The 20 Best Ramen Spots In Los Angeles - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Sawtelle is home to plenty of pork-heavy ramen shops, but there aren’t many like Torisoba Sumiya, a chicken ramen specialist where cooks flip birds over open flames. This charcoal-grilled chicken adds a smoky depth to the house ramen, which comes with freshly made noodles and an intensely rich poultry broth with charred specks. Spoon on some of their green yuzu sauce for a peppery bite, and upgrade to the mini rice bowl combo for $5 more (we like the one topped with surprisingly light fried chicken tossed in the sweet and sour sauce). The space is tight, but if you come solo, head to the bar where you’ll sit front row to the grilling action, gaze at the Japanese calligraphy on the walls, and slurp your noodles in peace." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder, cathy park

The Best 16 Ramen Shops in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"A huge departure from the existing ramen styles in Southern California, Torisoba Sumiya goes into the former Yakitori-ya space in Sawtelle Japantown serving a unique blackened chicken-tinted broth. Cooks utilize the existing grill that was previously for yakitori, shaking pieces of seasoned chicken in a wire basket over charcoal. The resulting smoky, charred flavor becomes a prominent part of the all-chicken broth. Wirey green onions, crunchy radish circles, seaweed laver, and a hard-boiled egg provide contrasting bites, while scratchmade alkaline noodles reside under the toppings. This is easily one of the best new ramen bowls in Los Angeles." - Matthew Kang

Torisoba Sumiya - Review - Sawtelle - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

Google
Stopped into Torisoba Sumiya recently and was really impressed with their Tori Paitan Ramen — one of the best bowls of chicken ramen in LA and a standout among Sawtelle ramen spots. The broth was luxuriously rich yet clean, packed with deep umami that lingers without being heavy. The noodles had excellent bite, and the tender chicken chashu was cooked just right. The seasoned egg was a highlight — creamy and flavorful. Everything was balanced and thoughtfully put together. Hands down one of the best chicken-based ramen bowls I’ve tried. I also tried the Charcoal Grilled Chicken Don — it was solid, with good char and flavor, but didn’t wow me the way the ramen did. Next time I’d come back just for the ramen. Friendly service and comfortable space — a perfect spot when you want a quality bowl without the crazy waits some other Sawtelle places have. If you’re looking to explore beyond tonkotsu, this is an excellent place for chicken ramen in LA. I’ll definitely be returning for that broth!

Google
One of the most unique and authentic ramen places I’ve ever tried. I LOVED the charred chicken in the ramen. The spice level was excellent. It was absolutely delicious. The noodles were also cooked to perfection. It’s such a hidden gem! 💎 I will definitely be coming here again! 10/10 experience

Google
OOOOOH MY GAWWWD. First ramen shop where the broth wasn’t salty 🥹 I ordered the BBQ Chicken Ramon (#1) and the fried chicken with tartar sauce. Everything was BOMB 💣 … like no English dictionary words can praise the food here. And the three chef is so cute cooking everyone order in that kitchen lol RUN! If you haven’t tried this place

Google
Pretty good chicken broth ramen. There was no line when we went on Friday at around 6:30, but it got kinda crowded after 7. Maybe it’s like that just for that day. I personally prefer chashu in ramen + karaage on the side, but not yakitori in ramen, so I gave four stars. Maybe I’ll try yakitori don next time.

Google
This has been my favorite ramen lately! They also have another location in the Torrance area called “Ramen Sumiya”, which makes it super convenient to enjoy such delicious ramen at either spot!

Google
Torisoba Sumiya joins many of the great ramen restaurants on Sawtelle. It is located on the street side of the Olympic Collection on the corner of Sawtelle and Olympic Boulevard. It is a cozy restaurant with about 10 tables and counter seats to watch the open kitchen prepare the fire roasted chicken. We had the fire roasted chicken ramen, rich chicken ramen and the spicy chicken ramen. They are all served with a rich chicken broth. We also ordered the ground chicken bowl on the side which was quite tasty. They also have yuzu kosho on the table if you would like to add some flavor. I would highly recommend Torisoba Sumiya.

Google
Food is unlike anything ive had before! Charcoal grilled chicken over rice or in ramen is amazing and savory. Can be a little heavy but love it every once in a while. Service is great and staff is kind :)

Google
I tried this new place and left with a smile. The spicy chicken ramen is rich, flavorful and big. It really is spicy and enjoyable. I asked for the combo with a bowl of rice and chicken. Good portions. Staff was nice.

