"After a brief closure for maintenance and repairs, I learned Paulie Gee’s in Greenpoint will reopen in early March with reservations, new late-night hours, a bigger menu, and—for the first time—a beer-and-shot deal. Dylan Schwartz, a longtime employee at the Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop, is taking over day-to-day operations and wants the restaurant to be more than just pizza, so the menu will add meatballs, arancini, and Mike’s Hot Honey chicken wings alongside the soups, salads, and desserts that were already offered. The space was renovated during the closure and the bar will be run by Sal Fristensky and Bill Mack (of Skinny Dennis, Rocka Rolla, and Lucky Dog); the plan is to operate as a pizzeria from 5 to 11 p.m. and then turn into a live-music bar from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. Founder Paul Giannone will remain involved but is stepping back to focus on his dozen or so slice shops in other cities, including Columbus, Chicago, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, with plans for Manhattan and New Orleans." - Luke Fortney
