"Found inside the Scofield Farms neighborhood supermarket and food hall Hana World Market at 1700 West Parmer Lane, Suite 100, Mochinut ATX opened in mid-April as the Austin outpost of the San Marcos mochi doughnut shop Mochinut. The menu centers on mochi doughnuts made with sweet glutinous rice flour that creates a Q texture, with flavors like matcha, churro, black sesame, horchata, funnel cake, and chocolate frosted with sprinkles, and new flavors introduced every Monday and Friday. Orders are placed in person (bulk orders via Instagram DM) and third-party delivery will be available soon. The shop also offers bubble teas — including the Frankenstein with green tea, ube drizzle, and ube cream — plus milk teas (brown sugar, Thai), fruit teas, and lemonades, and it plans to eventually serve Korean corn dogs made with glutinous rice flour in sausage, mozzarella, or half-and-half options with toppings like hot Cheetos, ramen, and diced potatoes. Mochinut is a family-run operation led by Saemi Lee and her fiancé David Lee alongside his sister Hannah Choi and her husband Yunsung Choi; Saemi and David discovered mochi doughnuts in New Jersey and, after Hannah and Yunsung closed their Casa Choi taco spot in September 2021, they converted that effort into Mochinut and have since opened the Austin location while eyeing a standalone shop in the future." - Nadia Chaudhury