Yelp
Two things to know before eating here: you must like chicken, and you must enjoy a thick, gravy-like broth! Every ramen and rice bowl option is chicken-based, and the ramen broth has an extremely rich chicken flavor. I had the Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen ($20.98), which includes charcoal-grilled chicken. The bowls may look small, but the dish is incredibly filling. You can choose between a regular or large noodle portion for the same price. They also offer combos with a small rice bowl for an extra $5.90 if you want a little variety. You can see and smell the chicken and onion being grilled behind the bar. It smells amazing in there! I've also tried the fried chicken and ground chicken. Both are solid, but the BBQ chicken and the broth are the standouts here, and I don't think I've had anything else quite like them at other local ramen restaurants. The noodles are great. I recommend trying the yuzu paste included on the table. It adds a little extra little pop of flavor. The shop is small, so service is fast with a quick turnaround. There is underground parking located in The Olympic Collection building. Last time I parked there on a weeknight, they charged $5 upon entry to the lot. I usually look for street parking elsewhere in the area, especially if I'm there on the earlier side. Overall, a satisfying meal. It is on the higher end of standard ramen pricing, but I think it is worth it for the quality and strong flavors.

Yelp
Sawtelle's ramen spot! So good!!Tried this new ramen place in Torrance and it was amazing!! The chicken paitan broth was super rich and creamy, but not heavy or smelly at all (you know how some chicken broths can be too much? This one was just perfect). You can really tell they make it in-house--so flavorful. I also had the grilled chicken that comes on top... omg, it's actually charcoal-grilled over a flame! You can taste the smokiness and the outside is slightly crispy while the inside is juicy. I was seriously impressed. They also have a spicy ramen that's only available in the U.S. and it has a nice kick--not just spicy for the sake of it, but really flavorful too. Definitely something I haven't seen in other Japanese ramen spots. Overall, really happy I found this place. It feels like one of those spots that's gonna get super popular soon. Definitely coming back to try other bowls.

Yelp
Ramen is pretty good and the charcoal-grilled chicken is clearly the main attraction. Service is good until they get busy, and the vibe is clearly echoing of old school Japan. Food itself, at pretty good for both grilled chicken as well as chicken char siu, means they're a bit short of memorable, especially with so much competition in the area. Verdict: 3.5 stars, but will round up, as rounding down seems unreasonable.

Yelp
We ordered the Pure Rich Chicken Ramen for $19 and was left feeling extremely ripped off. The for the price the portion was too small, only had half a basic egg and two pieces of rubbery chicken. The broth left a LOT to be desired with my eating mate saying, he'd rather have American Chicken Noodle soup. The protein was barely seasoned and not a great texture. I was still hungry after the bowl and very confused at how they could charge so much for something so unsatisfying. Service is great and the space is cute, but the bowl was not rich and something I would have paid $7 for.

Yelp
Intrigued by the combination of ramen and yakitori, we decided to give the restaurant a try while visiting Sawtelle Japantown. Inside it has a rustically charming Japanese ramen place vibe with seating for around 30 people. A glass wall separates the dining area and open kitchen. The staff were friendly and brought the menu and water right after we were seated. We ordered the traditional Tonkotsu ramen (no charge for extra noodles), and the food arrived in 10 minutes. The broth had a very nice flavor and was slightly thick with a hint of collagen. The presence of charcoal from grilled chicken greatly enhanced the taste and aroma of the broth. The thin noodles were perfectly cooked, and the grilled chicken pieces were very tender. The egg was boiled just right with runny yolk. Another great ramen option in Sawtelle.

Yelp
The Japanese BBQ Chicken rice bowl and ramen dishes are delicious and a must try! The Japanese BBQ chicken are charcoal grilled which was fun to watch how they are made. Every bite resonated with an unforgettable aroma and flavor that was enjoyable to your palate and mind! We enjoyed these dishes along with the Pure Rich Chicken Ramen and Fried Chicken with Tartar Sauce. Place can get packed and everyone from your party must be present to be seated. Service was friendly.

Yelp
Came here for the grand opening on 10/6, and had a fun time! You can tell the staff were really excited for the opening and were encouraging customers to share their thoughts, recording the atmosphere, etc. They also had a deal for the first 100 customers, to get half off of ramen bowls! The inside of the place is clean and nice-there were counter seats as well as normal tables. Service was fast as well and when they accidentally discounted us too much, they let us have it due to calculation error. My whole party of 5 ordered the BBQ chicken ramen, which seems to be their specialty. The chicken is made of charcoal and has a very smoky flavor, which seeps into the broth. The broth was very smooth and creamy while still being light, which I liked. The noodles were bouncy but slightly hard/chewy for my taste. The uniqueness of this ramen is no debate, I've never had ramen with this flavor profile and it was fun to try a charcoal chicken ramen! Though candidly the flavor was too smokey for my own tastes. I would recommend coming here once to see for yourself!

