The Best Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Downtown’s Wild Living Foods is one of the few raw food restaurants throughout the city. The kitchen team prepares foods between 104 and 118 degrees to emphasize the natural form of vegetables, fruits, seeds, and nuts. First-timers will benefit from ordering the inventive tacos — a pumpkin seed “chorizo” is packed into a lettuce wrap; drizzled with decadent cashew cheese; and topped with avocado, crispy walnuts, and a spicy crema." - Mona Holmes

The Best Dishes Eater Editors Ate This Week - Eater LA

"Raw cuisine is such an odd, fascinating subsection of veganism. I remember first hearing about it in 2000, and lived blocks away from a restaurant that bragged about food in its natural form and never cooked over 117 degrees. But that doesn’t sound particularly appealing in 2020, when comfort food calls out to me day and night. Recently a friend dropped off tacos from Downtown’s Wild Living Foods, and I was shocked at how happy I was to get a healthy serving of vegetables in my system days before I consume plates full of mac and cheese. The tacos in particular are delicious. Every ingredient is made in-house starting with a lettuce-wrap stuffed with ‘chorizo’ made from pumpkin seeds, drizzled with cashew cheese that feels decadent, avocado, crispy walnuts, a spicy, creamy sauce without an ounce of actual dairy. Wild Living Staff go big on flavor, which always works no matter what type of food you’re eating." - Eater Staff

Google
An all vegan space with such a wide menu option that you may end up not believing if things here are really vegan. A tuna sandwich that blends an amazing almond paste with herbs and spices and is wrapped in an exotic combination of a bread that leaves you asking for more. The coffee here is different. Was a hectic morning for me to ask the person on what it was; but truly wide combo of drinks, food and dessert. The place itself is nice, bright and colourfully created. Parking here is not easily available but best to find a street side option. Not a very chatty server and best to find things in the menu. A few extra questions and that's what she quickly asked me to do :-) but the food, ambience and the overall service made for it all!

Loved this place! Tino was super helpful with understanding the menu. The mint chocolate smoothie was absolutely delicious. I like that they use nourishing, pure ingredients and no traditional sugar. The cookies and cream pie was way too sweet for me. It is quite expensive but a great experience!

There’s something special about finally stepping into a place you've only known from a distance—the energy, the aroma, the anticipation of a meal that’s about to nourish, not just satisfy. Wild Living Foods has been on my radar for some time, having indulged in their catered creations before. But this time, I had the chance to experience it in full—sitting inside their physical location in downtown LA, ready to dive into something delicious with a family member. We opted for the Breakfast Burrito and Jalapeño Burger, paired with vibrant juices to round out the experience. From the moment our food arrived—within 15 minutes, if not sooner—it was clear that every dish was crafted with intention. The burrito was a perfect harmony of flavors, wrapped in something that didn’t just mimic, but redefined what a satisfying breakfast could be. The burger? A delicious-bold, smoky, with just the right amount of spice—this wasn’t a "substitute" for anything. It was a meal in its own right, unapologetically delicious and deeply nourishing. You will not find anything processed here unless they created it themselves in-house! And let’s talk about fullness—the kind that energizes instead of weighs you down. There’s a misconception that eating clean means sacrificing satisfaction, but Wild Living Foods effortlessly proves otherwise. Every bite was fulfilling in a way that didn’t leave me sluggish but instead left me feeling alive. I’m not here to slap a label on this place and file it under “raw vegan” or any other category that limits its brilliance. This is real food. Thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and genuinely crafted for well-being. If you’re in the area and craving something that hits the spot without the post-meal regret, trust me—just come here.

Google
I've been eating here for years. The food quality is still amazing and the taste is still really good. The staff isn't that friendly and the place is deserted during lunch. I don't think you can get healthier food but I could have done with less salt on the jalapeno burger though it was delicious. The pizza is tiny so he prepared for it but man it packs a good taste punch.

Google
unbelievable raw vegan dinning experience. everything ordered went above and beyond my expectations! I cannot recommend the Rad Thai Deluxe enough! Lupe was extremely friendly and helpful. looking forward to coming back the next time I’m in the fashion district again!

