Tsuru to Kame, a Japanese Kappo-Style Restaurant Run by an All-Female Staff

"“Tsuru to Kame” is a Japanese Kappo-style restaurant located on Ginza Namiki-dori, operated entirely by a female team. The owner, who has been running multiple Japanese restaurants since the beginning of the Heisei era, always dreamed of establishing a female-staffed restaurant in the male-dominated world of Japanese cuisine. As the business grew, he saw that the female staff had matured and were ready to open a restaurant, making his long-cherished dream come true. Currently, second-generation head chef Atsumi Saito leads the all-female kitchen and service team. The restaurant features traditional interiors, with a ceiling woven from thin slices of wood (ajiro) and walls plastered with soil (kyokabe) typical of top Japanese restaurants." - Kyoko Nakayama

Had a very nice meal here during our trip to Tokyo. The chefs were all very friendly and happy to interact with the customers. They even sang a birthday song for the couple next to us that brought the husband to tears. The food was well presented and the flavors were balanced and subtle. This was definitely our favorite meal of the trip.

Food is delicious and thoughtfully seasonal. They out so much into the Kaseiki experience, including the menu design and hand made bowls. Japanese guests obviously love this place and come back for celebrations. Then the chef shared that it’s an all female team, and they want to empower women. Highly recommend this place!

On our way to Tokyo, a friend told us about this amazing all-female-run Kaiseki restaurant, which was absolutely delightful and delicious. But don't let that fool you. You will certainly get more than the usual all-boys club-style kaiseki. They explained the origin of every single dish they served us with skilled details and enthusiasm. for example, our chef server Mayu explained the history of soba noodles and how she started making noodles with her mom at a very young age. They were definitely different; they were not just skilled at their crafts, they were engaging, and funny. Appetizers: We had wasabi blossom, surf clam, octopus, bamboo shoots, and kombu with herring roe. Main Course: Soup Golden eye snapper bonito broth. Scallop Sashimi. Soba Noodles. Spring Vegetables Tempura. Simmered red snapper. Sushi selection: Tuna. Flounder. Abalone. Eel. Dessert: Mochi cake filled with sweet red bean. A Japanese poem at the end. Haiku. A true breath of fresh air.

An all female kitchen team. not a typical kaiseki. very warm and pleasant atmosphere, and they are all very welcoming. they put us at the counter so we could interact with the lovely head chef who spoke English and her team of chefs. They present to their guests very creative and sensitive dining. It feels they are artists who tell you a story of their culture, not just feed you. They included a poem each for my wife and me with one of the dishes they served us. one of the guests a younger Japanese gentleman was promoted at his work so they asked him with his boss to sit at the counter and announced to all guests this guy received a promotion. then all the chefs sang a song for him with all guests clapping for that gentleman who was of course deeply emotional as other guests as well. The food is on a very high level ! this restaurant deserves a high ranking and many many more positive reveiew. pricing is moderate + certainly for the level of the food and the overall experience. two optional set keiseki menues were at around 13,800¥ and 18,000 ¥ very good selection of local Sake or Whiskey and international wines to accompany the food. for those of you who reserve a place in advance, i recommend to check what extra dishes they have on the day. when we were there, it turned out that one could pre-order some extra dishes which are not included in the set menue of the kaiseki but looked outstanding on some of the local guest plates.
