The Best Steakhouses in Los Angeles, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"In Redondo Beach, this elegant steakhouse does beef exceedingly well with a wood-fired sear on the outside while maintaining a juicy, tender core. Chef Walter Nunez assembles a crowd-pleasing menu of clams casino, gnocchi with lobster, and lamb shank doused in rosemary. The main draw is an eight-ounce filet, bone-in tomahawk, but the wagyu flight showcasing two-ounce portions from the US, Australia, and Japan is equally great." - Mona Holmes

The Best Restaurants in LA’s South Bay, According to Eater Editors | Eater LA

"A flashy steakhouse that gets the basics right, the Rex in Redondo Beach serves very good wood-grilled steak and a wide set of thoughtful side dishes, such as sauteed mushrooms to smooth mashed potatoes. If looking for an ideal steak, pick the prime bone-in Kansas City steak, dressed with elegantly brunoised chives. The somewhat Mastros-esque decor, sleek but not too stuffy, feels right for this beachside city. Don’t sleep on the pastas like the paccheri with lamb sugo, which would impress any Italiaphile. The Rex saves South Bay denizens from a trip to Beverly Hills for a proper steakhouse experience." - Matthew Kang

18 Feast-Worthy Steakhouses in Los Angeles

"Tucked deep down south in Redondo Beach, this elegant steakhouse does all the right things in terms of meat: wood-fried chops seared well on the outside and juicy on the inside. Chef Walter Nunez assembles a crowd-pleasing menu of steak tartare, wedge salad, tagliatelle with duck ragu, and branzino. The steaks don’t boast an age statement but are almost all prime grade, such as bone-in Kansas City strip or a shareable porterhouse. Stellar sides like roasted wild mushrooms or fried baby potatoes will make sure no one leaves the table hungry." - Matthew Kang, Farley Elliott

4 Restaurants to Try This Weekend in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Occupying a three‑story space in Redondo Beach, this unpretentious steakhouse from chef Walter Nuñez pairs polished service with an easygoing rooftop cocktail bar; try the milk punch with coconut, pineapple, and sherry, order terrific wood‑grilled, dry‑aged steaks (the bone‑in Kansas City strip is a modest $80 and big enough for two) and round things out with crisp baby potatoes, roasted wild mushrooms, and desserts like a butter cake and salted caramel budino that hold their own against big names." - Eater Staff

The moment you walk into The Rex, you know you’re in for a treat. Classy, luxurious ambiance, and the service from the moment you walk in is top notch. You can’t go wrong with any of the apps, the captain’s shrimp and crispy spring onion were some favorites. Any cocktail you order is going to be great. The dirty martini had hand stuffed blue cheese olives. And don’t skip on the Milk Punch if you are a bourbon drinker, very unique, but oh so good and refreshing. The wedge with Point Reyes blue cheese was crisp flavorful and had some of the best bacon too! For mains, our group did a family style sampling so we could try it all. The branzino was a standout, as well as the porterhouse, with some horseradish cream sauce. The short rib was tender and so flavorful, and tagliatelle was great if you want a great pasta dish. Dessert was a great as well, butter cake was great, the bourbon tiramisu was a hit! Also they make amazing Espresso Martinis. Overall 10/10! If you are looking for a great meal accompanied by fun ambiance and 5 star service, you need to come to The Rex.

It was amazing and the staff was great. I set on the balcony and when I stared getting cold one of the servers brought the heating lamp near me. It looks beautiful inside, the music was not super loud which was great. Oh, the Porterhouse steak was delicious and tender.

Rex’s Seaside Steakhouse is a Vibe From the moment we walked into Rex’s Seaside Steakhouse, we knew we were in for something special. The ambiance is upscale but totally inviting—perfect for a night out with family or someone you’re trying to impress. Our server Angela was the definition of hospitality. She walked us through the menu with so much knowledge and warmth, guiding us from cocktails to dessert without missing a beat. We started with a round of perfectly crafted cocktails and a beautiful glass of wine that paired effortlessly with everything that followed. The wedge salad was crisp and indulgent with all the right toppings, and the New York steak? Juicy, tender, and cooked to absolute perfection. Every bite was a reminder of why this place is a true steakhouse gem. We ended the night with their silky panna cotta, which was the perfect sweet finish to an already incredible evening. I came here with my parents and we all had an amazing time—but next time, I’m coming back with a date. Rex’s hits that sexy, elevated vibe that begs for a little romance.

I came here for dinner with my husband and friends, and we had such an incredible experience! Everything about this restaurant deserves 5 stars. The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed. Every single dish was outstanding! The steak tartare was absolutely delicious, and the wagyu tour was an unforgettable experience—definitely worth trying. Our entire party left completely satisfied. The recommendations were spot on, and we all left feeling happy and full. Highly recommend this place! We’ll definitely be back.

As a vegan/vegetarian how do you walk into a steakhouse/seafood restaurant? Very easily - on first glance some big dudes sitting who turn out play for an LA team- do the math - yep they ordered steak. I was truly blown away by the one vegetarian pesto/pistachio asparagus! Amazing! The chef took such good care of me! Connor - Shay! I am truly blown away as I was truly treated so well! If you go and you are vegetarian with perhaps friends who are not, it was so nice to feel like I could not be told here’s a salad! It may only be one pasta dish ( apparently not on the menu that long) but maybe this means more will be added! Yes please!

