"I report that two livestock guard dogs escaped from Stone Barns, a non-profit farm adjacent to Blue Hill, in February; they injured a local Westchester woman and killed her poodle, leading a judge to order the dogs euthanized. Stone Barns has filed an appeal that will stay that euthanasia order pending an appeals-court decision. The poodle’s owner, Yong Ging Qian, was described as being "severely" injured — allegedly with a mangled hand, several broken ribs, brain hemorrhaging and a mild heart attack — and is reportedly considering suing the farm. A Stone Barns spokesman defended the program, saying that "that two of our dogs had a first-of-its-kind incident after 20 years does not reflect on the broader safety of our guardian dog and livestock program" and that, to the contrary, it shows how safe the dogs they put into service are. The episode follows a 2022 Eater report that looked into alleged dysfunction at Stone Barns." - Emma Orlow
