant Yorkshire puddings, spring greens, some carrots, gravy, 4-5 roast potatoes and buttered leeks. It was excellent. Well cooked, enough gravy and the meat was succulent. Definitely will be returning to try more items on the menu. Couldn't try dessert bc as I said, we were stuffed! Whole affair with 1/2 bottle of wine and service came to 90 or so. Fab place.

Yelp
Dined here pre-Covid-19 on my last 2 trips to London - multiple times each trip! Sunday roast is amazing - still dreaming about it. Lovely ambience, staff, and best of all food! Finished with a very fairly priced port wine. Overall one of the best experiences of my trip.

Yelp
What a pub experience. I love to drink local beers when I'm traveling. Camden lager is delicious. I'd never had a sausage roll or scotch egg before. The sausage roll at the Pig and Butcher was out of this world. Delicious seasoned meat on the flakiest most buttery roll I've tasted. The scotch egg was also sublime. The real treat was our dinner. We shared the Cowboy for two. If I'd known I was eating blood sausage I can't say it would have gone down but it was savory and delicious. Beat meal I've had so far.

Yelp
This pub gets five stars from me! Great pub! Great staff! Great service! Great food! We had an amazing Sunday lunch here with the biggest beef dripping Yorkshire puddings I've ever seen. I had the lamb and my fiancé had the roast beef. Both were delicious and more food than I we could manage (in the best way possible!) There was a delay on our order and what I love is that the manager immediately came over and admitted that our order had been missed. He offered us deserts on the house to make up for it and the staff were equally apologetic for the delay. But all was quickly forgiven in the face of such refreshing honesty and the pub is truly lovely sit and enjoy your day in. Ps. The cherry on top was the creme brûlée rice pudding, which was just heavenly! Not to be missed! Loves every minute here!

Yelp
OMG - yummy. There are not any other words... pork, beef, and lamb. Best place we have eaten in London so far. The owner is wonderful and out server was so super nice. You cannot go wrong. If you are vacationing from the US I would say go to Sunday dinner. This is a great place to eat at and such enjoyable people! Thank you!

Yelp
Thoroughly professional establishment here. A proper gastropub that was packed at opening at 12pm. I had booked us a table for the famous roast. Because we are such adventurous foodies, after a little thought we went for a roast lamb, sirloin beef and pork. We didn't have to wait long. Maybe 20 mins. They knew what they were doing and all went smoothly. Including a very good Bloody Mary which I needed. In terms of preferable we all loved the beef and pork best I reckon. The lamb was very good too. It's actually my fav meat normally but the pork (pulled) was of great portion and very succulent. The sirloin soft like butter and nice medium rare and juicy. Great roast potatoes with good veg and a side for all of creamed leaks. I will Defo come back. Even spotted a ridiculously good bone marrow all lines up at the pass being soaked in juices. Looked insane. All in all....We came, we saw, we conquered. And we were happy!

Yelp
A charming gastropub with top-notch service and an amazing selection of craft beers (I recommend trying the Beavertown Gamma Ray pale ale, though err admittedly I asked for the one in the most colourful can I could see rather than from any great beer knowledge!). Not a cheap feed by any means but a good option for the 'slightly special' meal category. They have a handful of picnic style tables and benches outside to enjoy the evening sunshine - and spy though the windows at other people's food. After a pre-drink (or two) we went in for dinner and started on the tasty homemade sourdough straight away, served with beef dripping. I chose the rabbit rillettes for starters but got massive food envy of the cheddar and bacon mac n' cheese (I know I know, it was obvious right). My Angus onglet main was nice though slightly charred; I ended up tasting some of the T-bone that the two of the guys were sharing and struggling with (I'm a helpful soul you know) which was far more tender. The lemon posset made for a nice fresh finish (as did the champagne one of my companions got a little carried away in ordering at the end of the meal). The staff were sometimes tricky to catch the eye of but they did a stellar job handling our big group, and certainly very quick to bring more wine bottle refills over! The pub itself is a lovely airy space and I especially liked the blackboard detailing where they source all their meat from. Bonus points for having coat-hooks too. Thanks for having us!

Yelp
Excellent service and the food was incredible.. dessert was amazing. The only complain we have is that we ate way too much and completely cleared our plates. Highly recommend this place. The atmosphere is nice young and hip.

