"I visited the Quill Room on the second floor of 600 West Second Street and found an Old World European salon–style cocktail bar designed by Kelly Wearstler, with warm woods and metals inspired by the 1920s, a gold wall piece from the designer’s archives, vintage furniture sourced from the 1960s–1990s, and even an upright self-playing piano. The French-ish cocktail menu highlights the Love Letter (elderflower liqueur, prosecco, sparkling water, and edible flowers), the La Vie en Rose (jalapeño-infused mezcal, Lillet Rosé blanc, Del Maguey crema de mezcal, and rose water), and the Bourdeaux Sour (bourbon, Bordeaux wine, lemon, egg whites, and bitters), alongside classics from vodka or gin to a stirred Vesper and an espresso martini, plus a nonalcoholic Le Jardin made with Seedlip Garden 108. Beers include two options from Austin’s Pinthouse Brewing plus national selections, wines cover the typical go-to regions, and food offerings are snacks and small plates such as a foie gras custard with radishes and salted lavash, Gulf shrimp cocktails, and a salad. The bar technically debuted in January 2023, opened to public seatings in the spring with final design details completed in June, operates Wednesday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to midnight, offers indoor and outdoor seating, takes online reservations, and reserves a portion of bookings for hotel guests and residents." - Nadia Chaudhury