My lovely better half & I went the Rex for first time last night & were completely blown away. It is a beautiful restaurant layout and build wise and has different level’s available for whatever your needs are. We tried all kinds of things on the menu and they were all just fantastic. Zac the head guy is an amazing soul as we had the opportunity to chat & get to know him and our waiter Art. In these crazy, uncertain times we live in it was so awesome to have that interaction with Zac & his team. We feel like we have new family after dinner last night! Words cannot express what a superb dining experience we had. Infinite Stars isn’t enough…. Thank you Zac, Art & Team Rex! We are customers for life… See you soon! Michael & Jahira

We had quite few things, everything was delicious, service was superb, and the ambiance was fantastic! Almost forgot, we reserved for my wife's bday ahead of time, and as soon as we walked in they gave my wife a birthday card with I believe the whole staff's signatures signed on the card. A great personal touch!

I recently visited REX Steakhouse in Redondo Beach. The atmosphere was fantastic—small, intimate, and the lit-up menu was a really cool touch. The cocktails and appetizers, especially the tomato soup with the grilled cheese, were absolutely delicious. However, I did face an issue with the steaks. Despite multiple attempts to get them cooked to the right level, they still came out rare. The service was very apologetic, and the general manager kindly comped the steaks, which I appreciated. Overall, it's a place with great potential and excellent appetizers. Hopefully, they can improve the steak preparation for a more consistent experience in the future

Yelp
I made reservations via Open Table-- it allowed me to pick where to dine. I picked the second floor patio so we can see the view and dine. It was a HUGE bummer that we had to be seated inside in the far back in the inside of the first floor-- they didn't even put us in the outdoor patio on the first floor. We were celebrating a work transfer for my husband and I really wanted to have a nice view and ambiance. Instead we had a couple louder groups within earshot. I really hoped the food made up for it. Luckily it did, hence the high marks. We ordered the octopus and kale salad as appetizers. Both were great. We loved how the octopus was nicely grilled. The salad portion was large and they brought it to us split. I ordered the Napa cab and the NY strip steak. My husband ordered the rib eye with a bourbon. I would go back and order the rib eye. NY strip was good but his was better. We ended it with a tiramisu. Very delicious. They did give us a shot of rhubarb something as a palate cleanser. It was very strong. Our server was amazing. She wasn't very over bearing in checking in on us but made sure everything was good. Would return for a special occasion. Maybe we will be lucky enough to sit on the second floor.

Yelp
We went for my birthday. Food was okay. Not bad but not outstanding as I would've assumed. Our waiter was not diligent and to be honest he didn't seem to really check on us. We had other waiters come check on us more than him which I appreciated. It was a nice experience though. Beautiful restaurant.

Yelp
This place is meant to be an appropriate response to the following question: Where do I go for a nice steak dinner if I do not want to drive to Beverly Hills and I live in the South bay? That is exactly why I went to this place. I wanted to have a nice steak dinner and I did not want to go to Beverly Hills. The whole experience was strong, decent, and I would go here again---- but it is another nice steakhouse, not the steakhouse of the land. To first praise I offer the following: It is near the crystal blue waters of Redondo Beach. It is an upscale place, comfortable, modern and sleek. William and I loved their Milk Punch cocktail. He and I each had 4-- that is why the bill was high. We ordered the Tour of Beef, the Shank, the carrots, the mac, the and the Wedge and tomato soup. The tomato soup I sent back. It felt like the soup was in a pot. Then we ordered it. Then they put it in the micro wave to zap it. Then they brought it to me. The meal tasted like it was waiting for me to enjoy it. Not like it was made for me to enjoy. I rather have the former, the latter is not for a place like this. The steak, the wedge (great salad! great bacon- it was chunks of bacon, like squares of bacon!) it all deserves kisses upon kisses. The ones that people give to signify appreciation-- not the double hand one- the one where you use one hand to pick a kiss from your lips and then you ship it to the universe as gratitude. The shank, the steaks all came at the same time with the sides, the carrot, the mac and the potatoes. William and I enjoyed the steaks-- we wanted more meat. So this is a sign of a good steak house. The carrots had this sweet glaze that would make Homer Simpson gargle in anticipation. It is a safe bet for a lovely meal. When we were there was a couple behind us- in a booth- celebrating their engagement. The bride to be (they read to me as a male/female heteronormative couple) had been wronged. From what I gathered, she asked for a glass of wine. She was brought the wine but in the wrong type of glass. One time I was watching a procedural show called the Mentalist, and I learned that certain wines are served in certain glasses. I did not investigate further so I do not know if the choice of glass impacts wine taste. If it does the woman had a right to complain, as she did, like a fussy lady of elegance. If wine taste does not change by glass then she was being difficult for the sake of pretentious silliness. But how would I act if I am given an elegant cocktail in a sippy cup cause they don't have glassware? Exhausted but I would accepted. This same gal then complained to the manager that her food took an hour to get, to her and she was celebrating her engagement dinner. The manager was cordial and polite. He offered her dessert. She wondered if a Martini counted as a dessert? The manger expanded the definition of dessert to acomodate her implicit need. I debriefed later with our shared server. Apparently, she was acting like that to get a free drink. I could see that. To be fair, I agree that the gal in the booth beside me was being precious, fragile and frail--- and with items and people like this one must handle with care.