Decent healthy vegan options. Items with honey are clearly marked with a bee. Solid breakfast if you're in the downtown LA area.

For one, this is most definitely the healthiest place to eat in LA. The food was delicious and very creative with ample selections and desserts are to die for! I also loved the fact that you can build your own salad, and they have a great system for it. The place is wide and have a lot of room to move around, which is quite calming. But the most noticeable thing was Nicole, she was the kindest one could ever ask for. So I hope you get to run into her when you go there. Thank you Nicole!

Yelp
Honestly, I never thought I'd be into raw vegan food! But this place has me THINKING! Literally everything we ordered (see the pictures) was good. My favorite was the stuffed avocado but literally everything was good. The vibe is super hippie like--calm, peaceful and happy LoL the employees were very nice as well. I'll definitely be back here. Their menu is huge so I have so many things to try!

Yelp
It's my third time here. This time brunch with friends on Saturday at 11 am. I have the matchu piccu salad which I liked and will get again. (no peppers) The blueberry pancakes were ok - I would not get them again. In the past it took a really long time to make the food, which is lovely but today it was very fast. Amazon bowl was quite large. A friend liked the spinach middle earth salad. Ambiance was great. Not crowded. Music not too loud. Strawberry fields drink was delicious and the fresh almond milk hot matcha latte was excellent.

Yelp
Went on a date or something with someone. Very raw. Very healthy. Good energy on the inside. Could pop in again for a juice?

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing service. This is a great spot for a wonderful meal. I love how the restaurant looks ascetically. They have fruit infused water, ready to pour. I love exploring the menu, it's amazing here. Give it a shot!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious !! Try the strawberry ice cream, and the rad Thai with mushrooms. New favorite spot in La. I feel so good after each visit. MUST TRY!!

Yelp
This restaurant is the most yummy and nutritional food I've had in LA. Absolutely delicious and I feel amazing after each meal! The best vegan ice cream I've ever had!!

Yelp
Although this is one of my favorite restaurants, I stopped coming here due to the costumer service having gone down drastically. I decided to try Wild Living Foods again the past two weeks hoping for an improvement, and since then, I have been here several times a week thanks to the lovely lady with very short dark hair and brown eyes who is there what seems like everyday. She seems to genuinely/ethically care about the restaurant, delivering a pleasant customer experience, and has pulled the whole place together solidly where I look forward to coming here and also brought my aunt to dine in. I didn't catch her name, other then remembering she mentioned she had a baby. Thank you WLF for shifting things around here for the better, promote her to manager! As for the food, I highly recommend: Peace pasta Truffle pasta Basil pasta Jalapeño pasta Tuna sandwich Jalapeño burger Nachos All sushi Rose bowl (best bowl, ever!)

Yelp
my go to spot! I love this place! organic, gluten free and non gmo. can't get no better then this place

Yelp
I have been coming to Wild Living Foods on and off for two years. I happened to walk by and the menu interested me enough to walk in and keep coming back. It is located on the corner of 8th and Main St in Downtown LA and it is walking distance from my office on Hill St. Having been vegan for 8 years the raw vegan options were really appealing , I later found out they have warm soups, ramen and really yummy warm pasta, gluten free of course. I found myself wanting to come back daily to try the full menu which I am not fully through yet, it is a diverse mix of everything you can want from a local organic raw vegan restaurant, more options than I have seen and experienced at other vegan restaurants. I have tried almost all of the vegan places in Los Angeles and Wild Living Foods is my favorite thus far. During the summer I love having on of their refreshing and tasty smoothies but sometimes a smoothie is not enough I get there smoothie bowls, I highly recommend the blue iguana bowl it has blue spirulina which gives it its unique color, after enjoying a filling bowl of the blue iguana I would find my body temperature cooling off on the warmer days and I would feel more hydrated from all the fresh fruit In the bowl. I love the grasshopper smoothie it is their version of a mint chocolate with fresh cacao nibs mixed in. Right now during the cooler nights I have been trying there warmer dishes and I cannot get enough , if I have enough room afterwards I will have one of their delicious vegan pies I love the almond butter with the chocolate crust completely raw vegan and it is a really filling and really stimulates all the taste buds . If I do not have a pie I will have there soft serve ice cream which is beautifully displayed in the front when you walk in. I really love the mint chocolate , I need to try more of the flavors. I cannot in one review exemplify all the eclectic options and offerings they have in this one location, this restaurant is a real gem and I am almost there daily to have one of usuals or to try something new. I Love the staff as they are super nice and knowledgeable about the menu and the restaurant is calm and peaceful place to come and enjoy wonderful food and feel like you are eating a well balanced meal that you can feel is nutritious for you.

