9 Best Brunch Restaurants in Savannah, Georgia | Eater Carolinas

"With spacious patios and a sun-lit dining room and bar, this coastal Italian-inspired restaurant from husband-and-wife team, chef James Ciminillo and Alicia Farrell, recently opened near Forsyth Park. Opened on weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the kitchen serves comforting bowls of mafaldine pasta in Sunday gravy, pork osso bucco, and beans and greens. Save room for desserts, like the tiramisu topped with chopped Whopper candy — a nod to the owners’ former ties to Pennsylvania, home to Hershey’s chocolate." - Colleen McNally Arnett

Newest Restaurants to Check Out in Savannah, Georgia | Eater Carolinas

"Veratina has expanded to dinner service after receiving its liquor license. Hearty standouts include the chicken parm sandwich, arancini, and Savannah’s most underutilized pasta shapes, such as cavatelli, agnolotti, and mafaldine — all made in-house. The two alfresco areas, albeit small, are delightful options to savor specialty cocktails such as the Mr. Meletti (bourbon, Meletti amaro, and fig and vanilla shrub)." - Kiki Dy

I’m so happy about this new restaurant. Their lunch is exceptional. The location is beautiful, calm, well distributed, quiet. The food is delicious, excellent ingredients, excellent timing (perfect for a short lunch break), the attention is great and their staff works clean! Congratulations Veratina! I can’t wait to see your success offering dinner and cocktails ☀️💕

If you're staying near Foresyth Park, dinner at Veratina is a must! My wife and I finally came to Savannah for a stay. Before arriving, I asked the bed and breakfast owner for an Italian restaurant recommendation and he strongly suggested Veratina. He was spot on! Dinner started with what had to be the best Caesar salad we've ever had. Topped with finely shaved Parmesan cheese, deliciously crunchy 'pan fritto' (I was told this was focaccia croutons ground into crumbs), a 6-minute soft boiled egg and the perfect amount of dressing, I ate slowly and deliberately, realizing that no Caesar salad I order in the future will EVER compare to this. For dinner, my wife had the cavatelli pasta and I had the sirloin. Upon first bite, my wife said eating the cavatelli was like a 'party in her mouth', as flavor after flavor came and went. Sausage, garlic, broccolini, wine and spice mixed to perfection. She insisted I try some and I was in total agreement. Amazing. This takes nothing away from one of the finest steak dinners I've ever had. My sirloin, sitting in a delectable balsamic reduction and topped with crispy sunchoke chips, was cooked to medium perfection. Bite after bite was heaven. Some might think a dinner this wonderful to be a fluke. They'd be wrong. After a long day of site seeing, we decided to stop in again for a few drinks and appetizers. We asked about the bar seating, but sadly, it was full. The only available seats were 'kitchen view' high tops. We grabbed them, ordered a few drinks, the Caesar to split, along with scampi and broccolini appetizers. And watching the kitchen crew orchestrating meal after meal was a bonus. Outstanding again! If you're in Savannah, I encourage you to make a reservation at Veratina. It's likely you'll be as amazed and pleased as we were.

We had a 9:00 PM dinner reservation at Veratina on a Friday night. The space is very nice, kind of a modern Italian vibe with a southern flavor. We ordered the Shrimp Scampi and I had to restrain myself from licking the plate. Fresh Georgia shrimp and excellent flavor profile. We also had the Cavatelli and Mafaldine with a side of green beans. The pasta is hand made in house and very well done. We enjoyed our experience, the service was excellent. I would like to return to see if they add any other pastas to the menu. I would rate the food a 4.6 out of 5.

It was a rough start but the food/service saved the day! We initially made reservation for 7:30 and due to circumstances outside of the restaurant’s control, we were not seated till about 8:15. During the waiting period, their staff kept providing us updates/other options for waiting (bar/outside tables). However due to limited seating/weather, we decided to wait for our table. Once, we finally were seated, their staff was beyond friendly/kind and offered their appetizers as a gesture for our troubles. The Foccacia was crunchy/moist. The Arancini was flavorful and the multiple textures experienced in a bite made it the star appetizer of the night. The shrimp scampi was no slouch either. My entree was the Strozzapreti and it was packed with flavor. the crunch of the chopped broccolini rounded out the dished and pairing it with the Castillo do Neive Langhe Arneis elevated the dish even more. The guests I shared this amazing dining experience raved about their dishes as well. The Chicken Cacciatore looked amazing. The Rigatoni looked elegant and tasteful. Lastly, the pizza (N’duja) that was passed around was finished in mere seconds. Overall, it was an amazing dining experience with great food and better staff.

Google
This restaurant gets busy quickly during dinner hours, so it’s best to make a reservation in advance. We ordered the Caesar salad, but it was overly salty. The strozzapreti was delicious, and the N’duja was tasty as well. However, all the dishes were brought out at once for sharing, which caused the food to get cold quickly.

Excellent Italian food. Easily the best Italian in Savannah. Atmosphere is great, with fun outdoor patios. They do have a kids menu. Cocktails are unique, good, but a little on the sweet side. Highly recommended, will come back again!