Yelp
We went to Rex for our first time to celebrate our anniversary and was treated like royalty! The food, service, ambience and whole entire staff from the second we walked in the door we were welcomed with warmth and smiles. Thank you for such a beautiful experience! Francisco our server was AMAZING!! We will be back soon

Yelp
One of my clients rented this place for an anniversary function. We had a private rooftop room which was a great space for the celebration!! The menu for the event was fixed, but everything was so danged delicious!! Walking hors d'ouevres included yakitori beef (so stupidly tender!) and truffle caviar chips!! (whomever thought of these chips needs to be crowned!!!) once seated, we had hawaiian crudo (super fresh) and caesar salad and a kale salad and the most amazingly crusty grilled bread with seasoned butter! Dinner included rib eye (cooked to perfection), truffle chicken, and salmon. All of which were very good. On the side we had mashed potatoes, broccolini, and roasted mushrooms. Dessert was a strawberry pavlova - which i am normally not a fan of, but this i would eat regularly!! i really wanted to lick the plate! Everything we had was on the regular menu - and everything we had was delicious!! Service was friendly, efficient and impeccable! I would not hesitate to dine here, even without a group! The Rex gets 58 very solid thumbs up!!!!

Yelp
I had an exceptional dining experience at the Rex. Everything from their quality food, above and beyond customer service and swanky ambience was top tier. Not to mention the entire restaurant smelled like a glorious, ritzy candle. My tour of beef was perfectly cooked and seasoned, wedge salad had generous cuts of bacon and butter cake was one of the best I've had. Side note, ordering the sourdough bread with butter is an absolute must! Thanks for a fantastic dinner!

Yelp
Rex!!!! Love this steakhouse along redondo beach. I've come here for special occasions (christmas dinner, birthday dinners) and need to make it a more regular occasion! Food is super reasonably priced and large portions. Their appetizers are amazing and pasta. My favorite is their steak tartare which is only $23! The main attraction which is their meats could have a bit more to be desired but definitely scratches the itch. Portion is so large you can def split a single meat and other entre for two people. For four we had the two person meats and two entrees and still had leftovers. Don't forget to come here for your birthday for that nice birthday ice cream! We had Kyle who attended to us and he was the best. So sweet and such a gentlemen!

Yelp
The Rex Seaside Steakhouse is an absolute disappointment in terms of quality, pricing and customer service. We went there for my aunt's wedding dinner, having reserved the 3rd floor months in advance through their coordinator Tanille, only to find that on the evening of the event we had been switched to the larger, less intimate and undesired 2nd floor without explanation or apology. My aunt had explicitly chosen this restaurant and contracted with Tanille for their 3rd floor, and for them to pull a total bait and switch on what should have been one of the happiest days of her life is beyond belief. Then to completely ignore her upon check-in, as well as failing to respond to her after the event is insane, especially when she spent over $7k for the evening. As for the food, it was mediocre; steaks were fine, halibut inedible - super overcooked and dry. But wow, STAY FAR AWAY from this place. There are so many other places that value your business far more than The Rex does. Yuck.

Yelp
Came here for a work dinner and the food was amazing! My rib eye steak came out perfect which was seasoned well and had the right amount of char around the edges. The carrots and mushrooms sides were delicious! Service was great as everyone was so attentive. I'm so glad I finally found a steakhouse near me! I will definitely be back! Oh and the butter cake!!! Oh my!!