Yelp
On my a very restrictive diet at the moment and this place aligned with all of my dietary restrictions. Not only that, it was THE BEST food I've eaten on my detox. I got their take on fettuccine Alfredo and the spring rolls. The cashier in the front catered to my every need and she was so helpful! I was DEFINITELY be back & soon!

Yelp
Love the food. I have tried almost everything on the menu since my first visit in 2017. This is my favorite restaurant in the world, and it happens to me in my neighborhood. My favorites are the ice cream and smoothies but also I love the sushi and salads (especially chipotle salad). My young son loves it too. A great group of people, the servers work hard while staying friendly and helpful. Though it's not the focus, the decor is very cute. Even meat-eaters find the food fresh and tasty!

Yelp
When i first moved to LA. I lived on 8th st DTLA and was just short walk from here. I RAN my check up with dining here, it is not cheap but it is VERY GOOD. Food: I've had nearly every burger and desert on the menu and ugh soooo good like they got RAW VEGAN RIGHT! Servers are always very chill people with great energy The space is a straight shooter with seating along the perimeter and enough windows or secluded seating if you desire. I really love this place though expensive!

Robert K.

Yelp
This is next-level food. Call it raw or living, you can taste the life and nutrient density of this food at first bite. The atmosphere is very down to earth and makes you feel like you're partaking in a native American feast haha.

Yelp
foooooood 10/10 deserts 20/10!! i didn't think it could get better. then i had dessert

Yelp
Great place in DTLA to get all plant based breakfast, lunch, or whatever for takeout or for here. It basically is like a grocery store and a market with a deli in the middle. Wild Living Foods has a crazy amount of all vegan items except for a few things. Only bad thing is the prices of course. The portions may or may not be that big, but certainly everything here is full of flavor. Came at breakfast. It's got plenty for the morning. They make everything fresh to order. Maybe a bit of a wait but worth it. Prices are mostly worth it but still pretty high though. It's $15 for a smoothie. The good thing is these are big and thick. Got the Cilantro Parsley and of course it's green. This is made with coconut yogurt. Food is even more expensive if you can believe it. It's about $18 for a meal. Had something good for breakfast, the Lox Bagel. This is an almond quinoa bagel with avocados, carrots, lettuce, onions, sea moss cream cheese, and tomatoes. Healthy and tasty food is what you can get. It's too expensive to go to regularly, to be sure. The only few things with honey are the only things not okay for vegans, with everything being okay for vegetarians.

Yelp
I don't often have the opportunity to eat at a raw food restaurant. It is definitely an adventure and worth doing. I normally eat a plant-exclusive diet limiting seeds and nuts due to their high calorie content. The "meatball" sandwich I ordered had an almond bread and nuts in other areas too it was quit good but rich and filling.
google avatar

Yelp
***update*** The owner reached out to me and confirmed they do not use cane sugar in any of their products. Yes!! Food is so delicious!!! My only issue was customer service. The owner was also so sweet and went ahead and sent me a small care package with some delicious kale chips and almond croutons!! Thank you so much!! We will be going back and forth to LA these next coming months for doctor appointments so I cannot wait to enjoy this food again

Yelp
My new go-to spot for post-DTLA fashion show munchies....IF I had to come up with a species brand of a mood for eats. Wild Living Foods is the perfect spot if you're looking for a tranquil, healthy and light, but varied and somewhat ambitious experience of menu items and an atmosphere. The restaurant itself is tucked in a corner of DTLA (parking is a nightmare, unfortunately) with bright lights displaying the name. Interior-wise, it resembles a modern diner with bright colors and plastic-sealed menus. Service here is pretty slow because a lot of menu items are freshly dehydrated and blended for optimal quality. Don't come in so starving that you'll order pizza or burgers next door (unless you want to. No judgment!). We always order a kelp noodle dish with pesto sauce or curry, a raw burger, and a myriad of other dishes. My favorite dishes are their Pad Thai with kelp noodles and their fresh spring rolls! Also no fail: we HAVE to end our meals with their coconut milk ice cream--aka the best coconut milk ice cream I've had in L.A. thus far! There are a lot of flavors to choose from and you can never get bored of their variety and how you enjoy them, like in cookie sandwiches, scoops, sundaes, or milkshakes!
google avatar

Sam M.