Yelp
What I love about ramen shops in LA is that they can give more than just your standard miso, shoyu, tonkotsu(which are still great), and Torisoba Sumiya is a welcomed addition to Sawtelle with their unique chicken broth. I had the BBQ Chicken Ramen and Nanban Don combination. The ramen had a very nice smoky/charcoal finish to it, from the broth to the chicken. The ramen itself is like a mix between yakitori and ramen, with the chefs even cooking it on the same grill and using tare. The nanban was light, crispy, and good. Overall satisfied and definitely will have this in my rotation of ramen spots.

Yelp
Torisoba is a chicken ramen shop where you're find some delicious, soothing booth and noodles with good view. They specialize in a bbq chicken where they'll cook it over the grill so you'll get some nice char flavor. Chicken ramen (non-bbq) was decent. Chicken itself was cooked fine but a bit bland as if health was the key, so prob best for when you want some chicken ramen to cure a hangover or cold. Def needs the table green yuzu for a kick. The bbq chicken bowl was delightful - good sauce on the rice and chicken had good portions. The deep fried chicken app is a good shareable bite as well. Worth a visit to try something new in sawtelle

Yelp
It's been awhile since I've been blown away by a restaurant, but Torisoba Sumiya exceeded my expectations and was definitely a memorable meal. The space is pretty small but we were seated right away at the counter around 11:45am on a Sunday. Since they're known for their charcoal chicken, we knew we had to try it for ourselves. We ordered the Japanese bbq chicken ramen, the rich chicken ramen, and a small Japanese bbq chicken rice added as a combo. For the ramens, the regular and large portion for noodles is the same price so we got the large. We enjoyed watching them cook the chicken on the grill through the glass pane shielding us from the smoke, and food arrived shortly. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The Japanese bbq chicken is definitely the star of the show - perfectly tender with so much flavor without being oily in any way. The rich chicken ramen was delicious as well, with the creamy broth that we drank every last drop of without it being overly salty. Not to mention there is a spicy yuzu pepper paste on the table, which gives another level of depth to the ramen. Every dish was executed perfectly, and it was so comforting and had the right amount of umami that left me thinking about when to come back. Overall, such a unique take on Japanese bbq chicken that I don't think can be found anywhere else in LA. I can't wait to return if I'm in the area!

Yelp
Really good customer service, the restaurant is more on the smaller side so it can get crowded during peak hours The noodles are pretty starchy so paired with the super rich broth it's a very comforting meal, all the flavors really coat the inside of your mouth and the portion size is perfect. LOVE the yuzu koshox, it helps cut from the richness of the broth A regular and large are all the same price so I would opt for the large! The fried chicken is still really juicy but crispy on the outside
google avatar

Yelp
I haven't tried the ramen here yet but the chicken and rice bowls are pretty good! I highly recommend the ground chicken bowl which was flavorful, and came with a small soup. The soup is really tasty, albeit quite oily. I poured some of the broth in my rice bowl to give it additional flavor. I also added some spicy yuzu that's provided at the table. The tables are tiny for two people and quite uncomfortable, but the bar is great! I felt so cramped the first time I dined here while sitting at the high top. Service is prompt and efficient. I would come back to try the ramen.

Yelp
Pretty cheap, tasty quick fix for japanese food. Grilled green onions are very smoky and i love them. Can be busy at certain times.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little place in Sawtelle! Service is quick and friendly. Broth is thicker chicken. The #2 just has chicken breast which was a little dry and hard.

Yelp
Torisoba Sumiya features chicken ramen ramen, and I have to admit that this is my first time ever having chicken in ramen. The staff were all friendly, and with options to sit at tables or the bar and no preference, my friend and I didn't even have to wat. Our seats? Direct view of the chefs! We ordered their Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen (#1) - how could I not? Now, boiled chicken is nothing to be excited over, but Torisoba Sumiya really mastered the charcoal grill. Bite to bite, charred chicken met my mouth met my teeth, and I couldn't wait for the next crispy crunch. Unfortunately, the flavor was a tad off - potentially sour - though I had expected this. I highly recommend their spicy, black seasoning, as it made the chicken much more tolerable, masking some of the sourness. Beyond the chicken, all the other ingredients were tasty, especially the egg. Portions? Appropriate and satisfying! All in all, from sit down to stand up, there was nothing outside of the taste of chicken that could have been improved. I believe mastering chicken in broth will be difficult, but I'm really glad I gave Torisoba Sumiya a try.

Yelp
30 minutes wait for a table on Saturday around 7:30pm. Another 30 minutes wait for our food after we place the order. Portions a bit small for the price but the soup is very rich and creamy. Also ordered a rice bowl. My favorite part of the whole meal was the white rice. Short grained, jasmine rice. Would love to know the brand of rice they serve here.
google avatar

Yelp
Free upgrades to large! Skip the spicy chicken ramen (too oily) Definitely try the charcoal chicken ramen! The chicken flavor is so rich and yummy.