Even though crowded, quick service. We shared & tasted several dishes & side dishes with husband & friends. All had intensely deep, heavy flavors. Nothing bland. The pace of service was excellent. -- Though I was sad that they didn't bring any warm bread w/olive oil when we sat down. And at the end, no one offered us coffee nor dessert. I was busy talking so forgot to ask. Would have been nice to be reminded. Salads: I'm used to Europe where they automatically bring you a small salad, just enough to help you digest the food. Yes.. I will be back.

Just passing through for an afternoon and so glad we popped in for a quick lunch. Casual atmosphere with a simple but delicious menu. The foccacio was delicious, chix parm yum and my husband loved the pork belly green tomato sandwich. Thanks for a lovely lunch!

Yelp
What an amazing hidden gem in Savannah. I myself am a private chef and this place truly WOWED me in every way: the food was absolutely some of the best around and our Server Philip was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and a pleasure to be around. Our first course was the Arancini & the Shrimp Scampi. Both of them I will order again. Best Arancini in Savannah! The Homemade Focaccia that came with Shrimp was perfect for dipping in scampi sauce our Second Course we spilt a Caesar salad that I was surprised even that was the best I've had in this area and we had the N'duja pizza yum!!! Our finale course we had the Delmonico Steak with crispy Potatoes & the Agnolotti with Broccolini on the side. All WOW!!!!! So excited to have this place on my list of go to date night places. -Chef Katie Elzey

Yelp
My wife and I were in Savannah for the weekend and had dinner at Veratina on a hot Friday night in July. We arrived a little early for our reservation and headed to the bar in the back to wait. We met a delightful bartender (Alex?) who hooked us up with a couple of glasses of Chianti. The restaurant was quite busy as we surveyed the other guests while waiting. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. My eye caught the pizza-making station and made our dinner selection easy once seated. The hostess seated us at the first table right by the main door. Other guests hovered around our table while they were waiting to be seated, which was not ideal. Also, the noise level in this front dining room was deafening compared to the bar area. If you can get seated towards the back or if the dew point is not in the 70s, even outside, all the better. We couldn't carry on a conversation seated across from one another. We ordered a wedge salad to split as a starter and a Margherita pizza that wasn't on the menu. The wedge salad arrived already split but swimming in dressing. It was a huge portion and delicious, apart from the excessive dressing. When we asked our server about the disproportionate amount of dressing, he said, "Yeah, I noticed that." Why not replate it then with less dressing? The pizza came out shortly thereafter. It looked and tasted delicious. Their crust was not your typical pizza crust, but in a good way. We were not sure what made the crust unusually delicious. Was it honey? We thoroughly enjoyed our pie and found it the perfect size for two. Overall, our meal was enjoyable. We should have just stayed at the bar in the back, though, and had our dinner there.

Yelp
Veratina is a hidden gem. The food was to die for, the vibe is quiet and cozy. The staff was courteous, attentive, and fast. We spent the weekend exploring restaurants in Savannah and this was by far the BEST. And when I say that, I'm saying best of the best. We went Olde Pink House, Elizabeth on 37th, The Public, Collins Quarter, and a few others. Veratina was the only 10/10 on our list. Best app: aracino balls Best drink: community coffee (tastes like a pistachio latte) Best entree: pasta w/ Sunday sauce

Yelp
Immaculate vibe and outstanding service from start to finish. The Arancini was fried to perfection, with a pepperoni sauce that was truly one of a kind. I had the malfadine with pancetta and "gravy" -- absolutely unreal. We also tried the 'nduja pizza and the flavors were incredible -- the touch of honey was perfect. The potatoes were the best seasoned I've ever had anywhere. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This place is definitely worth the trip. We stumbled onto it and the food was amazing. The bartenders were so welcoming and friendly. We sat at the bar since we didn't have reservations and it was nice. The bartenders gave a number of special touches. The only oddity was the vanilla candles that were burning that cover the aroma of the food.

Yelp
Oh my, what a thrill to be the first to introduce this new south historic district Italian restaurant. Their stellar upgrades/renovations since taking over the former establishment include an open kitchen, brick pizza oven, enclosed porches, lovely yet small outdoor deck. Currently they are only open for lunch, but once they have their liquor license they'll open for dinner service. Fresh, crisp and creative is my take of their Wedge Salad. The layers of fresh greens, parsley, tomato, prosciutto with Gorgonzola crumbles will keep me coming back for more! Hubs Cavatelli with Italian sausage, garlic, broccolini was decadent and my next order! We will return!!

Yelp
Dropped by for their lunch yesterday and I'm definitely going to be going back. This place is amazing and their food is even better than that. They have counter service for lunch and just started doing regular dinner service within the last few weeks. It is Italian based cuisine and their chef has nailed it. The space is clean, well decorated and their plates are vintage and classy. Got their Chicken Parm sandwich and the portion size was perfect but it was the flavor that took it over the edge. Would say it was probably the most flavorful red sauce with their chicken i have ever had!!! They have wine and beer sales now but only did their iced tea. The servers are pleasant and attentive to everyone's needs.