Yelp
Love coming here but they cater to their Togo/Delivery orders more than the actual customers who walk in and have to pay $5/hr parking. I literally waited over 30 minutes for a açaí bowl. The place is cool and food is good but coming here is not worth it.
google avatar

Eyestandout B.

Yelp
Lupe made the most amazing Grasshopper smoothie!!! She made it with love. It's sooooo tasty. This is my favorite drink

Yelp
The best!!!! We visited a couple years ago but still dream about the food! It's heaven- delicious, organic, living foods!!! Highly highly recommend

Lauren S.

Yelp
best vegan restaurant I've ever been too! everything is rich in nutrients, flavor, and always so beautiful . My favorites so far are the spicy "tuna" roll and the bbq "burger" . It's a very special restaurant and a must try if you enjoy plant based food and a healthy delicious meal.
google avatar

Brandy N.

Yelp
I'm not a vegan but I like trying to new places that being said, I wasn't really a big fan of the food. Pressed pineapple juice was good. Food did seem very fresh. The chocolate was okay. Not a big fan of the sandwich didn't really like the style of bread. They said it was a bread should have told me a cracker. Food was pretty pricey but that usually how vegan food is. Services was good lady was nice. Ambiance was very spacious and clean.

Carina J.

Yelp
great customer service Lupe was really helpful and nice will definitely be coming back
google avatar

Yani G.

Yelp
Came back here because I had business downtown and thought, "Hey! Let me try it again!" I love supporting small businesses promoting healthy living. The meal was actually better than the last time I was here so I was pleasantly surprised. However, I will NEVER return to this place. Like ever. A young woman was trying to adjust her tip (they make you pay a tip prior to dining) after she had finished her meal. There was some sort of complication that went on for at least 20 minutes. The next thing I knew a young woman who also worked there (a manager?) came out and seemed to escalate matters very quickly. She yelled at the customer and never gave her her tip back. Ridiculous. The customer called the police and eventually left after speaking with them. Upon reading so many reviews about poor customer service and knowing that many of their customers are people of color, I will not be back nor will I recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
Unbelievable! Love that everything is healthy with NO bad seed oil ALL RAW Vegan! Great friendly service with a beautiful atmosphere!

Holly S.

Yelp
Very spacious interior. Staff members polite and willing to help answer questions and make recommendations. One side of the restaurant has a counter/bar area to sit at and the other side is where salads and bowls are made. Unfortunately, I was not impressed... Bruschetta appetizer was okay. But nothing that wowed me. Needed Basil. The middle earth bowl was very bland. The falafel balls were teeny tiny, but did pack a punch of flavor... an herb/spice I couldn't quite identify. I also tried a side of the Caesar dressing and it was totally bland. Pecan pie was a generous portion, but too many raw pecans on top. The pie filling was good and so was the crust. The menu is huge, so it's hard to make a decision.
google avatar

Aashal P.

Yelp
Went on a Monday for dinner and it was empty! Alfredo pasta was all plant based and pretty impressive (and onion garlic free for my restrictions). Took a few bites to get used to the taste. Added jalapeños for some spice. Impressive extensive menu that can get pricey but nice to see so many healthy, plant based options!

Zee Z.

Yelp
Carina was at the register and gave me the best advice I've heard when ordering food. When I asked her, "what does she recommend off the 2 menus", instead of sharing her favorites, she actually shared to choose something that calls to me, because we may both have distinct taste buds. That was a fair and thoughtful answer. Thank you! I went with the Pueblo wrap and the iguana smoothie! Parking is a bit difficult and requires to pay (meter). Overall, the establishment is on the corner of Main st and 8th st; you won't miss it. Food and smoothie was A+!

