"Located at 100 South 4th Avenue, Suite 110, I learned that Bløm Meadworks (pronounced “bloom”) will open next week and host a grand opening on Saturday, May 5, from noon to 9 p.m. As Ann Arbor’s first meadery, the 3,000-square-foot space at the base of the Courthouse Senior Apartments is run by partners Matthew Ritchey—who turned to mead after discovering a gluten allergy and brings brewing experience from Begyle Brewing Company in Chicago—and Lauren Bloom, a former vice president and board member at Slow Food Chicago. The meadery is focusing on drier styles using honey sourced from Michigan apiaries and will offer meads in four different varieties alongside cider and cyser (a mixture of mead and cider), with meads and ciders available on tap and in cans and sodas made in-house. Customers can pair drinks with pre-made cheese plates or bring in takeout from neighboring restaurants; hours are Wednesday–Thursday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday–Saturday noon to 9 p.m., and Sunday noon to 6 p.m." - Brenna Houck