Yelp
Dined in on 2/24/25 around 5:40 PM: It's closer to a 4.5 for me - the ramen and chicken was unique and tasty but the protein portions run on the smaller side in my opinion. There are tons of noodles and broth in the ramen though. The broth was had a delightful savory chicken taste without being fatty or overwhelming. Had a bite of the Japanese bbq rice and it was cooked just right. The whole meal felt very healthy so I think it's a great alternative if you want to feel full but not be in a food coma post meal. Service was super quick, we were in and out within 30 minutes. Parking is metered street parking (free after 8 PM!) and the gender neutral bathrooms were clean (I used both of them lol). Ambience is casual and I like the counter seating area where you can see the chefs work. Appreciate the plastic (?) barrier that blocks the smoke from coming out the kitchen but still allows you to watch the chefs working.

Yelp
Love this place! This location used to be Yakitoriya and Chef Toshi sold his place and currently helping out at this new restaurant. I only order the Bbq chicken bowl as it's soooo good! Adding the yuzu to the chicken takes it to the next level. My hubby loves the ramen!

Yelp
This chicken ramen is completely different from what I have ever had. The primary difference is that the chicken is grilled- so the charred taste is on point and as the grilled chicken sits in the broth, the flavors mix well. We ordered their popular bbq chicken ramen and a fried chicken with tartar sauce rice bowl. Both dishes were super! The fried chicken with tartar sauce reminded me of how much I enjoyed this as a child! The ramen broth was rich and you end up devouring and sipping it all the way to the very end. The portions are rather small for the $20.99 price for a bowl of ramen compared to most places like ramen nagi, tatsunoya which have been my utmost favorite. You definitely need your own bowl and unable to share but definitely worth a try since it is quite different. Parking at the basement lot that the building was located in gave us 45mins free and then $5 thereafter. Just not sure if they charge $5 every hour after or not but 45 mins for this place was definitely not enough. We arrived and was told a 30-35 min wait - as the place was small- but we did find a spot for 3- after the server had asked a couple to move down two seats to be able to accommodate us 3 at the counter. We thanked the people for moving down ofcourse- but truthfully, I would have moved down regardless to give people space without being asked. Ambiance was great- very chill and service was good as well. Would come back to try out their rich chicken ramen next and the other rice bowl dishes.

Yelp
We love this ramen. The broth was so delicious and the BBQ chicken was very taste it. We will be back since thus is a very special ramen
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
I think this is the best chicken ramen I've ever had. Broth is rich, super flavorful, and pairs well with the yuzu paste which helps to cut through some of that richness. Really great char flavor on the bbq chicken and green onion. Good texture on the noodles, a bit al dente / springy, and they give you more noodles (upgrade to large size) without charing you more. It is a little pricy so I wouldnt come too often I think, but it was a really great bowl of noodles. My partner said he's never impressed by ramen, but this bowl impressed him.
google avatar

Crystal H.

Yelp
Tight seating! Came with one other person, and our table was tiny with high chairs, close to the tables next to us. I ordered the charcoal chicken bowl. I liked that it came with a little soup. They said it was similar to the ramen broth. The charcoal flavor was really strong- I liked it, but I could see if others would not. The fried chicken was very tasty, would order again. Overall, the menu is pretty small, just chicken ramen and bowls. I would come back! The charcoal flavor differentiates itself from other noodle places on Sawtelle.
google avatar

Melinda C.

Yelp
Loved the smokiness of the charcoal chicken! I'm not a big ramen fan but this was my second favorite bowl of ramen, the first being iki's burnt garlic tonkotsu. Even the nori and egg were top tier. My friend and I loved the chicken broth.
google avatar

Miranda L.

Yelp
The yakitori here is full of the charcoal flavor and the green onion wad just as delicious. The setting is modern and got a warm ramen late night restaurant feeling. The broth of the chicken ramen is also very rich. The marinated egg is also a nice touch. Japan is full of ramen restaurants like this one that serves delicious food at affordable price. I feel like I'm in Japan again. I also have to say the service here is also very friendly. All the servers here can speak Japanese I think. Really authentic place. I'm a regular here. I also order takeouts from here when I'm busy. They pack them very well and separate the noodles and the broth.
google avatar

Matt T.

Yelp
This is a small shop near Sawtelle, had a good ambience and the seating was a little tight, but not uncomfortable. We had the Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen. I ordered the large, but couldn't really tell that much of a difference from the regular. Service was a bit slow, but we ate during peak hours so it was understandable. The taste was deep and unique, but definitely not your typical ramen. The char is intense and flavorful, I enjoyed the taste but its not for everyone.