Yelp
Amazing, delicious, light, healthy. My 1st time trying this place and I will definitely be back

Yelp
If you are tired of eating takeout that comes with lots of unnecessary oil... salt... whatever it is.. You need to try this spot. Fresh vegetables, no gluten, carbs, etc., their menu is amazing. Not to mention their portions are HUUUUUGE. I got their MACHU PICCU BOWL and this is probably 3.5x the SIZE of those Sweetfin poke bowls. I'm not a big eater but let me tell you, I finished every bit of it + The WARM CHIA PUDDING + a few bites of the CINNAMON ROLL (from UberEats Delivery). -The sesame sauce from the Machu Piccu Bowl is amazing. It was my first time trying Brazil Nut Cheese but damn, it's SO SO good with Quinoa.. Just get sauce on the side as it can get pretty sweet n saucy on the bottom. -Warm Chia Pudding: 10/10. Just perfect. It definitely is the best way to start/end your day. -Cinnamon Roll: 10/10. I think this restaurant is just my perfect fit. The sweet cream that comes with it was so yummy. Didn't feel guilty eating it at all. Can't wait to try other items on their menu.. Thinking of having it again for tomorrow's breakfast TBH.... To add; it IS on the pricier side. I wish I could have it everyday. But you get what you pay for. Everything is fresh. You feel GOOD & CLEAN after eating their food.

Yelp
Unfortunately after years of spending hundreds here, the customer service was the most horrible experience I've ever had... so I won't return. They have kept the manager Stephanie here and I see other customers have had similar issues with her - so I settled on the fact that I shouldn't bring my self or friends/family here again since the owners haven't remedied the way she treats their customers. I came to bring a family member here to eat and spent a very good amount. The new hostess hadn't been trained and my food was missing the 3$(!!) avocado. Upon inspection I realized I had accidentally tipped 21$ as well since you tip using the digital machine before you get your food (I used Apple Pay). I went to ask for a refund for 24$ and since the hostess was new it took about 20 minutes for her to have a response. In this time my phone had died. She showed me receipts on her app and told me she didn't know which was mine (she never offered a receipt, but she was working alone with limited training and doing her best). We found the receipt that matched the money I spent, but the card number did not match mine. Since my phone had died I asked for a cash refund. This is when she called the manager Stephanie who came up and began interrupting me and insisting that they could not refund my money or ensure that the money goes to my card. She then began yelling, calling me a weirdo. I asked her if she could just let me speak with the waitress instead to escalate the situation, but she insisted that this restaurant is hers and she wouldn't leave the area I was seated at. This was quite crazy to me paired with her calling me out of my name. I ended up having to call the police and follow up with my bank over this which is so unfortunate given that the situation could've been settled quickly and politely without the escalation Stephanie added. This restaurant banks on their customer base being made up of people of color, but if you do not want to have to deal with police and a young woman insulting you while holding onto your money, I would go to one of the many other raw vegan restaurants in LA (same price point but you will actually get customer service along with it - you won't have to fetch your own water or order like you're at a cafeteria for a 100$+ meal). All I was asking for was my money back from an overtipping mistake and an item I never received (the waitress saw I had no avocado and agreed I should get a refund, she tried her best). So sad to have to leave this review as I wanted wild living foods to be a lovely place for people like me!

Yelp
God the food is divine! However, upon driving 30 mins on my birthday, the guy behind the counter told us they are only serving salads and bowls, otherwise we would have to wait over an hour and take it to go, due to how they prioritize to go orders over the people that come to the actual restaurant. It made me never want to come back, which is sad because I love this place and it is so dear to my heart. Not sure I will ever risk the drive and time to come here again.

Yelp
Hello I saw Tabitha Brown promote this restaurant, so I am planning on visiting. I live in the Santa Clarita Valley and looking forward to taking that hour drive. As I am reading reviews, there was one review that caught my attention. Its the couple who's from Vegas and ate 2 desserts. I need clarification from the owner who by the way didn't reply back Do you use cane sugar or not? I want to believe that was an error on the part of the worker? Please advise Thanks

Yelp
I finally got down to DTLA to check this place out! It was amazing! Not busy at all for a Saturday night. I had the BBQ chorizo burger (I'd give it an 8) and the Egg rolls were a 10! Service and atmospheric were great too!