Yelp
[Review #793] 2023-081 Food & Drinks Order: Tray Passed Appetizers: CAPTAIN SHRIMP, TUNA TARTARE CONES, AVOCADO TOAST; CAESAR SALAD (crouton, romaine, grana padano), BREAD (butter, maldon salt), CHICKEN (truffle jus, polenta), TOMAHAWK (medium rare; prime, bone-in), SHRIMP PASTA, BABY POTATOES (scallion ranch), ASPARAGUS (béarnaise, fresh herbs), MAC & CHEESE (mornay sauce, toasted panko), STRAWBERRY PAVLOVA (guava cream, meringue, strawberries), PEAR OF DEUCES, PIÑACILLIN (pineapple, ginger, honey) Server: Brody (friendly, superb service) Our company held its annual holiday linner celebration at The Rex Seaside Steakhouse, located in Riviera Village. The restaurant behemoth (it's 3 stories! & has an elevator if you want to skip the stairs) was easy to spot & there were several open metered spots by the entrance. Score! Upon entering, you're hit with seasonal decor to celebrate Christmas & delish scents floating en route to our private room on the 3rd floor. As we waited for our colleagues to arrive, I started with a fun pear cocktail, admiring the gorgeous sunset while chatting about holiday plans. Our guy, Brody, was friendly & proficient in alternating between executing drink orders & passing hors d'oeuvres. The tuna tartare cones were cute, but too small of a bite & not cool enough to highlight its freshness/butteriness. The grilled shrimp was a tad overcooked/rubbery & missing cocktail sauce. Of the 3, the avo toast had more flavor & best executed. The salad was a caesar, no wow factor, just a side of greens. But that simple bread... wowza, so buttery & crisp... your hips won't be happy but it's so nom-nom awesome! Our main course consisted of a perfectly seasoned & cooked medium-rare tomahawk (but not carved well, too much fat) & delish roasted chicken. I paired it with a refreshing non-alcoholic Piñacillin. While the tomahawk was tender & tasty, it's the chicken that's the "winner winner chicken dinner." Soooooo tender & succulent... with a delish jus that you might want to lick the plate. LOL ^_^ No comment on the pasta but it was for one of our pescatarian bosses. The sides were a good pairing with the rich proteins, but I would have preferred either Zucchini (tomato, grana padano) or Roasted Wild Mushrooms (pecorino) over the mac & cheese. The asparagus had a nice bite & char, while the baby potatoes were fork-tender & addicting. We shared holiday tradition stories prior to dinner, & a fun round of white elephant exchange. The gag gifts were especially hilarious! Some minor menu execution blips, but Brody's amazing service made up for it & provided us an amazing party to close out the year!! Definitely coming back to taste what Chef Walter Nunez has to offer... happy holidays! Recommended: Chicken, Tomahawk, Avocado Toast, Tuna Tartare Cone (plated form is better), Baby Potatoes & Asparagus (a must!), Bread (addicting), Strawberry Pavlova, Captain Shrimp, Mac & Cheese. Dulce de Pear & Piñacillin highly recommended!

Yelp
The best espresso martini! Captain Shrimp outstanding-- my new favorite place for martinis-- Seriously

Yelp
Another great evening at The Rex! Kudos to server Jordan T who did a great job, solid knowledge around the menu and ideal attention to our table by the entire staff. See my previous review for more Indepth details on the restaurant aesthetics. What caught my attention this time around? They have really cold Smog City IPA beer, which was delicious. I had not previously indulged in the bread which is coated with butter and maldon salt (A grade). The Crudo, kanpachi, truffle, kumquat was also new to me and melt in your mouth good (A). However, I was underwhelmed by the 1/2 dozen dressed seasonal oysters from Washington. The presentation (variety of condiments) and overall oyster size was just okay (B). Overall, this is always a great meal, and my latest visit was no exception to the rule. If you drink and enjoy a proper meal with sides and appetizers, expect the spend about $125/person, including tip.

Yelp
This was our first time at Rex, but not our last. It was impressive from the moment our party of 4 walked in the door. The ambiance is very first class and inviting. I knew this was a class act when I opened the menu to find it backlit for easy reading. The other thing I liked was there is ample street parking, no valet hassle. Our server was Aaron who was knowledgeable and attentive. He explained it is best to make all your selections at once as the process of oak smoking steaks takes a while as does the sides and desert. We started with two wedge salads, split for four people. The half wedge portion was more than ample. The salad had really tasty blue cheese dressing, cherry tomatoes and smoked bacon chunks. A1 salad. The bread they served was delicious and perfect with the salad. 3 of us ordered the 8 oz filet and one the NY Steak. The béarnaise sauce was awesome as was the peppercorn sauce. Whatever sauce you choose with your steak the portion is more than enough vs having to ask for more. One of the filets was too rare and Aaron quickly delivered another filet and all was fine. The oak smoked meat flavor is truly delicious, unique and the steaks were all tender. Kudos to the chef. For dessert, they comp 'd my desert as it was my birthday. This was a large ice cream tower that was eaten by all four of us, not a skimpy dessert. We shall go back to Rex for sure.

Yelp
We were missing the ability to go to some favorite restaurants in Beverly Hills. It just seemed like they were not worth the drive as we were staying in Redondo Beach for the month. But we found this gem. Had dinner with friends on Saturday night and it was so good my wife asked to cancel our reservations for her birthday and return to The Rex. It did not disappoint! We thoroughly enjoyed our waitress on both nights, Angela. She was so friendly and welcoming. We were also served excellently by the sommelier and enjoyed his lively discussion. Then the manager Zach, on the first night invited us for a tour of the restaurant, it spans three floors and has a wonderful layout. Now on to the food, we didn't get any pictures on Saturday but the following night made efforts to take photos. Totally on point and presented very well. Forgot to mention, the hostess took receipt of my wife's birthday flowers and had it placed on the table when we arrived. Living in Charlotte we have really enjoyed the food scene there. Unfortunately this restaurant shows us there is still room for improvement.

Jenni K.

Yelp
We went to the restaurant for first time Saturday night. Not a good experience. Waiter? came by and asked my husband if he wanted flat or sparkling water, and then left. He never asked me. Next Waiter took awhile to get to us. Took our orders, all good. Then we got our wine, our bread, and soup. All ok. Finished soup, got second glass of wine. Then waited over an hour for our entrees. Waiter came by once and said "Food should be out soon". We waited an hour. We were never offered more drinks, or reason, or anything. Food came out... Fillet was under cooked, but waiter didn't come by to check. Also, for high end dining... the potatoes should NOT be instant potatoes out of a box. Horrid. We finished our meal, with no offer of refill on drinks. Horrid experience. There are better restaurants, better experiences, and better help. I recommend a pass on this restaurant.

