"I learned that Jollibee, an enormously popular Filipino-style fast-food chain founded 40 years ago in the Philippines that now has thousands of stores worldwide and first expanded into the U.S. in 1998, will open a large new 3,200-square-foot restaurant on a yet-undeveloped lot on Mira Mesa Boulevard. The incoming eatery—more in line with the modern design of its newer openings—will include an outdoor patio and a drive-thru, is currently in the permitting stages, and is slated to open in the second quarter of 2019; Mira Mesa previously had a small outpost that shuttered in 2013. Its signature dishes include Chickenjoy (seasoned fried chicken), Jolly Spaghetti (sweet-sauced, hot dog-studded), Yum Burgers, and Halo-Halo (a classic shaved ice treat). Brett Feuerstein of Mesa Centers said he’s excited to bring such a strong Filipino brand to Mira Mesa and that the time and energy being put into this "beautiful new building" will help ensure the community will be enjoying it for years to come." - Candice Woo