Yelp
This is a cute new little addition to the restaurant scene in Savannah. Italian is by far of my favorite cuisine so I was very excited to try this restaurant. Currently they're only open for lunch 11-4 while they work on their expanded dinner menu. Even with this soft opening, the restaurant was completely full at lunchtime. Ordering right now is counter service and they do have a seasonal special menu. The appetizers were by far the best thing that we ordered. The sauce with the arancini was quite literally licked up. However, I am picky about my pasta, and everyone at the table agreed that these dishes were a little bit too al dente. Maybe the owners are trying to go for a more authentic Italian pasta feel, which in its true nature is served al dente most of the time. But the edges of the ravioli were quite literally hard to chew. It almost felt like they hadn't been cooked long enough and were rushed to get out to the table. The tiramisu is the only dessert on the menu, with a light cream. However, the lady fingers only tasted differently of espresso and were dry. Looking forward to the dinner opening as they continue to make minor adjustments to the food and menu!

Yelp
This place is definitely in my rotation strong. I truly believe customer service sets the tone for places and they get an A+. Being I'm a Cesar salad connoisseur I have to make room for it every time. I've been in this building before but they have definitely got that place together it's more open and bright.

Yelp
So glad a friend recommended this restaurant. It is off the beaten path but very easy to find. The food was very good and they had unusual cocktails.

Rob D.

Yelp
Chefs offerings are amazing. I had a Delmonico steak that was prepared to perfection. They have a garlic shrimp scampi as an appetizer that is a do not miss. I recommend the back patio for warm dry evenings with one you love.

Yelp
Perfection! We've been for dinner twice and brunch twice. Amazing food and exceptional service every time. Best bronzino I've ever tasted. My husband and friends raved about the pizza and pasta and focaccia. We can't wait to go back. If you are craving upscale Italian food in a comfortable setting with excellent friendly service, you have to try Veratina. Our new Sav favorite.

Michele M.

Yelp
The owners and their interior design team has great taste in decor. This is a modern looking and comfortable space to eat and drink. We have been to Veratina twice. The focaccia excellent. The arancini crisp, very flavorful and not greasy. The house made pasta w/ Sunday Gravy was devine. It was better than my Nonno's version. I am sure he is watching me from heaven and telling me his was always the best. We also ordered the house made Spring Pea Agnolotti. Delicate, flavorful and delicious. The second visit was for pizza at the bar. We are pizza snobs having lived in New York. Jim, the pizza dough you make is righteous. The finished product exceeded both our expectations. The staff is knowledgable about the wine and food menu and attentive without being intrusive. Each staff member appears to love what they are doing! We will be regulars.

Yelp
Always exciting to get a new Italian restaurant!! We attended for a date night and arrived right at 5 pm. They open for dinner at 5 so we sat immediately. Drinks were good, very different from a traditional cocktail menu with mostly Italian liquors, but they do have a full bar. Food wise, The Arancini was cooked perfect and the sauce was delicious. Both our pastas were a bit al dente, but fresh. The mushrooms in the agnolotti were cooked perfect and the sauce was earthy and hearty. The pancetta in the cavatelli was also delicious. We chalked the al dente pasta up to our meals being some of the first dishes out of the kitchen that night, and yet the flavors were still wonderful. I wanted so badly to try the tiramisu but man, I was full!! I also want to come back for lunch - they have what looks to be some delectable sandwiches on their menu. Stop in and give them a try!

Michele K.

Yelp
Wonderful food, drinks, service and company. And didn't break the bank! We will be back.

Yelp
Great new Italian restaurant in the historic district. Well put together, nice menu, good service and a little loud. We'll be back.

Yelp
Best chicken parm sandwich! Just Yummy! The shrimp appetizer was also 5 stars! Nice folks, great food! It's a keeper!

Yelp
First impression; an excellent Italian addition to the Savannah restaurant experience. Hopefully they will add a few traditional primi pasta option such as cacio pepe, carbonara, alla gricia

Diane M.

Yelp
Everything was amazing- from the decor, atmosphere, food and drink. My second time dining here and it has become my favorite resturant in Savannah.

Mitzi A.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! We shared a pizza and a pasta dish and both were wonderful. We sat at the area overlooking the kitchen, and Jim (the pizza chef) was a joy to interact with. Not only did he provide details and recommendations on the menu, but he also gave us great tips for our first visit to Savannah. We will very likely go again before leaving the city.

Megan H.

Yelp
We have heard so many good things from the food to service of this new restaurant. They did an incredible job remodeling. The ambiance is amazing. We sat at the bar tonight with Billy and Loni. We were greeted by Alicia, the owner, when we walked in and were seated at the bar (which we love). Her husband James is the chef and I would say they are the dynamic duo. We will be back!

Tom P.

Yelp
Smaller quaint place off the beaten track. Family owned family chef and very clean. The Sunday sauce, chicken parm and the Cannoli' is outstanding! We are pleased we found this place... it's a must!!!!

Jim M.

Yelp
Not prone to proclaiming greatness but Veratina was great. Exceptional, imaginative, fresh and fun. Service perfect and actually very reasonably priced. BravoVeratina!

Grant K.

Yelp
Food=chicken parmigiana sandwich was awesome. Wedge salad amazing too. Service and ambience great too.
