6 Former Train Stations That Are Now Hotels - AFAR

"Once the largest train station in the world when it opened in 1894, this landmark’s restored Grand Hall stuns with a 65-foot-high barrel-vaulted ceiling, art nouveau mosaics, a 70-foot white-marble-topped bar, original terrazzo floor, and a large Tiffany glass window depicting three women representing New York City, St. Louis, and San Francisco. The space pairs historic grandeur with contemporary touches like an evening light show and a lounge serving local artisan cheeses and microbrews. After a $150 million renovation the complex now houses nearly 600 rooms and suites (including stays in the 280-foot clock tower), shops, restaurants, an outdoor pool, and the St. Louis Aquarium, with modern suites decorated with vintage railroad photographs and posters." - Pat Tompkins