Yelp
Amazing, clean food/service. Rich is an incredible human. Wild Foods catered an event to be compliant for healing & knocked it out of the park!

Yelp
Food is amazing. Everything I've had here has been delicious so far. The Peace Pasta and the Jalapeño Poppers are my favorite. Can't wait to try out more stuff. Their drinks are delicious too. The desserts are good enough to satisfy that craving, depends on what you like. It seemed pricey at first but you get a good portion anyway. Service was good too! Ordered off Uber eats, they didn't have the drink I ordered so they called me to replace it for any other one I wanted. Would recommend :)

Yelp
There's truly no words that can encapsulate every single time I come here to grab food. The service is phenomenal everyone is so welcoming and kind. What truly sets this establishment apart is the quality of the food. Every single ingredient is natural, organic, and healthy. Forget Erewhon this place is superior. I value eating food that is gluten free and organic, Wild Living Foods does that precisely. I appreciate also how late they stay open as well, they close at 11 which is amazing when you've had a fun night at the club and want to indulge in a sweet treat (their ice cream is phenomenal). I really wish to meet the owner one day as I would "wildly" love to show my gratitude towards this restaurant. Don't skip out on the brazilian latte!

Yelp
Flavor 4.5/5 - I really enjoyed every dish here, and I would come back based on the flavor. Price 3/5 - It was reallyyyyyy expensive. I do not go to LA very often, so I'm not sure if this price point is standard here. I think the portion size was okay but relatively small, considering the price. Quality 5/5 - They cook w/ quality oils and use 100% organic ingredients. No complaints! Service 5/5 - Our order came out quickly, and the servers who took my order were kind and easygoing. Ambiance: Casual, healthy, & comfortable.

Yelp
Haven't tried the food yet but it looks really original and good. Nut based hippie vegan gluten free food. The desserts are fantastic, really great and low sugar.

Yelp
Organic raw and gluten-free!!! I had grasshopper smoothie, onion rings with dip and jalapeño burger...so tasty so spicy loved all of it and wish I could order more things off the menu before I leave town. Also got some dessert to go...

Yelp
Who is so good? I've had her two smoothies and I love coming here for the quinoa salad. I tried ice creams are all pretty good. It taste like coconut service. It's fast, but it can get a little busy in there ambience they have the cutest vegan bar. I love it here.

Yelp
This was my first time to the restaurant despite living a block away. I loved the food! I'm definitely NOT a vegan or even a vegetarian but I loved this and how delicious and filling it was. I waited 25 minutes for the order and I'm confused by how the kitchen prioritizes in-house orders but the young man behind the counter was very sweet and I will most definitely be back! I cooked three eggs to supplement the meal and it was sheer perfection!

Yelp
On my raw food cleanse, so you know I had to stop by. Love coming here for the pastas and trying something new each time. So I got my usual Supreme which is basically spaghetti and meatballs plus my first time trying the rad thai. Was with my brother and he got the Mahalo pizza and the warm chia porridge. If you've never had it, everyone always loves the porridge, you can't go wrong with it. Same with the supreme. I recommend also adding the garlic bread, you'll be hella surprised. I need to figure out how they create those meatballs. Didn't really care for the rad thai. It was good, just call it something else. I know it's raw, but my tastebuds were expecting something else.

Yelp
I ordered twice with Post-mates. The first time I ordered the moon pie and the cinnamon roll. The moon pie didn't taste like the moon pie I'm used to. I guess because they use coconut instead of vegan marshmallows. It tasted more like a coconut chocolate bar than a moon pie. The cinnamon roll did not look like the picture. I only received the cake/cinnamon roll with no icing and walnut toppings. I received only a bare cinnamon roll. I was confused because it looked different on the site. I ordered again and it was a better experience. I ordered the bbq chorizo burger. It was very tasty. I was not expecting it was going to be that tasty. It had layers of flavors in every bite. The downside is the price. It's a little on the expensive side to only be the burger with no sides. I will definitely go visit the location and experience the service and the ambiance of the restaurant.
