"A Guatemalan bakery and sweet shop established in 1974 is making its U.S. debut in Uptown, occupying an expansive space at 3120 McKinney Avenue redesigned by Coeval Studio, which added a living wall of ferns. With nearly 40 locations across Guatemala and El Salvador, the bakery is best known for French breads and pastries — including savory empanadas, palmeritas (palmiers), and flaky pastelitos filled with guava and other fillings — as well as cakes, pies, cookies and a selection of coffee drinks. It also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner cafe-style fare like sandwiches. After a months-long delay, the Dallas outpost opened this week and is now open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m." - Amy McCarthy