Yelp
Came for a birthday dinner. Tour of Beef, aged rib eye, was too fatty and I expected a better quality for $70. Side of mushrooms were above average but fine. The short rib with mashed potatoes was delicious and did not disappoint. Steak tartar was good but should have been served on light crisps; the thick pieces of buttered bread was excellent by itself but not fitting for the dish. Octopus was very good, interesting at every bite. Service was friendly and good timing. Ambiance was mid century modern meets contemporary with some black and white beach photos (photos were out of place). Felt like walking into a restaurant in New York or San Francisco. Nice vibe. The decor was on point. Sadly word of mouth is not to book celebrations here, especially for private parties because of their horrible event planner. Our birthday guest received a generic card signed by the staff. "They didn't even bother to put my name on the envelope" the honoree said. Oh the menu makes a nice first impression--perfect for dark steakhouses. Hint: you won't need to pull your iPhone out to read the menu. Another nice touch. Metered parking in front.

Yelp
After giving this restaurant three chances, they have struck out! The food is mediocre and so is the service. It's a shame, because it is a very pretty place.
google avatar

Yelp
Extremely salty!!! (Tomato soup, broccollini, and even the salad) The steak and alcohol are good. The service and the atmosphere are good. Just kinda disappointed for such nice restaurant with such salty food. I drank so much water that night.....
google avatar

Martina T.

Yelp
Metered street parking available or free street parking if you're willing to walk a block or two. The ambiance and decor is fancy and classy. We were headed to a private event upstairs and the lady greeting us did not walk us up to our room, but rather just gave us directions on how to get there. I felt that was tacky. Maybe she was afraid to leave her post in case other customers arrived. The service is courteous. The main issue to this place is food comes out very S L O W. The house bread was good but very oily. The New York strip steak was a bit too salty and very fatty. I had to trim off a ton of fat to finally get to the meat. The meat was not tender or soft. The steak was ok only. The roasted potatoes, broccolini and mashed potatoes were all very good. The wedge salad was pretty ok, it had big chunks of ham, I didn't love it or hate it. The hot coffee was great. Overall food wasn't memorable but glad to have a fancy, more upscale option in Redondo.

Yelp
My sister and I had a wonderful time at this restaurant. The entire staff was genuinely friendly, and the food was fresh and flavorful. From the grilled shrimp appetizer to the 8oz filet and the various side dishes we had, each plate was amazing. I highly recommend this spot!

Yelp
This was one of THE best dinners I have ever had!! The wagyu steak & potatoes were definitely one of my favorite parts of the meal, alongside the butter cake which literally melts in your mouth. The appetizers are a must, the steak tartar with the toasted bread is incredible. I tried two drinks, and believe the cocktail menu rotates. The staff was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. It's a great place for date night or special occasions. Super classy and even has a drink and cigar lounge on the above floor. Highly recommend

Yelp
I found out about this place from a friend and last week we decided to try it out. It was great. Food is amazing so are the drinks. Very nice vibe. Service was a little slow and they were not that busy. It took them 20 mins to bring the check and another 15 to pay the bill.

Yelp
Parking is metered on the street. Also a parking lot that is available across the street. Check signage for parking. Nice ambiance. Interior is well decorated. The service was amazing. Francisco was our waiter. The best waiter. Very friendly and attentive. Ordered the bread, champagne, Caesar's salad, tagliatelle for starters. All were absolutely delightful. The tagliatelle had duck ragu in it. So tasty and not gamey at all. The best dish. The bread was also delicious. Soft and crispy at the same time. Got the ribeye, filet mignon, and gnocchi. With roasted potatoes, mushrooms and the hoppin john risotto as sides. Ribeye and filet were both cooked to perfection and seasoned very well. The gnocchi had lobster in it. Also very very tasty. All the sides complimented the main dishes. Then had a spiced rum with pear liqueur to end the night. Very nice and not overpowering. Thank you Fransisco for making it a memorable night. Will definitely come back and recommend to others.

Yelp
I'm sorry to say, but I had the worst experience dining in this restaurant. I should have wrote this review months ago, but I was contemplating because I really don't want to write a bad review, but I have to be honest as I can't shake off this awful experience. It was our anniversary back in March, my husband made the reservation to get a good table. When we got there, we were seated in a tiny little table near the bathroom where there's a lot of traffic. I called the host to see if we can get seated to another table, she then called this guy thinking he was the manager. So I kindly requested him if we can get seated to another table, he responded very rudely saying " this will be the first and last that I'm doing this for you guys" and I said, this is our first time dining here and we're celebrating our anniversary, his just shrugged his shoulders, like saying "I don't care". So we moved to another table and come to find out he's our server. He treated us very rudely the entire time and I couldn't even request for anything from him. Our entire anniversary night was ruined. Moral of the story, I should have called the manager and let him know what happened to us, but I didn't. I hope this won't happen to anyone because it's not cheap to dine there and be treated so badly.

