"Despite today’s absurd pizza prices, even a 16-inch pie that runs up to $33 feels worth it after the first bite. By the slice, the sweet sausage ($6) with ricotta cream, mozzarella, crumbled sausage, soppressata, red onion, and a finish of Calabrian honey hits a balanced sweet-and-hearty note, while the caccio e pepe ($4.50) with ricotta cream, mozzarella, black pepper, and Grana Padano is an indulgent, vegetarian-friendly riff on cheese pizza. For a whole pie, the sampler lets me build a six-slice Franken-pie; pep & pepp ($6) or tomato tomatoe ($4) scratch that familiar, classroom–pizza-party itch. I like to round things out with the cold brew affogato to fight the carb slump. Both locations are casual and perfect for sunny, lazy afternoons: the Hyde Park shop—once a post office and next to First Light Books, a thoughtfully curated indie bookstore and coffee shop—reads retro and sleek; the Tarrytown spot shares space with Flo’s Wine Bar & Bottle Shop and has a gorgeous patio covered in greenery. Insider tip: ask if the off-menu pickle pizza is on—ricotta cream, mozzarella, garlic, fresh dill, and, of course, pickles—like a fried pickle in pizza form, bursting with sour flavor." - H.
