From-Scratch Gelato Shop Opens on Adams Avenue - Eater San Diego
"A longtime Adams Avenue business has been resurrected with a tastier purpose. An’s Dry Cleaning, which occupied the storefront between Hawthorn Coffee and Tajima Ramen for more that a decade, has reopened under new proprietors as a small batch gelato shop. Founded by four longtime friends, one of whom is a gelato maker with over ten years experience in Europe, the 800-square-foot store pays homage to its previous function in its art deco design, created in collaboration with Keenan Hartsten of ffiisshh, that includes neon, formica, hanging racks, and iron-shaped napkin holders. The theme is reflected in the menu too, where its rotating roster of 13 flavors will all be named after fabrics. Served out of a Pozzetti case, which helps to preserve the gelato’s freshness, the from-scatch flavors draw reference from global dishes as well as local farmer’s market produce; the opening lineup includes the horchata-inspired Cotton and a vegan strawberry-ginger gelato called Chiffon. An’s Dry Cleaning encourages sampling of every flavor, offering an off-menu palate cleanser before taking customers through a progressive tasting. The shop will also offer gelato cakes, decorated with elaborate fruit carvings. Hours of operation are seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, with possible extended hours on Friday and Saturday nights.