Yelp
Hands down the best butter cake I have ever had. Salted caramel drizzled over a dulce de leche ice cream atop a melt-in-your-mouth cake oozing with butter. The ribeye was fantastic as well. Milk punch, easily my favourite cocktail I've had all yearlong. Sugar, front of house hostess, was so sweet to us as well. It was a delightful evening filled with jazz low-light ambiance and memories made sharing the fresh french fries.

Yelp
Had a pre dinner drink at the second floor outside bar...beautiful setting and we were plenty warm between the heaters and the fire pit table. Dinner was on the first floor in the main dining room, also a beautiful setting. Excellent rib eye, blue cheese wedge salad and all. Great service too. Love this place! It's my special occasion go to!

Yelp
I read this review in Next Door and was shocked. I was there and was not wowed, that being said ...

Yelp
A long wait if you don't have a reservation, but the cocktail patio is a comfortable place to wait and socialize. The food is good, but there are enough other steakhouses in the South Bay like Pacific Prime that have same prices and better steaks.

Yelp
Rex's was recommended by some friends and we are forever greatful. Angela was our server and from her welcome to her goodbye she was friendly and professional. She made some nice recommendations for dinner and made us feel and home. Her service was the perfect balance of never feeling rushed or forgotten which is a real talent. My wife had a lemon drop martini and I had a Rex's old fashioned both of which were very tasty. We shared an order of garlic fries as an appetizer and a wedge salad. Both were very well prepared and again quite tasty. My wife had a petit filet and I had the ribeye both cooked medium rare. They came with sauces but both steaks were so well seasoned and cooked they didn't need the sauces. What I loved was the touch of smoke they cook into the meat which really brings the flavor out. We shared the zucchini side. We will be going back to The Rex but I do have to warn you the quality does come at a price. The dinner was quite pricy even given how good the service and food was. My only true complaint is at the prices they charge a $45 corkage fee for wine is excessive and not necessary. We will return but it's a special occasion level cost for us.

Yelp
I did not know there waa a legit steak house at the Riviera Village in Redondo Beach. I took my friend there for her birthday celebration. I was pleasantly surprised by the decor & the ambiance of the place, classy & chic with a modern twist. The food was delicuous and the service was amazing. Our waiter Kyle & the other wait staff made me & the birthday girl feel special. My only complaint was that the kitchen messed up on the birthday girl's filet mignon, cooked more raw than medium rare. And the butter cake was a big disappointment. It was tough & hard, not soft & fluffy like i was expecting. Overall, i truly enjoyed my experience at the Rex Seaside Steakhouse and will be happy to come back again. Did you know they also gave a cigar lounge on the upstairs patio? Will definitely have to try it next time.

Yelp
Appalled by how bad this restaurant is. I've literally had far better food and better service at some of the old diners on PCH.

Yelp
Excellent for events. The third floor is amazing for any small group. We had a multi course meal with cake and a slideshow that had to be set up. The staff at The Rex did well in hitting everything perfectly and being attentive and on time with our group. The food was delicious. They made our reception dinner memorable and I'm forever grateful for that.

Yelp
A gorgeous location along the Avenues. I don't post reviews unless the food or service is monumental good or bad and the Service sucks! We we really were looking forward to trying to The Rex. Walked up to meet friends waiting for us at the bar. The hostess says "the bars full"! So we tell our friends who is at the bar waiting for us and she says it isn't full, still two seats open. We return to the host and tell her our friend is upstairs and says they have space, hostess changes her tone and says "oh two just left". (They must have been the invisible people who passed us as we were texting just outside the door). It would be one thing if the hostess said it politely with a smile, but she was rather rude. Not SouthBay beach vibes for sure. So unless you like being treated rudely, over spending to be here, have at it. I'll opt for a more local welcoming place! From the hostess greeting, I'll assume the ambience is pretentious like the hostesses and Jack hole manager with his head set making him feel important.

Yelp
Incredible service! Steak came out more well done than requested and we got a free salad, 2 free sides, and 3 free glasses of champagne for our troubles. Kyle especially was very professional. We will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
If you'd like to have an event ruined... an evening spoiled... or just an overall bad dining experience, then go here! My mom worked with The Rex's event coordinator and booked their 3rd floor private room for her wedding 5 months prior to her big day. When she and all of her guests arrived, it was a complete BAIT & SWITCH. They seated us in an entirely different room than the one that was reserved!! When it was brought up that this was the not the room specially booked, the coordinator was rude, unapologetic and then disappeared for the night. It was very sad to see my moms wedding ruined :( No efforts by the Rex have been made to apologize or make up for this horrible experience. I would avoid the Rex and find another place that values your business.

Yelp
Amazing food and even better service, specifically Rafael, Edgar and Marco. The ambiance is to die for and they have amazing quality wine and cocktails. Definitely my place to goto for a glass of wine, a anniversary date and any dining occasion. Thank you to the Rex staff for the incredible experience!

Yelp
Went a couple months ago for a date night & had the best service. We tried the smelt for an appetizer, it was both our first time trying smelt. Was delicious. The New York strip was cooked perfectly, the broccolini was our side and it was soo good. Would happily return!

