"Though Youji Iwakura’s ambitious and beautiful downtown restaurant Kamakura closed in 2020, he’s back in a big way. Washoku Renaissance started as a ghost kitchen and popup, and now he brings his omakase experience to the Foundation Kitchen within the Graphic Lofts in Charlestown in the form of an eight-seat “speakeasy.” Think of the experience as a supper club focused on food — you’ll dine for about an hour and chat with the chef afterwards — rather than a drawn-out meal. Some pricing varies (and check out takeout options and occasional collaborations, too) but the experience usually involves a sip of soup, and appetizer, nine pieces of nigiri sushi and one handroll for $95. A $20 deposit is required at the time of booking and beverages are not included." - Nathan Tavares, Samantha Maxwell, Eater Staff
