"Though Northern Virginia is not lacking in Asian grocery options, the debut of this Japanese-focused one in January got plenty of attention. Crowds are still causing hour-plus waits in the cafe and cashier lines that snake around the entire store on weekends. The move is to go on a weekday; there was no wait for the cafe at 11:15 a.m. on a recent Monday morning (though the restaurant was already out of croquettes and karaage). The reward for patience and planning: an excellent version of Japanese curry, with depth of flavor and a juicy pork cutlet atop it. There are other donburi such as gyudon and oyakudon. The market also makes excellent takeout onigiri in a variety of flavors (try the ume and shrimp tempura, to start), and better-than-average grocery store sushi (not surprising when they have chefs slicing sashimi grade tuna in front of spectators)." - Missy Frederick
