"First impression? This drinking den, hidden behind a heavy wooden door with just a street number ( ocho-siete-ocho ) for a name, started out as a speakeasy in Villa Crespo. But like with any good secret, word spread about the cool room with high ceilings, exposed brick walls, and delicious cocktails made by mixologists dressed in old-fashioned vests and neckties. 878 may no longer be an underground bar but that's okay. The mood hasn't changed and the cocktails are just as tasty. Cool. So who’s there? Villa Crespo is hipster central and those who end up at 878 fit the part so well, they might be extras in a Sofia Coppola flick. How are the drinks? The cocktails are almost too pretty to drink. But drink them anyway. The good thing about 878 is that it's so dimly lit, instead of taking Instagram pics, you're actually enjoying the music and conversation. Worth ordering something to eat, too? You'll find a small but good menu of classic Argentine dishes, like spinach fritters and goat cheese provoleta, which hit the spot if you're out drinking until 2 a.m.. Did the staff do you right? Some of the friendliest bartenders in town. They chit chat if there's time, make recommendations if you ask, and they're easy on the eyes. Wrap it up: what are we coming here for?
