Katy Trail (Dallas)

"Let’s start big picture here. This scenic paved trail runs a little more than three miles, from American Airlines Center near downtown all the way up toward Southern Methodist University's campus at the north. The trail is protected from traffic and shaded in most places, making it a perfect spot for jogging, cycling, rollerblading, and more. What's it best for? The old railway is a retreat amid the somewhat overdeveloped downtown and Uptown areas. In the summer, you'll want to hit the trail early to avoid the heat of the day, but if you need to get a workout in and don't want to stare at the TV in a hotel gym , there are few better places. Is it easy to navigate? The trail is a straight shot, north and south, with several different access points along the way. There are water fountains for you and your canine friends, and bikes are available for rent. All said and done, how does it fit into a visit to Dallas? The Katy Trail is a nice way to traverse this little pocket of Dallas if you don't mind working up a sweat." - Laura Ratliff
