"Housed in a repurposed 20-foot by 8-foot shipping container inside a storefront adjacent to the Breakfast Republic in the East Village, I found Eggies perfectly tailored for takeout. Its walk-up window is open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering a grab-and-go menu of breakfast sandwiches served on brioche buns that start with an over-medium egg; choices range from a classic combo with sausage, bacon, and cheese to the “What Came First?” that tops the egg with fried chicken and house pickles. Other quick-service bites include jars layered with French toast or a savory potato hash and churros with caramel sauce, and drinks include coffee, Bloody Marys, and mimosas. A second Eggies is planned for Pacific Beach directly outside the Breakfast Republic on Mission Boulevard, and founder Johan Engman plans to eventually open more outposts around San Diego." - Candice Woo
