"Established in 1919, Silva & Feijóo is a landmark Lisbon brand dreamed up by two merchants with rope-making roots. There are three locations of this grocery, but the original, close to Casa dos Bicos, the literary museum honoring Jose Saramago in Alfama, has an especially lovely old-fashioned façade with gilded accents and large windows showcasing a swath of foodstuffs. Inside you’ll find old stone walls, which provide a dramatic backdrop to numerous varieties of Portugal’s beloved tinned sardines, olive oils, bottles of tawny Port, homey jars of tomato preserves, and bags of crunchy biscuits." - Alia Akkam