Yelp
Wow, I am so, so impressed with this place. I'm one of the few people who isn't hugely into chicken. I'll admit that I came in here because the restaurant I wanted to visit in Sawtelle was overbooked. Man, I'm so happy I came in! The spicy chicken ramen was so, so good. There's something really special about the broth--its consistency is stickier and more viscous, I think, than ramens I've had before. Because of that, the rich, spicy broth coated all the noodles for every bite, and it was unbelievably good. The charcoal chicken dish was also deliciously smoky and flavorful; the smoke taste really penetrates every bit of the meat. This will be my Sawtelle destination from now on! Such a surprise, given that I'm usually not the biggest fan of chicken.

Yelp
Amazing ramen place in Sawtelle. I stopped in for quick lunch and really enjoyed their bbq chicken ramen. They're located next door to Brian Shave Ice. Place is very small, seating is limited to handful tables and bar counter. Menu is super simple with few chicken ramen and rice bowl dishes. I sat at counter which gives you great view of the cooks making your food, especially when they grill the chicken. I got bbq chicken ramen and upgraded to combo #4 chicken rice bowl for extra $5. The ramen was wonderful. Chicken was really smoky and nicely seasoned. Love chicken broth, its full bodied, thick and rich flavor. Not pork broth which you often get at most ramen places. Noodles have good chewy texture and soft-bowl egg perfectly executed. The rice bowl was just as delicious. Charred onions and bbq sauce add extra umami. Thought green yuzu sauce was okay, really didn't do it for me. Service was good and attentive. Only complaint is they only serve one kind of beer, Suntory ...what's up with that! Where's Asahi and Sapporo? Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!

Yelp
This review is not about the food - because we never got to try it, instead we were served with rudeness at the door. There are no signs outside the restaurant that says "wait to be seated" or "please check in inside", so my group opened the door, stepped in literally just to get inside the restaurant to speak to someone that we would like a table. A non-Asian waitress was serving the table near the door told us FIRMLY: "could you step outside?". No greeting, no question as to how many in our party, etc., just straight up scolded us. No one is expecting to have a red carpet rolled out for them but a decent customer service from the angry lady would make a huge difference. To the management, kindly utilize Yelp reviews to get a picture of how your employees treat your customers. Date of occurrence: April 4, 2025 Time: 7:15PM Staff involved: non-Asian female

Yelp
This place is great. I had the Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen combo which comes with the ramen itself and a small rice bowl of your choice for only 5 additional dollars. I chose the Fried Chicken with Tartar Sauce bowl. The ramen lived up to its name and was rich and spicy. It has become my new favorite ramen spot in West LA. The rice bowl was pretty good too, though nothing mind blowing. I was seated right away once arriving. However, it's a pretty small space, so I'm wondering if I just got lucky, or if people haven't caught on to how great this place is since it is new.

Yelp
My gf and I have been tired of the same old ramen offered by numerous spots in all of LA and then found this spot. We came on a weekend at around 6:00 pm and got seated within 10 minutes. I ordered the pure rich chicken ramen and my gf ordered the japanese bbq chicken ramen with a small fried chicken with tartar sauce bowl. The order arrived within 10 minutes. The pure rich chicken ramen had very rich chicken flavor, and not the chicken stock kind. The chicken meat in the ramen was interesting with a slightly sweet taste. The combination of the noodles + broth + chicken meat was just chicken heaven. I tried a little bit of the japanese bbq chicken and the smokiness in the chicken was incredible. I could taste the slightly burnt aroma with each bite and even in the soup itself. The fried chicken with tartar sauce bowl was also surprisngly not greasy or heavy at all. The light crispiness of the chicken went well with the rice and tartar sauce. Overall, both my gf and I loved the food and will be coming back for more. The ramen here is distinctively different from all the surrounding ramen shops. Their focus on chicken instead of pork brings a unique taste to the ramen and is definitely worth trying. Wait time is definitely an issue though, since I heard it was about an hour by the time we left. The restaurant is really small and only has about 10 tables.

Yelp
Come here if you want so much collagen in the broth you can feel your skin, hair, and nails rejuvenating in real time. Come here if you want your lips as black as the goth girl you're crushing on. This comes from the ashes of the chicken(?) (phoenix?) of Yakitoriya. I've seen chef Toshi here working here, on the grill of course, but I'm unsure if he has a stake in the matter or he's just smoothing out the business. The chicken is unrivaled on the level of grill it has. Maybe Tanjiro back in 2021 could rival this level of char, but alas, they are done and dusted. Things are different now. Back in the day Toshi would more lightly grill the chicken and had a sake menu. Now the menu is much more pared back and just has a handful of alcoholic beverages. You don't really get a choice in the matter of chicken--after all this is a ramen spot that happens to have char-grilled chicken and not a yakitori spot. However the flavor is quite a bit more intense. Nobody should complain about juicy thighs though. The noodles and broth are made in-house; no need for Sun Noodle here. The charcoal flavor seeps into the broth which adds a nicely smoky flavor and the yuzu kosho adds a particular depth of flavor that pairs wonderfully with the chicken. Sometimes you just want a bowl of ramen and outside of the sea of tonkatsu floating around in LA rich paitan will treat you well.

