"What was your first impression? In a city where everything is shiny and never-ending new construction, The Dunhill flaunts its landmark status and rich history. Step inside an intimate lobby, where yellow walls and traditional furnishings lend inviting warmth. What's the backstory? The privately owned Dunhill is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. It opened right before the stock market crash in 1929 and has ridden the ups and downs ever since. How are the rooms?Recently renovated, the rooms seamlessly blend tradition with modernity. There is a crisp look and feel, courtesy of navy blue statement walls and intriguing (and colorful) artwork juxtaposed with traditional carpets and furnishings.  Is there a charge for Wi-Fi?Wi-Fi is free. What are our dining options? The Asbury, the hotel’s destination restaurant. The look is fresh and airy, with windows overlooking the street and for-sale local art hanging on the walls. The menu riffs on Southern traditions—sweet potato and poppy seed pancakes in the morning, sticky biscuits with goat cheese icing at night. Sunday brunch is packed. How's the service? The service is warm and caring, with unusual niceties like freshly baked cookies every afternoon and a wine social on Wednesdays. Be sure to catch a ride in the hotel's authentic London cab. What's the crowd like? You won't find anyone checking in here just to snap selfies. Instead, The Dunhill attracts grown-ups who prefer substance over style, ones who seek comfort and quality above trends. What's in the neighborhood? The hotel is one block from the Blumenthal Center for the Performing Arts. Anything else we should know? There's no on-site gym, but guests have free access to the nearby YMCA. What's the bottom line? This is a lovely historic alternative in a city known for big, new hotels." - Nancy DePalma
