"Nashville diners can expect over-the-top milkshakes, bougie burgers, and a craft-beer program when Black Tap opens a 130-seat restaurant at 211 Commerce Street in November 2022. Burgers will range from a $17 All-American to the $22 Mulberry Street (a prime beef patty with provolone, hot cherry peppers, prosciutto, soppressata, and parmigiano-reggiano); chicken sandwiches start at $18 and a half-dozen wings, Korean barbecue or Nashville hot, are $16. Still, the star will be the elaborate, picture-worthy shakes — "crazy," $17 versions like a cotton candy strawberry shake with a blue-and-pink pearl chocolate rim topped with a lollipop, rock candy, and cotton candy, and the Cakeshake served with a funfetti cake slice, rainbow sprinkles, and a cherry — which helped make the brand famous in New York and can be upgraded with alcohol. Owners Chris Barish and Julie Mulligan plan to incorporate Nashville-specific food and drink specials and bring in local craft brews; the chain, founded by Barish in 2015 and known for fancy wagyu burgers and perhaps the “most Instagrammed milkshake ever,” has expanded globally but also faced disputes, including a settled $25 million lawsuit and a former employee's claim to the milkshake's creation." - Clair Lorell