Yelp
I found out about the "Sunday Roast" from reviews of this place on Yelp. The idea of enjoying a nice sunday dinner was ver appealing and so I made reservations months in advance. I have to say that it exceeded my expectations. Our table ordered the lamb, the pulled pork, and the sirloin, and all of the dishes were outstanding. They have elevated somfort food to a high art. The lamb was the superstar of the evening, so tender and perfectly cooked, it was the best I have ever had. The setting is cozy and comfortable, but still had strong sense of style. I highly reccomend.

Yelp
No photo simply because we ate everything right away! :-) Awesome place, great service, wonderful food... and a dessert to die for (hint: rice milk creme brulee with plums and sorbet). If you're wondering whether to come here or not - absolutely yes!

Yelp
Went for Sunday roast with 3 of my friends at 7:30PM. Reservations fill up quickly so make yours now. Anyways, we got one of the special roasts for 4 and even though it was pricier than I had expected, it was definitely worth it. The amount of food was overwhelming and the meat, sauce, vegetables, and sides were delicious! Our server was great and recommended great drinks for us... he even brought out bread for us to sop up some of the residual sauce at the bottom of the pan... All in all, people say this is the place to go for Sunday roast and they're not lying. Try it once... you won't be sorry!

Yelp
After reading all the great reviews, I was really looking forward to my first dining experience in London. The venue was cool, rough wooden tables, paced with people and an army of waitresses running around. Your first impression is that this is a hip and popular place. (And I, aged 30something, was a bit to old for this pub!) But regardless, it's a really nice place, but loud. I arrived London only one hour before our table reservations, in a delayed flight, so I was really ready to get something to eat, and we quickly decided on what we wanted from the menu. Starters as the vegetarian option, panzanella, crispy halloumi and fried crispy lamb was served, and the salad was weird, the halloumi was deep fried, but cold, and the also cold, fried cooked egg white was chewy and quite weird tasting. The fried lamb was more like a sheep nuggets, and tasted like a old wet sheep. Our expectations now (after the starters) were actually higher for the main course, we ordered angus beef sirloin and lamb shank. The sirloin was perfectly cooked on the inside, but had been grilled so the outside was blackened by charcoal, and this really messed up the flavor. Sadly. The lamb was really good, and cooked to perfection! I also ordered a Bellini as an aperitif, but this pub did not know how to make drinks! The peach juice tasted like something from a can, but my latest Bellini was in Venice, so maybe my expectations were too high! I really and truly wanted to love this charming pub. I loved the atmosphere and the interior design. But the service of the staff was not the greatest, the food was disappointing (except the lamb shank!) I would not recommend this place to anyone except to go here and have a beer with your mates, not for a meal.

Yelp
Everything here was delightful including the Sunday roast. We were in London on our Honeymoon and this dinner was awesome. The service, the atmosphere, the liquor selection and THE FOOD! Next time I'm back in London The Pig & Butcher in a definite!

Yelp
Sunday Roast (Lunch): 4.5/5 Cozy, cute, friendly and tasty place for a Sunday roast. Other items on the menu at this farm to table establishment are yummy too. Menu changes daily and these guys have their own butcher. They also have a large selection of craft and imported beers as well and what looked like a promising wine list. Half the seats are up for grabs via online reservation. Rest can be grabbed on a first come first served basis. Call ahead. Portion sizes are v.generous (and I'm a big eater!). Patrons were a mix of locals and expats. Repeat: Yes Great way to polish off our last meal in London

