"I learned that a cult-favorite salad chain known for its completely customizable salads and bowls, Sweetgreen, will open its first Dallas location at 3636 McKinney Avenue in Uptown later this year. Founded in Washington, D.C. in 2007, Sweetgreen expanded to Texas in 2019 with a Houston location and opened its first Austin outpost in 2020. In the McKinney Avenue scratch kitchen, the chain plans to prepare and serve salads and grain bowls made with produce sourced from local farms; beyond customizable salads and menu favorites like the garden cobb salad, the menu features a crispy rice bowl with blackened chicken, lots of veggies, and spicy cashew dressing, as well as the “Shroomami” bowl made with roasted sesame tofu, portobello mushrooms, beets, kale, and miso-sesame-ginger dressing. Responding to lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Uptown restaurant will have two separate entrances—one for in-person dining and a second opposite-side entrance for delivery couriers and takeout—to separate flows and create a calmer dining experience. The pandemic has also extended permit timelines and changed construction practices, slowing rollout plans, but the company is planning a significant deployment across the DFW area; the McKinney Avenue location is expected sometime in winter (Q4 2021)." - Amy McCarthy