Yelp
Let me start by saying The Rex was fantastic when they first opened years ago. I used to go often as I felt it was on Par with Maestros, except local. Great ambiance, food, service, drinks. Then COVID hit and the food quality and even service took a nose dive. I tried it 2 additional times since then hoping it was a fluke. It wasn't. Food was extremely salty. Some dishes were unbearably salty that it wasn't edible. The first couple times I mention things were a bit salty but didn't press the issue as it can be uncomfortable/awkward. But after the third time there and this happened, we told our server not only about our steaks but also the sides. All he did was say oh wow really. He didn't take anything off the bill. We didn't ask because it's not about the money but they absolutely should've comped some dishes. This was the last time me and a few friends said we'd go there. Which was unfortunate because it was so good in the beginning and we'd go often. I went to dinner there last night after a couple of friends told me they went recently and it was really good. I figured maybe things have changed so I was excited to try it again. Nothing has changed except the service was great this time and our waiter was fantastic. The drinks were also delicious, which has always been the case. But the food once again was extremely salty. We couldn't eat two of the dishes (Chicken and pasta) and the broccolini side. My Kansas City was also very salty and meat quality sub par for a steak house but I ate it. It's very uncomfortable to tell the staff that everything was not good so I ate the steak because it was edible. This time they did comp the meals we couldn't eat. I'm not sure what the issue is and how management has no idea about the extremely salty dishes. But this will be the last time we go there, which is a bummer.

Yelp
The Rex Steakhouse was a 2021 entry into the South Bay Dining Scene. I have been several times, so this review is a bit overdue. However, I really want to wait for The Rex to hit its stride, which it clearly has. The building is beautiful. Parking is not too difficult in the Riviera - at least compared to MB! So, it is easy to walk up to this sea-near eatery. They have a large patio and dining room on the first floor with a full bar, a large dining room on the second floor as well as the new hangout called "The Drift." Then, there are EXTENSIVE private event spaces. Reservations are a must except for The Drift, which is walk in and has a fun tiki cocktail menu and small bites. The restaurant is elegant - lots of blues and greys with a plush Old World feel. Chef Walter is the man behind the menu. While there are some mainstays, such as the steaks, the menu changes seasonally. I was devastated when the lamb chops recently left the menu - they were incredible. The steaks are delicious, the asparagus is always a hit and the salads - especially the wedge - are divine. I miss the marinated salmon dish from opening! Not only does the food menu change constantly, but the drink menu does as well. The Admiral and Milk Punch are both mainstays that are highly recommended, but there have been cucumber and ginger drinks, a Japanese whisky old fashion, etc. While the wine list is extensive, I really cannot resist a good mixologist. The service is definitely what has improved most since opening. The team has honed their rhythm and really take care of their guests. We all make mistakes, but this group makes sure that the customer does not suffer and has the best experience possible. The Rex is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. I love seeing them out in the community as well - supporting the schools, little league, hospital and even USC Football. The Rex is the place to be.

Yelp
Disappointing visit! I was expecting great steak with great vibes but didn't experience either. We sat outside by choice since the photos online looked so nice. It was a small, cramped space with noise from the bar across the street and a crazy party next door. I think sitting inside would have been better. I ordered my steak medium and it came out rare so I sent it back - something I never do. Even the waiter was surprised when I showed him how rare it was. I got the steak back and it was chewy and not good. For a steakhouse I was expecting better! I have had better steak anywhere else. There was no garlic on the garlic fries & the asparagus was so hard. What I did like was the service, the bone marrow sauce, and the asparagus sauce. The drinks were just okay - nothing I'd order again or that I got excited about.

Yelp
This place is amazing! It's so underrated! All the food is wonderful, service is great, portions are great and they make sure their customers leave full and satisfied. They don't miss! I love this steakhouse! Please try it! It

Yelp
Took our son to celebrate last night in California before he heads to the east coast for college. Ordered 2 "Rex Steak", Ribeye, and the trio. The Rex steak and Ribeye were over cooked. I had requested a new Rex steak which arrived after everyone else finished theirs and had very little flavor. We contemplated going to Mastros and decided on local. Very regrettable choice. $700+ later.... hopefully leaving with fond memories for my son and doggy bag for the dogs.

Yelp
Great experience at Rex Seaside Steakhouse. - Ambiance is great, so happy to have a place like this in Redondo - Good service - Menu's light up - Everything we ordered was great, some items were a bit too salty. Other an that everything was tasty. I recommend the sides and fish dish. - There is a lounge area upstairs - Plenty of parking, but might take time to find a spot during busy nights

Yelp
We went for Mother's Day dinner and the food and the service was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
I have been to the Rex twice now, and each time the service was terrific. The first visit, I enjoyed my meal, and my steak was very good. This second visit, the enjoyed my meal, except for the Ribeye steak which had a very heavy smoke taste, which I didn't care for at all. Near the end of our meal, a manager stopped by to ask us how everything was, and I asked him if he wanted me to be honest, and of course he said yes, so I mentioned the smokey taste of the steak. He told me that their chef cooks the steaks on white oak, and that may be why it tasted smokey. I'm thinking that because we had a 5pm reservation, possibly the white oak hadn't had time to burn long enough. In any event, I didn't enjoy the meat, but all else very good. I would return, but would be hesitant to order a steak, but if I did and it was smokey tasting, I would be done. I gave a 4 star review, as it is really a nice restaurant, and all else was great