Yelp
A lovely, cozy meal! With a fresh updated menu daily, the Pig & Butcher takes great pride in the simplicity (and locality) of its food. This corner pub-looking shop caught my eye on a recent walk around the area a few weeks ago, and this past week I finally had the opportunity to treat a lovely coworker. I do suggest a reservation (even for a small group of 2!) as we were only able to get in at 8:30pm. The hostess was very polite on the phone and we were treated like welcome guests upon arrival and throughout the meal. My glass (ok, 2) of the Tempernillo was absolutely divine. Warmed me right up and soothed my schedule-battered spirit quickly. They have a nice selection of wines from around the world by the glass, half carafe and bottle. As for the menu...as it changes daily, I can't comment too much on what me be available today, but I can say that the goose rillettes with cornichons and the root vegetable plate as starters were EXCELLENT. Maybe even better than our main dishes. Absolutely lovely. The bread basket and fresh butter also a nice treat to start. We also split the pork with greens (a bit average, but still good) and the whole fish which luckily my dining companion filleted and de-boned without issue. The puddings? Well, icing on the gastropub cake, if you will. We had the chocolate with peanut butter ice cream. Very rich, not entirely memorable...but passable, especially paired with a fresh roasted Americano and hot milk. From the Pig & Butcher site: "We have brought the pub back to it's roots and receive carcasses straight from the farm and butcher on site. We specialise in rare breeds such as White Park cattle, Iron Age pigs and Hebridean lamb while our good friend Seb at Chart Farm in Kent supplies our game - if you haven't tried his venison you are missing out!" Will definitely add to the date night/fun night rotation. It's cozy, a bit off the beaten path, good food, warm ambience, people laughing and conversing, and a really friendly staff...at a price. At nearly 100 GBP for the two of us, it won't come cheap. But, you get what you pay for...

Yelp
I will be going back here again. In fact, I might be in a week when I have family in town. The beef and stew are fracking amazing and I highly recommend them to any of you wandering over. The selection of beer is great and quite frankly I would hire this place out for a party if I had the funds (it was that good). Normally I would give it a 5 star review, but the dessert really let it down. I ordered the cobbler and I have to say the topping was not great. The topping was make separately and set on top and was so thick it made the dessert difficult to eat. Did not rank high on the taste counter as well. That said, the fruit inside was lovely.

Yelp
A rather nice place to enjoy a decent dinner with people that aren't too posh. There's lots of different beers, if you have a neck beard you'll be quids-in. The food was organic and nicely cooked. I had beef rib, followed by a chocolate and marshmallow tart. Very slow service, but the food was worth waiting for. Recommended.

Yelp
I went there on a Sunday with a friend of mine. We arrived at 12:00 and luckily got the last table there. It is really popular for weekend brunch I will say. The Sunday roast is absolutely great. I ordered the one with lamb and there was so much food and I couldn't finish(I would love to tho). I will suggest to book first but they only open half the tables for booking so you might need to book early. I will say it's not too expensive as well. I will definitely go there again.

Yelp
I came here to have a classic pub experience for my last night in London, and The Pig and Butcher did not disappoint! I walked down a quiet street to this pub, and thankfully it wasn't too busy when I came in. There's a great beer selection on tap, and the bartender was nice enough to give an easy recommendation for an American. ;) This is a great place if you have any allergies-first thing when I sat down my waiter asked if I had any allergies which I really appreciated. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food that seems to be here, but I wasn't hungry enough to justify a full dinner. I tried to make a dinner of two sides, but I don't think I'd recommend that route. The sides here truly don't make a dinner, and although it worked I think I should have just swallowed the slightly higher prices for dinner and have gone for it. If you are staying in the area, I think this is the perfect place to have a lovely drink and a great pub dinner!

Yelp
This is long over due but...BEST MEAL EVER IN LONDON and one of the most memorable in Europe. =) Coming back from a 3 weeks vacation through Europe, London was my last stop before heading home. My cousin decided to treat us out before we left. For a taste of traditional English pub food, he suggested the Pig and the Butcher because it was just down the street from his flat and had just recently opened. Apparently the name of the pub is due to the fact that they use all parts of the pig. My kind of place! We arrived for a Thursday night dinner with reservations and this place was packed! It seems the menu changes quite often. The interior is very cozy too. Like a restaurant. But loud like a pub! Entrees Goose rillettes w/ bread - Delicious! Where can I find this in LA? Blood sausage w/ arugula salad - Phenomenal. Been trying to find this too. Mains Cornish Plaice w/ potatoes - Good. Venison pie - Awesome. Love venison!!!! Dessert: Raspberry lemon custard w/ cookies Sticky toffee pudding w/ ice cream By dessert I was stuffed. But it was all really good. Our meal also came with double crispy chips, which are french fries fried twice. AMAZING. So crispy. For drinks, I had a mixed fruit cider. I was so busy stuffing my face, I forgot to drink it all. All the portions were very generous. Service was good. No complaints. I think about this meal quite often. It made me fall in love w/ English food. I'm looking forward to the day when I can go back. =)
