"Closed on Sunday, February 2, 2025 after 10 years in business, this Hollywood rooftop bar, restaurant and hotel opened in 2015 and rose to popularity for its highly Instagrammable sweeping views of Los Angeles—especially of the Hollywood Hills—its bright-colored seating, and a cozy interior where there was often a good chance of spotting a celebrity. Alongside the bar and restaurant, the hotel in the same building is now closed; the rooftop’s closure was announced in an Instagram post on February 3, thanking the team and guests for the last decade. A statement on the property's website reads, “From February 2nd, 2025, [this property] will no longer operate as a Mama Shelter branded property.” An additional statement provided to Eater LA says, “After 10 unforgettable years, the property has closed its doors. We are deeply grateful to our guests, team, and the vibrant local community who made this location so special.” The brand’s origins and signature design are noted: the first Mama Shelter was opened by Serge Trigano and his sons Jérémie and Benjamin in Paris in 2008, expanded throughout France including Marseille, Lyon, and Bordeaux, and opened its first and only U.S. location in Hollywood in 2015; the brand’s signature quirky and colorful design is recognizable across locations with unique statement lighting, large communal gathering spaces, and design touches tailored to each city. In recent years Hollywood’s rooftop nightlife expanded with new hotspots like Bar Lis, Desert 5 Spot, Mother Tongue, Lemon Grove, and Grandmaster Records; there is no indication yet of what the building will become next, though the brand is planning on opening a new location in Downtown LA. Their site copy adds: “More than simply rooms or restaurants, [the brand] is a living and meeting space, a true urban refuge that s not just beautiful, modern and lively but also popular, friendly and sexy. Curl up on our sofas and savour our sharing plates, enjoy a drink andrelax, you can sleep like a baby.....”" - Rebecca Roland