Yelp
Thursday night's Fortaleza tasting dinner -- I usually would review places on Yelp but have more respect for this establishment. So I emailed them. Did they answer? Nope. Sadly. Mind you, we've dined here several times since it's open. We have enjoyed dinners, lunches, and have had joined a tasting dinner before. We find this place to be a special place for us. We've celebrated many occasions here alone, and with friends. It is also a place we often boast to other people about because it's a local and elevated place to visit. However, I feel the need to share our experience with you because it fell very short of our expectations and the standards Rex has set in our dining memories. We appreciated Mitch and Nastasha. They both introduced themselves and were welcoming the entire time. We were about the third or fourth couple that arrived. Our table wasn't filled yet and it was after 6:30. We understand that some are running late but we didn't begin with anything in front of us until nearly 7pm. Before, Mitch poured everyone a little tasting of tequila, we either had to quickly drink our water or, like a gentleman did down the way, pour it on a plant on the patio. It also set a tone for the evening. I had wished that the table was set up for tasting tequila, seeing the curation of cocktails, and how it brings out some of the development of dishes. None of this was done. Tequila was poured into empty water glasses, some were changed out, but mine was not. In a setting where $150 is per person, I was expecting more attention to details. The night carried on and overall, the service was a little slow to getting started. The first course of tuna belly tostada was one of the most refreshing and interesting pieces of the four-course meal. The smoke taste that came from the charred onion, with the mix of fresh tuna, and citrus fruit made it all come together. I could not stop! This was the highlight. Otherwise, the tamal and pork belly were overdone. The tamal was very dry. The belly was not tender or juicy when cutting into it. Sadly, the churro was not very good either but I enjoyed the passionfruit exotic touch. Overall, the menu was not up to the par that we usually experience at the Rex. Every bit of the menu looked beautiful. It was truly art but once tasting it, we did not enjoy the majority of it. The drink menu seemed to be carefully curated. I can appreciate the detail when sipping each of them. Unfortunately, they also fell short. Simple details such as the straw in the frozen paloma being too soggy to use made it frustrating. The la Rosita Campari was a difficult drink to enjoy. By the looks of la rosita's left on the table, it seemed as if the entire table agreed. It was probably a tough act to follow after the saladito (which should be added to the menu). I am comparing this experience to the sake night, where we able to enjoy the raw form of sake. We learned of the history, and it was an incredible experience. It was not done in this setting. Meal aside, Natasha tried to inform us about the distribution which was repetitive. We sat near her, and her conversations were more or less talking about the large distribution and workings. Mitch tried to educate us in the distillery but it fell short. Most of the table were so loud, disruptive, and truly along the lines of rude. One of the guests was using very vulgar language. He was cursing, speaking about drugs, and again, the shift in the night was not enjoyable. I actually wanted to leave but felt that the experience may improve. The noise carried, and I suggested for a window to be opened so it could drown out some of the loudness. It felt like everyone was yelling at each other when talking. At one point, Mitch came over and even said, "why is everyone yelling". Sure, it could have been a light hearted joke, but it is exactly what was happening. Overall, service was good. It's the little details that fell short though. I appreciated being provided new place settings with each course; however, Natasha and Mitch were served first, which I disagree with because guests should have their food first. The atmosphere all fell short. The cherry on top was when a guest took off his shirt numerous times throughout the night. This was disgusting and inappropriate on several levels. It also became more unfortunate when I was made aware the guests are friends of the owner but nothing was said to correct his behavior. Unfortunately, my husband and I could not have paid quick enough and leave. After a three-hour dinner, the car ride was filled with disappointment and dismay at the experience.

Yelp
Still love this restaurant but removing American Express from credit card options and not letting us know until the bill arrives was not my favorite part of dinner. Starting January the Rex No LONGER TAKES AMEX so not a great option for corporate budgets or if you have to use an Amex.

Yelp
General Description: - High end steak house The good: - Good service. - Clean. Smaller space. I think there is an upstairs seating area but I never been up there. The bad: - There are some reviews on here that mention the steak being burnt. I ordered my steak medium. I can taste that the outer edges had been burnt. 75% of the steak's taste is dependent on how it's cooked. In addition, the add ons (wasabi, and bone marrow sauce) are over priced. Other: - Meter parking. I'm not sure if there was free parking. Overall: I wasn't blown away by the experience, but I think I could give this place another shot.

Yelp
Service was 5 star but food was probably 3, so I landed on 4. Waitstaff was good. But as far as steak houses go, it wasn't my favorite. My friends got the tour of beef which looked burnt on the outside - glad I didn't get that! I got the pork. It was just ok. Nothing special. The Brussel sprouts were weird, cream of corn was ok and the potatoes didn't have much flavor. They did bring us out dessert for our birthdays, but for a nice place it was soft serve. The ambience was nice and I had amazing company so it all worked out in the end.
