"I tried the American Surrealist at Zero Cafe + Bar, a reimagined whiskey sour dreamed up by bartender Charlie Bolin to echo Richard Hagerty’s vibrant work; Bolin blends Bulleit rye, fresh-squeezed lemon, a lavender simple syrup, a few dashes of Bittermen’s orange bitters, and a bit of liquid salt solution, then adds an egg white (which he dry shakes to froth before shaking with ice) to mellow the sour and unify the drink, and finally floats Cabernet Sauvignon on top to give the cocktail the same visual punch as Hagerty’s paintings." - Eater Staff
