Wynn Macau

"With its signature upturned roof, the Wynn Macau looks just like its Las Vegas sister but inside the dark tinted glass clad exterior, China’s newly rich fill the 100,000 square foot casino and even the substantial no-smoking section called Red 8, stationing themselves around the clock at the 380 slot machines plus blackjack, roulette and fan-tan tables, an ancient Chinese game. Tea service and a dim sum dominated food court are tasty touches. To avoid the on-going mad dash of gamblers, take a taxi from the Macao ferry terminal rather than the resort’s free shuttle bus. English skills are limited throughout the hotel except at the restaurants but guestrooms are ample and luxuriously appointed in an elegant manner that recalls American resorts of yesteryear thanks to floral covered couches, saffron hued fabrics and high beds embellished with comfy pillow tops. Andy Warhol’s day-glow flower prints and generous flat screen televisions manage not to clash with the classic. Expansive bathrooms have plenty of room for a shower with bench, two sinks and a deep soak bathtub ideal for Wynn’s lemongrass citrus bubble bath. Shoppers cruise the lobby, past life size cloisonné camels, into Chanel, Prada and especially Louis Vuitton or to pet the faux crocodile walls alongside the in house Rolex outlet. The spa offers a luxurious Golden Fortune bath meant to increase the odds but even though who don’t win big can enjoy the reasonably priced abundant breakfast buffet in the lobby café. The one hour ferry ride from Hong Kong makes this an ideal weekend jaunt even for short stay business travelers. Those who wish to venture beyond the property can explore Macao’s Portuguese heritage or shop for Chinese antiques but most Wynn guests will only walk outside the hotel to get a better view of the unexpectedly entertaining performance lake which springs to life nightly."
