"So, what's your first impression of this place? The Corner Townhouse feels like a different kind of Rome—perhaps the Rome of a century ago, the Rome before the crowds. The private, Liberty-era townhouse, platformed above the shops in the quiet Aventino neighborhood, feels like a relic from another era—and at once glance, you'll gamely be keen to take a trip back in time. What's the vibe, exactly? In Rome, we call this a chicca: a charming cozy gem of a spot. The Corner Townhouse is privately owned and has a fervently independent personality. And who tends to stay here?Quiet travelers who want privacy. No one wants to be seen, and neither do you. Now tell us about the digs: What do they look like? With colorful wood paneling painted the perfect blue-green, our Junior Suite was cozy through and through, with a dreamy bed and a sumptuous all-white bathroom. The Suite Royal, meanwhile, is a highest-floor room with a curved floor-to-ceiling window on one side and a Roman-style inset bathtub on the opposite balcony. How's the Wi-Fi?The Wi-Fi is free and fast. What's the dining and drinking scene like? The property has a Michelin-starred restaurant, a lounge bar, and a gorgeous garden terrace, all helmed by chef Marco Martini. How's the service? The service is friendly and efficient. There's a sense of home here. Where is the hotel located? Anything fun in the area? This is Aventine minor, a quiet hill in a residential neighborhood in Rome. Don't let the location fool you, though; you're within walking distance to the Colosseum and Palatine hill, as well as the vibrant Testaccio neighborhood. What would you change?Absolutely nothing. Any standout features we haven't asked about? You're right near the Circo Massimo and the Baths of Caracalla, which are both important archaeological sites—and great places for outdoor workouts. So why's this hotel worth the price of admission? The Corner Townhouse has the trifecta of great design, privacy, and price." - Erica Firpo
