"After briefly opening in fall 2020, Surdyk’s Sidebar has reopened with a new chef, new menu, and a dining room designed for the new dining realities. The dining room, designed by Shea, offers a comfortable amount of space facing Hennepin Avenue and a whole front window that can roll back to bring fresh air in and give diners views of the lively thoroughfare. In the kitchen is Randall Prudden, a Chicago native who spent time at Alinea and Next and later worked for Gavin Kaysen at Spoon and Stable before relocating to Northeast Minneapolis; he joined Sidebar when both he and the restaurant were looking for new opportunities nearer his home. The menu is built for both casual get-togethers and romantic nights, with snacks such as green garlic fritters with a creamy dipping sauce or cheese curds with hot honey, mains like a New York Strip with black garlic sauce, and even a Minnesota cheeseburger. Dinner hours are currently limited to Wednesday through Sunday, with some brunch-like dishes available Friday through Sunday, and reservations are available for inside seats and patio tables (which have heaters)." - Joy Summers
