"Known in the Mission for its affordable omakase, I appreciate that Sushi Hon was opened by owner Min Choe in 2016 with the intent to offer an omakase that didn’t break the bank; its dinner omakase is now priced at $79 (with an “exclusive” $108 menu) and the new lunch omakase is $55 per person, with a sake pairing available for $40. The lunch omakase features several courses, including a starter of butter lettuce with wild sesame dressing (with red cabbage, baby young corn, baby choy sum), nine pieces of chef-selected nigiri, an owan of spicy shiro miso with duck, mushrooms, shiso and rui kombu, and a homemade cheesecake with strawberry compote for dessert. Choe says he can keep prices low because he owns the property and has other businesses (including Barnzu in the Tenderloin and sushi bar Tamashisoul in the Marina), and he’s also added ramen to the lunch menu—most notably the miso foie gras ramen—alongside miso ramen and a seafood paitan ramen. The menu also includes small plates like wakame salad, beef pot stickers, chicken karaage and sautéed shishito peppers, salads, sushi and sashimi moriwase options, and a uni/salmon/ikura don; Sushi Hon is open for lunch Monday–Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m." - Ellen Fort
