So when I arrived at Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse in Dunsborough, to find the shortest lighthouse I've ever seen -- I didn't understand how it could possibly do the job required of such a structure. It turns out, Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is an engineering marvel in a way. Sitting very high above the ocean on a limestone cliff's edge, just at the right spot, its light reaches all the way to horizon in every pertinent direction. It has been doing this since it was erected in 1903. At its highest point, it is 123 metres above sea level. The guided tour of the lighthouse is worth every penny if you're a fan of maritime history or Geographe Bay. Also, it allows you access up into the lighthouse whereas merely exploring the area will not afford you that opportunity."
