"I'm excited that Marufuku has secured a space in Temescal and will open at 4828 Telegraph Avenue (the former home of Hina Yakitori, beside Temescal’s dive bar The Avenue), with a sign announcing a February 28 opening; the restaurant’s Instagram theatrically promises a “ramen revolution,” calling #ramenlovers to action. Since Marufuku first opened in 2017 in the Japantown mall (1581 Webster Suite 235), it has drawn an enthusiastic following for its Hakata ramen — a thick milky tonkotsu pork broth that the restaurant says takes 20 hours to develop — and it also serves a limited number of chicken paitan bowls as well as izakaya-style appetizers like chicken karaage and takoyaki. According to licensing documents, Marufuku is part of Eiichi Mochizuki’s restaurant group, though a representative emphasizes that Marufuku’s chef and ramen are “totally separate” from Mochizuki’s Shabuway operations." - Caleb Pershan
