"Celebrating 10 years as a seasonal favorite for iced snow cones, I've watched Purple Penguin expand from four local shacks and now move into a Water Street storefront at 129 Water St.; the kid-friendly restaurant will add a walk-up window for grab-and-go orders and indoor seating, joining the current dining-and-bar boom on Henderson’s Water Street and sitting directly across from the Rainbow Club & Casino. Normally open only from April through September, it’s unknown whether this location will become a year-round attraction. Purple Penguin currently operates two shacks in Henderson and two in Las Vegas, each open daily from noon to 8 p.m. (until 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday), serving dozens of flavors that can be topped with cream or vanilla ice cream; they roll out limited-time “feature flavors” on Fridays and offer a handful of sugar-free choices, with less common creations such as the strawberry-and-coconut Tiger’s Blood, wedding cake, Red Bull, pink cotton candy, red velvet cake, and a light peach Fuzzy Navel." - Bradley Martin
