Kiddy Land

Toy store · Shibuya

"Head to Omotesando Road in Harajuku for five floors of tax-free toy shopping pandemonium. While Kiddy Land dates back to 1950, the collection has evolved with the times and now stocks everything from old-school puzzles to über-cutesy Sanrio swag. Even if you’re short on luggage space, Kiddy Land makes for a fun detour after exploring the human carnival of Takeshita Street. Visiting can be a hectic experience, but even a few minutes here is enough to make most kids’ eyes pop. Although you’ll find familiar faces from the Marvel and Star Wars universes, the emphasis here is on stuffed and plastic renditions of the Japanese entertainment industry’s heavy-hitters. Pokémon, Sailor Moon, Hello Kitty, and the whole Studio Ghibli crew are all present, making the nostalgia-factor high for millennial parents. Everything is out in the open, but take some time to poke around the nooks and crannies in each room. If you can pry your eyes from the wall of jumbo Kumamon bears, there are plenty of quirkier finds." - Diana Hubbell
