"Set in a white farmhouse in Big Baddeck on Cape Breton Island, this 16-seat, home-based restaurant is run by chef Bryan Picard and his partner Marie Isabelle and operates a few days a week from May to December with a single seating for a nine-course tasting. The tiny, slightly under-equipped kitchen (a four-burner electric stove, no dishwasher) and a small crew including Picard’s father produce intensely local, seasonal food built around garden-grown and foraged ingredients supplied by neighbors and regional producers; standout moments described include halibut cheek with ginger mint, birch-smoked mussels with fava beans and sea parsley, house sourdough served with butter and bee pollen, a braised pork shoulder with buttered chanterelles and red currants, and a lemon balm ice cream finished with toasted meringue.
