"Set in a jug-shaped Roseway building built in the 1920s, I see this landmark reinvented as a neighborhood watering hole that opens Monday, January 29. The space has a long history — originally a luncheonette and filling station and most recently a strip club for four decades — and the new owners, Warren Boothby and Marcus Archambeault (the team behind recent revivals like Holman’s, the Vern, and Sandy Hut), admit “the place had been in rough shape.” They also lean into the building’s past with a cheeky homage to the defunct Pirate’s Cove, converting a former changing area into a sitting room styled as a “gaudy French boudoir” complete with a vanity and chandelier. The tavern’s menu focuses on fried bar standards plus burgers and sandwiches, including a cheese-stuffed Jucy Lucy and a chopped cheese, and drinks range from beer to cocktails such as the Roseway sour finished with a Dubonnet float. As a fun touch, patrons named Sandy get their first drink on the house. The Sandy Jug Tavern will open at 7417 NE Sandy Boulevard." - Janey Wong