Yelp
Was in the LA area and was looking for somewhere new to try out and this place caught my eye amongst many other ramen places. I've never really seen yakitori chicken in ramen so it's uniqueness already made me curious. We came around 11:50am, about 20 minutes after they opened, and the restaurant was already pretty full since it's quite small, the tables were all occupied but there was still an empty counter bar area. But not long after we sat down, the counter area was also full so definitely come around when they open. I actually thought it was over to sit at the bar area though, because we got to see them grill the chicken over the fire while we were waiting. For the ramen, the regular and large are actually the same price, with the only difference being the large having more noodles so honestly getting the large would be more worth (but the large was super filling I was kind of struggling so the regular size would be just right in terms of portion). My party ordered the Japanese bbq chicken ramen (what I got), the rich chicken ramen, and for one of the ramens we did a combo to get a small rice bowl for the Japanese bbq chicken bowl for only $5.90. The food came pretty quick and staff were friendly and attentive. For my Japanese bbq chicken ramen, I am very amazed!! At first I was hesitant at the charcoal grilled chicken since it looks burnt but it was a good kind of burnt and rather tasted more smoky. The chicken was tender and the charcoal definitely added more depth in the flavor compared to the rich chicken ramen. Both were really good though, and it's definitely worth getting the Japanese bbq chicken one despite it being $20. The other highlight was the soup, the chowder-style broth was creamy and slightly thicker for soup, but so good. We all literally devoured everything so that's how good it was. The soft-boiled egg was perfectly marinated and the runny yolk tasted rich and creamy. Overall, Torisoba Sumiya is such a good find and I highly recommend trying if you're ever craving ramen! It is one of those things where I would only get once in a while since it's quite pricy, but since I'm also not in LA often, if I'm ever in the area I would most definitely come back and it's worth it!

Yelp
This is definitely a contender for top ramen spot in LA! They serve a unique charcoal grilled chicken flavored ramen that is hard to come by in this city and they do it well! The chicken had an intense smoky char that you get from yakitori and the broth was rich and fatty. I would definitely try to come early because it can fill up as tge store is quite small. The wait staff was very professional and attentive! 10/10

Yelp
This review is going to be very biased because I am not a fan of chicken ramen. I blame myself for not reading the gigantic sign outside that said chicken ramen prior to entering. I searched restaurants on Yelp and directed my car to go here as soon as I saw the ramen on the description - not reading for specifics. The service was great and the ramen would be considered pretty good for fans of chicken ramen but unfortunately I wasn't a fan. It tasted too neuggeehae which in Korean means too rich/thick/greasy/fatty...

Yelp
Apparently the quality and portions of their most popular #1 Japanese BBQ chicken ramen bowl are inconsistent. What I was served at a weekday lunch didn't quite resemble either the picture in the menu nor in the photos of other reviewers. Portions of soup, noodles, and chicken were all small considering the $21 price tag and the crispy charred texture of their grilled chicken was lost after soaking in soup even though much of the flavor remained. In my bowl were large dense undercooked onions that were chewy and definitely not ready for serving. Although this may not have been the experience of other diners, everyone in my party had this same underwhelming experience.

Yelp
I was SO excited when I saw that a new chicken ramen spot was opening up on the west side! IMO - chicken ramen is superior to pork-based broth, so I had really high hopes and Torisoba Sumiya did not disappoint! The shop itself was on the smaller side, but the shop was clean and efficient. Although they were really busy on the night we visited, the waitresses were all super friendly! One interesting thing was that our waitress asked us if we wanted a regular or large size, which isn't noted on the menu... Both cost the same price, and the size of the bowl is the same, but I think they just put more noodles into your bowl. My husband got the #1 Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen and we unfortunately both found it to be way too smoky for our preference. The char was insanely intense and wayyyy smokier than any other charcoal grilled meat I've ever had. The meat is placed right onto your broth, so the flavor seeps into your broth as well. I don't think this will be everyone's cup of tea, so I'd definitely recommend #2 over the #1. I got the #2 Pure Rich Chicken Ramen and it was AMAZING. The broth was bursting with flavor and to die for! The noodles were cooked to the perfect consistency, and I loved that the chicken was tender and very flavorful. It had the slight essence of char, but wasn't super overwhelming. I would 1000% return for this bowl of ramen!!

