Gramercy Park Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival? It's all about maximalism here, where artist Julian Schnabel has created a fantasy land in crimson, velvet, leather, and wood. Dimly lit and tucked on a quiet corner across from Gramercy Park, it's kind of like an abstract painting come to life: it's anything but boring. What’s the crowd like? It's been a celeb hangout since opening in 2006, and the person you think looks like that singer, actress or model probably actually is that person. Most importantly: Tell us about your room. The term "haute bohemian" was made for the rooms here, swathed in color, with red sofas, drapes, carpet, and bed frame, and walls of pale blue and green. It's all incredibly romantic—or a bit over-the-top, depending on your affection for neutrals. It's not for everyone, but if you're willing to have an open mind when it comes to bold design, it's a lot of fun. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The pillow-top mattresses make for a sound night of sleep. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? The details lie in the fabrics, the drapes, the rugs—the surroundings are opulent and luxurious, and when you're here, you just want to soak it all in.Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. It's a beautiful bathroom, clad in dark oak with a wide marble sink and spacious shower. Best of all? The amenities are by Aesop. We all need Wi-Fi. What’s the word on that here?Fast, free Wi-Fi.Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Guests get access to the most exclusive patch of greenery in Manhattan, Gramercy Park itself (local residents are otherwise the only ones with keys to the gate). What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? It's the sense that you're staying at a hotel unlike anywhere in New York among some of the most discerning people in the world.Bottom line: worth it, and why? It's that rare hotel that has everything: a world famous artist-conceived interior, one of the sexiest bars in Manhattan (and Maialino, one of the city's best Italian restaurants), and, maybe best of all, keys to the ultra-exclusive Gramercy Park." - John Wogan
