"In what can feel like a steak-and-potatoes town, Written By The Seasons makes the case for Dallas as a pan-seared-branzino-and-radicchio-salad kind of place. A bright and airy Bishop Arts staple that just opened a second branch Uptown, Written goes heavy on the veg, whether that’s roasted, tossed in a salad, or blended into a soup. The bread is some of the best on either side of the Trinity, including a cherry tomato-studded focaccia and a zingy sourdough. Dunk the latter into the briny, red orange broth beneath a heap of Dutch Acadian mussels." - rosin saez, nick rallo, kevin gray, kevin gray, kevin gray, rosin saez, nick rallo, nick rallo, rosin saez, rosin saez, nick rallo, rosin saez, nick rallo, nick rallo, rosin saez, nick rallo, rosin saez, rosin saez, nick rallo, rosin saez, rosin saez, nick rallo, nick rallo, rosin saez, nick rallo, rosin saez, nick rallo
"A Michelin-recognized, Eater Awards–winning restaurant ideal for lingering with a bottle from a curated wine list while people-watching from tables behind fold-up windows adjacent to an open plaza. The menu accommodates gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan diets, and the house focaccia (based on a recipe from a co-owner’s younger sister) is a requisite order. The space emphasizes family stories—portraits and dishes inspired by family recipes are featured on the back wall." - Courtney E. Smith
"Eater Dallas’s Best New Restaurant winner in the 2022 Eater Awards has finally (finally) added brunch to its line-up. Expect more of the seasonal fare it serves for dinner with a brunchy twist, like local sourdough with jam, baked eggs in spicy tomato sauce, an egg sandwich with bacon and gruyére, and steak and eggs with steak sourced from 44 Farms. It also offers a mimosa flight — best enjoyed near the huge windows in the front of the restaurant while people watching. Parking in this neighborhood can be tricky in the evenings, but at brunch, street parking is usually easier to find. Brunch is also on offer at its newer location in Uptown." - Courtney E. Smith
"There is no better spot for people-watching in the neighborhood than at a table in the front part of Written by the Seasons, which has front sliding doors that span the entire length of this restaurant. Grab one of these star tables and experience the indoor/outdoor life at our Eater Award winner for Best New Restaurant in 2022. The menu changes seasonally, but mainstays, like the fresh-baked sourdough bread and seasonal cheese board, are always a delight. Written is also a solid spot for vegetarians. Most items on the menu can be made without meat, and gluten-free and vegan options are also available." - Courtney E. Smith
"Bishop Arts has become a favorite neighborhood for Dallasites to explore, and this American bistro is one of the best people-watching restaurants in the area. It’s also one of the Michelin Guide’s recommended stops in town. This spring, take advantage of its menu of shareable dishes, impeccable wine list, and as many cocktails as you can handle while watching the crowds amble by in the indoor-outdoor dining area that’s set back from Davis Street. The house focaccia stuffed with seasonal vegetables inspired by a recipe from the owner’s sister is a good starter. On a recent visit, the cheese and meat plate with pickled vegetables and honey-coated notes showcased the restaurant’s seasonal best. It was also the Eater Award Winner for Best New Restaurant in 2022. Know before you go: The restaurant opened a second location in Uptown this year, so perhaps it is closer to you?" - Courtney E.
