"You’ll probably notice that this place is packed with students, and that’s because the dishes at each table are enormous. Extra-large bento boxes, mountainous plates of yan su ji Taiwanese-style fried chicken, giant bowls of soup noodles. There’s quality to go along with quantity at Miss Mike: It’s the all-too-rare combination of economical and actually good. Excellent, in fact. The pork belly bento features heartbreakingly tender pork, extra savory in a soy sauce–based marinade. There’s rich beef shank bento, even richer Taiwanese sausage bento, and the Taiwanese Railroad bento is a version of the pork cutlet that is the most popular item on Taiwanese trains. Each bento is served with five-spice minced pork and rice, soy-marinated egg, and a rotating array of sides such as potato and carrot curry, tomato egg, and green salad. There are lids for the trays over by the condiment station so you can take your leftovers home — and you will have leftovers." - Mark DeJoy, Eater Staff
