"Opening its first East Coast outpost this month at North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose development, Baked Bear — founded by childhood friends Rob Robbins and Shane Stanger that got its start in a San Diego strip mall in 2013 — will open Saturday, May 19 at 929 Rose Avenue. The new 900-square-foot shop will serve fresh-baked cookies, doughnuts, and brownies combined with ice cream and assorted toppings, and offers a rotating “cookie of the month” (Mexican hot chocolate in May and Reese’s Cup cashew in June). The brand has been expanding into Austin and other states, though a spokesperson says no details are currently available about additional area locations. A grand opening party is scheduled for 1 p.m. on May 19 with free ice cream sandwiches for the first 300 people in line plus other goodies." - Tierney Plumb