Yelp
Another great ramen spot on Sawtelle! Torisoba Sumiya specializes in chicken ramen and is a great option if you want a lighter and healthier broth. But just because it's lighter doesn't mean it isn't packed with flavor! The broth by itself is super flavorful and has a deep umami taste. The portions are kind of small meat wise, but they do give enough noodles (hint: the price of a regular or large noodles is the same!). I've tried both the bbq chicken which they cook over charcoal and the non-charcoal grilled chicken and the charcoal cooked chicken is definitely better! They don't give large portions of the chicken so I would recommend a side of the bbq chicken! Service-wise, everyone was very nice and the space is clean and feels pretty spacious despite the store being small. Overall, definitely a great ramen spot when you're craving a lighter broth!

Yelp
SHOW ME THE NOODS!! This place is fantastic and now our new favorite Ramen spot. It's a simple menu but it will surprise you in the best away!!! Only 3 options (BBQ Chicken, Chicken & Spicy Chicken). The ramen is flavorful, rich and homemade noodles - we couldn't stop eating, let alone breathing, until there was nothing left. It's a cozy place but plenty of room for 2 or move - we got lucky and sat at the bar (watching the chefs cooking / our favorite). We arrived at 7pm and waited 10 minutes for a table. We were in and out within 45 minutes (on a Friday night). The staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. So if you're looking for a quick delicious meal, that won't break the bank, this is the spot! Parking is tough to find but not impossible. We went on a Friday night around 630pm-7pm and found street parking nearby. Pro tip: GO for the combo, five dollar add-on with your Ramen - you be disappointed. We added the fired chicken with tartar sauce combo and it's plenty for 1/2.

Yelp
One of the best places that serves chicken for a lot of their dishes. Found this place on TikTok and thought it's all hype. It's pretty solid and each dish was very flavorful. The service was very attentive and the reservation helped with how busy it can get. The ambiance feels like I'm in Japan with seating along the wall. The food I got was the spicy chicken ramen with their $5 small bowl of BBQ chicken. The portions are a good size and would come back here again!

Yelp
I was reading all these reviews about the bold complex flavor and have just had one of the most boring meals in recent memory. Feels like another over-hyped ramen spot on sawtelle. It's edible and there is some flavor and that's kind of where the positives end. The spicy chicken was one rather dull note of spice. Nothing interesting or memorable. As far as ramen goes, there are much better options. I ordered egg (2 pieces) for $3.50, thinking it might be 2 eggs. Nope. Literally 1 egg for $3.50 cut in half. Inflation must've hit this place real bad. The fried chicken appetizer had a great batter, I was gonna overlook how small and puny each piece was but unfortunately it was all slathered in a very generic tartar sauce, so again it tasted one note and boring. Apart from the absurdly expense egg, the ramen was truly the most disappointing part of the meal. It's kinda pricey too, $35 for this underwhelming duo. Or the price of ten 2 piece eggs.

Yelp
Grand opening today at Torisoba Sumiya! We tried 2 different ramen: Charcoal grilled chicken ramen- Creamy chicken based broth with large pieces of grilled chicken Chicken paitan ramen - creamy chicken based brothe with thinly sliced chicken and green onion on top They were both tasty, and although I loved the smoky flavor of their signature ramen I was a bit uncomfortable by how charred/smoky the grilled chicken was. I definitely prefer the paitan ramen which is the more traditional chicken ramen served in Japan. They don't take reservations, and ramen was 50% off for the first 100 customers today!

Yelp
This shop in Sawtelle is off to the side, and can easily be overlooked, but is a must try! I really enjoyed the smoky taste of the charcoal chicken, and the Spicy chicken broth in the ramen was very rich. I really enjoyed the combo deal to get a bowl of ramen and a small rice bowl on the side. You can get more noodles for the same price as the regular size, and the noodles that I had were perfectly chewy and sized just right (not too thick, not too thin). Service was quick, and sitting at the bar gave us an inside look at the kitchen which was an experience of its own.

Yelp
I've never had charcoal chicken ramen before and lemme tell you, it WORKS. The broth had so much depth, delicate amount of creaminess, flavored so well by the smokey chicken that tasted straight off the grill. I mean, brace yourself for that flavor bomb of smoke. The seaweed was on the fishier side and radishes do nothing for me, but the onions were fresh and THAT EGG. Look at how orange the yolk is, the tell tale sign of a good egg, cooked to perfection. Good size bowl, left me feeling solidly full without being hungry for more or gross from overeating. The location on yelp is a little deceptive bc it's on Sawtelle Blvd across from the shopping center. You'll want to find it!

