Vyčep - Review - Vinohrady - Prague - The Infatuation

"Designed to appear like a modern version of an early-20th-century Czech pub, Vyčep announces itself with a beer counter (a vyčep, in Czech) at the entrance.Refreshingly, this gastropub in Vinohrady breaks the Pilsner Urquell hegemony by serving a full-bodied lager from the small town of Dalešice in Moravia. Walk around the bar and you’ll be in the brick-walled dining room where the chef serves elevated dishes from his home region of Moravské Valašsko, or Moravian Wallachia, a province on the Czech-Slovak border. The menu changes with the season, but expect things like tender buns filled with short rib or roasted lamb drizzled with a sauerkraut and bacon sauce, wild boar meatloaf, or fire-grilled rainbow trout doused in a tomato beurre blanc." - David Farley

"This pub-style place is loud and lively. Both the ambience and cuisine present as an unpretentious, modern interpretation of a traditional inn. Seated on a long bench at small wooden tables, diners tuck into this contemporary take on Czech cuisine and it is quite simply a delightful experience. Dishes such as potato dumplings filled with braised wild boar, red cabbage and bacon sauce are packed with flavour and full of soul – you can tell this is a team that knows what it is doing. The food pairs well with a glass of wine or a good beer." - Michelin Inspector

The 8 Best New Restaurants in Prague | Eater

"One of Prague’s most promising additions, Výčep is a modern Czech pub from the Kolektiv restaurant group (also responsible for contemporary Czech concepts like Meat Beer and Nejen Bistro), plating an updated take on Wallachian (North Moravian) food. Chef Jirka Hrachový has helmed the 60-seat eatery since it debuted in Prague’s Vinohrady district in December 2018. The chef crafts thoughtful interpretations of traditional Czech cuisine, using great local and seasonal ingredients. As an amuse, Hrachový might serve an aged slice of Prague ham, and from there, guests can dive into hearty, beef-friendly plates of unctuous baked bone marrow decorated with wild garlic, chives, and preserved currants, or grilled pork tongue with dill and onion jam. A bright and welcoming contrast to many of the city’s dark pubs, Výčep embraces simplicity and minimalism via blond wood, painted brick, and pendant lighting." - Kat Odell

The best meal we had in Prague, absolutely delicious and seems to be a hotspot for locals too. Staff were knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. We had planned to come for the tasting menus although unfortunately we were able to do this as we missed the cut off point and we wished we were warned at the time of placing the reservation online as we would have happily come 30mins earlier. We had an exceptional evening and would have come again within our stay in Prague if we could. A must for anyone interested in contemporary cuisine.

The perfect day starts with pastry from Kus Koláče next store and ends with dinner here, as my friend and I recently learned. The food was so exquisite that it tempted me to cancel my flight home so I could experience their tasting menu- but alas, I abstained. This was seriously the best meal I had over 2 weeks and 2 previous trips to this foodie capital. An amuse boché was served - I’d recommend ordering a drink to pair. Ordering the chicken entree comes with a delightful show - but I won’t spoil the surprise other than that it left me smiling ear to ear. Everything we ordered came with unique flavors, textures, and other sensations. Elevated Czech+, for sure. In between dishes, the service was immaculate. We were pampered like princes- table wiped and cutlery changed with each course, consistently waited on and needs proactively fulfilled. It’s pricey - of course it is - for this level of food, service, and atmosphere. Ah, speaking of - atmosphere! The decor was lovely, even if you subtract the sunset helping it become magical- I’m not sure how to describe it, but it was like if your grandma was also an interior designer. In short: it’s refined while feeling homey and comfortable. I’d come to prague again just to eat here :) (PS - I recommend reserving in advance - we got lucky with an available table, but it quickly got busier as we were eating)

A little bit outside the very center, but just steps away from the metro, and absolutely worth the visit! The food was outstanding: I started with the chicken soup made with rich poultry stock, which was full of flavor, and then had the lamb dumplings as my main, equally delicious. I really love their modern take on Czech cuisine; it feels fresh yet rooted in tradition. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with staff who are genuinely friendly and attentive. If you’re a food lover, this place should definitely be on your list when visiting Prague.

The food was fantastic—one of the best restaurants in Prague. My whole family thoroughly enjoyed every dish. The most intriguing items were the bone marrow and smoked chicken, which had a rich, unique flavor that I found absolutely delicious. Highly recommended for a quality family dinner experience.

Absolutely blown away by the creativity and attention to detail here. We got the tasting menu and every dish was better than the last. Exceptional ingredients, presentation, and flavor. The whole experience was about 2 hours. We left really full, with a whole new perspective on Czech cuisine.

A modern, fine dining experience with genuine Czech food with a twist. They smoke and ferment by them selves which makes the dishes super delicious and like nothing you’ve experienced. I ordered the sourdough bread with aged homemade butter and continued to eat the butter even when the bread was finished 😅 The salmon ceviche was absolutely delicious and sour/smokey and layered in so many flavors.. The traditional yeast dumpling with meat inside tasted as good as it looks and the sauce for the schnitzel had to be finished with a spoon after the schnitzel was eaten..recommend any day! I wish I didn’t eat here already so I could experience it all over again! ❤️

It was a very unique restaurant we’ve been in a while. The place is somewhat off the beaten track so be prepared to walk a little bit from the main subway station. The food selections are very unique in that you will have almost like a Michelin looking presentations and exciting flavour combinations for some. I really enjoyed the beetroot tart dish which had a great balance of flavours sharp and tanginess was so fresh. I also loved the duck cooked in 4-5 ways. the sausage dish hanging off the trees was an interesting challenge. The service was fine. The atmosphere is somewhat cold (maybe due to the bright white lights..)

We dined at Výčep on our last night in Prague and were pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual, with an excellent price-to-quality ratio that makes it a great find. We shared three different starters—while the portions were on the smaller side, each dish was full of flavor. For mains, we tried the rainbow trout and a traditional Czech potato dumpling dish. The trout was definitely the standout—perfectly cooked and beautifully seasoned. I highly recommend ordering it if you visit. The potato dumpling was a bit too salty and heavy for my taste, but still very well prepared and worth trying if you're curious about local cuisine. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Even though we were the last table and the restaurant was closing, they kindly let us enjoy our wine without rushing us. Overall, a lovely dining experience with great value for money.