Yelp
Our friend recommended we try this ramen spot and we're so glad we did! The first time we came they had actually sold out of food for the night so this time we were determined to go early. Their speciality is the bbq chicken. If you're hungry enough, definitely consider getting the ramen rice bowl combo - you get the best of both worlds. For the ramen, the rich chicken ramen lives up to its name - the broth is richer and adds a nice depth of flavor. You can also choose what side ramen, there's no price difference but a larger ramen adds more noodles. Only upsize if you have the appetite! Service was super quick but that may have been because we were the first ones in the restaurant for the day. It was also pretty quiet inside, but there were only a few people dining at the time. Overall delicious food. Definitely get the bbq chicken somehow, it's a highlight. You can taste the bbq even before taking the first bite!

Yelp
A new ramen shop opened up, specializing in charcoal-grilled chicken...and honestly, all things chicken! My partner and I opted to try it out for lunch, arriving a few minutes after it opened. It's a small shop, and it wasn't busy yet when we came...but by the time we finished eating, it was getting packed. I would recommend coming early to grab a seat, ideally at the counter. I opted for a ramen combo, which came out to roughly $23: I chose the pure rich chicken ramen with the fried chicken tartar sauce rice bowl, while my partner just opted for the pure rich chicken ramen. It took a while to get our food, as it's all cooked to order: I would recommend patience and to enjoy the front-row show of the chefs preparing the grilled chicken and everything in the open kitchen! The pure rich chicken ramen was lovely: the broth was thick and full-bodied, and it truly lived up to its "rich" name! The noodles were perfectly al-dente and the soft-boiled egg was great (although I would've liked both halves of the egg). The chicken charsiu was different from the usual pork charsiu commonly found in ramen, and while nice and soft, it lacked any sort of flavor and just tasted like boiled chicken. The fried chicken tartar sauce rice bowl was a nice little side, although I would've liked a bit more fried chicken and less tartar sauce (a bit too heavy for me). Overall, a 4.5 out of 5 for me. But I'm rounding up, as I found the quality to be solid and I appreciate a new concept of ramen (chicken-based) that's trending these days. Torisoba Sumiya is a great place to enjoy some rich ramen and chicken when feeling indulgent, and I see it being a promising shop to compete among the many other ramen joints in the area!

Yelp
Ambiance: it's a small ramen place located in sawtelle, and replaced the former yakitori at the same spot, right next to the sushi enya restaurant, cozy vibes bar table and regular tables, overall packed inside and probably not good for large group hangout Service: lack of service, it took a while to get water, and then another long wait to get food, when it wasn't their busy time, more than half of the store was empty with only three other tables of guests there and two tables were about to leave already, let alone the surprise surcharge for broth in the end Food: the menu has very limited items, essentially three ramens and four bowls, that's it! There was a group of two seated in and left after seeing their menu, and I really wish I've done the same. Japanese BBQ Chicken Ramen - * ramen noodles, chicken broth, charcoal grilled chicken, scallion, red radish, seasoned egg, seaweed, stingy on protein and broth, I had to ask for additional broth, as the entire bowl of noodles was so dry and served with barely any soup left, charcoal chicken tasted terrible Rich Spicy Chicken Ramen - *** ramen noodles, chicken broth, chili pepper, garlic, grilled chicken charsiu, green onion, menma, scallion, seasoned egg, seaweed, mediocre spicy taste Japanese BBQ Chicken Bowl - ** Charcoal grilled chicken, green onion, eringi, seaweed, homemade teriyaki sauce, sesame, scallion, rice, only if you like the smokey and charcoal taste, otherwise it tasted gross and undercooked Fried Chicken with Sweet and Sour Sauce Bowl - *** Chinese style deep fried chicken with sweet vineger sauce, green onion and rice, average Price: moderate portions and overly priced for its quality, absolutely not worth $35+ per person for a mediocre ramen place. I really wanted to like this new ramen place in Sawtelle, but the overall experience here is so disappointing. I wouldn't come back, and absolutely NOT recommend this place to friends.

Yelp
Torisoba Sumiya is the real deal! I knew I was in for a treat the moment I saw the chef pre-warming the bowls in boiling water. Most ramen I've had in the U.S. is served moderately hot, but in Japan, it's served piping hot--and that's exactly what you get here. The broth is homemade--a medium-bodied, chicken bone base with a delicate shio flavor that's simply outstanding. The noodles are straight, refined, medium-thin, and cooked al dente and perfectly paired with the broth: Each bowl is topped with aromatic chicken oil, beautifully charred chicken thigh, and Tokyo onion--all cooked to order by a grill master using a Binchotan charcoal grill. This attention to detail shines through in every bite, and the soft-boiled marinated egg is just perfect. The only downside is that it can get a little smoky inside, but it's well worth it for the authentic flavors. If you're looking for a genuine ramen experience, Torisoba Sumiya is a must-visit!
